I think if I could do it over again, I’d have a vintage-themed wedding. I think the post-war wedding photos of the 40’s and 50’s are always so simplistically beautiful. We didn’t have a lot of money either. We married young and went straight from our parents’ houses to our own, which meant there was a lot to buy and not a lot of money left over for a wedding. I always dreamed of the big wedding, but in the end I was too practical to sacrifice long-term comfort for one big day. Some people think you have to have lots of money for a beautiful wedding, and that’s so not true. For me, the church wedding with all our family and friends was important, but I did it in the morning (no alcohol – $$$), used alternatives to flowers everywhere but the bouquets and boutonnieres (few fresh flowers – $$$), and had a cake and punch reception in the church reception hall(no food or rental fee – $$$). It was simple and low budget, but it got us married, and six years later, we’re more in love than ever. Obviously my plan isn’t for people who are most excited about the party, but there are always corners that can be cut. If you don’t believe me, watch My Big Redneck Wedding. Those people can party.

Annette: I too had a civil wedding at the courthouse. Of course, I’m divorced now…so, it ended being good that we didn’t spend money on a big wedding!
Kittymao: The Halloween themed surprise wedding idea is awesome! You definitely have to blog it if you go through with it!
Amy I also got married in a black dress. I think I just wanted to rebel against the whole ‘white wedding’ idea.
Maybe there’s some truth to the old poem, “Married in black, you’ll wish yourself back…”
Congrats to all the lovers and fighters out there. I swear I don’t begrudge you your happy romantic prospects, at least not until Christmas gets closer. As for me, I had a date last week with a dude who didn’t know who 50 Cent is. Not just indifferent, but completely unaware! He’d never heard of Deadwood or Angela’s Ashes either. 3 strikes.
Rev, you around? I caught a Bob joke on an MST3K rerun last night and was reminded of you and your Big Boss status.
nosna: I feel like I already own a Peanuts holiday collection on DVD, but I could be wrong. I wonder what’s different about this one? It’s definitely worth it for those who don’t already own all of the titles singularly, esp since it includes the underrated Thanksgiving special — genesis of one of my favorite X-E articles.
Matt: Yeah, I tought I have seen a dvd with all these included, but i know I do not own one. Nothing will ever be able to replace the VHS copies I have of these, but It is just pack with too much holiday fun for me to pass us. Totally agree with you about the Thanksgiving special too.
HELP!!! I need to think of some more events/games to have at my Halloween party. So far I have:
Horror Movie Trivia
Pick you poison Drinking game (can be explained)
Beer Can Wizard Staff (alsp can be explained)
Skull Bowling
Costume Contest
I need some more activites….any suggestions…

Matt – I love the top of the notebook. It looks like a very promising start to the Halloween Countdown – Blog Style!
This Peanuts Holiday collection is the “New Deluxe Editions”.
Annette – Congratulationson your marriage!!

Squee – Which MST3K??? I have so many of them on dvd, and I’ve seen so many others, but the jokes come so subtle sometimes that I might not even catch a joke about my beloved “Bob”!
I’m such a brainwashed cultie that I can love a thing I already love, even more if it gets a shot o’ Dobbs.
Currently implementing the Halloween design. Will be a few hours before everything’s exactly where it should be. In the meantime, note the returning HALLOWEEN JUKEBOX, tweaked by our pal Tummi with more spooky songs than ever.
Soooooooooooo excited! I do love the new theme and will be settling in with some sort of cozy beverage soon to enjoy the rainy day and the HALLOWEEN JUKEBOX!!!
Well, ’tis the season to carve the old punkins, and string up the webs, open the coffins, and otherwise get all spooky. Which means it’s also time to plug somebody else’s site, the traditional pimping of: http://www.ravensblight.com , for all your papercraft monster needs, or at least printable board games involving zombies, vampires, and graveyards.
Now if suggestions for SNMovieT are open, I happen to have MST3K: The Essentials, which includes MANOS: THE HANDS OF FATE. Just throwing that on the pile for your consideration.

