11/22/2008: Holiday SNT?

Just a random SNT. I’m working on a couple of things, but mainly I’m working on relaxing.

I don’t want to be first.

Hey, Matt! I’m just relaxing and chatting with a friend tonight myself. Nothing big. Next week will be crazy enough. I work at a grocery store, and I don’t even want to contemplate what the lines are going to be like by Wednesday.

Ghosted by starwenn @ 11/22/2008 9:38 PM EST

I had a completely lackadaisical day today. Didn’t do a damn thing.

And you know what? I’m damn proud of it. :)

Ghosted by Cameron T. @ 11/22/2008 9:40 PM EST

we could always watch the married with children thanksgiving episode

and thanks to the matt for doing another advent calendar, it wouldnt be a real christmas without it

Ghosted by matt(not the matt) @ 11/22/2008 9:46 PM EST

Wow, earliest I’ve been in on a SNT. :)

Trying to listen to an online spiritual show for the next hour, tho, if my connection lets me.

Ghosted by Moony @ 11/22/2008 9:47 PM EST

still looking for an explanation for the absense of the Ghost with the Most from the halloween countdown. Maybe work that guy into the advent calendar somehow.

Ghosted by fffff @ 11/22/2008 9:49 PM EST

The Santa Clause is on Disney. Barely tolerable because it’s the first one. ABC Family has some old Kathy Ireland movie on…I’ll pass on that.

Cameron T., I did about as much as you today. No complaints…it’s the best way to keep warm.

I LOVE the new background so much!

Anybody else feel like the networks have brought out the Christmas stuff too early? Not even December and we’ve already seen most of the good movies/shows. They’re going to repeating the same stuff even moreso than usual!

Ghosted by Cameron T. @ 11/22/2008 9:54 PM EST

I am trying not to watch anything I really like until closer to the real deal. A lot of them are being played several times I hope.

I always try to save A Christmas Story for the 24 hr marathon even though I have the dvd.

Ghosted by Amy @ 11/22/2008 9:56 PM EST

I’m deciding on a movie to watch tonight. The husbands at work and the kids are asleep. I’m also going to have a snack of left over rice with lots of soy sauce! Rice is seriously the best food ever!

Ghosted by IHAQ @ 11/22/2008 9:58 PM EST

6 inches.

I should be drinking. Think I’m gonna pour something alcoholic into a cup and watch some TV.

That sounds nice.

YAY…I don’t know what for. I lost my keys today, somewhere within a block radius of my house. I think I got ripped off cause it cost 193 dollars to make a new one.
So, by costly force I too am relaxing at home this evening ;)

The Christmas Story marathon is a bittersweet deal for me. Ever since my sister officially took control of our family’s Christmas Eve dinner several years ago, it’s been nigh impossible to catch a viewing. (The rooms with televisions in her house are strictly kid zones, and good luck trying to tell them to unplug the eighty video game systems so you can watch a movie from 1983.)

I was going to buy a small, flatscreen TV for our bedroom anyway — perhaps I’ll do that next month, but bring it over there to set up in their living room for the Eve. Might be a tad obsessive, but oh well.

Ghosted by Matt @ 11/22/2008 10:03 PM EST

a tad obsessive, and TOTALLY WORTH IT.

i am lucky there. we go to my husband’s mom’s house and since we have no kids, WE are the kids. we get to do whatever we want and she babies us. it’s awesome.

Ghosted by Amy @ 11/22/2008 10:05 PM EST

Glad I’m not the only one that made it a todazy day. Accomplished nothing, even worse I watched A League Of Their Own…..

On the bright side I have Patton Oswalt tickets for his show later. Hooray!

Happy SNT everybody! On my way out for fixings because we’re having Turkey Day tomorrow. Thanks to my roommate going out of town I have liberated my Wii and I’m hoping to hit up some Smash later if I’m not stuck doing prep cleaning all night :?

I’ve always loved The Santa Clause. Finally saw the second one last year and thought it was passable since they got the original cast plus Juliet from LOST but then I just spent the whole movie making “Charlie” jokes. Don’t think I would brave the third one though.

I don’t think that’s too bad, Matt. That reminds me of something I’ve been meaning to tell you guys about, a few weeks back my mom called me over to see something in a catalog that she thought would be a good gift for my sister. Turned out to be one of those cool replicas of the leg lamp. I was like, hey, awesome, Christmas Story! And she had no idea what I meant. She just thought it was neat! :D

Just relaxing here too. I have a cold, you see, and do not want to go anywhere. Going to play some Castlevania for awhile.

