02/02/2009: Man Eating Chicken is dead.

Sorry I haven’t posted…I’ve been watching the Super Bowl for two weeks straight!!

Hmmm. Work: Riotously busy, so I won’t bother promising anything for this week. But maybe I’ll surprise you. Also, I don’t want to post once and then vanish for another month, so no worries there. The site’s like a junked car. It’s annoying to think about crawling under it to fix things, but once I do, it’ll run smoothly.

To clarify: If I don’t post for a while, it doesn’t mean I died. But then again, I suppose it could?

Speaking of death, our last fish finally kicked. Now we have a 55 gallon fish tank with nothing but water in it. Sad, but now the opportunities are endless. Any ideas? I’m thinking blue crayfish and blue crayfish exclusively.

Whoo! First post.

Sorry to hear about Man Eating Chicken … he showed so much promise.

Good to see Matt and X-E are still alive, however!

Ghosted by Nate @ 02/02/2009 12:50 AM EST

Chris: Yes, that could be an idea. (PS you were SECOND.)

Ghosted by Matt @ 02/02/2009 12:51 AM EST

Word, I WAS first. And I totally support the blue crayfish idea. Go for it.

Ghosted by Mike Russo @ 02/02/2009 12:51 AM EST

Wait, who killed the Man Eating Chicken?!

Ghosted by Cigar @ 02/02/2009 12:51 AM EST

I know. Mike beat me to it by a few seconds. Whatevs.

Ghosted by Chris @ 02/02/2009 12:52 AM EST

Oh, I’m sure someone will continue Man Eating Chicken’s legacy. Woman Eating Jojos perhaps?

Ghosted by Reesie @ 02/02/2009 12:53 AM EST

You know, this site could really benifit from a chatroom.

Ghosted by Chris @ 02/02/2009 12:54 AM EST

Oh dear. I’m sorry about your fish, Matt, but I’m really glad to see you posting again. And if you want more fish, get some. I don’t know enough about fish to be able to tell you to get one kind over another, but you do love animals, and the fish (and cats) make you happy…which is what matters in the long run.

Ghosted by starwenn @ 02/02/2009 12:57 AM EST

what a good super bowl

Ghosted by brett @ 02/02/2009 12:58 AM EST

Good to know you’re just busy and not dead! Let’s see ideas for the fish tank–can you legally buy a shark anywhere?

Ghosted by gingela5 @ 02/02/2009 1:00 AM EST

ReesieI love jojos!
..or at least, I think I did when I was 5.

Matt, first time I’ve ever seen blue crayfish. They look sexy.

And with a new post I think I can now get to my recording of the story of Doraemon for Japanese.
Ankipan wo tabeyoo!

Ghosted by Tutsuro @ 02/02/2009 1:00 AM EST

I’ve long wanted a shark and there are stores around here that actually do sell ones that could fit in this tank, but then I’d need to convert it to saltwater, and I’m not sure I have the chutzpah to handle a saltwater tank. That was a long sentence.

Ghosted by Matt @ 02/02/2009 1:01 AM EST

Well if you happen to get one you’d be living my husband’s fantasy of owning his own shark. Did you happen to see the video of that Spinner shark? Amazing!

Ghosted by gingela5 @ 02/02/2009 1:03 AM EST

Anyone else want to quote about the ugliness being behind us now and never mention it again. I’d still like someone to ask for a squeaky bed at a motel, please Mystie?

Ghosted by RAS @ 02/02/2009 1:05 AM EST

I love you Matt…that statement is only half vodka fueled.

Ghosted by kb @ 02/02/2009 1:12 AM EST

Convert it to saltwater and get an anemone. Those things are awesome. We had one that lived for like, 4 years, and grew this one LONG tentacle that reached the top of the tank. And you got to feed it brine shrimp.

And if Man Eating Chicken died, can I have his chicken? Because I really like chicken and I think I could do a pretty good job carrying on MEC’s legacy by walking around eating chicken.

Ghosted by Cameron T. @ 02/02/2009 1:13 AM EST

a lot of jack dempseys.
they are great.

Ghosted by celina @ 02/02/2009 1:14 AM EST

kb: Pass me some, please? I don’t want to resort to rum.

Cameron: An anemone sounds amazing. Does anyone know anything about those shark egg/mermaid purse things I see on sale sometimes? I mean, I know what they ARE, but I’m doubting they actually hatch. Are they meant to be some kind of temporary decoration?

Ghosted by Matt @ 02/02/2009 1:17 AM EST

YAYYYYYY! A Super Bowl game, hour long special episode of the Office, and new XE post – all before bed. As Comic Book Guy would say: Best. Evening. Ever.

Ghosted by Muppet Baby @ 02/02/2009 1:18 AM EST

Matt are you going to take another cruise/Disney vacation soon?

Ghosted by penmissile @ 02/02/2009 1:19 AM EST

What about a piranha? They are freshwater fish.

Ghosted by jack @ 02/02/2009 1:22 AM EST

So MATT – what did you think of the Super Bowl, then? It was only the 2nd Super Bowl I have ever watched (I live in Canada and I only watch hockey) but I enjoyed it a lot. I was going for Arizona, but alas…

Ghosted by Muppet Baby @ 02/02/2009 1:25 AM EST

Matt,

I finally took down my tree last weekend. It always makes me sad.

The Superbowl was good. What did everyone think of the commercials? It seems every one involves some kind of animal now.

Ghosted by kingchachi @ 02/02/2009 1:28 AM EST

What is this “Superb Owl” of which everyone speaks?