Oooooo new Halloween banner! I’ve come to love the X-E Halloween countdown. It is my September/October lunchtime escape.
If anybody, ANYBODY sees Pitch Black slurpee, soda or anything, please, please, PLEASE let me know.
I caught myself reminiscing about that damn soda the other day. -sigh- I miss it so…
It is amazing how the Halloween jukebox and former countdowns totally takes my productivity level to a new low. Thank christ my exam was yesterday…

i’m all for the Sierra Mist Cranberry Splash love and everything.. but come on, somebody has to spread that very love and give some to Pomegranate 7 Up.. – i know its lesser known and never got the proper hype behind it like its berry brothern.. but this just was bottled heaven.. – not sure if it’s coming back this holiday season or not.. but it ranks right up there with Pepsi Holiday Spice as the king of the holiday-inspired sodas..
Matt, I knew it was about time to check up on the blog again. WOO FOR HALLOWEEN! I just started working at my local Target full-time and the pull of Halloween goodies is too much to bear…money is tight so I’ll just have to live vicariously through you and your rampant spending. I need to drag the tub o’ decorations out of storage…I’m usually super late with those types of things because I’ve always been so busy, but my new job’s hours have me out at 2:45 with weekends off so I actually feel like I have more time to do things. Thanks in advance, Matt, for the holiday goodness…you’re always there when times are tough and my holiday spirits need a pick-me-up. Much love.
nosna: a party idea that struck me as I read your list was Toliet Paper Mummies…I did this at a birthday party when I was little but I think it would be just as fun now as an adult. You pair everyone off and give them a roll of toliet paper, and one person has to wrap up the other in toliet paper and create the best-looking mummy within a certain time limit. They get judged somehow (you could have an impartial judge, or you could have everyone vote on the best) and the best mummy wins. I think we used colored toliet paper for my birthday party way back when, which was so totally late 80s/early 90s.

On another note, I can’t get the Halloween Juke to play for me…it tells me a Flash upgrade is required, but when I go to update it, it still says it’s required. Anyone else having this problem?

Hey! I’m a longtime lurker, been reading since that one article where Matt and friends went to a beach house and played NES games. I think that was the gist of that article.
Anywho, I’ve been following everything, posting maybe two or three times in the last 5 or 6 + years…
So I already know you all, though myou don’t know me.
I’ve been here since middle school…in College now, and I figured that I may as well be a part of the community no?
I’m about to start listening to the jukebox…ah…what a perfect season. Too bad I’m 200 miles from home ;-;

It’s nice to see the new snazzy layout after coming home from a 12-hour workday. That’ll always put a hop in your step.

Welcome Stag, I also had been here a long time before ever posting. Now I will shout out once in a while. Believe me when I say that X-E and college go together like peas and carrots. Can’t tell you how many times my dorm mates and I would find ourselves discussing articles. And Halloween is the BEST time to start posting!

Nicole i’m havin that problem too. I downloaded the upgrade, AND rebooted, but it STILL won’t work for me!

Sweet new theme. Anyone else excited Halloween falls on a Friday this year? Great night to go get some scary movies and stay up late or party. Depending on what your thing is.
ULTRAMAN, Nicole, (and Matt), I’m having that Flash problem too. Not sure what’s up with that. Sucks, cause I really wanna hear me some Halloween Jukebox.
Review the World, I totally missed out on Pomegranate 7-Up last year. I looked everywhere but never found it. I hope it makes its way around these parts this year. I’m really curious about this, mostly because I have no idea what pomegranate tastes like.
Just got back from Wal-Mart and Target. Target’s got a rockin’ Halloween section this year, but I gotta say, Wal-Mart’s was a little sad. Just one sad little isle. The other thing that kinda bummed me out was seeing freaking CHRISTMAS STUFF already set up behind the Halloween stuff at Target. Just sitting there. Waiting. Peeking over the corner, trying to creep it’s little way on up…
Don’t get me wrong. I love Christmas…in its own due time. But for right now…
Matt, my hero! *swoon* Seriously, you rule. YAY JUKEBOX OMG!
Yes, Target already has some Christmas stuff set out, and we JUST start putting up Halloween stuff last week…it gives me the willies. I love Christmas, but can I has Halloween first please?!
Ghosted by Nicole @ 09/16/2008 9:08 PM EDT
I haven’t checked out Target yet. Need to go soon! I already have tons of stuff, but can always use more!
