Christmas Eve Eve.

The Advent Calendar has been updated through 12/22. I'm going to try to finish #23 between now and tomorrow morning -- try -- but I'm not sure I'll make it. If you've seen the length of the last few, I don't think you can blame me. :) Whatever I don't finish, I'll resume right after Christmas. Late? Yes, but at least you'll have something to do during those cold, sad days after Santa packs it in for another year of bear-like hibernation. (Plus, I think #22 is both suitably celebratory and cliffhangerish to last us a couple of days, if it comes to that.)

The holiday season has blitzed through in what feels like hours, and I'm sitting here wondering how the fuck it's possible that tomorrow is Christmas Eve. It's kind of mind-blowing that by this time tomorrow night, I'll be drunk, full of rumaki and trying to remain upright in my sister's crowded living room while kids zip past with still-wrapped Wii games, screaming loudly. I can't wait.

On Christmas Day, the woman's family is coming here for dinner, and we still aren't prepared. Case in point: A 24-inch Playmobil circus tent remains on the dining room table. We haven't even gone food shopping yet, which bodes for an interesting dinner menu. I assume we'll end up serving jelly beans and toast a la A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. Nobody will appreciate the humor in it.

And despite my best efforts, or at least my best half-hearted efforts, I still haven't even finished getting presents for everyone. Thank God for gift cards and holiday-themed scratch-off Lotto cards. Rumors persist that a number of six-year-olds will be receiving them for Christmas.

I'm pumped. Christmas Eve is my favorite day of the year, and nothing can mess that up.

That's our Christmas tree. By the end of the night, ten thousand presents will be underneath it. (Still haven't wrapped them, and I'm honestly desperate enough to comb the paper for some gift wrapping service that will charge me a hundred bucks to cover things in tearaway paper.)

It's a great tree. I feel like I haven't looked at it enough this year, but perhaps that's how I can justify keeping it up until April. Right now, we're writing shopping lists, listening to Christmas songs blare over a dusty old stereo, drinking spiked Cranberry Splash and trying to find the right place to keep my coconut crab taxidermy while company pours in and out of our apartment. It's an atypical and beautiful Christmas, no matter the bullshit.

I want to do one more blog entry before I call it quits until 12/26, but in case I can't, let's get it out of the way now: Merry Christmas, you're all awesome, and you're the reason that I can still enjoy doing this ridiculous website after almost a decade. Have an amazing holiday, and come back prepared to share stories.

Thanks Matt, for bringing holiday funzies to all!

Stopping by your site everyday has defintley become a personal tradition of mine during the holidays, for at least 3 years now. You rock, Dwayne Johnson style.

P.S. Your tree looks like a freaking Galaxy shot from the hubble telescope.

Thanks so much for this, the holidays aren’t quite the same without the XE Advent calendar!

And I don’t mind getting the last few a few days late, to draw out the holiday cheer for just an eansy bit longer.

How am I supposed to enjoy Christmas not knowing whether the Legomen and Mare will get eaten by giant crabs?!? Maybe your Christmas guests will eat the crabs and everything will turn out fine.

The advent calendar has become my new holiday tradition over the past few years, keep up the great work!

Great advent this year, Matt! :D

Anyways, I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and all that crap. I sound so insincere…

Happy Holidays, Matt. Looking forward to more wackiness from you on this site in the new year, and I love every minute of it!!

The usual usualness: last minute gift buying, followed by last minute wrapping frenzy, early morning unwrapping, going to different households for giving/getting/eating, going to the church for services and getting treat bags full of fruit and candy, and this year Little Brother is getting the baby dedicated. He’s going through all the first-time daddy things I’ve seen others go through. It’s kinda touching, really.

And now, the AC’s got crabs.

Just checked Quick Stop Entertainment, they got the Venture Bros Xmas tune for this year up! It’s 21 and 24 singing “Wonderful Christmastime”, apparently recorded ahead of time, before the “incident.” clickmas for the page.

Merry Christmas, the double shot of Lipton made my night, remarkafabulous!!!

I’ve been reading this site for about 8 years and posted once or twice…I feel kind of out of place since I KNOW I’m the oldest person here…lol! When I read all of the memories you guys write about, I’m seeing them from the ‘mom’ perspective – my sons are 29 and 26, and my daughter is almost 19, so I’m remembering my searches for He-Man guys, and the Christmas I found all the Star Wars characters on clearance for 99 cents at KayBee Toys. The boys got a huge box filled with them! And of course, I was a captive audience for their battle shows when they’d set up Castle Greyskull and show me all the different ways HeMan could kick ass…to say nothing of listening to how they beat the end guy on whatever the Nintendo game of the moment was.

