Christmas Eve Eve.

The Advent Calendar has been updated through 12/22. I'm going to try to finish #23 between now and tomorrow morning -- try -- but I'm not sure I'll make it. If you've seen the length of the last few, I don't think you can blame me. :) Whatever I don't finish, I'll resume right after Christmas. Late? Yes, but at least you'll have something to do during those cold, sad days after Santa packs it in for another year of bear-like hibernation. (Plus, I think #22 is both suitably celebratory and cliffhangerish to last us a couple of days, if it comes to that.)

The holiday season has blitzed through in what feels like hours, and I'm sitting here wondering how the fuck it's possible that tomorrow is Christmas Eve. It's kind of mind-blowing that by this time tomorrow night, I'll be drunk, full of rumaki and trying to remain upright in my sister's crowded living room while kids zip past with still-wrapped Wii games, screaming loudly. I can't wait.

On Christmas Day, the woman's family is coming here for dinner, and we still aren't prepared. Case in point: A 24-inch Playmobil circus tent remains on the dining room table. We haven't even gone food shopping yet, which bodes for an interesting dinner menu. I assume we'll end up serving jelly beans and toast a la A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. Nobody will appreciate the humor in it.

And despite my best efforts, or at least my best half-hearted efforts, I still haven't even finished getting presents for everyone. Thank God for gift cards and holiday-themed scratch-off Lotto cards. Rumors persist that a number of six-year-olds will be receiving them for Christmas.

I'm pumped. Christmas Eve is my favorite day of the year, and nothing can mess that up.

That's our Christmas tree. By the end of the night, ten thousand presents will be underneath it. (Still haven't wrapped them, and I'm honestly desperate enough to comb the paper for some gift wrapping service that will charge me a hundred bucks to cover things in tearaway paper.)

It's a great tree. I feel like I haven't looked at it enough this year, but perhaps that's how I can justify keeping it up until April. Right now, we're writing shopping lists, listening to Christmas songs blare over a dusty old stereo, drinking spiked Cranberry Splash and trying to find the right place to keep my coconut crab taxidermy while company pours in and out of our apartment. It's an atypical and beautiful Christmas, no matter the bullshit.

I want to do one more blog entry before I call it quits until 12/26, but in case I can't, let's get it out of the way now: Merry Christmas, you're all awesome, and you're the reason that I can still enjoy doing this ridiculous website after almost a decade. Have an amazing holiday, and come back prepared to share stories.

Thanks for keeping us entertained during the holidays, and the rest of the year as well. I love the site, and I’ve been reading it for a very long time now. I don’t know what my girlfriend and I are doing for Christmas yet, probably going and seeing The Spirit.

Awesome Advent! Awesome articles/blogs for Christmas! Thanks for making my holidays brighter while I have to deal with my craptastical family. You rock!

Thank you SO much, Matt!

You (and the X-E Advent Calendar) have gotten me through December since 2004. Thanks for helping to preserve my sanity during final exams and epic papers, during the trip home to MI from “home” in NY every year, from PC to Mac, from college to grad school.

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to all…and Lipton/Hat ’08 indeed.

Matt, thanks again for doing this. My girlfriend and I talk about this advent calendar all year.
Have a remarkabulous Christmas! Maybe we’ll have some Brawls in 2009.

I cannot BEGIN to express how alarming that damn crab is.

…almost as alarming as last year’s bunny suit.

Almost.

Merry Christmas Matt. Even though Christmas has crept up on me too, the Advent Calender and Jukebox have given me a good jolt of Christmas Magic this year. I thank you sir.

Also, trivia!! Anyone remember Waiterbot’s real name??

Christmas! Hot spit.

Tonight I went to my mother in law’s house to learn how to make this weird Italian stuffed bread they make. It was monumental. I don’t know what it’s called but they pronounce it “coog”. Any other wops on here familiar with this stuff? My family doesn’t make it but now *I* do. Hooray.

Now, all I have to do is fry 50,000 meatballs, 2 tons of sausage, make two lasagnas, 500 potato croquettes, prepare a huge pan of crab cakes, and a tray of rocky road before I can start guzzling gin and wrapping presents.