Ghosted by Lucky Mesmer @ 11/22/2008 10:21 PM EST

I will edit a video of a pig slaughter while drinking a Killian’s.

Ghosted by WolfMan @ 11/22/2008 10:42 PM EST

I’ve always wanted to say this: I really love X-E’s Christmas background. It’s so dark and festive.

Ghosted by Kapprika @ 11/22/2008 10:46 PM EST

I made the bf take me to see Twilight today. Movie was like 1/100 as good as the book. Kind of a let-down. :(

Ghosted by Mystie @ 11/22/2008 10:50 PM EST

Like ya’ll iv’e done jack squat all day. I said it befor in the last thread, but since everybodies moved on, i’ll say it again. Happy SNT ya’ll! =D If any one here has Mario Kart Wii, i’m on right now. squee4242: I ‘ll be up for some Brawlin later if you need an opponent. Matt: I think iv’e said this before, but even if I have i’ll say it again, get Mario Kart Wii. TRUST ME, it’s EXTREMELY fun!!! It’s also REALLY easy to play. I’d like to race you . I suggest picking that out for Christmas. Or better yet, get it early. =) Just a suggestion.

Ghosted by ULTRAMAN @ 11/22/2008 10:50 PM EST

Around here TBS got changed to Peachtree TV, and it does not play A Christmas Story marathon, it sucks big time. I really really hope someone buys it for me this year. I don’t buy stuff for myself very often so I can’t justify buying it. I would totally bring my own TV to a family function to watch me some Christmas goodness, good call Matt!

The movie I decided on tonight is Uncle Buck, I donno, you just can’t resist a John Hughes movie. Or anything with John Candy!

Ghosted by IHAQ @ 11/22/2008 10:53 PM EST

Matt ,

Obsess away. i am cooking the Thanksgiving meal this year which means ill be in the kitchen while the parade is on , so i made my wife go out and buy me a 20″ flat screen for the kitchen so i dont miss one balloon take out a light post and maim some one . i told her its that or her mother can eat soup out of a can ..so i got my TV :) .

Ghosted by Starscream77 @ 11/22/2008 10:57 PM EST

Kapprika: Thanks! I really was in debate over whether to use it because it’s SO Christmassy and, well, you really can’t be in a hate-Christmas kind of mood and look at a background like this. :)

Mystie: If it’s an consolation on the vampire fiction front, True Blood has really blossomed into quite a show.

Ghosted by Matt @ 11/22/2008 10:57 PM EST

Relaxing is one of the best things to be working on. All I’ve accomplished today is done 4 loads of laundry. And watched like 10 episodes of Arrested Development.

A taste of Christmas in Oklahoma. I think I saw a mention of it in a thread a few days ago, and so I had to go looking for it.

I am in a hotel room in New Jersey. I am full of shrimp cocktail and vodka. And today, I mooned New Jersey from my hotel room window.

Take that, Somerset. I am the sex goddess.

Matt

I love the background, too…just promise you won’t leave it up until Easter like it happened a few years ago.. :)

(How long ago WAS that, anyway? Wow, I think I’ve been reading this site since 2001 now…)

Ghosted by Cameron T. @ 11/22/2008 11:05 PM EST

I dig the background, too–and speaking of Christmas lights, I’m all about the traditional multi-color strands. I’m not a huge fan of one-color variety. One year, my mom did our house all in just blue and green lights, and while it looked somewhat cool, it certainly wasn’t “Christmas” enough for me. Maybe it’s just nothing more than pure nostalgia, but give me generic, multi-colored lights any day of the week!

Ghosted by Review the World @ 11/22/2008 11:11 PM EST

Time to watch ‘Ghostbusters’ for the 1,345,236 time.

Ghosted by 4-LOM @ 11/22/2008 11:16 PM EST

i like the multi-color too, but i like the big lights not those little ones like on the back ground. I just like the matted finish on the old fashioned lights like my grandma had on her tree… makes me all warm and fuzzy :D

Ghosted by Starscream77 @ 11/22/2008 11:16 PM EST

I am curious if anyone else here had the same tradition as me growing up- day after Thanksgiving, I helped my dad put up Christmas lights on the outside of our house and up in our apple trees and along our shrubs. I didnt do a lot with my dad, so it was like our special thing that we did do together every year. We had to stop putting lights in the shrubs though, one year, the shrub closest to the driveway had a bad accident involving my dad and the snow blower…lol. We heard cussing and then it seemed to be darker outside than it had been..lol.

