Since you're ruling out deaths, I'd say probably the time a mall manager severely chastised me for taking pictures in "his" mall and threatening to call the police on me. Big whoop, it was a dead mall, the only businesses in it at the time were a Chinese buffet, two offices and a storefront church.

Hopefully not to late to share this story

This is the scariest/weirdest thing that's ever happened to me:
I was doing some photography out in the farm country area of Virginia. I was just starting my portfolio at the time and I was learning how to make prints of my pictures. I was taking pictures of a field. There were some cows grazing, a barn in the background, etc. Suddenly I felt a cold wind come out of nowhere. It was a cloudless, sunny day. I shrugged it off and finished my photography.

When I developed the photographs (yeah it was back in the day) there was a woman dressed all in white standing in the field in some of the photographs. Having been there, I assure you there WAS NOT a woman physically present when I took the pictures. In one of the pictures, though at a distance, I could tell she was staring directly into my lense.

I'm convinced I photographed a ghost.

I've been reading these for the past few days at work and I f*cking love this post, love this site (been geeking out on it since high school). I loo0o0ove Halloween and these stories are rad. I'm not really a "believer", but I've been fascinated with the supernatural since childhood and love hearing, reading & telling stories and visiting haunted places, etc. This is a tale of something that happened to me around 2004 that kind of made me doubt the whole 'figment-of-imagination' thing. I have to preface this by being honest though: This incident happened on a Friday. The night before (Thurs) was one of the first time's I'd ever gotten REALLYYYYYYY stoned at college, and sort of got "the fear". However, it is worthy of note that despite my virgin status at the time (long gone, hehe) I didn't "hallucinate" or experience anything that wasn't par for the course, just heard people talking from across the room when they were next to me, felt like I was sinking into the mattress, etc. So that was Thursday night. The next day I woke up early to do community service with my bad boy boyfriend & his friend at the time (so dreamy) who had been arrested & had to do like 10 community service hours. I arranged that we do a stint at a doggie celebration day in Central Park, so I went to that all burnt out at about 7 am and stayed till 7pm... point of this slight backstory was, I was mad tired when we got back to his brother's apartment in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Those of you who are familiar with this neighborhood know that many apartments here are lofts converted from old factories. Like, industrial revolution status. Pretty primitive...crazy ass hand cranked old freight elevators, if any, and usually just walk-ups. So BF's brother lived here with 2 roommates. BF, BF's friend & I arrive to his brother's apt and only his brother is home. Roomies are out. BF & friend leave to pick up a pizza for dinner. It's just me and his brother in the apartment. So at one point I routinely get up to go pee. Their bathroom is smallish & the rooms are odd because it's a loft, which of course used to just be a big wide open space. The bathroom is configured that when you walk in, theres the toilet, the sink to the left of the toilet (if you are sitting on it) and to the left of that, the shower, all in a row. The shower had the curtain drawn, and I usually am very anal about this due to that lovely scene in the Shining... I usually yank open any & all closed shower curtains in strange bathrooms, even just to wash my hands. But NATCH this time I didn't and of course you could imagine this had a role in me getting scared half to death. I'm peeing and everythings cool, la dee da, and all of a sudden I hear the curtain rings jangle against the pole. Upon hearing this, I just glance over toward the shower and the curtains are moving a bit like someone had just disturbed them slightly. Then I distinctly see the outline of a FINGER poking the curtain, as if someone was inside the shower just poking into the fabric. I immediately freeze, right there, pants down and the full-body fear stops my pee mid-stream (TMI? SRRY GYS). The first thought that came to my head was that his roommate was in there playing a prank and didn't realize it was a girl and I was just afraid some cute dude would see me with my pants down or something. I had to unclench my muscles and finish up the pee and I literally dashed out of there without wiping (YUM). I'm shaking all over and demanding to know who else is in the house, and BF's brother (who had limited patience for my 18 year old antics) told me to shut up and I was crazy but I demanded he check the bathroom. Of course, no one was there. Months later, after me and BF broke up, his brother passed by my place of work and had a chat with me. He told me weird shit was happening in the bathroom and he thought I'd be interested to know. He claimed he heard muffled conversation outside the door to his room, pacing back and forth, and once heard a huge clatter inside the bathroom. He went in to check it out and saw the entire contents of the medicine cabinet strewn all over the bathroom. They moved out a few months later (unrelated reasons) but always wondered what was up... sounds kind of corny, but one of his roomies at the time had a vintage wooden Ouija board nailed directly above the doorway. I'm pretty sure that's like the one thing you AREN'T supposed to do with one of those things, but who knows for sure. Just kinda spooky. Happy Halloweeners xxx

Way late to post, but will throw in a few: There was an episode of "Tales from the Darkside" about a creature called the Grither, this giant monster who lived at the North Pole who could fly and was a sort of evil counterpart to Santa. If you mentioned him, he would come get you, because he had very large ears and could hear everything. He even had a song: "Oh, I am the Grither / you cannot escape me..." (to the tune of "O Come All Ye Faithful"). I also remember some of the stuff they would show on the "Disney Sunday Night Movie" in the mid eighties. "Mr. Boogedy" scared me so bad that I went back to sharing a room with my little brother, and there was also one about Ed Asner somehow ending up on an old bus and talking to a man in a cowboy hat. And when he finally went to look at the man's face, it was just a skeleton. Man, that was bad. Drew

I know this is an old post, but I just thought of one.. The episode of Punk Brewster where Punky goes into a cave and it's haunted by an evil spirit.. and it fucks up all her friends. and there's this giant spider creature that's supposed to be the evil spirit, but it's really just an extreme closeup of a tarantula with weird lighting. Scared the pants off me when I was younger.
