The Ewok that gets killed during the battle on Endor.

I liked that death in The Godfather too Lonestar. The scene that led up to it was perfect. I was happy that they played the remastered film at a theater around here. Seeing that on the big screen made my day.

Apologies for the double post, and sorry for re-mentioning this one (Oops!). But Death Becomes Her contains some good death scenes.. even though they technically don’t die.
Chestnuts roasted by PlantMonster @ 10/19/2008 12:06 AM
Although technically not a death scene because the character only presumably dies, I would include the “death” of Dr. Reinhart at the end of The Black Hole. Easily the first (if not the only) Disney movie to depict one of its’ charatcers literally being sent to Hell. The rest of the movie is pretty uneven, but that was pretty amazing for a 70′s-era Disney flick.

Not sure why it double-posted my first post.

I’d have to go with Taye Diggs getting his face sliced off in Equilibrium. Also, Paul Allen in American Psycho is classic.
Coincidentally, both were killed by Christian Bale characters…

Most disgusting: The entire “Shunting” scene in Society, Most demented: Udo Kier in Cigarette Burns (Masters of Horror).

I’ll read all these later so sorry if this has been mentioned, but my favorite death is Donovan’s from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. You know, when he drinks from the false grail and then rapidly ages in Elsa’s arms, and then turns to dust.
The death scene itself is great, but what makes the whole thing the BEST death scene is the knight turning and saying “he chose….poorly”

Spoiler City here obviously…Invader mentioned this in his recent Greatest Villians Countdown: Judge Doom in Roger Rabbit alternately fascinated and horrified me as a kid, and even now.
I prefer Norb, or Galileo. But yes, Judge Doom’s death was great as he just screams in high-pitched agony when he melts into the DIP. I think it’s what’s left of his face that’s the most scarring. Although I did come out of that movie unscathed.
And speaking of Starscream’s death in the Transformers Movie, I can’t leave out Optimus Prime’s death. So freakin’ sad. I’m pretty sure it’s the reason why they didn’t kill off Duke in the G.I. Joe Movie.

Hoverbored – good call on Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Thomas – good call on Dr. Reinhart. Man, I was obsessed with Maxmillian when I was a little kid.
A favorite of mine is in Wrong Turn, when the girl gets her head chopped off from the mouth up.
And Sleepy Hollow, when Casper Van Dien gets cut in half by Ray Park.
Or Underworld, where Bill Nighy gets his head cut in half diagonally.
Or…uh…did anyone else notice that they’ve gotten really creative with dismembering people in recent years?
(In the non-horror movie category, a death that really and truly upset me as a wee tyke was an animated toy donkey getting pulled apart–while screaming for his life–in the bizarre old flick, “Mouse and His Child.” YouTube it and you’ll know what I mean.)

The fat sweaty guy in Algiers. If you don’t know what I mean it’s because the movie was from the thirties, but they hold this guy who ratted their friend out to the police all day until the friend comes home. He returns beaten half to death and dying, and two guys prop him up and hold up his hand so he can shoot the fat guy before he dies while a player piano blocks out the screaming to the restaurant below. It’s intense especially for something that old. Kind of Tarantino-ish.
oh and Happy birthday to me now that it’s morning.

Sorry Norb! That was an editing mistake. My bad.
Regarding Sopranos, Phil’s death was good, but I’m having trouble ranking it above Big Puss, Adriana’s and especially Ralphie’s or Christophuh’s.
Servo reminded me of another couple of great Masters of Horror episodes. The one Dario Argento directed has Meat Loaf ripping the skin of his entire torso off to present it to his favorite stripper as a gift, that’s a good one. Even better is the John Landis episode where George Wendt is a serial killer that gets the tables turned on him.
Dr. Nick!

It’s all good, squee. Oh, and I’ll 2nd Dr. Nick’s death, but it was later shown in the last new episode “Lost Verizon,” that he was still alive and playing golf with Dr. Hibbert. Rising from the grave?
Speaking of funny deaths, every single time a puppet got shot in “Team America,” I laughed my ass off.
Thomas I saw “The Black Hole” a few months ago for the first time. Man, the ending of that movie was F-ed up beyond belief! I can’t believe Disney made that! Did they die? Did they go on some strange mind-trip? Are they in heaven? I mean seriously WTF?!?!
Chestnuts roasted by Cameron T. @ 10/19/2008 12:59 AM
In “Deadly Friend” when Kristy Swanson’s superhuman strength chucking a basketball at Anne Ramsey’s head results in Anne Ramsey’s head EXPLODING. Never get tired of that one.
Cameron T.,
I just saw The Black Hole for the first time myself, about a week ago. The ending is pretty ambiguous regarding the fate of the Palomino crew. For a few moments, there is the idea that they end up in Heaven, but they seem to be just “passing through”. Two other emotional deaths: Buffy’s mother and the death of Denny Duquette on “Grey’s Anatomy”
The death of Dr. Romano on ER gets my vote for best “OW” death.
The death of Chef on South Park was memorable.

JLAJRC: IIRC, didn’t Dr. Romano have a helicopter fall on him?