Ghosted by crazy_mainer @ 11/22/2008 11:21 PM EST

Oops, I just accidentaly broke a christmas decoration walkin by it. I’m not exactly graceful.

Ghosted by ULTRAMAN @ 11/22/2008 11:21 PM EST

Well the spiritual show only half came in and was stuff I’ve heard before, so I decided I really wanted to listen to a particular version of ‘Silver Bells’…unfortunately I only have it on tape and am too lazy to go find it and my tape player. So I’ve settled for a CD in the same series, the original Christmas in the Northwest.

Hey Matt,
What’s the deal with the calendar above? I can click on the Dec 23 picture. Are you testing something. The images look like they belong to some Alternate Reality Game, or viral marketing? What are you up to?

I’m getting ready for the new SNL tonight. Tim McGraw is hosting.

Yeah, Day after Thanksgiving was almost always the “get the tree out of the attic” day for us. I, too, have fond memories of my Dad and I doing that. My mom rarely did anything except help put the cranberry strand on the tree.

Wow, there are a LOT of “newbies” asking about Box 23! :) If you’re new: It’s a big mystery…there’s a thread about it a few blog posts back…

Ghosted by Cameron T. @ 11/22/2008 11:38 PM EST

Anybody warm and toasty? The heats go all out.

Ghosted by ULTRAMAN @ 11/22/2008 11:57 PM EST

Cameron T.
Thanks for reminding me of that. Since I get to check the site at work most often, and my work computer doesn’t have sound, I completely forgot to check that post at home later to find out about the wav file. Tonight was the first night I happen to notice the picture change. Silly me, I should expect nothing less from Matt.
Cheers.

Sure is a nice SNT tonight. Trying to think of ways to get back into SNT these days…

Going to try to work up some more blog posts, but lost all my ideas thus far.

Ghosted by Terror Claws @ 11/23/2008 12:06 AM EST

i spent my day at work…waking up at the time that i had to be there, and rushing to get there as soon as i could. then i went to target and bought some groceries and my third christmas ornament of the year….the abominable snowman from rudolph, and then i came home and made oreo balls. ah yes, glorious glorious oreo balls. also, made a list of clues that i am trying to make sense of for the advent calendar.

Ghosted by Leigha @ 11/23/2008 12:11 AM EST

What are oreo balls?

It seems incredible necessary for me to know this.

Ghosted by Rev. Back It On Up 13 @ 11/23/2008 12:12 AM EST

oh, and sorry for possible double post, but Mystie I am in the process of reading twilight for the first time right now, and i absolutely love it. to think i was scoffing at it mere weeks ago…

Ghosted by Leigha @ 11/23/2008 12:14 AM EST

I’m warm and toasty from some John Hughes.

For me the outside lights are best when just red and green or plain white. Lights on a tree can be all the colours of the rainbow. Tackier the better! I’m the biggest fan of my Christmas tree. It came with the lights already attached, no more struggling with stringing up lights for this household!

I know this has been talked about before, but if I could make my tree look like Pluto’s tree (maybe without Chip and Dale) I would happiest. I’m still about about tinsel to try to achieve this look!

Ghosted by IHAQ @ 11/23/2008 12:14 AM EST

I second the need to know what Oreo Balls are!

Ghosted by IHAQ @ 11/23/2008 12:16 AM EST

I started putting up my lights today, even though it was the coldest day so far (northern CT) and I usually wait until after Thanksgiving, I started anyway. It’s probably a good thing too because the ground is beginning to freeze and to wait may only make it more difficult later.

I think the bitter cold and proximity to Thanksgiving is starting to make me feel more Christmassy, I’ve managed to ignore it pretty well so far this November but it’s wearing me down.

Ghosted by DarthPez @ 11/23/2008 12:17 AM EST

oreo balls are a dessert that consists of cream cheese and crushed oreos, mixed together and then formed into 1″ balls, and dipped on chocolate and put in the fridge. they are fabulous. plus it gave me the excuse to say balls ad nauseum today…..perhaps more than a pubescent boy…

Ghosted by Leigha @ 11/23/2008 12:18 AM EST

oh and IHAQ, I am with you on the tacky christmas tree. i buy the most flamboyant ornaments and have so many lights its ridiculous. i always tell people i am trying to dress my christmas tree like the world’s tackiest drag queen. one of my managers used to raise peacocks(i know, its weird) and she had a bunch of feathers, so i am making a garland out of that this year….hopefully it works out….

Ghosted by Leigha @ 11/23/2008 12:20 AM EST

Yes, tells us whats ‘oreo balls’!
