04/06/2009: Monster Rap.

Hello!

I was going to post this as a comment, but considering that the last thread is nearing 1000 comments (all positive) and takes about seventeen minutes to load, we may as well start anew.

I’m alive and unchanged. Seriously, I’ve just been working. A lot. It’s been a less-than-ideal grind and I very much look forward to the current wave passing so I can get back to doing what I love to do best: Nothing, with a side of you.

Some of you have expressed interest in an early return for the Halloween Juke. I couldn’t agree more and will try to include this soon as a partial mea culpa. I’ve been listening to that shit constantly, though I don’t know if it has as much to do with me wanting Halloween as it does the fact that Geico’s “Somebody’s Watching Me” commercial airs 772 times each hour.

Also, there was an a site in circulation that evidently attempted to redirect users to a bad place. I cannot lie: I thought you guys were mistaken, but you were right, and the ad guys at UGO (and me) really, sincerely apologize for any trouble it caused. It’s been eradicated and you should have no further trouble.

I finally watched that Clone Wars movie. Now, I was as hard on the prequels as anyone, but despite what seemed to be common opinion, I really didn’t think it was bad at all. Granted, I fell asleep halfway through, but I’m assuming it grew no more offensive from there. Plus, the first reveal of Jabba’s son, suddenly crawling out and goo-goo gah-ing with absolutely no build or fanfare, cracked me up so much that I had to rewind the scene seven times before watching the rest of (or the rest of the first half of) the movie.

Very odd to hear an ice cream truck’s jingle playing during a thunderstorm in early April, but I swear, I just did.

Halloween juke?
Awesome.

Sweet, I love’s me some Halloween juke. Good luck on pushing through your busy work schedule. I know how that is, I have to study like 6 million hours a week. Here’s a tip to everyone, NEVER go to medical school… ever… not even once.

NOOOO!

I wanted to see the Darkside go a whole month.

X-E Matt, we could have all made history together. Crap.

Welcome back, Matt!

Why isn’t XE on Twitter yet? Come on, some of us are addicts and we need XE on there to share in our addiction.

Wait…did i miss the conclusion to the Advent Calendar?

Ghosted by guidedbyvenkman @ 04/06/2009 3:37 PM EDT

Kudos to the Advent comment. I was thinking the same thing.

I think it was a good idea you started a new thread Matt. Otherwise, people may grow suspicious and not think that the comment was by you and instead by some clone or troll impersonating you. STill, good to have you back and I never doubted you left us but assumed you were busy.

Anyway, watching Opening Day baseball. Unfortunately, the only game I can catch is the New York Mets vs. Cincinnati. Both the White Sox and Red Sox had their games postponed, the Rangers are playing on a local station in Dallas so it’s not available in Central Texas, and the Cubs don’t play until tonight when they’re in Houston. Oh well, not like there’s anything else to do…for now.

I feel so strange. I have read this site for what seems like five or six years (Has it been that long?) without commenting once. For the past few months I have continued to check the site daily, patiently waiting for new updates. I had neglected it for days before deciding, hey, I’ll just read through the comment thread and see if there is any news. After I caught up on that, seeing old familiar names spar with whiners, I refresh the page to find this! Just keep in mind that, just as there are more loyal commenters than the whiners, there are those of us out here that like what you do when you do it, and totally understand when you don’t.

Ooo I second the twitter idea! Get on it, Matt!

For some odd reason there are ice cream trucks around my neighborhood all year round. I am not saying there is always one driving around, but there were quite a few times this past winter that one drove past my house with the music blaring.

The sun has come out on my rainy day.

Thank you Matt. It felt like another part of my childhood was going down the drain ;-;

(Despite the fact that I’m not one of the regulars, I’ve been coming for like 8 years now…I was just entering my double digits when I first read these articles.)

Thank you Matt u.u

Welcome back Matt!

I highly recommend catching the later episodes of Clone Wars. If possible, netflix the 4 episode DVD “A Galaxy Divided”. If the movie is like a so-so 80’s animated adventure movie, then the tv series is like “Batman: the animated series” (they even share some of the staff from Batman)!

Hi Matt!

A couple months ago, I was in Texas with my husband, visiting his parents. There was an ice cream truck driving around the neighborhood. For one, I didn’t think ice cream trucks still existed and for two, it was fucking February!

Ghosted by Annette @ 04/06/2009 4:20 PM EDT

You should totally check out the clone wars tv series if you like the movie, its really awsome, perhaps a little bit more serious than the film, but still brilliant.

Ive been contemplating what ever happened to little rotta the huttlett. My theory is that he fell into jabbas frog jar and jabba consumed him. Any other ideas?

Awsome to hear from you matt. You were sincerely missed.

Good to have you back, Matt. Try not to work too hard.