Praise Christmas. Merry Christmas, you sexy x-e’s.

Einstein!

Coconut crab taxidermy?!?! You mad genius, you.

I don’t know if it’s thanks to Neg’s efforts or just my appreciation of femmeslash, but I’m totally shipping Hare/Claire lately. Mare/Kuse is still my otp though <3

Nicely done squee.

This has been a great Christmas season. I also feel like it has gone by in a flash, but that is a good thing for me. If it lingered on for what seemed like forever it just wouldn’t be as special.

I want to thank Matt for continually making Christmas special for me. Before finding this site five (holy shit) years ago I was not an enthusiast. Now I am completely saturated with Christmas cheer! Thank you for doing what you do, there is no other site like this. It means a lot to me, my fiance, and my siblings. Thanks and Merry Christmas to EVERYONE at XE!!!

Merry Christmas Matt, and Merry Christmas everyone else. Thanks for the wonderful advent again. After reading the post, I felt kind of sad to think the Adventians live on your kitchen table, I always held out hope that there was this real random universe where they all lived. Christmas did come fast this year but thankfully all the shopping is done and gifts are wrapped. Speaking of which, for those of you with kids, does Santa wrap presents or leave them unwrapped. That is a never ending battle in our household. I say Santa does not wrap. Apparently I am wrong and overruled. What say you.

Merry Christmas, Matt.

This is the first full year I think I’ve made X-Entertainment a daily habit. And it’s the first year I’ve given the Advent Calendar the attention it deserves.

And I’ve loved every minute of it. Here’s to a fantastic 2009!

Hey gang- the newest Christmas track from The Venture Brothers cast is finally up at Quickstop- click my name to check it out! The picture right below the wreath on the site makes me all weepy;_;

Have a great Christmas, Matt! Me, I’ll be making the trek to my grandma’s on Christmas day, probably listening to The Electric Mayhem belt out “Little Saint Nick” and generally acting like a giddy imbecile the entire way with my brother. Then we’ll tear through some gifts (crossing my fingers for a new bed) and eat too many cookies while watching Christmas Story like 80 times.

Merry Christmas to you too Matt. As well as all X-Ers. Just got back from A LONG day out. I tell ya, people are CRAZY at Christmas time! Oh yeah, I just finished the latest Advent entry a few minutes ago. COOL!!!:D I agree, it’ll serve as an EXCELLENT cliffhanger if it comes to that. Once again, I found no Christmas Crunch. Oh well. At least i’m not missing out on a different flavor. I still want it, but what can ya do.

Chestnuts roasted by ULTRAMAN @ 12/23/2008 11:07 PM

Merry Christmas, Matt. I wish you many bizarre monster movie DVDs, stuffed Gremlins and large collector’s-market Transformers, all of which you will probably get, given your plentiful friends, their limitless bank accounts and their remarkablous understanding of your weird tastes.

So……my cousin asked for “Wii Games” and our choices were under $20. There were a lot of horrible things, and it’s a good thing I was there. I picked Samba de Amigo. He better appreciate it.

I too wish to add my thanks Matt, I have been following the calendar from the begining. We are having my wife’s family over for Christmas Eve, so I have been busy making candy (2 types of fudge, peppermint bark, peanut butter balls and peanut brittle so far.) I actually finished all of my shopping at work this afternnon, so now I just have to wrap it all. Christmas Day we are staying home and I am sure my wife and son will make me far too early.
Oh, Santa always wraps gifts unless it too large (ie a bike). He uses different paper than Mom and Dad too.

I too loved this year’s Advent Calendar. It had a very Cloverfield-esque feel to it, and that makes me a happy camper. Thanks Matt for all the hard work you put into this website. Merry Christmas everyone, and God Bless!

Chestnuts roasted by Steve @ 12/23/2008 11:20 PM

Merrrry Xmas Matt, he advent calendar ha really helped the season fly by.

We will be having some family over and eating tamales tomorrow night while listening to many X-mas classics. I will drink many a Red Stripe and will be operating the karaoke machine up until midnight when we will open presents and then maybe do more karaoke.

Merry X-mas everyone and here’s to hoping you get what you deserve, like… like a microphone for my Mac.
