09/21/2008: Halloween Countdown ‘08: Dancing Jason Contest Results!

This has nothing to do with Halloween, but I had to mention it since the DVD is finally out. If you’re at all into Avatar: The Last Airbender, please check out the Book 3 DVD box set. I wrote/produced/directed the 20-minute “Women of Avatar” special feature on the bonus disc, and I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. Avatar is/was such a great show, and I feel so lucky to have been able to work on so many of its corresponding TV spots. Getting to do a special feature really took the cake, and this was an absolute blast for us to put together.

Thanks to all who stuck around for last night’s horror movie marathon. I totally conked out during Trilogy of Terror 2, but I guess that was to be expected after mixing a poorly made martini with half a bottle of red wine. Expect more of the same on all Saturday nights from now through Halloween, so if you find yourself lifeless on any upcoming weekends, come on over!

AND NOW, it’s time to name the BIG WINNERS in the “Draw Jason Voorhees Dancing” Art Contest!

Choosing the winners was TOUGH. Really tough. I’m a little hesitant to even name the champs, because over 75 entries came in and almost all of them were the fruits of serious labor. Please don’t feel bad if you weren’t christened a grand champion for this one. There could only be so many winners. I’ll show off more of the entries later this week, but for now, let’s focus on those that were exquisite enough to be rewarded with free Ghoul-Aid.

After seeing the wealth of tremendous entries, I decided to increase the prize opportunities: We now have two grand prize winners and eleven runners-up. If I had more Ghoul-Aid, there’d be even more.

Without further ado, your two grand prize winners are….

GRAND PRIZE WINNER #1:

“It’s The Great Pumpkin, Jason Voorhees” — Created by Darth Poop

Click the image to see a much larger version. As soon as I saw this, I knew it had to win. From Jason’s perfect emulation of the retarded Peanuts Gang dance to the kids laying in bloody heaps on the floor, this is a truly inspired masterpiece that I’d really love to have poster-sized. Darth even nailed the exact stupid Halloween decorations from the cartoon! Congrats, Mr. Poop: You’ve won five packets of Ghoul-Aid!

Our second grand prize winner really went outside of the box, doing away with the print medium entirely…

GRAND PRIZE WINNER #2:

“Panic At The Disco” — Created by BUCKLY!

Congratulations to BUCKLY, who choreographed this amazing video featuring Jason dancing to the tune of “Stayin’ Alive” along with a special mystery guest. BUCKLY created this with his wife, and while I’d normally consider myself as a rather joyless and jaded slug, I openly admit to cackling like a moron at this. Great work — you’ve secured five packets of old Kool-Aid!

And now for the eleven runners-up…or is that runner-ups? In no particular order, here are the best of the rest!

“Jason Takes The Cake” — Created by squee4242

Oh, squee. If Buckly didn’t choreograph a music video, and if Darth Poop hadn’t spent so much time with a 24-pack of thin-tipped markers, you soooo would be getting more than a single pack of Ghoul-Aid. I love this to death.

“Jason XXX” — Created by Amy S.

Inherent wrongness aside, I think what really did it for me here was Freddy’s accompanying drink, ash tray and stripper bills.

“Death Dip” — Created by Elizabeth C.

Easily the classiest of all of entries I received. Ingeniously subtle, I love how Jason dances with his headless victim so naturally.

“Y.M.C.A.” — Created by Dave S.

You really need to see this one full-sized to appreciate it, so click here. Leatherface’s hyper-passionate portrayal of the letter “C” made this an easy choice.

“The Watusi” — Created by Jerrod K.

I’m a sucker for anything incorporating a Batman quote — and this was always one of my favorites.

“It’s Still The Great Pumpkin, Jason Voorhees” — Created by John T.

Sorry, John. Darth Poop beat ya to it, but this is still super chic and impressive.

“No Fucking Clue” — Created by tOkKa

I have no idea what I’m looking at, but I felt that it deserved free Ghoul-Aid.

“Dancing With The Stars 13″ — Created by Terror Claws

The bloody arm highlights sold me on this one.

“Tropical Dieland” — Created by Katherine H.

Jason doing the limbo is probably the most creative interpretation of “Jason dancing” I got, and for that, Katherine now has a chance to drink fifteen-year-old Kool-Aid.

“Death Dip” — Created by Ricky H.

Breathtaking. I don’t have the words.

“Live, On Stage!” — Created by Guise

Guise provided a hilarious video of himself dancing around in a Jason costume, but I don’t want to assume that he wants it spread virally across the Internet. Guise, feel free to YouTube your creation and post the link in the comments. This one was definitely worth more than one pack of Ghoul-Aid, so I may get sneaky and throw an extra in there. Just don’t tell all of the other runners-up or runner-ups.

Congrats to the big winners! Honestly, there were a ton of great entries and many more people deserve some free Kool-Aid for their efforts. Now that I look over the entries again, there are a few in particular that really, really deserve free beverages. Once I get this first batch out, I’ll see if there’s any left. Will be posting more highlights from this very important art competition later in the week, so if you’re waiting for your big moment, please, be patient.

Thanks to everyone who entered. There are more spooky contests to come!

