Hi all, I am trying to pick out some more scary movies for our mini Halloween party we are having next week. My friends and I are not so much into the gore/slasher stuff. The movies we have so far to watch next weekend include: Sleepy Hollow, From Hell, The Crow, Underworld, Young Frankenstein. Any suggestions of more movies to add to this bunch we already have? Movies of a similar nature? Thanks in advance!!! Happy SNT!

I need to catch up on some updates this week so the wife falling asleep early gives me the chance. We are horror movie festing till and probably through Halloween. So far last night we watched Frankenstein (with Karloff) tonight was the black cat (with Karloff and Lagosi). IF you like the old movies and have not seen that one it’s spectacular. It’s fun to watch the two icons together and the movie is just plain evil.

Arr, sounds like another SNT with the compatriots. We’re staying with relatives till I find a job, and we just moved from my family to hers for awhile. SNT not being able to watch/do what you want sucks. Although if I get the DVD player, I brought Garfield and Peanuts Halloween specials to get me in that mood.
If you aren’t into gore, but like some terror, see Cube.

I agree with Thejyav, the Black Cat is quite a good flick. I’m such a sucker for the classics. I just finished watching Gojira, from 1954. I just picked up Frankenstein Created Woman, staring Peter Cushing, I’m thinking that’ll finish off my evening nicely. Anyone see it?

I already know Tuesday will be a Blood for Dracula/Flesh for Frankenstein double feature.

I have not Dawson and will admit I’m woefully inexperienced at at Hammer horror films but plan on correcting that this month.
I am all about the horror movies right now on a movie message board im on we do movie drafts and just finished up horror movies…so much stuff I need to see.

so far MMT is good and gory

crazy_mainer: The ‘burbs. That is a perfect movie to watch for Halloween if you don’t want anything too gory or scary. Then again I’m probably a little biased towards the movie. I could literally watch it once a week. Happy SNT all. (BTW, does anyone else have trouble getting the bold button (or any of the buttons for that matter) to work in the new message posting area? Maybe it is because I am using Firefox. When I click them, nothing happens.

Midnight Meat Train was a disappointment. It blows its wad relatively early in the flick, and then you realize you couldn’t care less about the photographer.
@Goob: Yeah, I’m so used to typing out the basic HTML for italics and such. It’s just become second nature.
If you can see [REC], do it. Again, it’s the Spanish original of Quarantine. One hour, fifteen minutes long. I finished it ten minutes ago and am now stopping shaking. I haven’t seen a movie that actually scared me in ages. My dreams will be plagued tonight.
mysteryd8: The last ten minutes of [REC] will stay with me for the rest of my life. That is certainly a movie every horror fan should witness. I’ve heard they intended to make Quarantine as close to the original as possible, including hiring the same “actor” for the final scene.

Yeah, sorry about the HTML code issue, guys. I’ll have my coding buddy make it so it works both ways.
I re-watched The Sixth Sense this week, it has been a few years since I last saw it, and I had kinda hoped the interim would rekindle the movie. No such luck, it was like watching home videos or something. Hard to believe that its been so long since it came out.

oh man TF I could watch the burbs all day

1992’s Columbia’s Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula is on here at the moment. I either forgot or never appreciated what a corker it is. It’s so very ’32’s Jekyll and Hyde with its in-camera trickery. That and Most Dangerous Game. Ooh, now Tom Waits is howling while hired hands with rat cages on their heads hose Bedlamesque twitchers down.

Congrats on the new baby, Mandi Shuan, I always get totally sick from the flu shot too!
Happy SNT all! Nice to see so many peeps around, how’s everybody doing tonight? Some of you might enjoy this, Betty White on Craig Ferguson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxL7MKsGoPo
I could have sworn I had IFC, but apparently it’s just in my cable lineup to tease me. I have Sundance Channel though, totally arbitrary.
crazy_mainer: American Werewolf in London and Death Becomes Her. And Ghostbusters, of course.
Crazy you need some lost boys in there if you want to go old school I’d say Creature from the black lagoon.

I bought the Charlie Brown “Prowling Pumpkin Patch” set they sell at CVS on Thursday, and just tried it for the first time.
To all my fellow X-E Halloween worshippers, I highly recommend you pick one of these up for yourselves. It’s really cute, and you get a lot of value for $20. I realize it was reviewed in last year’s Countdown, but for anyone who missed it, this is what it is:
You get a nicely detailed pumpkin patch base, two dead trees that plug into the base, and four cool little figures: Snoopy crouching down in WWI Flying Ace attire, Linus, Lucy in witch costume and Charlie Brown. But it’s not just Charlie Brown–as an extra accessory, you also get his “full of holes” ghost costume, which fits over the figure.
It also has Snoopy’s doghouse, which doesn’t really belong in a pumpkin patch, but it’s a push-button that star the thing running. Push the doghouse, and the figures twirl in a circle around the base while a rather loud version of “Lins & Lucy” plays from a built-in speaker.
A nice base, two trees, four great little figures (five if you count the ghost costume separately), twirling “prowl” action, and the theme song, all for $20. What’s not to love?
Get thee to a CVS and pick up one of these things. It’ll bring a smile to your face!
(And if anyone cares, tonight I shall be viewing Disney’s Halloween Treat. I got a DVD on eBay. Haven’t seen it in probably 10 years or more, but I used to love it as a kid. Yippee, Halloween!)

I would like to recommend “Phenomena”. Jennifer Connelly when she was like 12 talking to insects, Donald Pleasance, deformed kids, and a killer monkey. Pretty good.

I forgot to mention if you want to go older you can’t go wrong with all things Vincent Price

You guys rock, thank you so much for the suggestions, many of these movies I have never heard of!

@Crazy:
You totally need to check out The Changeling, a 1980 ghost story starring George C. Scott.
Nobody knows who Fart X is. I am a mystery of enormous proportions. Fart X strikes again!

Oh and for a real trip, check out Jacob’s Ladder.

Yeah, Crazy, The Changeling is a wonderfully frightening film staring Scott in an amazing role. Very li’l gore, but lots of atmosphere. Great call, Mysteryd8.

How about “Magic”? Sir Anthony Hopkins and a psycho dummy!

Safely in a house and off the roads again. Unfortunately, am not feeling great. I didn’t even get a flu shot! (They always totally make me sick, too).
Have been in the process of trying to talk my non-horror-movie-watching husband into watching the original “Nightmare on Elm Street” for a week, but the big fraidy cat won’t do it, so I’m horror marathon-ing it all on my lonesome…
But not tonight. Hope you cats have lots of fun… I’m getting loads of rest instead. Blech.

Grilled steaks tonight. Weird grilling in a heavy coat.
didn’t care. Tasted great.
Oh, and I’m having hostess’ “Scary” cakes for dessert!
Matt enjoy the wine.

Nope, far from it. I reside in Youngstown, Ohio. Knoxville is a nice place though, Mysteryd8.

Let’s not forget “The worst Witch.”

My co workers and I had a pretty good learning experience tonight: Don’t do IHOP takeout. Long story, but I was one of the fortunate ones that got out of it. I only got Original Syrup when I requested Blueberry. It didn’t matter, it was still good syrup.
Also, their omelettes are HUGE. It was one of the rare times where I couldn’t finish something. I blame the fact that I also ate the 3 pancakes that came with it.

Just got back from New Paltz. Drove all the way there to go to the haunted hayride but couldn’t get in. Didn’t by tickets in advance. Rev. Back It On Up 13 is a WINNAR everybody.
So we had pie in a diner and drove home. SNT is my world right now. Make my world wonderful.
