Ugh, there is something in the damn air tonight. Let's make this an all-night happy party thread. Frig this, I'm getting the Summer Jukebox ready. Only Bobby Rydell can save us now.
Meh…I don’t have school til 11 am tommorow. Then I got the night class tommorow night. I may just play hooky on the day class. I dunno….we shall see. So…homestead rebates be coming soon! woo! possibly I can get something nice. i’m a-think’n an Ipod touch, possibly, or saving towards my ps3.
I’m gonna go to Wildwood like in September.
As for the MST3K DvD’s…I would love to find those, because me and my husband love to sit and rip on the old PSA’s. On Demand has a channel called Something weird, and they call em School Scare Flicks.
Speaking of Halloween, I want to find my husband a sleestak mask…and a brown furry teddy bear/furry creature type costume for dottie jean so she can be chaka!!
Matt did you ever do an article on Madame? That old lady puppet? I used to love her show when I was little.

Can’t wait for the jukebox: I’m fighting for summer! We didn’t get to do our annual fireworks shoot-off on the 4th, but we’re doing it late because it’s still summer, damn it!
Fireworks, Super Soakers and a Valient Thorr show have my mind way off of school…that and it’s over a hundred friggin’ degrees here. That helps with the whole summer aura.

Apropos of nothing, can I suggest an idea for our next movie night? Being that it’s Shark Week and all, I really feel like watching Deep Blue Sea and know that there’s so much that everybody could say about super intelligent sharks hunting down LL Cool J and his parrot. It’s not playing on TV anytime soon and I didn’t find it on YouTube, but I’m sure there’s a way around that. Just throwing the idea out there.

Hey Matt do you have google talk? Maybe we can shoot the breeze sometime. =)

In addition to those PSA parodies, Weird Al’s Live dvd includes some of his “educational” films based off of those old filmstrips. Those are hilarious if anyone has a chance to see them.

Squee I’d be down for that. Say what you will about Deep Blue Sea I like it. It’s like a giant Jaws tribute movie! The license plate they grab from the shark in the beginning is the same as the license plate in the sharks stomach in the first Jaws. And all three sharks die in the same way as they do in the first 3 Jaws movies!

Watch the Tramcar please.
Matt, please buy the model tramcar they have for sale, it would probably make my lifetime.

COMPLETELY off topic, but for some reason this thread made me want to put on the remastered Fleetwood Mac “Rumours” album. Anyone else like the Mac? I was recently obsessed with them….enough to actually buy a LaserDisc player online to play a 1980 documentary that I bought on eBay BEFORE I even had the player….to be fair, to date it hasn’t ever been released on DVD.
Summer usually does strange things to me, but this is actually something I don’t regret!

Matt & crew…
Digging through some old VHS tapes not too long ago. When we first got our VCR, my sister was 14, and for fun she would just throw tapes in and record MTV. Kind of pissed me off cuz blank tapes were expensive in 1984-86 (something like $6.50 each!) So a few weeks ago,I had some rare free time when I locked the kids in the shed. I popped in a tape, and it was Mark Goodman! And I don’t remember what the featured band or event was, but I would swear Mark Goodman was stoned! I watched it again a few hours later to make sure I wasn’t imagining it, and although he didn’t appear to be drooling, something was up. This was already a few years after MTV started, so I wonder if he knew his time was up and he just didn’t care anymore that they would be ditching the famous “Vee-Jays”. (Although we can laugh about it, he probably made more money than me selling those Time-Warner CD collections)
Also, another great “show” from that era was USA Network’s “Night Flight”. Anyone remember that? On Friday night around 9 or 10, they would start all the cool shows, and cult movies, and play them over and over until 6AM the next morning. Then the would do it again 10PM on Saturday night. There was a rock show called “New Wave Theatre”, and the host was this ambiguously gay guy (not that there’s anything wrong with that). And he would host a live show with the most outrageous (and cool) punk bands. And his catch phrase was “Don’t Be A Gurken”. They would also show old cheesy documentaries, like the 1950′s “Duck and Cover” PSA’s. Saw the Clash movie “Rude Boy”, and also “Reefer Madness”. Shows like that. In the summer when school was out, we would stay up all night Friday and Saturday and watch “Night Flight” on USA network. And I do think I still have some footage of that on ancient VHS as well!
(PS: That part about locking my kids in the shed was a joke. No phone calls please!)

