04/06/2009: Monster Rap.

Hello!

I was going to post this as a comment, but considering that the last thread is nearing 1000 comments (all positive) and takes about seventeen minutes to load, we may as well start anew.

I’m alive and unchanged. Seriously, I’ve just been working. A lot. It’s been a less-than-ideal grind and I very much look forward to the current wave passing so I can get back to doing what I love to do best: Nothing, with a side of you.

Some of you have expressed interest in an early return for the Halloween Juke. I couldn’t agree more and will try to include this soon as a partial mea culpa. I’ve been listening to that shit constantly, though I don’t know if it has as much to do with me wanting Halloween as it does the fact that Geico’s “Somebody’s Watching Me” commercial airs 772 times each hour.

Also, there was an a site in circulation that evidently attempted to redirect users to a bad place. I cannot lie: I thought you guys were mistaken, but you were right, and the ad guys at UGO (and me) really, sincerely apologize for any trouble it caused. It’s been eradicated and you should have no further trouble.

I finally watched that Clone Wars movie. Now, I was as hard on the prequels as anyone, but despite what seemed to be common opinion, I really didn’t think it was bad at all. Granted, I fell asleep halfway through, but I’m assuming it grew no more offensive from there. Plus, the first reveal of Jabba’s son, suddenly crawling out and goo-goo gah-ing with absolutely no build or fanfare, cracked me up so much that I had to rewind the scene seven times before watching the rest of (or the rest of the first half of) the movie.

Very odd to hear an ice cream truck’s jingle playing during a thunderstorm in early April, but I swear, I just did.

Ah, the magical phrase, micro-blogging. I like to drop that to make it sound more worthwhile :D

I got hooked on twitter when I tweeted Comic-Con last year, but it was the election that got me truly addicted. I could and did sit there for hours, hypnotized, watching the insanity scroll by in real time. Good times.

(Anybody have a rec for a good twitter iPhone app? I’m using twitterriffic, but I can’t retweet with it, so, it’s only half useful.)

I want to like Clone Wars, but like a recent web strip pointed out, no SW prequel is enjoyable because you know where it will end up. Don’t get all chummy with the clones, for Order 66 is coming. Although Ahsoka is sorta growing on me.

Im going to have to call shenanigans here. This post probably took no more than 10 minutes to write. You didnt have that 10 minutes for the entire month of March? I just wanted to let you know you are really disapointing the part of your fan base that actually looks forward to reading your articles. For some reason Im not getting the impression that your entirely back and wont go missing for another 3 weeks.

30-year-old males do not use Twitter.

Ghosted by Brew Master @ 04/07/2009 1:38 PM EDT

33-year-old Russel Brand, however, does.

Ghosted by Beann @ 04/07/2009 1:54 PM EDT

squee4242 I started with Twitterific, but now I use Tweetie. It’s $3, but you can have multiple accounts, retweet, etc.

Ghosted by Tommy Day @ 04/07/2009 1:59 PM EDT

Please don’t fall into the twittertrap.
Not only b/c its silly (IMO), but also b/c then I’d feel forced to get one so that I can read your ‘twits’ or whatever the eff they’re called.

Oh–Advent Calendar? PLEASE? At xmas I faithfully came here every day excited for a new installment, and its like you’ve given my eyes blue balls :(

They’re called tweets. :P

There’s some Charlie Brown on tonite on ABC, but I’ll be watching Reaper.

Ghosted by KING JLA @ 04/07/2009 3:55 PM EDT

I just finished watching a really cheesy horror flick on fear net called Blood Diner . It was CLASSIC cheese all the way. I’m off to check out this Twitter stuff ya’ll keep talkin about.

Ghosted by ULTRAMAN @ 04/07/2009 4:13 PM EDT

Oh, I like to think of mine as twits, personally ;)

Tommy, thanks for the Tweetie recommendation! You have cost me $2.99, but given me so much more. I thank you, and lucky pencil sharpener Bulbasaur thanks you :D

Ultraman, I recommend you check out @sockington: http://twitter.com/sockington More to the topic, there’s always @DarthVader.

I lost track of Reaper last season. Still good?

