X-E’s ’08 Summer Megaparty: Tired.

Yes, I am going to be terrible tonight and skip out on you. Worked kicked my ass, and just as I began driving home with dreams of a shiny new bottle of wine to help turn my piss into drunken giggles, I got a flat tire. You'd think that a guy pushing thirty might know how to throw on a spare, but it's at this point that I should remind you: I can't even tie knots.

Had to take a cab home. The cab arrived 25 minutes later than the dispatcher claimed it would, and I had to share the backseat with an elderly gentleman who insisted on telling me the current market value of every single house we passed. I'm usually game to humor complete strangers, but tonight was definitely an exception. I killed the louse and pushed his body out of the window. The driver didn't mind.

Now I'm waiting for someone to come help rescue my car, which is currently resting limp on a street that I'm only 35% positive I remember the name of. I don't think tonight's shaping up to have the right set of circumstances that I prefer to write under.

UPDATE: It's 10:45 right now, and I just returned home with a haphazardly repumped tire that's going to need urgent replacing in the morning. I'd tell you more, but I have to save the juiciest details for the major motion picture soon to go into production based on this experience.

The short version: No real blog entry tonight, unless you count this one. Up way up top, I've given you an IOU coupon redeemable at my discretion. Either I'll do two entries in 24 hours later this month, or I'll extend the Summer Megaparty by a day.

And I never did get that wine. Motherfucker.

funny you should mention drinking… I picked up over 40 beers today so I could finally bring about my long time goal of having 99 bottles of beer on the wall. Or, to be more precise, 99 now empty bottles that USED to have beer on the wall. Now, I just have to drink them… but not all in one night.

we’ve heard a couple of things…mostly that it overheats. we keep both consoles out in the open, not in any sort of cabinet. The UPS store guy says he gets between 3 and 4 returns a day. It’s all postage paid by microsoft; you just have to remove the hard drive before you send it in. (an easy thing to do) I don’t want to dissuade you; my husband and son both love it, and it’s hard to pry them away from it! You can find alot of info on the net; they even have you tube videos devoted to it!

Matt, so sorry to hear about the day. I was going to razz you about not being to change a tire, then I realized that I am 30, and while I can change tires all day long, I have no clue how to drive a stick shift and (this one will cause me to revoke my membership to The Male Gender Club) I know next to nothing about football. I just never got into it. I usually don’t even know who’s playing in the Superbowl every year till like 2 days before it happens. I follow Braves baseball, and occasionally golf, and that’s about it. So, don’t feel to bad. As far as the post, you promised a post a day, and that’s what we got. I’ve got no complaints. You don’t owe us jack.

Yeah, there must be something in the water today that’s giving everyone bad news, cause I had to put my car in the shop the other day for some new brakes, and while I knew it was in bad shape and most likely needed brakes and roters, the shop called me today and told me that it would need basically every part that remotely relates to the braking system. The roters were pretty much destroyed. Doesn’t surprise me. I was putting off getting it fixed till next week, but the other day the brakes died on me completely and I had a pretty scary moment where I just flew out into an intersection, and if not for the emergency brake, things could have turned out much worse. Anyways, the total damage is around $500 (not including towing cost, which luckily is covered by insurance) and I won’t have the car back till next Friday.

So, I discovered Hulu.com today at work. Someone had it pulled up before I got there and as I was working I watched/listened to Ghostbuters (the whole movie), as well as about 5 episodes of The Office, which is now my new favorite show in the whole world…at least for this week. Previous to this I had seen maybe 2 episodes of it, but really enjoyed what little I saw. Now I see what all the ruckus is about. It’s hilarious. Great, another show that I’m totally behind on but I really want to get caught up on. I’ve got a list of those, that contains The Venture Brothers, Supernatural, Dead Like Me, 6 Feet Under, Weeds, Doctor Who, Metalocalypse, and a few others–all shows that I’ve seen a little of, but have been intentionally not watching because I wanted to wait till I could watch them all from the beginning.

Hey, Fungusmungus, I got your last message on the previous thread, but being that everyone’s moved on to this one, I figured I would catch you here. I’m on Google chat, if that’s what you mean, but I guess you would have to have my e-mail address to do it. I’m not sure if that’s what you mean. I’m also on AIM, which may work better, and my screen name there is: DarkEntries DJ D

Try that out, but take note that there’s no space betwen “Dark” and “Entries”. AIM’s real sensitive. See if you can catch me there. We’ll talk.

Cameron T., Congrats on the job! Hope it works out for you.

