First time poster • Long, long time reader. Matt: I know you get a lot of emails, but did you happen to see the special photoshop project I made for you? I’m worried you didn’t see it because I sent it via a link to imageshack. Is that the best way to show you something? Let me know if it isn’t. As for my Holiday Celebration: I do each holiday one at a time, no Christmas for me until Thanksgiving is over with! For Halloween I watched the Garfield and Peanuts specials, as well as numerous scary movies. I’ve already watched the Garfield Thanksgiving special, Peanuts is coming up but I am going to wait until I have enough supplies to recreate the feast the way Matt did while I watch it. I hope my girlfriend and I can eat 4 loaves worth of toast in the 16 minutes or so it takes for the show to be over. For Christmas I got the hook up. I have all the Rankin & Bass stuff, Garfield, Peanuts, A Christmas Story, Prancer, and a few others I am forced to watch alone out of embarrassment because they make me squeal. I especially can’t wait for Thanksgiving to be over because I will then allow myself to bust out my Cthulhu-themed Christmas CDs. If I didn’t keep a strict discipline regarding this CD, you’d hear “It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Fish-Men” blaring from my car year-round. Oh god I can’t wait to hear “Mi-Go We Have Heard on High” again.

Happy Birthday, Muppet Baby! Aw, our little Muppet Baby is growing up. Soon she’ll just be a full on Muppet.

I’ve heard of this so called snow. I’ve seen it on the talking looky box that sits in my living room that has all the little people in it. I know not of it in real life. It just doesn’t happen here (SC). And white Christmas? I’d love to see that but it won’t ever happen here in my lifetime. In fact the last time I saw snow at all was in Jan. of ’01. That was a big one. All of my neighbors and I called out of school or work and we spent the whole day riding sleds, making snowmen and sitting around eating beef stew and drinking apple cider. Man, what a day.

Confession: I’ve never made a snowman.

I was at FYE over the weekend and they had a section of DVD’s there of just Christmas movies and specials. Might want to check that out.

A killer gingerbread man? What’s next? A killer elf with his canabalistic reindeer? Christmas ornaments coming to life to kill? A killer tree weilding a chainsaw because they’re tired of being cut down every year?

Remember, there are 5 less days between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year.

know what my dad is getting me for christmas this year? a snowblower. jealous?

last year our house just about disappeared under the snow. i haven’t made a snowman in years…but the most fun thing you all are missing out on is snow forts. when i was little we had this plastic thing that you put snow in to make bricks. it was awesome. once your fort is done, you can crawl inside and it’s warmer than being out in the snow.  i guess that’s the point of igloos…

Amy–I have heard enough!

Enough!

Someone above mentioned Thanksgiving specials…

Does anyone remember the Smurfs special… Something about a magic flute?  I used to love that… they always played it around Thanksgiving… Oh and does anyone remember the holiday cartoon shows that TBS used to run?  They would always have a Halloween one (usually it was old packaged looney tunes and Tom and Jerry episodes) featuring the big red Hair Monster, a Thanksgiving special featuring the Hiawatha episode with Elmer Fudd as Hiawatha and a Christmas episode feautring a story about mice set in World War II… The mice lived in the helmets of soldiers… all of humanity had killed each other off… I miss those specials…

Oh awesome-o. Great list Ubik. I am all about the old Claymation Christmas special that is hosted by Dinosaurs.
And, Santa is a dick.

I refuse to get Christmasy until Thanksgiving is over.

I saw a Thanksgiving episode of 3rd Rock From the Sun yesterday.  There is also a good Simpsons Thanksgiving episode.  Not to mention the best…WKRP in Cincinnati:  “As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.”

Then there’s this trailer from Grindhouse:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02n0koHeQZw

Happy birthday, Muppet Baby!

I got yer lightbulbs right here pal.

Chestnuts roasted by JoshC @ 11/10/2008 2:57 PM

Bobby A–I totally remember those. I also miss the old prime time specials that networks would have in the summer that would showcase their upcoming Saturday morning cartoon lineups.

Bill–Is that the same one that had The California Raisins in it? It was pretty funny. I also used to love the Claymation Easter Special.

Santa is a Dick = LOL! Thanks, Bill!

Another holiday special to check out:
Jeff Dunham’s Very Special Chrismas Special
I can’t wait for that! And Stephan Colbert’s Christmas Special: The Greatest Gift of All.
And South Park Christmas Specials. Mr. Hankey, The Christamas Poo A-go-go! Also, has anyone seen John Cena: My Life? I’m a Cena fan, and can’t WAIT till Survivor Series, where he’ll win the World Heavyweight Championship from Chris Jericho. Life is good.

Sorry for the double post, but I forgot to mention The Santa Claus 1-2. 3 is horrible, though. Also, can’t wait for the 7-Eleven Christmas Slurpee! I LOVE SLURPEES! And, the mocha Slurpee is crap. Blech!

Happy Birthday Muppet Baby!   I turn 27 in December, which when I think about it, doesnt make sense. 27?  When did I get to 26? LOL.

Happy Birthday Muppet Baby !  Hope ya have a good un! I’m REALLY hopin for some snow this year. I just LOVES me a white Christmas.

Someone over at Retroland mentioned that this is Chia Pet and Clapper season. Sadly those commercials are going extinct and I barely see them during Christmas anymore.

Holy Crap! Happy Birthday, Muppet Baby!

I went to Wal-Mart on Saturday to pick up sewing supplies and they were playing Christmas music. It made me want to puke. I mean, I love Christmas and all (though perhaps not to the rabid extent of some folks), but I always get sad when Halloween is shoved over so quickly in favor of ornaments and tree-shaped paraphernalia.

That being said, here are some Christmas staples in our household:

- Ernest Saves Christmas
- Mixed Nuts (silly little holiday comedy starring Steve Martin)
- The Garfield Christmas special (Jon’s grandma KILLS me)
- A Christmas Story (duh)
- A Wish For Wings That Work (the Bloom County holiday special)
- Home Alone
- How The Grinch Stole Christmas (the Chuck Jones cartoon, not that abomination involving Jim Carrey)
- The Muppets Christmas Carol (I think Michael Caine makes an excellent Scrooge)

Oh yeah- and on laser disc (yep, my mother owns a working laser disc player) we have a lovely collection of Disney holiday toons, like the one where the two lovers go ice skating and the guy has to save his girl from going over a waterfall on a piece of ice that comes loose (I think it’s called “Once Upon a Wintertime”). It’s also got Pluto’s Christmas Tree, one of my all-time favorites!

Chestnuts roasted by Cheetara @ 11/10/2008 7:18 PM

Happy birthday Muppet baby.

Also, Bill, are you going to be in Philly over New Years? Cuz if you don’t have plans, you must must must get a ticket to Dracula’s Ball and get drunk and watch The Cruxshadows with me.