I’m currently saying “no” to Twitter, as I already have Facebook, and the front page makes it look like Twitter already. And with this Twitter-ification, I found that I’ve gotten addicted to just changing my status every few hours, which is pretty much the same thing.

Also, Obama has a Twitter. No, not like one of those fake-celeb pages on Myspace & Facebook, but the real deal. I wouldn’t want XE to have one, but what I WOULD like to see are guys like Waiterbot or Mistah Snowman twittering. I think it would be interesting what “mundane” things that they’d microblog about.

Ghosted by Invader Norbert @ 04/07/2009 5:10 PM EDT

They’re called tweets.

This is probably the first-ever utterance of this on XE, but Stephen Colbert has been on the record for calling them “Twats.” :)

Ghosted by Invader Norbert @ 04/07/2009 5:12 PM EDT

Yeah, celebrities don’t count. They pretty much live in a different world than us.

Ghosted by Brew Master @ 04/07/2009 5:19 PM EDT

squee4242: I find Sockingtons words of wisdom amusing.

Ghosted by ULTRAMAN @ 04/07/2009 5:29 PM EDT

Norb, I also have a Facebook because it’s sort of like the happy medium between MySpace and Twitter and it is sort of fun to update my status thingy once or twice a day. But I don’t want to Twitter at people when I could just IM or call them. There are enough things that keep me on the computer more than I should be. Like goddamn Youtube. It’s like crack.

Ghosted by Annette @ 04/07/2009 6:01 PM EDT

If Peeps could Twitter, what would they call it?

Ghosted by King JLA @ 04/07/2009 6:43 PM EDT

Hey Matt, good to see your doing alright…work sucks. You could post once a year for all I care, as long as you’re still posting. Keep it up!

Ghosted by Spectre @ 04/07/2009 6:53 PM EDT

I second (third?) the idea that if you go in for all the social networking, go facebook. You can create a group, we join, we see wassup. However, there’s something great about just having to old school go to your website, see the Christmas decorations up in July, and find out if you’ve posted something new.

I dunno, maybe you’d gain more followers, maybe you’d lose some website hits due to people waiting for notification of a new post through facebook. Maybe you just don’t have time for all this extra crap.

In any case, I’m just happy you are alive and well, and in this economy, being busy is better than the alternative.

We’ll wait. We understand.

Just don’t forget Easter candy. Oh, God, don’t forget to look for some new Easter candy to write about. Seriously, you’re our fix for all things sweet, bunny/egg shaped, and nestled in fake plastic “grass” come Sunday morning.

Well look who’s still alive. I thought it was kind of cool that the TFtDS thread was going so long though. I wanted to see how far we could go with it, but it’s nice to know you’re well.

Also nice to know I’m not the only one that’s really digging the Clone Wars series. I think it gets better as it goes.

I believe drew do mentioned the Sarah Connor Chronicles as well. Yeah, I hate that the season is wrapping up, but I think they got renewed for another one, so at least it will be back. I think it’s great.

The ice cream truck in my hometown plays the theme from the Godfather movies. No lie. Makes me wonder what (or who) is in those freezers crammed next to the ice cream sandwiches and Push-Ups.

I’m all for injecting Halloween in any form into the rest of the year, so if the Halloween jukebox showed up that would be fine by me.

I have never seen a twitter or tweet, nor have I ever twittered or tweeted anything, and I have no plans to.

I’m supposed to spend Easter with my fiance’s folks, and I’m none too keen on the idea, due in to small part to my distaste for ham and the fact that I will have an Easter basket waiting for me at home that I won’t get to nosh on until I get back home. Plus his mom is going through a midlife crisis or something right now. It seems she’s making plans to go to the Fangoria con and that’s just… just…. I mean mother-in-laws aren’t supposed to go to horror conventions, right?!

Ghosted by Mystie @ 04/07/2009 8:52 PM EDT

DJ D, I hope you are right about Terminator. I hadn’t heard that is was renewed. I thought it was “on the bubble” to be cut. Just when it was getting really good…

Ghosted by drew do @ 04/07/2009 9:13 PM EDT

Man, I love the Sarah Connor Chronicles. The better damn well renew the thing for another season.

