Halloween Countdown ’08: Dancing Jason Contest Results!

This has nothing to do with Halloween, but I had to mention it since the DVD is finally out. If you're at all into Avatar: The Last Airbender, please check out the Book 3 DVD box set. I wrote/produced/directed the 20-minute "Women of Avatar" special feature on the bonus disc, and I'm pretty proud of how it turned out. Avatar is/was such a great show, and I feel so lucky to have been able to work on so many of its corresponding TV spots. Getting to do a special feature really took the cake, and this was an absolute blast for us to put together.

Thanks to all who stuck around for last night's horror movie marathon. I totally conked out during Trilogy of Terror 2, but I guess that was to be expected after mixing a poorly made martini with half a bottle of red wine. Expect more of the same on all Saturday nights from now through Halloween, so if you find yourself lifeless on any upcoming weekends, come on over!

AND NOW, it's time to name the BIG WINNERS in the "Draw Jason Voorhees Dancing" Art Contest!

Choosing the winners was TOUGH. Really tough. I'm a little hesitant to even name the champs, because over 75 entries came in and almost all of them were the fruits of serious labor. Please don't feel bad if you weren't christened a grand champion for this one. There could only be so many winners. I'll show off more of the entries later this week, but for now, let's focus on those that were exquisite enough to be rewarded with free Ghoul-Aid.

After seeing the wealth of tremendous entries, I decided to increase the prize opportunities: We now have two grand prize winners and eleven runners-up. If I had more Ghoul-Aid, there'd be even more.

Without further ado, your two grand prize winners are....

GRAND PRIZE WINNER #1:

"It's The Great Pumpkin, Jason Voorhees" -- Created by Darth Poop

Click the image to see a much larger version. As soon as I saw this, I knew it had to win. From Jason's perfect emulation of the retarded Peanuts Gang dance to the kids laying in bloody heaps on the floor, this is a truly inspired masterpiece that I'd really love to have poster-sized. Darth even nailed the exact stupid Halloween decorations from the cartoon! Congrats, Mr. Poop: You've won five packets of Ghoul-Aid!

Our second grand prize winner really went outside of the box, doing away with the print medium entirely...

GRAND PRIZE WINNER #2:

"Panic At The Disco" -- Created by BUCKLY!

Congratulations to BUCKLY, who choreographed this amazing video featuring Jason dancing to the tune of "Stayin' Alive" along with a special mystery guest. BUCKLY created this with his wife, and while I'd normally consider myself as a rather joyless and jaded slug, I openly admit to cackling like a moron at this. Great work -- you've secured five packets of old Kool-Aid!

And now for the eleven runners-up...or is that runner-ups? In no particular order, here are the best of the rest!

"Jason Takes The Cake" -- Created by squee4242

Oh, squee. If Buckly didn't choreograph a music video, and if Darth Poop hadn't spent so much time with a 24-pack of thin-tipped markers, you soooo would be getting more than a single pack of Ghoul-Aid. I love this to death.

"Jason XXX" -- Created by Amy S.

Inherent wrongness aside, I think what really did it for me here was Freddy's accompanying drink, ash tray and stripper bills.

"Death Dip" -- Created by Elizabeth C.

Easily the classiest of all of entries I received. Ingeniously subtle, I love how Jason dances with his headless victim so naturally.

"Y.M.C.A." -- Created by Dave S.

You really need to see this one full-sized to appreciate it, so click here. Leatherface's hyper-passionate portrayal of the letter "C" made this an easy choice.

"The Watusi" -- Created by Jerrod K.

I'm a sucker for anything incorporating a Batman quote -- and this was always one of my favorites.

"It's Still The Great Pumpkin, Jason Voorhees" -- Created by John T.

Sorry, John. Darth Poop beat ya to it, but this is still super chic and impressive.

"No Fucking Clue" -- Created by tOkKa

I have no idea what I'm looking at, but I felt that it deserved free Ghoul-Aid.

"Dancing With The Stars 13" -- Created by Terror Claws

The bloody arm highlights sold me on this one.

"Tropical Dieland" -- Created by Katherine H.

Jason doing the limbo is probably the most creative interpretation of "Jason dancing" I got, and for that, Katherine now has a chance to drink fifteen-year-old Kool-Aid.

"Death Dip" -- Created by Ricky H.

Breathtaking. I don't have the words.

"Live, On Stage!" -- Created by Guise

Guise provided a hilarious video of himself dancing around in a Jason costume, but I don't want to assume that he wants it spread virally across the Internet. Guise, feel free to YouTube your creation and post the link in the comments. This one was definitely worth more than one pack of Ghoul-Aid, so I may get sneaky and throw an extra in there. Just don't tell all of the other runners-up or runner-ups.

Congrats to the big winners! Honestly, there were a ton of great entries and many more people deserve some free Kool-Aid for their efforts. Now that I look over the entries again, there are a few in particular that really, really deserve free beverages. Once I get this first batch out, I'll see if there's any left. Will be posting more highlights from this very important art competition later in the week, so if you're waiting for your big moment, please, be patient.

Thanks to everyone who entered. There are more spooky contests to come!

Check back tomorrow for WEEK 2 of the Halloween Countdown!

Mine… was hilarious… I think I am going to crawl into my bedroom and curl up in the fetal position for a bit.