Ghosted by MysteryD8 @ 02/02/2009 1:29 AM EST

I don’t know much about fish, but speaking of sharks, I love seeing the bala sharks at the pet store. I think they look cool. According to Wikipedia, they’re not actually sharks. Also according to Wikipedia, “they are very clumsy and get scared often.” Uhh…so maybe they’re not that cool? Only now I feel bad for saying that about them, and I still kind of want one.

Ghosted by Bluejay @ 02/02/2009 1:31 AM EST

I was lying about watching the Bowl. It was on in the background, and from what I could gather, there was one amazing play, one really bad call and one fistfight. Am I right on all counts or did I mishear something?

Jack: A piranha is a nice option. I’m thinking we may want to opt for one major fish than a sea of little ones.

Ghosted by Matt @ 02/02/2009 1:32 AM EST

You know what else died?

My heart.

Ghosted by Tom @ 02/02/2009 1:42 AM EST

Ahh, the supabuh. I kind of wish it would have ended a bit more excitingly. As it stands, it was more “Penalty Bowl” than “Super Bowl”

Ghosted by chiablo @ 02/02/2009 1:45 AM EST

HE LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ghosted by The Dude @ 02/02/2009 1:45 AM EST

Err, Matt, not the fish…. Sorry bout the fish…. Sucks.

Ghosted by The Dude @ 02/02/2009 1:46 AM EST

I honestly have never heard of blue crawfish (I cannot accept crayfish, sorry), but they look delicious.

Ghosted by Sami @ 02/02/2009 1:53 AM EST

Oh, I’ve been stalking blue crayfish for years. Maybe it’s a semi-local thing? Every pet store has had them here for years, and they cost about 10 times as much as the regular mud-colored crayfish. (But only twice as much as the also-superb lobster red crayfish.)

I think a tank full of those would be interesting, but I can’t remember if they’re the kind of creatures who wouldn’t mind eating each other.

Ghosted by Matt @ 02/02/2009 1:55 AM EST

Ditch the water and make a reptile habitat. Make that half water and half land. Get newts, salamanders, frogs , geckos, even blue crayfish if you like. I’ve wanted to do that for the longest time.

Ghosted by T.J. @ 02/02/2009 1:59 AM EST

Hallelujah, he has returned! Take that, voodoo!

MacGruber actually made an appearance during the Super Bowl ads. I wish they used the third sketch from Saturday.

MACGRUBER! PEPSI, PEPSI, PEPSI, PEPSI, PEPSI, PEPSI, MACGRUBER! PEPSI!

I’m also taping the Puppy Bowl, since I managed to miss it due to work and Super Bowl.

I wonder if X-E is ready for football again…

Ghosted by Invader Norbert @ 02/02/2009 2:05 AM EST

My veternarian has an octopus in his tank.

Ghosted by Grego @ 02/02/2009 2:05 AM EST

Norbert: I actually thought about that title. How long did I leave that up? I swear it feels like X-E only stopped being ready for some football less than four months ago.

Ghosted by Matt @ 02/02/2009 2:12 AM EST

What to put in the big fishtank?

A submarine, of course.

In a town where I was born,
Lived a man, who sailed the seas….

Ghosted by kingklash @ 02/02/2009 2:15 AM EST

Gotta go with piranha. Despite the ferocious stigma attached to them they are actually very interesting creatures. They can even be pretty.

Or how about a lionfish? Those things are always groovy.

Ghosted by Stevezilla @ 02/02/2009 2:27 AM EST

we’re booking our next Disney trip tomorrow, Matt.. – for May.. – i’ll be revisiting your Disney guide several times before then to brush up on the best stuff to partake in..

Ghosted by Review the World @ 02/02/2009 2:30 AM EST

I’m kind of curious about which call you considered bad, Matt. Lots of penalties in that game.

Also, Harrison’s 100 YARD interception return? That was absolutely ridiculous.

Ghosted by Dead Red. @ 02/02/2009 2:38 AM EST

Matt it has been far too long since i heard anyone use the word “chutzpah”… to celebrate your return i shall use it as often as possible for 1 month… it may cost me relationships with friends and loved ones… but this site has become THAT important to me… chutzpah…

Ghosted by TOmmy! @ 02/02/2009 2:43 AM EST

Matt- you should get a whole bunch of those tropical fish… i’ve always wanted some.. they’re purrrrty.

Ghosted by Andrew @ 02/02/2009 3:07 AM EST

I meant “buy” lizards. Not but lizards. That sounds weird

Ghosted by Timewaster @ 02/02/2009 3:36 AM EST

Yes!

Ghosted by LovesGreenKoolAid @ 02/02/2009 3:42 AM EST

MATTohhhh …. I was thinking about you this weekend…I have the perfect venue for you, and the whole of X-E….BLOG TV!!! not only can you show us interesting stuff you don’t feel like writing about…but we can all talk and chat at the same time…and you can co host those of us with webcams…

Think about it…I have been told that there are people actually getting television deals from scouts and agents and producers who go on there to troll for interesting talent. My one online friend Mike Mozart got to go on Bonnie hunt in December to show christmas toys, and then that sno balled into a possible tv show pilot to showcase new products and weird or interesting toys.

Ghosted by mandy_Reeves @ 02/02/2009 3:44 AM EST

I guess I really don’t have anything to say.

Ghosted by Say Anything @ 02/02/2009 4:05 AM EST

Fun fact: Did you know turtles can live in glass tanks?

Does Bonnie Hunt have some kind of talk show now? I guess she’d pretty much have to, unless Mandy’s a liar. That statement wouldn’t make much sense otherwise.

Electric Eels or hermit crabs. The choice is yours!