Check back tomorrow for WEEK 2 of the Halloween Countdown!

75 entries – most excellent!

Congratulations to all the winners, I wish I had a modicum of artistic ability, or a computer that would let me hook a webcam in and edit videos.

People were really creative this year. I’m looking forward to more contests. That, and I haven’t posted this high on a thread in a long time.

“almost all of them were good”

I get the feeling mine is in that select few that isn’t very good. :D

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Jason Vorhees! Wonderful…Wonderful…Wonderful!

Ghosted by Hallorandy @ 09/21/2008 3:52 PM EDT

Congratulations people! Your hard work and talent have finally paid off. Drink your Ghoul-Aid with pride, knowing that you have made Halloween a little more awesome this year.

Wow! I placed in a contest! That never happens! Although, justifiably, I was bested by cake and hand drawn efforts. Combining Peanuts and Jason? Sheer brilliance! What a fun contest. I think I have more fun with these unemployed – fills the time better. Thanks Matt!

Ghosted by Terror Claws @ 09/21/2008 3:57 PM EDT

That really is a great drawing, Darth Poop. We got some creative people here.

Ghosted by JLAJRC @ 09/21/2008 4:01 PM EDT

Those were so awesome! Good job guys! Squee, that did take the cake.

Ghosted by Bill @ 09/21/2008 4:02 PM EDT

Sorry for the double post but for those who have direct tv the Chiller channel has F13 1 and 2 on.

Ghosted by Bill @ 09/21/2008 4:06 PM EDT

I totally read that this contest somehow lasted until next Sunday. Oh well, congrats to winners, hopefully there will be more Halloween contests. :)

BTW, awesome site, Matt. I’ve been reading the blog since about the beginning of this year. I love this Halloween redesign.

Ghosted by FOAME @ 09/21/2008 4:12 PM EDT

Whoa, some of those are very good. I can’t wait to see mine up there! It’s not exactly awesome, but it’s the best you could expect from someone who is’nt that skilled with MS Paint! =)

Ghosted by ULTRAMAN @ 09/21/2008 4:24 PM EDT

I honestly have no idea where I came up with the limbo theme. I only had five minutes untill the deadline to post it from my gf’s laptop so she got credit. But the ghoul-aid is MINE! Now onto the green bamboo mystery peanut…

Ghosted by 9Line @ 09/21/2008 4:25 PM EDT

There was one in particular that I somehow skipped that it at least on par with the two GPWinners, so I will definitely post more this week. :)

Ghosted by Matt @ 09/21/2008 4:27 PM EDT

I wish there more of these contests (hint, hint).

Ghosted by blueblur666 @ 09/21/2008 4:31 PM EDT

Squee, from the musical of Jason Takes Manhattan where he does “New York, New York”? Deep love, deep cakey love!

Oh, and…compression ratio makes my butt look big. That, and my big butt.

Ghosted by Guise @ 09/21/2008 4:34 PM EDT

Guise, I think we have the same wireless router.

Ghosted by dohopoki @ 09/21/2008 4:39 PM EDT

Hm, twins seperated at birth perhaps? If you get a decent connection then it proves good twin/evil twin!

Ghosted by Guise @ 09/21/2008 4:40 PM EDT

i for one MUST see the rest of Guise’s vid. Great entries!! Can’t wait to see more!!!

FM

Ghosted by Fungusmungus @ 09/21/2008 4:43 PM EDT

FM…it scars the mind, I assure you. It’s more like Jason on an Elvis diet doing the truffle shuffle…

Ghosted by Guise @ 09/21/2008 4:46 PM EDT

Guise
I’d like to see that…

Ghosted by Cameron T. @ 09/21/2008 4:48 PM EDT

I guess my Pulp Fiction “Batusi” and Dirty Dancing “Nobody puts Jason in the Corner” pictures didn’t make the cut. I did what I could with what I had!

Ghosted by whitemale_98 @ 09/21/2008 4:50 PM EDT

…well, look upwards just a little and don’t say you weren’t warned.

“Your suffering will be legendary, even in hell.”

Guisey, inspired as always. Thanks for sharing.

Ghosted by Fungusmungus @ 09/21/2008 5:05 PM EDT

Guise, you are hilarious! And I love the cat in Buckly’s video. And yay to me too! Thanks Matt!

Ghosted by Amy @ 09/21/2008 5:10 PM EDT

OUTSTANDING WORK!! Conrats to the winners!
Poop, I am impressed.
Looking forward to seeing the rest.

Ghosted by The Manimal @ 09/21/2008 5:13 PM EDT

Congrats to everyone who won and a big huzzah for those who entered, ya’all made this Halloween season a bit more groovy!

And thanks for the honor of the grand prize Matt! I was shocked to see that I had won! So shocked that I didn’t even notice that I had soiled myself with delight until it was too late. On a related note, I met Kane Hodder, the dude who played Jason from Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood to Jason X. I asked him if it was he who was under the mask in Jason’s appearance on the Arsenio Hall show. He said it was indeed him and asked how I even knew about said interview. This is the moment when I told Jason Voorhees of the wonders on x-entertainment. This was less than a month ago and I wonder, is this all a coincidence or a government conspiracy? You be the judge.

