You are all doomed. Why not surrender? We might let you live.

08/02/2008: X-E’s ‘08 Summer Megaparty: Random SNT.

Ahhh…finally caught up on sleep. I probably need six more hours before I can function at a normal level again, but things have improved. I’m no longer taking inclement weather as a personal offense, for example.

I have a sneaking suspicion that there aren’t a great many of you around tonight, but if you are, here’s your SNT.

I need a background movie. And ambient noise. And an indoor fountain with some of that cool, dim neon lighting. I just want to hear some stuff.

For those of you having trouble sleeping; try one of the CDs from Pure White Noise (click on my name to go to their site). I haev a couple of their discs and they work really well helping me drift off to sleep. Just have a CD player by your bed, and set the CD to repeat.

Is that a spin off of Pure Moods?

Ghosted by dohopoki @ 08/03/2008 2:22 AM EDT

So far this weekend, I have watched the Cube, Gremlins and Remo Williams does it get much better than that? Season finale of Dr. Who was in there somewhere too. Tomorrow (today) I intend to try and get in Transformers (haven’t decided on live action or cartoon movie) Galaxy quest and Herbie goes Bananas, and the two new episodes of Naruto.

To hell with the nice weather and mowing the lawn.

Over the years I’ve gone to sleep to Brazil (Terry Gilliam), Spirited Away (Miyazaki), Bladerunner (Ridley Scott)and Wolf’s Reign. Newly added to my list of sleepy time movies is Stardust, cuz my gf cracks up at Robert DeNiro doing the cha-cha with some kind of gown and make-up. *watching Stardust in the bedroom, and Shin Chan in the living room

Wait.

You CHOOSE to subject yourself to Herbie Goes Bananas?

Ghosted by Cameron T. @ 08/03/2008 2:26 AM EDT

I’ve got “Soap: The Complete Series” on DVD going in the background. My mom is watching, I’m going in and out. We just finished Season 1…it makes for a decent background, much like the marathon did when it was on Comedy Central.

Matt, I have to second the people who said that the “Nightmare on Elm Street” record is good background.

I should have gotten two bottles of wine. This stuff is pretty awesome.

Ghosted by squee4242 @ 08/03/2008 2:36 AM EDT

Hell yeah, Who the hell wouldn’t?!? I’m a fan of all the Herbie movies…Not so much the newest one because I refuse to believe a family that into racing never ever hearing about Herbie. As unique a race car that he was it would be like a baseball fanatic saying they never heard of the Cubs.

Go, Herbie Go. Kick speed racer’s ass for me.

What’s baseball?

Anyone else go to see Midnight Meat Train today?

Lionsgate dumped all over it by not only not giving it the wide release it was promised but also opening it in discount/value cinemas. While I didn’t mind paying $2.75 for a new release, you know that the movie will never do enough money in limited budget release to warrant a sequel.

I liked the movie… lots of gore although there were a couple of moments where CG gore was present and looked pretty dumb. I am a firm believer that studios are far too dependent on CG these days and many times it makes movies look bad and unrealistic. I’m pretty sure the CG “eye scene” in the movie would have looked better had Tom Savini set it up old school.

A good background movie for me is one called “Suicide Kings”. But after thinking ofhow good of a movie it is, I guess the first viewing shouldn’t be background movie-ish, but for enjoyment. IFC(a comcast channel) plays the living shit out of it, and it has characters many recognize(not excluding Brad Garret).

I’ve realized I’ve used to many (parenthesis) so I’ll stop. IN short, I have offered no plausible advice at all for you, and have hence failed you, but watching aforementioned movie will make up for it.(ok, im done)

…Dude, I just unearthed a tape from my family’s archive that consists of an two hour block of late eighties/early nineties MTV, complete with commercials!

Ghosted by Mike83 @ 08/03/2008 2:57 AM EDT

It definitely seemed like a night to pop in a movie and veg out. I chose The Mist and was promptly knocked on my ass. I’d heard it was pretty good, but damn.

Ghosted by BMovieGeek @ 08/03/2008 3:37 AM EDT

Pursuant to Rp and BMovieGeek’s posts, I saw this amazing movie at Comic-Con that I think some of you guys are going to dig, The Mutant Chronicles. It stars Tom Jane and Ron Perlman and it’s about mutant zombies taking over the planet. There’s CGI for certain things, but they also used a lot of matte paintings and miniatures so it’s got a really cool look. It’s definitely a love it or hate it movie but I got a kick out of it.

This post just reminded me of the awesome score I had at the thrift store the other day. I stop at any thrift store I see and immediately peruse their VHS selections, and the other day I got:

1 tape containing Remo Williams, Fletch Lives, and Batteries Not Included

2 tapes completely filled with Episodes of Beavis and Butthead and MTv’s “the Head”

1 tape containing Commando and Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo

P.S.
The Soap marathon kicked my ass when I was a kid. Same with the MST3K Turkey Day marathons.
Latchkey FTW!

Discovery here in the UK have demoted our Shark Week down to a Shark Weekend :(
Better make the most of it then i guess.

“Live every week like its Shark Week!”

Oh yeah something that worked as background movies for me was Gingerdead Man and also Puppet Master vs Demonic Toys. Even though i actually fell asleep trying to watch Gingerdead Man. So maybe it will help you with your sleep too Matt..