Ghosted by jhnnywalkr @ 04/06/2009 4:28 PM EDT

I second the comment about the Clone Wars series. it is really good. Like all Star Wars fare there are a few uncomfortably awkward points in the plot lines and the dialogue is atrocious but overall it is very well done.

Ghosted by drew do @ 04/06/2009 4:51 PM EDT

Is it just my neighborhood or do all Ice Cream trucks go by at 40 mph? Seriously…how the *%*# do they expect me to catch them and purchase their potentially tainted wares if they fly by at the speed of friggin light? :-(

Ghosted by Cricket @ 04/06/2009 4:56 PM EDT

You’ve gotta love Clone Wars! I mean there is a saturday morning Star Wars show on and they’re selling new Star Wars toys, so what’s not to love, ah?

Also I was reading one of your older articles and there was this article about those old Star Wars mailorder toys (or something…) and how that’s good marketing. WELL… you know what I love about those new Clone Wars toys? Well there are like five characters that each have a part of a new character… so you buy one and get a left leg and so on untill you have all five figures and you can put together the new sixth one that’s an awesome looking robot guy. So cool…

Or maybe I’ll just go to bed and sleep. Sleep…

Yeah I cant wait for clone wars series to come out on DVD. Ages til it does though, theyre gonna release em like two episodes on a disc or somthing to start off with, then you can buy the box set ages and ages away. Which sucks a bit, but somthing to look forward to.

And next year we get the live action star wars tv series. Yey!

Ghosted by ory_bloodmyre @ 04/06/2009 5:06 PM EDT

An early Halloween Juke does that mean no Summer Juke, oh drat!!!

Ghosted by Shawn @ 04/06/2009 5:08 PM EDT

I LOVE the sounds of ice cream trucks! They’ve started to come through my neighborhood . Whenever I hear one, I think of Sweetooth from Twisted Metal. Welcome back Matt. Thankfully the pesky trolls are gone for now. Hopefully you can get through your busy schedule so you can spend more time on X-E.

Ghosted by ULTRAMAN @ 04/06/2009 5:09 PM EDT

Speaking of early and/or late holday fanfare, I’d just like to mention that my hometown still has no less then three homes still fully decorated for Christmas. My wife insists she’s also seen one home that has a full Halloween display up, until I see it though I have my doubts.

So has anyone else encountered time displaced holiday displays?

Ghosted by Shawn @ 04/06/2009 5:12 PM EDT

Glad to see you are back, I was starting to worry that this place would just mysteriously vanish one day :-(

Ice cream truck in early April, during a thunderstorm, is rather eerie. Was it the Mister Softee truck? They have the best ice cream, although that song can be annoying at times. Although Mister Softee is much better than Good Humor, unfortunately during my childhood, most of the ice cream trucks sold the Good Humor pre made crap..

I am mixed on the Star Wars live action. We’ll see, I will be sorely disappointed if all the signs so far are correct and it is ALL about Boba Fett. Overrated. I hope it is more like the Tales from the Cantina and Tales of the Bounty Hunter books.

Ghosted by drew do @ 04/06/2009 5:36 PM EDT

Hey just FYI, I just came to the site and it tried to redirect me (My Google Chrome warned of “MALWARE!” and I said “BACK TO SAFETY!”) but the address in my bar said welovesandi.com or something.

Just thought I’d let ya know…

Ghosted by Amanda @ 04/06/2009 5:41 PM EDT

According to what ive read, its not all about boba at all, I think hes going to make an appearence, but so too is galen marek and other characters. Eventually lucasfilm want to have different live action star wars series running at the same time focusing on completely different characters which eventually will tie in to one story. and what is wrong with boba? hes badass!

Ghosted by ory_bloodmyre @ 04/06/2009 5:45 PM EDT

Okay, and I’m on Twitter :-)

@Tresjolie9

Ghosted by Tresjolie9 @ 04/06/2009 5:48 PM EDT

Haha, sadly, about the Twitter thing — people have been pestering me to get on there, and finally I did; although I’m not too sure what the fascination with it all is… yet?

And yay for Matt being back, the comment about his Clone Wars escapade certainly made me laugh; I went to see in the cinema with a few friends and the other half and all the way through I could hear the guys laughing at how poorly Obi-Wan was done. Although I did immaturely giggle at the outer-rim dialogues.
At first, I couldn’t stand Ahsoka, her whole calling R2-D2 ‘Artooie’ pissed me right off.
But now, after watching the series, and being completely addicted to it, I might add; I completely love her character, although my boyfriend seems to think it funny to make fun of my fandom and say she’s going to die in the next episode (whenever it may come on).
Plus, who can not love Aurra Sing in that last episode; c’mon, she kicks ass :]

Ghosted by Beann @ 04/06/2009 5:50 PM EDT

I have watched none of the Star Wars prequels, and I still maintain that my life is better for it.