I loved, John T.’s drawing. Jason shows great passion for the snoopy dance. I have a silly smile I um, do sometimes and my best friend calls it the Snoopy smile. Because my face is pointing ‘ahem’ upward. Just for laughs I do my impression of the snoopy dance. I will NEVER put that on youtube. Maybe for a packet of ghoulaid that I actually have one already.

and Elizabeth C. is obviously too classy for us! Great job! I mean look at the work of art she made. I feel I should have biscotti’s in my pantry in order to look at her drawing! Because everything starbucks sells is classy lmao I am so trashy… sob…

I never thought about making a video or a photo. I have a generic looking jason esque hockey mask but it’s in storage. And I think it wouldn’t be cool for Jason to have boobs anyway.

Congrats to the winners! Those are all pretty damn cool.

In other news, I almost bought some of those purple Christmas Halloween lights today. The only thing that stopped me was the fact that I really don’t have anything to do with them once I get them.

…I guess the strikethrough tag doesn’t work on here, ahaha. Pretend that the word “Christmas” is crossed out.

Those are all so fucking wonderful! Love em.
Unfortunately my schedule (read: going out for my first legal drinks) did not allow me to enter this contest. There’s always next time… if I’m not out. :)

Aww man, I just checked my e-mail, and it says my e-mail didn’t make it through! Oh well. It was a bad sketch anyway. And it’s not like I wouldv’e won with those drawings as competition.

I’m fixin to start smoking cigars. I think it’s a good habit to have, since I already enjoy drinking brown liquors from highball glasses.

OK, I know this is kinda nerdy and unrelated, but anybody remember “V”? Man that miniseries kicked ass. I LOVE the miniseries and TV shows, and it kinda seemed like it would make good Halloween viewing. Anyway, did a little post about it and the previously unseen TOYS that LJN made but never produced, which I found pics of! Anyhow, click my name for Lizardy awesomeness! Anyone else remember V?

Holy snap, that Peanuts one is a work of art.
Love Snoopy behind the tree.

Oh man, I finally got a chance to get a closer look at the Grand Prize entry by D. Poop and I saw the bloody handprint on the wall.
Disturbingly hilarious.

Good night!

Terror Claws
I know Matt has reviewed V before. Google around.

Chestnuts roasted by Cameron T. @ 09/21/2008 10:23 PM

Terror Claws In this article Matt talks about the V series

Here are some of the episodes

Rev. I despise anybody that smokes cigarettes/cigars but I think it’s hot when a hot femme girl does things guys usually do. Do some guys think that is hot? So I have mixed feelings about you starting to smoke cigars. I guess every once in a while wouldn’t hurt if your hubby doesn’t mind it. Maybe you should just start with the mild ones that are a cross between cigars and cigarettes. I need some nice high ball glasses. I have three A&W glass mugs so I got that goin for me. Just like on the ads.

Congratulations to all the winners! Great stuff!

If there are any more contests coming up, maybe we could have a little more time to enter?

Chestnuts roasted by Flush it all away @ 09/21/2008 10:39 PM

Goob, I am a fox. I assure you that I will smoke only the pimpingest cigars strictly in a big boss manner. I’ve got something planned involving a cigar but I need to make sure I’m not too shy to do it.

The issue with long-running contests is that I could end up with hundreds of entries, and that means fewer winners per contest, as well as fewer contributors highlighted. (After all, who wants to go through the trouble of drawing slasher icons dancing if their art isn’t even going to get spotlighted?)

So, for a long running contest, it would need to be something really imaginative that took a long time to build. I’ll think it over. :)

I think the next contest is going to be just a simple, text-based thing.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 09/21/2008 10:44 PM

OMG! Can I help? Whatever it is I bet it will look graceful and artistic. Like a contemporary dance.

Chestnuts roasted by Goob @ 09/21/2008 10:44 PM

Freakin’ sweet. Thanks for the links all! V is indeed awesome. And I as well look forward to seeing more contests.

Chestnuts roasted by Terror Claws @ 09/21/2008 11:04 PM

This stuff reeks of awesomeness. Please please get rid of the X-mas jukebox though. Tooooo soon, who do you think you are Walmart?

Chestnuts roasted by WolfMan @ 09/21/2008 11:21 PM

Text based? Like Writing? I can DO that!

Chestnuts roasted by Cameron T. @ 09/21/2008 11:28 PM

Great artwork everyone! And that’s a decent avatar, Matt, even if it doesn’t have Jason dancing.

Chestnuts roasted by The Real Andrew @ 09/21/2008 11:32 PM

Man I hate to keep popping in so often, but…is there any kind of hint at this years Christmas storyline? Is the box 23 stuff being updated still? I’m sure all the attention is on the whole H-ween thing, but just checking. It seemed like last years was totally set up by the year prior, so I can’t imagine this years being so planned out already.

Chestnuts roasted by Terror Claws @ 09/21/2008 11:46 PM

Just wanted to drop a quick note to say thanks to those that entered. There were some very cool entries, and I look forward to checking out some others later this week.

On a different note, what has happened to me? This is the sort of thing I would have been all over in my younger days. So yeah, props to all who entered, and for reminding me how much I suck these days. :)

Chestnuts roasted by TF @ 09/22/2008 12:09 AM

I’d vote John T’s as best, pretty awesome. Or tokka’s for an abstractive view. Though there are some good ones and some which looked like they were made by grade-schoolers.

Chestnuts roasted by Tragid E @ 09/22/2008 12:13 AM

WolfMan It’s there year round. I like that it’s there just in case I want to listen to it. I don’t at this moment but it’s a nice feeling that it’s available.

Chestnuts roasted by Goob @ 09/22/2008 12:15 AM

Wow, so many cool entries. Congratulations, everybody!

Chestnuts roasted by Kapprika @ 09/22/2008 12:40 AM

Wow, I’m honored to be a runner-up among such great entries…especially squee’s cake. I’ve recently developed a fondness for neato cakes…