This year’s Christmas has been odd. I have one of those very expensive prelit fake trees, which I love, but after 5 years, the lights decided not to work. So I’m still restringing the damn thing, and hopefully my daughter and I will get all of the ornaments on it tonight. Because of money problems, I wasn’t able to buy gifts but last night someone came by and paid me half of the $400 they owed me…so I’ll be off the to stores here in a bit. And I found out a couple of days ago that my oldest son’s wife was taken to the ER from her office when her back went out; turns out she’s got two herniated disks and so they had to cancel their trip from San Diego to my house (Bay Area). My other son is working on Christmas Day, my daughter is working the day after, so I guess we’re doing our dinner Friday night around 9:00p.m.! Better late than never!!

Anyway, despite all of this, I’m still feeling the Christmas spirit, and alot of that is due to the Advent Calendar, Matt’s wonderful entries, and the posts from all of you, whom I’ve come to recognize by your names over the years. Here’s wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas filled with love and laughter and good food!

Thanks Matt! I look forward to the Advent Calender all year long! Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without it.

Merry Christmas, Matt!

It’s Christmas fucking Eve and it still doesn’t feel like Christmas to me. :(

Tomorrow I have to go to three different houses, the only one of which I’m looking forward to is my stepbrother’s, because my dad will be there.

Also, I made the mistake of going out yesterday. Took me about 20 minutes to drive back to my apartment from the store, which is normally only a 5-minute trip!

Merry X-Mas to all my fellow X-E readers and a special Merry X-Mas to Matt who’s advent calendars just keep getting funnier!

Thanks for making me laugh for another year, Matt! I’ve been reading XE since 2001, and I hope to be reading it for many more years to come. Have a great Christmas!

Chestnuts roasted by KingTreehouse @ 12/24/2008 3:41 PM

My old arse tree kinda fell apart so I took all my ornaments over to my moms house. Proper “Christmas” is going to be here anyway, though her tree looks absolutely ridiculously amazing with all my ornaments added to it as well. It’s crazy awesome.
I couldn’t sleep last night so I made Christmas cupcakes and wrapped the rest of the presents I had on hand (I didn’t get paid til today so Im about to brave a thunderstorm to go pick up the last few presents). I still have cookies to make and a star cake and who knows what else I’ll be saddled with til tomorrow. My parents are doing most of the dinner-type stuff and dessert and snack was left up to me. It kinda puts me in that Christmas spirit though, slapping on frosting and rolling stuff in snowflake and stocking sprinkles.

Its 75 degrees here in Louisiana today, not very Christmassey but XE always makes me feel better. I’ve been reading since… oh I dunno…..2001? 2002? Somewhere around there, and have loved every article and every moment. Especially the ones that plow through old memories from my childhood of toys and tv shows and the little things you might forget that flicker in the back of your mind from time to time. Being reminded and getting that flood of old memories makes me feel warm and tingly and quite joyful inside. So thanks once again for sticking to the site and giving your best so that all of us have a place to come and bask in the goodness, gloriousness of the holiday seasons.

Peace.

Happy Holidays everyone. Living on the other side of the country from my entire family has made this one of those “just send money” years, which is fine, except I’ve already spent all the cash so so Christmas will just be another day.

Also, the Advent Calender is one of the only things that gets me past the post Halloween slump.

Holy jumping mushrooms Batman! I haven’t been around here or commented since about Oct. Anyways, just want to wish Matt and all X-E’rs a Merry Christmas and a Happy Festivus!

My New Year’s resolution is to make time to come by here more often.

Ok I’ve been folowing the X-E Advent Calandar for about 4 years now but I guess I missed something. Was there something that was posted last summer? The characters keep referencing the giant crabs destroying the house last summer. I somehow missed that. Is there a link to that story or was it just a way to explain why they are now in the circus tent. I’m confused.

Chestnuts roasted by MinorDetail @ 12/24/2008 4:46 PM

merry christmas matt, I hope you read these, (when you have time, of course) because you are a christmas tradition. You and your crazy picture stories are just as much a part of my christmas now as the hidden christmas pickle in my tree and the almond marzipan pig sitting on my desk. Seriously, those are real. Of course half of you probably know that, :)

Anyway, it is so very worth it what you do, you are my (and I know so many others) favourite website, and even though you’ve been so busy, our love for what you do keeps us around during the thin spots, just hoping that there may be some new little tidbit laying around for us to find, like a secret present from santa.

Though I dont post here much, (there are plenty who do) I read it all, and I’ve been around for some long times. So I hope you belive my sincerity (the sincerest in the pumpkin patch)when I do wish you a merry merry Christmas, A froliche Weinacten, mele kalikimak, felize navidad, & a joyeux Noel!

yours,
D

Check out the Box 23 thread
http://x-entertainment.com/updates/2008/11/15/box-23-discussion-thread-i-2008/

Throughout the year, there were little clues given out about something happening to them all, and coconut crabs.

Just finally caught up on the advent calendar. Soooo good!! Having a lot of the characters, I’ve started building Christmas ornaments pairing key characters together. A little gold thread and a small eye hook and bam ornaments for the tree! These characters are integral to Christmas as much as Santa and the Cap’n! Thanks Matt and Merry Christmas everyone!
