Thejyav, that’s a pretty good list. Lots of excellent films, some of my favorites. You might add The Mist. Did you guys know that the blob is one of Steve Mcqueen’s earliest films, in fact, I think it’s his first.

Re: The Mist – I’ve been trying to watch the black-and-white director’s cut for a week, but my DVD player isn’t having it.  I thought it was just the movie in black-and-white with maybe a few edits or extra scenes, but from what I hear, it’s actually substantially different.  Has anyone seen it?

We’ve got F13 VII on right now.  Background noise.  Lots of huffing from Lar Park.  I dunno.

I have a huge new bottle of gin.  It came with a beautiful glass.  Normally I don’t buy anything if it comes with something else, but the liquor store woman pressured me, so now I’ve got this big glass and this big bottle of gin.  Seems like a recipe for trouble.  Should I now begin to defile myself in a gin-fueled hellride?

Y/N?

Hey everybody!  Long time reader, first time commenter. After spending the latter half of the day putting up Halloween lights and whatnot, my Saturday evening was ruined when I popped in my netflix’d copy of Forgetting Sarah Marshall only to have it refuse to play anything other than the first scene.  Apparently the disc, which my wife and I have had lying around unopened in its little mailer for a couple of weeks now, somehow got this big, red smudge on it during shipping.  Yay. Anyhow, with my wife turning in early I’ve got to choose whether I want to spend the rest of the night watching Hellraiser (or some other horror movie) via Netflix on-demand or try to make some progress on that new Silent Hill game.  What say you, good patrons of X-E? Oh, and either choice will be accompanied by pumpkin bread and a Sam Adams Oktoberfest, so I guess I can’t lose either way.

Ack.  why did my post show up as a giant wall o’ text?  Guess I need to learn the ropes of the X-E commenting system.

any X-E’rs in the San Francisco area?  I really need people to hang out with besides by girlfriend.  phant0mz0ne (at) yahoo.com.  http://www.myspace.com/boingophile

Goat: Not your fault.  We’re working through some bugs in the comment form.

And I vote Hellraiser. :)

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 10/11/2008 11:45 PM

I second Hellraiser. I would love some pumpkin bread right now to go with the Killian’s I’m enjoying.

Chestnuts roasted by Dawson @ 10/11/2008 11:55 PM

My pumpkin bread will kick your ass.  Enjoy it with a fine Killian’s and a cushion for your aching ass.

I’ve watched The Mist b&w edition and I think it’s vastly superior to the color version. Like, I would pick it over the color version every time, but I honestly can’t recall it being substantially different. I could be wrong, but it’s really the mood that changes more than anything. It’s SO cool in black and white though, don’t ask me why.

Chestnuts roasted by squee4242 @ 10/11/2008 11:59 PM

I got plenty o’ cushions

Chestnuts roasted by Dawson @ 10/12/2008 12:00 AM

squee: I suspect that b&w would eradicate some of the cheesiness of certain special effects — especially the tentacle creature from early in the movie, which is obviously going to feel smoother in b/w.

What?  Huh?  It’s SNT?!  Where the hell did Friday go!?!?  And I missed the first half hour of SNL too!  Curses!

I blame Waiterbot.  And steriods.

Chestnuts roasted by Captain Will @ 10/12/2008 12:06 AM

Please explain Waiterbot.  I do not know what this is.  Would I contain this knowledge if I had been a blog reader for years?  Or did I know what is Waiterbot but purged those files from my memory warehouse to make room for the lyrics to Blue BIOU?

Yeah Goat R I did the Hellraiser via Netflix “Watch Instantly” the other week. Grossed me out at first, bleck. But they’ve seriously been getting some good movies lately for the streaming thing. Like popular recent movies and shit. It’s pretty sweet.

Two words Rev.:  Advent Calendar.

Chestnuts roasted by Captain Will @ 10/12/2008 12:11 AM

Every time some mystery appears on here, it can be traced back to this so-called “Advent Calendar”.  I suspect that if/when a new advent calendar arrives, I will be as much in the dark as I am today.  I’ll be like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie.  This is about unchecked aggression.  Across this line, you do not.  Frustration, thy name is Waiterbot!

Gin.

Chestnuts roasted by Rev. Back It On Up @ 10/12/2008 12:13 AM

Rev.- Go to the X-E mainpage, scroll down until you see the search field, type in “Advent Calendar,” find the earliest one (2002 I believe), and start reading until you get through 2007.  Then you will be all caught up, and won’t be bewildered when December 1 rolls around.

Chestnuts roasted by Captain Will @ 10/12/2008 12:16 AM

Yeah, that’s a big part of it! The creatures that didn’t quite work 100% in color come across much better, and the ones that always looked decent, like the bugs, look really good. And the whole thing feels like a really awesome Twilight Zone episode. Rev, Waiterbot is a recentish member of the motley Advent crew, which we’ll have plenty of time to get newly or reacquainted with come November 1. Once a lowly sushi server, now a sporadic movie reviewer with delusions of grandeur.

Chestnuts roasted by squee4242 @ 10/12/2008 12:28 AM

@Matt: Apparently the only difference between the color and black-and-white versions of The Mist is the color, or lack thereof. Absolutely none of the content differs from version to version.

Columbia House seems to think that the Blu-ray version hasn’t been released yet, so I’m still waiting on that. I loved the movie.

The X-E Advent Calendar(s) has sucked away so many countless hours of my life.

Chestnuts roasted by Ann @ 10/12/2008 12:31 AM

Me too, Ann, me too.

Ain’t it great?

Chestnuts roasted by Captain Will @ 10/12/2008 12:41 AM

Rev: my sister lives near new paltz…thats where she went to graduate school SUNY Newpaltz.  I might go to some hayride horror thingy…don’t now though…husband always works late.  Plus with gas still a little pricey, I don’t know If I could justify the trip to philly.  The different orchards and farms here have haunted hayrides though…

Happy SNT everyone!

They built a haunted house attraction in my hometown. It’s themed to look like an insane asylum. Someone attacked it verbally, saying it is
offensive to mentally ill people. Why do Halloween haters try to ruin
it for those who love it? Geez, we don’t have a Native American
smothering Jack Nicholson. Like I said, the attraction is a haunted
insane asylum. What kind of things do your hometowns have for
Halloween?
