12/13/2008: BUMBLE CHASE.

The Advent Calendar has been updated through December 12th. Hopefully, I’ll be back on schedule by the end of the weekend.

Introducing BUMBLE CHASE, a new kind of battery-operated stuff-moves-across-a-surface holiday decoration/toy thingy! Eerily similar to the Peanuts Prowling Pumpkin Patch that I reviewed last year! Did I need another such item? No!

To tell you the truth, I bought it at the start of the season as a contingency plan, not knowing if the retail world was going to provide me with enough material to slink through an entire month of blog posts. As it turns out, it did, but I’ve grown so fond of my BUMBLE CHASE that I’m going to review it anyway. (Behind the scenes at X-E is an incredible party.)

What it is: An icy, battery-operated base that plays music from Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, while pushing a quartet of magnet-boosted figures in a vaguely oval pattern. I’d probably come up with something catchier if I was writing its catalog description, but I’m not, so that’s what it is.

The moving figures include Rudolph, Hermey, Yukon and Bumble. (Some prefer to call him “The Bumble” — I do not.) My fascination with yetis makes Bumble my favorite character from the TV special, narrowly edging out the spotted elephant who masterfully danced on one foot while singing about how fucking miserable he was.

Though Bumble converted to heroism by the end of the special, we must assume that he’s still in full-on villain mode here. It certainly helps explain why the four figures chase each other in circles for fifteen seconds whenever you hit the magic button. If Bumble isn’t trying to eat them, what else could be happening? Are they playing tag? That’s so not canonical.

The finale! The figures move, the music plays, and all is well. No clue how CVS gets away with charging $20 each for these sets, but since I bought one, I appear to be part of the problem. Happy SNT. Back with more later.

Also, because I’m liable to give people verbal smacks up the backside of their head for doing immature and dangerous things. ;)

oh, FIRST SNOW OF THE SEASON UP IN FEDERAL WAY (WA, think Tacoma). Awesome. I hope it snows in Portland (OR) on Christmas Eve and Day like it did last year.

Wait. Moony, was that a comment on how I posted my opinion of Transformers: Animated’s character designs in the style of my namesake?

Nooooooooooooooooo! I don’t WANNA go to work tomorrow! *sniff* Ok, I had to do that, sorry. Watching the Survivor season finale right now and staying up way too late. After a long (snow-day) weekend tomorrow will be extra rough. At least I have a new advent calendar entry before bed!

Hold on a sec- GwimWock raises a good point. The little toolbar that used to appear above my comment space has magically vanished. It has been for some time. How do I get it back? Did I hurt its feelings?

Teddy Ray Someone put up the televised version of the Muppet’s Christmas Carol on youtube. I downloaded it and put the pieces together myself because I am freaky and an overachiever like that but I think an average person would just watch it online.

I got a copy of Game party this morning. Harry said that they were sold out of Mario Kart. I wanted Game party too but I was disappointed about it not being Mario Kart. I called Game Crazy at about 5pm and they said they have many copies of Mario kart and they are getting more Wii fit’s this afternoon. Wii fit was the other thing Walmart and Best Buy was sold out of that he inquired about. So if I am good for just a few more hours and have the balance of being good but reminding gently Harry may in fact buy both for me today as an early Christmas present. Yayy!

GwimWock – no, no, I’m sorry didn’t mean it that way. I just forgot to add it to my explanation of ‘Mommybot’ that I’m kinda known for on some boards. :D

Sorry I didn’t reply earlier, I’m watching A Christmas Story, which unfortunately is the only laserdisc I own that’s degraded horribly in spots.

Hey Aaron, what’s the Seattle weather forecast for Wednesday? I’m flying over there on that day.

thejyav In regards to not catching the specials due to lack of cable: That’s why Hayzoos created torrents!

I have to say, Mista Snowman is the greatest creation in the history of the AC. He’s so damn annoying, I love it. He needs his own special!

Kid Nicky Give Animated a chance. It actually gets better later into the series with some fantastic nods to every series so far and a little more serious. This is my own personal opinion, but I prefer Animated to that shit stain of a movie Shia Lebouf’s Antics And His Shape Shifting Friends AKA the Transformers 2007 movie.

Thanks, Goob. I may resort to watching it online, but what I want to know is, if Cheetara can get a copy at Blockbuster, why the frig can’t I get it from Netflix???

What the hell?! I go to my local CVS store the other day and they’re all out of the Rudolph Bumble Chase! All they had left were the Peanuts ones at $20 a pop!! I’ll be damned if Charlie Brown is gonna get one dime of mine. Guess I jumped on it too late this year. Maybe I can pick one up on ebay for quadruple what the stores charge. Sike!
