The Advent Calendar is almost here. :o

Tough to believe that we're about a week and a half away from the 2008 Advent Calendar! Now, truth time: I know that not all of the site's core readers bother with the Advent Calendar. I'd say half of them do, at best. I hope that number will increase this year, but even if not, hey, it's pretty nice that even that many people count it among their holiday traditions. Plus, talking through Waiterbot really helps relieve my stress.

I don't know how to explain the Advent Calendar to those who've never read it. What started off simply has now grown so complicated that, frankly, even I have trouble remembering the continuity. The best way to understand the Advent Calendar is by reading it, so below are links to the first six editions. You need to read all of them to "get" it, but note that the real storyline-driven Advent Calendars didn't begin until 2004.

The Advent Calendar: 2002.
The Advent Calendar: 2003.
The Advent Calendar: 2004.
The Advent Calendar: 2005.
The Advent Calendar: 2006.
The Advent Calendar: 2007.

After spending so many holiday seasons with these characters, it's hard for me to picture Christmas without them. Every year, my only goal is to top the previous story. Considering that last year's Advent Calendar featured a human-sized rabbit and James Lipton turning his "hand cavities" into flame throwers, we're probably in for some fucked up shit this December.

The Advent Calendar is not only my favourite thing on the site, it is also my favourite thing about Christmas. I should probably mention though, that in my part of the world, Christmas is so hot that people tend to do as little of anything as possible, so there’s not much in the way of competition. Anyway, looking forward to it.

I just realized that I’ve been reading these Christmas Countdowns for EIGHT years now. This website never ceases to amaze me! I can’t tell you any other place on the ‘net that I visited eight years ago… other than this one.

Matt, you get a free pass if you never update your site all summer long, so long as you continue with the Halloween and Christmas Countdowns.

We should make a stop motion movie, using all the characters you’ve accumulated for the past eight years. I’d seriously pay to see it 8)

You know Grindhouse, is it evil if I keep hoping that some day this gets animated, and put on the cartoon network?

We all know what Waiterbot would sound like, and I assume Mare Winningham, but what about the rest of the characters?

I kind of imagine Kuse voiced by Matt Stone, Knacks, by Tray Parker. Don’t know who would do “Mista Snowman,” HU, Hare Winninham, Tigerboy etc.

I too yearn for a day when this is made into a series of stop motion (probably CGI these days) Christmas specials. Would be neat if Mare Winningham played the part of Mare, too.

I ADORE the Advent Calendar. That’s how I found this site, in fact…I was googling to see what a lego advent looked like, and landed here, two years ago now! I’ve been looking forward to this for ages…can’t wait to see what we get into this year!

Alex, Mare Winningham as Mare would be priceless. To this day whenever I see her in something, or whenever I see James Lipton, I always giggle because of the Advent Calendar.

Heck, I didn’t even know she was based on an actual actress until I reread the 2002 one in the middle of the 2006 calendar.

Hey, you guys might be interested in checking out the new 2009 lego line. It’s going back to a more oldschool approach, with simpler sets and relying more on the classic bricks. The pirates line is particularly cool. Some of the sets are turning up at Toys R Us and Lego Stores now. I’m jazzed about it.

Dude, do you think that Tigerboy could check his myspace account once in awhile? I’ve had a friend request in since last Christmas. His request box is probably full.

Just want to comment with support for the advent calenders. It’s something I look forward to every Christmas.

Although oddly enough, I never finish them. By the time 12/23 or 12/24 rolls around I’m usually busy with real-life family stuff and forget to see the finale. But then I catch up when it’s reposted the next year, and suddenly I’m totally feeling the Christmas spirit.

I read the final couple of days for 2007′s calender, just minutes ago. It was great! Can’t wait to see what 2008 brings us. This is going to be a great Christmas.

Does anyone remember when there use to be the Advert Calendar? Matt, I wish that you really did the Advert Calendar again.

Whaddya mean not everybody gets into the Advent? Any visitor to this site worth their salt looks forward to it.

I’ve tried to drum up support for it in the realms of cyberspace outside X-E, but to no avail. No one who visits my site is into Waiterbot.

This will be my third year reading the advent calendar as a tradition. It always made my day in college because it started to come out right around finals when I needed a laugh.

A couple of weeks ago, I tried explaining the Advent Calendar to my boyfriend in a McDonalds and I got so excited talking about it that people at another table started staring at me.

Yay! It’s Advent time!!!!!!

I hope Mr Owl gets some lines this year!!!

And Christmas is the only time I visit this site multiple times a day. How can anyone not be engrossed by the calendar?

As Mista Snowman would say : TIME FOR SOME CHRISTMAS MAGIC!!!!

Chestnuts roasted by Arkenor @ 11/27/2008 11:07 AM

You know what? I’m not ashamed (Well, a little bit ashamed) to admit that the Advent Calendar brings me back to this site every year. January through November, I’ll take the occasional look, sure, but come December, I’m here every day. So your regular readers might not all bother with the calendar, but there’s those of us who come here specifically for it.

And I, for one, can’t wait…
