BUMBLE CHASE.

The Advent Calendar has been updated through December 12th. Hopefully, I'll be back on schedule by the end of the weekend.

Introducing BUMBLE CHASE, a new kind of battery-operated stuff-moves-across-a-surface holiday decoration/toy thingy! Eerily similar to the Peanuts Prowling Pumpkin Patch that I reviewed last year! Did I need another such item? No!

To tell you the truth, I bought it at the start of the season as a contingency plan, not knowing if the retail world was going to provide me with enough material to slink through an entire month of blog posts. As it turns out, it did, but I've grown so fond of my BUMBLE CHASE that I'm going to review it anyway. (Behind the scenes at X-E is an incredible party.)

What it is: An icy, battery-operated base that plays music from Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, while pushing a quartet of magnet-boosted figures in a vaguely oval pattern. I'd probably come up with something catchier if I was writing its catalog description, but I'm not, so that's what it is.

The moving figures include Rudolph, Hermey, Yukon and Bumble. (Some prefer to call him "The Bumble" -- I do not.) My fascination with yetis makes Bumble my favorite character from the TV special, narrowly edging out the spotted elephant who masterfully danced on one foot while singing about how fucking miserable he was.

Though Bumble converted to heroism by the end of the special, we must assume that he's still in full-on villain mode here. It certainly helps explain why the four figures chase each other in circles for fifteen seconds whenever you hit the magic button. If Bumble isn't trying to eat them, what else could be happening? Are they playing tag? That's so not canonical.

The finale! The figures move, the music plays, and all is well. No clue how CVS gets away with charging $20 each for these sets, but since I bought one, I appear to be part of the problem. Happy SNT. Back with more later.

Maybe it’s cuz I’m drunk, but did the advent entry seem so short to anyone else today? I’m frothing at the mouth for the next entry. Good, good stuff.

Bill: HAHA!! I love how you can hear the lady screech “WHAT? WHAAAT??”, then stomp into the kid’s room before she starts beating himXD One of my favorite parts is when Ralphie’s mother is getting Randy for school, and the kid just whines non-stop as she’s wrapping a scarf around his head like 50 times.

This is kind of random, but it gets me into the Christmas mood- I call it “If Rev. were male…”
(NO OFFENSE!)(OKAY, MAYBE A LITTLE)

I really enjoy
“You used all the glue ON PURPOSE!”

Plantmonster,

That was GREAT! But why if I were male?

Sometimes I do get a little smashy.

HaHa! “Extended deep sea diving”

This is my favorite. Don’t judge me.

ULTRAMAN – They got Mickey Rooney for Santa? COOOOOL!

Been spending all evening watching the second season of Samurai Jack…after Garfield’s Christmas special and the Real Ghostbusters one.

Bill I haven’t seen that movie in at least 20 years or so! WOW! My first memory of it is when I was 5 in 1983 and eating baked ziti in my living room on a Annie the movie tray table!

Hahahaha! YES! ‘Gremlins’ is playing RIGHT NOW on CTV here in Canada. After I just mentioned it as one of my favorite Xmas movies, too…

Mandy_cool as ice_Reeves: Isn’t it funny how those specials can bring back such memories?
Yogi makes me think of vanilla tobacco from a pipe my grandfather smoked. I used to watch it at their house for Christmas. Good stuff.

I love “Daddy’s gonna kill Ralphie!”

Tonight I watched Hogfather which was on some hi-def channel we get now because we got a new tv that allows us to actually view some of the hi-def channels our rooftop antenna picks up. I only read the book last year, but Hogfather is one of my Christmas favorites now.

Oh, and I just ate Santa-X Waffles. Last night my bf and I made chocolate waffles and threw in a chocolate chip and white chocolate santa shapes mix. So the waffles have molten bits of slightly charred santa that reminded me of Santa-X. If the AC ever becomes big enough for its own line of food products, I think Santa-X toaster waffles should be the first thing to come out. Leggo my eggo!

I was going through my TiVo Christmas wishlist guide and the Yogi Christmas special that was mentioned either in this thread or in another is going to be airing on WGN in the coming week or so.

And I don’t say this often, but I envy you Canuckians for some of the Christmas specials that you’re getting.

I have no idea what Bumble is…but he looks cool.

I’m jealous of all the christmas specials you guys get- all my tv is showing lately is Die Hard and Santa Clause movies…

I always liked the mirrored music box ones with the little figurines skating over the mirror “ice”, usually to some tune like Winter Wonderland.

In Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer I always wondered why the doll was a misfit toy. I think it was because she was a tranny.

Has anyone taken a look on the Sears website at their 2008 wishbook yet?

For anyone interested, A Very Venture Christmas is available to watch online on adultswim.com this week. I assume it will also be aired on TV at some point this week, but I always watch online so I don’t know when that would be.

Oklahoma weather is so fucked up. Today it’s 70 degrees, and for the rest of the week it’s gonna be like 20 with a “winter mix”, whatever that means. I think it means I’m gonna be working from home this week. Driving 15 miles on ice doesn’t sound like my idea of fun.

Chestnuts roasted by Annette @ 12/14/2008 2:38 PM

Great wreath, Cheetara! Also, did you watch a Muppet Christmas Carol on tv, DVD, or what? I tried to find it on tv and couldn’t. I couldn’t even find it on Netflix. Arrgh!

Ann, describing your voice as being similar to Dr. Girlfriend’s is oddly sexy to me.

I’ve never wanted anything to do with Canada, but it does sound like they’re getting some great Christmas stuff. I also want to experience Tim Horton’s.

jjwspider, what do you think of Batman: Brave and the Bold? I think it’s really kinda cheesy, but a lot of fun.

maticdog, here’s what the wikipedia says about that doll: Misfit Dolly, or “A Dolly for Sue (as she calls herself)” is a seemingly normal girl rag doll with red hair and a red gingham (checkered) dress. Her misfit problem is never explained on the special, but was revealed on NPR’s Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! news quiz show broadcast December 8, 2007. The show says that when Arthur Rankin (Rudolph’s producer) was inteviewed, he said Dolly’s problem was psychological, caused by being abandoned by her mistress and suffering depression from being unloved.

got a new favorite line from this year’s Advent:

HSSXXLLLO: “You’re being pushy. Go take a shit.

think i’ll start randomly telling people to go take shits for now on.. – see what kind of results it gets as my new catchphrase..

Was out and about last night getting some things, and missed the Miser bros. But today, I am posting from my sister’s new house. Just checking to see if the cable company got all the internet connections right. Now, I am gonna check the advent and see what lovely chaos they got waiting for them now…

I was going to point to the page on Rankinbass.com about the dolly, since its the most asked question there, but when I went to the page I found some interesting news. Seems WB has been underpaying for all the specials…

I know I’ve busted on Transformers Animated in the past, and I still dislike the show, but I have to say:
Animated Soundwave is my favorite action figure in years.
People, even if you don’t collect action figures, you owe it to yourself to get an animated Soundwave figure. Hell,it’s on sale right now at KMart for 8 bucks!