Ghosted by Etno @ 08/03/2008 5:25 AM EDT

I know this doesn’t sound bust-em-up exciting, but I have a really good background video for sleeping. Ken Burns “The Civil War”. Incredibly interesting enough for history buffs, and the narrator’s voice and some of that old time civil war music can really sometimes lull you into sleepyland…! (Not a comment on the show, don’t get me wrong a really great series; but I can’t watch it tired and stay awake)

wenthral:

Hah, I’m a VW nut so I’m a Herbie fan by definition..I just can’t see anyone getting through bananas without being one!

I once had the opportunity to see that with 50 other New Beetle owners at a drive-in theatre in Carlsbad, New Mexico. It was awesome. People honking their horns, cheering, etc. Just great. That same year we got to meet Dean Jones. He was a pretty great guy to agree to come all the way out into the desert for a little New Beetle car show….

The following year was the premiere of Herbie Fully Loaded, and we got to see it at the Drive In, one day before it was released in Theatres.

If only that cast list included Kurt Russel; it would be the best movie EVER.

Finished the first disc of Kenneth Branagh’s Hamlet last night. Damn, talk about amazing. Though I keep having to pause and ask my man what’s going on every once in a while. It’s hard to read/listen to florid dialogue, watch the actors, and try to keep up with the plot at the same time when I haven’t read the play before. XD

Before that, I went to my friend’s house and drank tea and talked for a couple of hours.

So that was my Saturday night.

Speaking of sleep, um…one week out of every month, I have trouble sleeping, among other things. I slept like shit last night and I’m hoping to make up for it later this afternoon.

Ghosted by Annette @ 08/03/2008 11:25 AM EDT

Nightmare On Elm Street 3 makes for really good background noise. I’m not sure why…

Ghosted by Bill @ 08/03/2008 1:27 PM EDT

You know what, the NOES films do make for good background noise. I always resort to slapping one of them in late at night when I’m bored, usually part 1, 3, or 4 for nostalgia. I’m a sucker for the scene where the dog pisses fire and all the bones/organs come together.

On that note, I’ll push for the X-E Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas blowout. Can’t wait.

Ghosted by Matt(#2) @ 08/03/2008 1:38 PM EDT

JLAJRC, watch Jackie Brown, Mallrats, The Ladykillers, or Idiocracy…you’ll feel better.

Lori, I put The Simpsons DVDs on to help me sleep, too! I usually play ‘em with the commentary running, though.

I want to ask a survey question: Do any of you have a band/singer that you love that hardly anyone has ever heard of? I’ve been listening to Bill Mallonee/Vigilantes of Love lately, so it got me thinking…

Ghosted by Teddy Ray @ 08/03/2008 1:47 PM EDT

The droning noise from a fan ALWAYS knocks me into a deep state of slumber. It also helps when I drink too much caffeine earlier in the day so when the crash hits me its lights out for phunqsauce.

Ghosted by phunqsauce @ 08/03/2008 1:47 PM EDT

doho your comment about puremoods reminded me that the old commercial that they played for it used to scare the shit out of me. i would be up at night, watching beavis and butthead, laughing at the yaffa blocks commercial, and all of a sudden a group of hooded figures chanting and singing ambient music would come on, and i would get so freaked out. im not even sure why. and teddy ray I don’t know if this band counts because im not sure how many people listen to them, but i absolutely adore she wants revenge. they make me want to dance and kill someone at the same time. rage dancing? i dont know

Leigha, I’ve been trying to find the commercial for pure moods one for sometime because there’s a very specific moment that always creeped me out really bad and I could never say exactly why.

Oh hey, Ghostbusters is on Spike. I’ve seen this movie like 15 times but it’s still fun to watch it whenever it comes on.

I live in Miami. The air conditioner broke (I have central air conditioning) today and the repairman was unable to fix it. He has to call tomorrow to get spare parts.

As a result, I’ve had the fan on full blast today but it STILL doesn’t help! I’ve never fully appreciated central air conditioning until today. I WANT IT BACK! I WANT IT BACK! I. WANT. IT. BACK!!!

Just saw The Dark Knight(finally I know), It did not disappoint, although the lady behind me was talking/texting through the first half.
I gave her one hell of a stern look, thats right, I’m a badass.

My name is Matt, can’t you see
And I write mad shit for my site, X-E

People out there just don’t know
Cause my domain name sounds like a porno

I’ve eaten Nads and made an apple shrink
I was a fan of wrestling before it didn’t stink

Now all these homies are postin’ on my blog
I got a ton of cats, but I ain’t down with no dog

So if you feel what I’m sayin’, then hear me out
The Saturday Night Thread is what it’s all about

I got mad skills even though I’m white
Cause my writing and my rapping is hella tight

If there’s one thing I love, it’s Friday one-three
Cause if you know Jason, then you’re down with me

So pardon me while I spin another tale
X-E.com, just chillin’ and keepin’ it real!

BOYYEEEEEE!

I used to crack up at the 2 songs by Enigma on the Pure Moods commercial. One was some native American geezer chanting and the other was some French chick chanting. Also, wasn’t the Twin Peaks theme on there? good stuff.

Word, yo. Nice freestylin, homes. Remember in the 80’s when rap was everywhere, even in cereal commercials? Seems like rap has lost its innocence. Now it’s all about bustin caps and slappin hoes. It is a genre of music that just won’t die. Kind of like Country & Western.
