Wow. shortcake 79 Apparently he did. Talk about a cheesy product placement.

Did you know there was a meat loaf sandwich from Burger King too? I really like meat loaf but that concept sounds disgusting.

Dr. Sketch, the problem with Watchmen not coming out until 2009,is that what was novel and original when the comic was published is old hat now. EVERY superhero story is dark now. Hell, even in the Justice League cartoon that aired on Cartoon Network, with Superman,Batman, etc.,the main theme was whether or not the League has too much power over the normal humans.
No average non-comic reader is going to sit in the theater saying,”OMG ADULT THEMES!!!”when just last year they saw Harvey Dent get his face burnt off.
Not making fun of Watchmen (I’ve never read it) but in a post-DK world it will strugle to make an impact with Joe Sixpack.

BTW,who here watches Batman:Brave and the Bold? That’s MY Batman.

Goob: Burger King does indeed have the Burger Shots or whatever they call them on sale again in the DC area. Last time in the drive thru, I got my usual 2 Junior Whoppers off the dollar menu, and order a set of the Burger Shots just to try. The price vs. value was definitely on the side of the Junior Whoppers. It seems the Burger Shots are too small to contain toppings such as lettuce & onions, and generally the overall experience of the Burger Shots was “too bread-y”. The outstanding taste was the bun. Not bad, if offerred one fo rfree, i would LOVE them. It seems the Burger Shots might be good novelties for kids. For my moeny, 2 Whopper Juniors for $2.00 are just right for a quick meal; a good hot/cold taste combo with the burger opposite the tomatoes/onions/lettuce.

I agree with you the peeps here should chill. Having a few websites myself, with nowhere NEAR the work Matt has to do, well, all I can say what he did in December was a second full time job. Besides, judgung form the “Merry Christmas” in the greeting, who knows what might pop up.

By the way, check out my online Geiger Counter page. I am now measuring radiation from a vaseline glass turtle! (P.S. you have to refresh manually to see new readings every ten seconds. I am working on that!)

Personally I just want to see Matt write what he wants, when he feels like it. Entertainment isn’t as good or as fun when it’s done out of obligation. I’d rather read an enthusiastic two-paragraph blog post about something random than three forced Advent entries.

Anybody else here have absolutely no Valentine’s Day plans? We should have a special SNT tonight to cheer up us bitter single folk (or coupled folk who don’t want to brave ridiculous crowds just to get a steak). Here’s an early topic: What were the best valentines you ever gave or received as a kid? Sadly I can’t remember any of mine, but I’m sure some of you have some stories? Maybe?

I might have mentioned this on the last thread, but did anybody watch Coraline? I thought it was pretty damn awesome.

Not excited for Watchmen at all; I’m a big-time skeptic when it comes to movies. That way, I don’t get let down as often. Also I’m not familiar with the graphic novel anyway.

Chestnuts roasted by Annette @ 02/14/2009 12:26 PM

Hey jazzy, long time no see!

I’m going to a baby shower today, then I think one of my husband’s friends is coming over tonight. So no real plans to speak of. I’m probably just going to bake some chocolate chip cookies for the hubby today since I took us out for pizza last night.

I don’t remember any of the Valentines I got as a kid, and I never gave good ones because I was po’.

That Barry wasn’t me (I have a feeling this will always be happening). I have a life of my own and totally understand how life can get busy. Love ya Matt, love ya X-E! Can’t wait for future articles and adventures!

And happy Valentines day!!! (We’re hitting Monster Jam in a half hour!)

Chestnuts roasted by Barry @ 02/14/2009 12:45 PM

Annette i saw coraline, and like i said before, it was REALLY good but nowhere near as creepy as the book… oddly enough though when i was watching it in the theater there was a woman there with her husband who was freaking out and asking if they could just leave… i believe he said if he paid 11 dollars to see it, they were staying by god….

I’m really excited about Watchman, but at the same time really hesitant to get my hopes up… If you have never read the graphic novel then do it, it seriously may well be the greatest comic ever made! The reason i dont think the movie will be all that great is that one of my favorite directors Terry Gilliam has tried to make this movie TWICE and has declared it impossible to do right, unless you make it as a 5 hour miniseries.

sorry for the double post, but i had to say something to Kid Nicky after i read that last post….

I am a huge fan of all the dark “adult themed” comic book/movie stuff that has come out in the last ten years… and i LOVED the Dark Knight… but comparing these things to The Watchmen graphic novel, is like…. well… its like comparing an episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Moby Dick…. they are two totally different animals…

I have found the appropriate picture for Valentine’s day. I will post it here if no one makes a thread on Shrine first.

It isn’t what you think.

Annette, I saw Coraline and it was fabulous. It was whimsical but with a little bit of darkness to it. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but the 3 little girls that were under 10 years old that were in the theatre were freaking out. I am so effing excited for watchmen. It was the second comic I had ever read (although this was only a month or two ago) and it was just so good. I am pretty much obsessed with it.

I just hope that Watchmen keeps to the main themes of the original story. The Paranoia, Fear, and whether the Final Peace is worth the sacrifice made to achieve it. And Rorschach is actually a version of The Question. Those who haven’t read it, check it out. There’s even a parallel theme throughout with a prose pirate story, since in that reality, there’s no need for superhero comics, when you could just read the newspapers or watch TV to see them for real. Pirate stories fill that need for escapist fantasy
Also, it seems some of the themes were brought up when a certain Disney/Pixar movie came out. Some observant types noticed similarities in the way heroes were praised, then reviled, then manipulated. Except that Syndrome is certainly no Ozymandias.

Where’s Rev. in all of this? One would think she would have a saucy comment for us on Valetine’s Day. She’s even going to miss the premiere of Neg’s nekkid photo!

Chestnuts roasted by PlnatMonster @ 02/14/2009 2:43 PM

Well I guess now I’ll have to make nekkid pics just for this occasion~

Chestnuts roasted by Neg @ 02/14/2009 2:48 PM

One thing that Im not so sure about when it comes to the movie version of watchmen is that the superheroes are all still being portrayed as being young, but in the book, night owl and all of the others are older, and its the idea of them banding together to start an impossible comeback to save the world that makes it more fabulous. If the characters are all still young, i feel like part of the plot is missing. rorschach is by far my favorite character….I hope to god they dont mess him up.

Chestnuts roasted by Leigha @ 02/14/2009 2:51 PM

Well….at least it was only the great gatsby and not grapes of wrath…..seriously though….WTF?