Meanwhile, listening to the Christmas Jukebox.
Im not fan of heat, but Im also not a fan of freezing my balls off constantly…so the summer can stay here for a bit longer.

give me fall anytime, I love 50-60 degree weather during the day and 20 below at night so I can sleep under 6 blankets…plus I have way more jackets then I should own and I REALLY need an excuse to wear the trenchcoat i just bought, you know, besides flashing people in the park

I don’t call Summer, Summer. I call it Sit N Sweat Time. I’m over it. Even growing up my family always took vacation in Sept. Ahhh September, so comfortable and breathable. I’m ready for pumpking patches, apple picking, candy corn, and cider!!

I’m with ya’ll Fall ROCKS! Spring’s good too, but not as good as Fall. I actually like ALL the seasons, it’s just that I prefer Fall and Spring because theyr’e usually the right temperatures.

I’ve never been a big fan of the Summer, well, except when I was a kid because I got two months off. I always preferred mild to cooler temps.
Anyways, it’s already going to be August. So, it’ll be Halloween before we know it. I have so many ideas for decorating my place for Halloween this year.
Last year on April fools Day I told my son we were going to go to the dentist. I took him to Nickelodeon Universe instead. It is pretty good…for a mall amusement park. We live about ten minutes away. However many locals are still irked that they removed our hometown hero of Charles Schultz from the park. I gues Peanuts isn’t very relivent to the young cowd, Spongebob is.
I hate summer, though I am actually trying to give it a chance this year.
Hey everyone, I just found out that there’s a documentary coming out about The Rock-afire Explosion, the “band” from Showtime Pizza!
Check out the trailer: http://www.rockafiremovie.com/
I geeked out last night!

That’s kinda sad, kb, considering that in his second home of Santa Rosa, CA, they have a thriving Peanuts cottage industry. Not only is there a museum, they actually named the local airport Charles Schultz Airport and its logo has Snoopy fighting the Red Baron.
When I was little I always wondered where certain comics took place. I kinda thought Calvin and Hobbes, for instance, took place somewhere back east, and there are some subtle hints that it’s in suburban Cleveland, where Bill Watterson grew up. There are some hints that Zits takes place near Cincinnati, where Jim Borgman’s from. I’d guess Peanuts might’ve taken place in the Twin Cities area, by that logic.

If you want peanuts, theres always knotts berry farm, or are they outta that place too?

I don’t remember Night Flight, but I do remember “USA UP All Night.” which was basically the same show you desribed. Gilbert Goffried hosted Fridays, while Rhonda Shear did Saturdays.
My favorite PSA parodies were the Disney Goofy ones. They did everything from safe driving to hooking up a home theater system, and usually Goofy got hurt. I loved those things.
Speaking of Disney specials, I remember the Golden Girls one very well. Isn’t that the one where Emmanuelle Lewis dances.
I also remember Donald Ducks 50th birthday hosted by Dick Van Dyke, Mickey’s Birthday special where he “disappeared” into various NBC shows at that time like Family Ties and Cheers, and “Totally Minnie” where she sang with Elton John while she and Suzanne Summers tryied to make the Revenge of the Nerds guy “hip.”
I also had the 35th Muppet Anniversary show on tape, but my brother got rid of it because a dragon in it scared him.

Brian Why don’t I have a model tramcar sitting right on the desk in my office?!….It sounds like alot of people need to hit the beach/ocean/pool a bit more this summer. That’s when hot weather is advantageous.