Ghosted by Mystie @ 04/06/2009 5:52 PM EDT

Cricket Same here, they stop for perhaps 30 seconds if at all. I live on the third floor and short of jumping out of the window I wouldn’t make it in time.
I totally feel your pain.

It’d be cool to have the Halloween juke around earlier, although I think right now would be too early.
(Yeah, this comes from me who just shoved all of my Halloween deco onto a shelf in November. I see the stuff everyday and I am thinking it would be easier to make it a permanent fixture of my interior design, but then I’d probably get tired of it soon.)

Ghosted by Kapprika @ 04/06/2009 5:52 PM EDT

Mystie, you do not need the Star Wars prequels, your life is better without having wasted it on the prequels.

Ghosted by Tresjolie9 @ 04/06/2009 5:56 PM EDT

You’re probably right there Mystie although I kinda liked Episode 2 (because I’m a huge Clone fan) and Episode 3 (what’s better than a cool lightsaber duel and Obi-Wan winning?)

:]

Ghosted by meepy @ 04/06/2009 5:58 PM EDT

Oh gosh, now I feel like the most worthless person here for slightly liking them.

>_<;

Ghosted by Beann @ 04/06/2009 6:01 PM EDT

Welcome back Matt.

Anyway, I just got done watching another “Monsters” marathon on Chiller (tomorrow they’re having a Freddy’s Nightmares one) and I have to tell you about one particular episode. It was called “Bed and Boar” and starred Steve Buscemi. It’s about a witch who turns rich men into some human/pig hybrid (imagine a really ugly looking Captain Link Hogform) and kills them for their money. It was cheesy (like almost all of the episodes) and AWESOME at the same time.

Ghosted by KING JLA @ 04/06/2009 6:02 PM EDT

Mystie, I wish I had never wasted my time with the prequels.

I haven’t seen any of this new Clone Wars stuff and I don’t want to. George Lucas has gotten enough of my time and money over the years. I still love the old Star Wars movies but for the most part, I’ve moved on to other things. Like giant robots.

Ghosted by Annette @ 04/06/2009 6:03 PM EDT

Here, you can hear raspa trucks past ten o’clock at night. We have snow cone trucks instead of ice
cream trucks. They sell raspa (snow cones), Frito
pies, and Mexican stuff. The Frito Pies are great.

WELCOME BACK MATT! I don’t know if you’ve heard of it, but there is a product on store shelves everywhere called Sierra Mist Ruby Splash. Sierra with grapefruit. I don’t think too much of it. (Hint- REVIEW! NOW!)

As a relative newbie to this site, I have never heard the Summer Jukebox. But now I want to. But I also want to hear all of the EXCELLENT SOUNDS of the Halloween jukebox. So I have the following proposal- we put all of the songs in one jukebox, and call it KICKASS!

I’m done.

Ghosted by PlantMonster @ 04/06/2009 6:43 PM EDT

Man, I was wondering about the month thing as well.

My son has mentioned in the past that he would like to be an ice cream truck driver, and go him! But then, I will not be able to live off his wealth I suppose.

Dunno why, but lately I have been craving some XE more than usual. I think I may have to revisit all the old articles to get my fix :)

Ghosted by kb @ 04/06/2009 6:51 PM EDT

I’ve been coming to this site for a very long time off and on, probably since the beginning. I can remember coming here in 2000/2001 while I was still at my original university. Two universities later, and I still come here to lurk and enjoy Matt’s take on everything from expired Kool-Aide to the now infamous Advent Calendar.

Anyhow, just glad to see you’re back Matt. I think we all understand how life just gets busy and you have to cut certain things out to make room for higher priorities. The past two semesters I’ve been 12 to 13 credit hours at school while maintaining my 40+ hour a week job. I know all about being busy. Take your time, we’ll still be here when you’re less busy!

Ghosted by emily @ 04/06/2009 7:21 PM EDT

The prequels are fine. I agree with George Lucas when he said the people who get mad are the people who don’t take them for what they are, children’s movies. Episode 3 is the best of them and, in my opinion, even better then Jedi. Empire is still the best by far though. I am all about the continuation of Star Wars. I feel better knowing future generations will continue to be into it. It is a childhood necessity.

Ghosted by drew do @ 04/06/2009 7:39 PM EDT

Thank you drew do, you’ve made me happy now knowing that I’m not the only one who like them, even if slightly.

And what’s Pissed’s problem, eh? O_o

Ghosted by Beann @ 04/06/2009 7:46 PM EDT

I honestly like the SW prequels. They’re not as good as the original trilogy of course, but I still like them alot. The main purpose they serve is showing you how all the characters and events in the original trilogy came to be.
I could really go for some ice cream right now. All this talk about it has made me hungry.