Ghosted by Cameron T. @ 04/07/2009 9:45 PM EDT

No, mothers-in-law are not supposed to go to Fangoria Con. DJ’s who have been reading Fangoria since they were 12 are supposed to go to Fangoria Con. Unfortunately all the ones I know (well, one of them anyway), can’t afford it this year. And that is very sad.

drew do: Unfortunately I think you may be right after all. I just did some digging around on the net and things don’t look good for it. I think I heard wrong the first time. Crap.

Ghosted by DJ D @ 04/07/2009 9:50 PM EDT

XE is my anti-twitter. Its all the validation I need.

Ghosted by dave @ 04/07/2009 9:53 PM EDT

when i was 4, the local priest twittered my tweets i’m still in therapy

Ghosted by clodhopper @ 04/07/2009 10:02 PM EDT

Eh, I thought The Clone Wars was a dumb move on George Lucas’s part…but even that dreadful excuse for a continuation of a legend couldn’t hold a candle to the awfulness of “Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls.”

And I’m sure I’m amung the many readers here who love XE the most during Halloween!

Ghosted by LemonyShepard @ 04/07/2009 10:25 PM EDT

HAHAHA – I just scrolled all the way down to the ‘Tales From the Dark Side’ post and went into the comments there…! Ha – then it took me a few moments to remember “oh yeah! New post.” I’m an idiot.

Anyone watching RAW? God, every match has been 6 and 8 man tag matches. Where’s the storylines? The heat? I missed Wrestlemania, but read all about it. I wish RAW had better coverage of it.

Nice to see Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat.

God, how I LOATHE Vicki Guerrero. She is AWFUL.

I am hooked to twitter. I would love an X-E twitter or at least a hashtag. I usually participate in Disney and Conservative politics hashtags and you meet lots of people with similar interests. There are plenty of left-winger tweets for those who lean that way as well. Following hashtags is when it really gets addicting. My Twitter profile can be found by clicking my name.

As far as Halloween is concerned, the Disney Channel is having a Halloween in April week this week for those who need a Halloween fix. It’s mostly Halloween town stuff so if you’re into that, have a go at it.

BTW, nice to see a new post! No seriously, it is.

Ghosted by Berdo @ 04/07/2009 11:09 PM EDT

I joined twitter, I don’t get it though. I mean, I get it, I just don’t get it. So, I will not ask you all to add me, cause you would be very bored with me.

@mlsterben :oops:

Oh my God… someone still believes that the original Star Wars trilogy was one movie in three acts? George Lucas had a vague idea of that, but mostly he made it up as he went along. I mean from his “big screenplay that had to be split in three” the only thing that survived to Empire Strikes Back was that asteroid field thing.

You guys still have actual ice cream trucks?

In Seattle all we have is swarthy foreign guys driving around in beat-up old Dodge vans with the ice cream menus taped up in the windows.

We always have to check it out whenever we see one though, cos my fiancee is determined to find a Bubble Play.

Ghosted by Morfnblorsh @ 04/08/2009 9:30 AM EDT

We have ice cream trucks where I live, but far more common are guys pushing around little carts full of ice cream (allegedly…more on that later). They generally don’t speak much English, and I’ve heard they are often selling drugs out of their little carts just as much as they’re selling ice cream. My only experience with this was one time I stopped one of the guys to guy a couple of ice cream bars, and he seemed annoyed with the purchase, like I was wasting his time by only buying ice cream. The ice cream was fantastic, by the way.

Ghosted by tanta07 @ 04/08/2009 9:31 AM EDT

Occasionally I pass the Bronx Mister Softee Truck Depot. If there is a sight sadder than a yard full of silent ice cream trucks, I don’t know what it is.

I think Mister Softee is the one that has the trash receptacle with the child’s face painted around it, so one is meant to place their litter into the gaping, blow-up doll style mouth of a wide-eyed young boy or girl! “We’re hungry for your wrappers! Plug our throats with your barren popsicle sticks.”

I am despicable. I can find something sinister anywhere.