And thanks for the compliments too! :)

Ghosted by Darth Poop @ 09/21/2008 5:22 PM EDT

I think all this adds to “things we all must see inspired from X-E before we die”:
1) James Lipton doing a bear impression or being recorded answering the question about the fuel efficiency of his arm flame-throwers
2) Kane Hodder in Jason garb doing the Snoopy dance

Ghosted by Guise @ 09/21/2008 5:29 PM EDT

Here’s to good friends,
Tonight is kind of special,
Watchin’ “The Craft”
Crappin’ in our pants with fear…

Let it be Lowenbrau

Those are great! Way more creative than I could have been. Congrats to the winners.

Ghosted by gingela5 @ 09/21/2008 6:20 PM EDT

Damn. This group rules. What great pictures. Buckly your vid was awesome.

Too bad I can’t draw worth a darn. Jason as a stick figure just didn’t work, so I wisely chose not to submit it. :-)

Ghosted by Spike_I_Eat_the_Brains_of_the_Living_85 @ 09/21/2008 6:25 PM EDT

No more watching HellfireComms on Saturdays. I’m staying here! I missed out on a contest, a horror movie, AND SNT!!!! I’m going on a killing spree. But WOW! A lot of great artwork up there. I woulda lost, anyway. But next Saturday, movie madness, hells yeah! Halloween is gonna ROCK!

Ghosted by Aaron @ 09/21/2008 6:35 PM EDT

Oh, I woulda been asleep for Trillogy of Terror II anyway… darn.

Ghosted by Aaron @ 09/21/2008 6:37 PM EDT

ToKKa! Didn’t know you came here too! XD Congrats on your Ghoul-Aid!

Ghosted by dorkfish @ 09/21/2008 6:40 PM EDT

Funny, I got in the mood to see Friday the 13th after coming here and the first and second one just happened to be on TV. Sure, its edited and I have them on DVD, but somehow I ended up watching the TV one instead. I guess its like hearing a song you like on the radio. Theres just something more enjoyable for me about seeing it unexpectedly.

Ghosted by Jack @ 09/21/2008 6:43 PM EDT

Holy crap,Kane Hodder knows about X-E? He may be reading right now!

Ghosted by Kid Nicky @ 09/21/2008 6:44 PM EDT

Congrats all! You definitely made this a GREAT kickoff weekend.

Ghosted by Pepe @ 09/21/2008 6:49 PM EDT

When Mike Myers arrives in Buckly’s video I literally LOL’d. Awesome!

Ghosted by Nizz @ 09/21/2008 6:54 PM EDT

oh, and congratulations Matt on your Avatar feature! i vaguely know what that is because my husband’s niece is into it. if i tell her i know the guy who made one of the special features, maybe she will like me.

Ghosted by Amy @ 09/21/2008 7:05 PM EDT

Hey Matt, I guess I should probably email you my address…

Ghosted by Ricky @ 09/21/2008 7:21 PM EDT

I couldn’t stop laughing at BUCKLY’s vid! Awesomeness all around to everyone. The women of Avatar thing rocks my socks! Loved it Matt! I am a fan and addict of the show, so knowing someone responsible for my fave website is responsible for stuff of my fave show.. rocks like no other!

Ghosted by Ari @ 09/21/2008 7:23 PM EDT

Oh these are pure awesomeness! This is why I love XE! Congrats to all! I love the girl with her head through the tv, Poop. XE contests should be an annual event, they’re the only time I end up making art outside of work. And it fun to see people are just as twisted as I am :-D I may not have won, but dammit I may put mine in my portfolio, simply b/c I want to explain it to potential employers: “yes, and this piece is Jason Vorheeses doing interpretive dance…”

Ghosted by Ann @ 09/21/2008 7:51 PM EDT

hi…guise your youtube clip is broken. I feel a smidgey bit better than this afternoon. >_>

*gasps* I just looked at this bag of pizza craver dorito’s and they have MSG! eek! That is a no no for me sometimes…I have random reactions, from itchies to tounge swellies.

Ghosted by mandy_Tara Reids Franken-Nipple_Reeves @ 09/21/2008 7:52 PM EDT

As a fellow baker and cake-lover, I must applaud Squee’s gruefully tasty creation. (I hope it was as yummy as it was cool!) I also liked the two “Dancing With the Stars” references (I’m a sucker for spangles).

Ghosted by starwenn @ 09/21/2008 8:20 PM EDT

Yeah, nothing I would’ve done would be nowhere near as great as these were.

Darth Poop so deserved that win. I like the well-drawn Snoopy in the background.

Ghosted by Invader Norbert @ 09/21/2008 8:30 PM EDT

Congrats all around for some great entries. I am honored to be a Grand Prize Winner. I have every intention of drinking that Ghoul-Aid too. There were quite a few other gems and I can’t wait to see some more in the coming days.

Ghosted by BUCKLY! @ 09/21/2008 8:43 PM EDT

Aww thanks all, this is great! I as well will partake of Ghoul-Aid on October 31st! Wooohooo!