JoshC, Man, so sorry to hear about the dental surgery. I went through that about 7 years ago and it’s no fun. Just hang in there, and once a few days goes by it’ll be all right. Just make sure to get plenty of pain meds. That was literally the worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life, and I definitely don’t want to go through that ever again.

As for the PS3 vs 360 debate–I’m saving up for a PS3 to get soon, mostly because I really want the Blu Ray player too. It is a little pricier over-all, but if you factor in that the average Blu Ray player alone is much more expensive or at around the same price as the PS3, it’s a great bargain cause you’re getting that and a top of the line game system all for the same price. Plus, I just really like the games and the controller. There are a few 360 games that I would love to play and am kind of bummed that they won’t be offered on the PS3 (namely the Halo games and other shooter type stuff cause I’m a big shooter gamer), but maybe down the line I’ll be able to get one of those too. That being said, I would like to do some online gaming, and I know that the 360 and obviously the Wii are good for that, but does anyone know anything about the online capabilities for the PS3? Cause I haven’t really heard anything at all, aside from this guy at work who’s always challenging me to a round of Resistance: Fall of Man when I finally get it.

Chestnuts roasted by DJ D @ 07/12/2008 2:45 AM

Everyone I know who owns a PS3 primarily uses it as a DVD/BluRay player; in fact I know a guy who doesn’t even own a single game for the console, but a few BluRay movies….that’s odd to me.

Eh, I gave up on Weeds. If it wasn’t for Dexter season 2 I wouldn’t miss Showtime at all.

Chestnuts roasted by squee4242 @ 07/12/2008 3:08 AM

Shaunfu, Yeah, that’s just…well, crazy really.

squee4242, I actually haven’t seen any of Weeds at all, but it looks like it might be good. Add Dexter to my list from above. I forgot about that one, but that’s one I really want to check out. That’s right up my ally.

Chestnuts roasted by DJ D @ 07/12/2008 3:11 AM

I thought Dexter might be your speed, DJ D. It’s a great show. Weeds was funny the first couple seasons but the joke got old.
The PS3 as a Blu-Ray player doesn’t seem that odd to me. I thought about getting one myself so I could play DVDs even though I wasn’t into any of the game titles, so I could see being that guy.

Venture Bros.= best animated series right now.

Glad to see other fans!

DJD don’t feel bad about not being into football, because i’m not at all into it either. In fact, iv’e never been into sports in general, at all.

OK everyone, let’s send this good fellow some wine. Who’s with me?

(Speaking of sending you stuff Matt, I still need your address… the lonely Kool-Aid wants to go to its new home where you can pet it and love it and squeeze it and call it George)

Sorry your night was a pile of donkey crap. We’ve all been there. Tomorrow will be better. If not, we will all kick tomorrow’s ass.

Speaking of drinkin’… have any of you esteemed ladies and gents ever had a Salty Dog? Dip the rim of a tall glass in salt, fill with ice, then 2 parts grapefruit juice and 1 part gin, all the way to the top. There’s just something about it… and you don’t expect it to be that good, but it is!

Chestnuts roasted by Hope @ 07/12/2008 4:21 AM

Man i’m really on the fence about gettin a 360. I read some articles about it’s technical failure rate. I didn’t like what I read. Are the newer ones much less prone to failin than the older models ?

Chestnuts roasted by ULTRAMAN @ 07/12/2008 5:12 AM

I think everyone should know how to change a tire, or atleast know someone who knows how. It’s really not that hard. An entire walkthrough is in your car manual and on a sticker under the cover that sits over spare tire.

But this is coming from someone who’s done work on cars before. Personally, I always have my tool box and several auto related items in my trunk just incase anything happens. You never know when you might run into a hot long legged blond who’s broken down on the side of the road.

Chestnuts roasted by PunisherBass @ 07/12/2008 5:53 AM

I just figured out what game it was. A game called Guerrilla war. lol. I just played it. You also have to pick up hostages and get to drive a tank which is cool.

Did you ever notice that when the viruses in Dr. Mario are on their backs with their limbs failing in agony and then get back up it looks almost like they just had an orgasm? Maybe that is just me and my sick sick mind. I’m thinking about making a video about that. Also I swear to you I will make a summer megafest video for you guys before the end of this month. With shoutouts.

Chestnuts roasted by Goob @ 07/12/2008 6:32 AM

PunisherBass You just reminded me of a story that happened when I was in High School. I probably have told this story before but this story is a classic.

We were taking a math test. Not a serious one like a final but just a review. The room had a big long window facing the parking lot. The teacher was kind of bored and started walking around and doing things and two cheerleader type of girls walked out and he thought that was odd because of school just starting and all.

But one of them took jumper cables out of their car and both of them had their hoods open and he said hey these two girls are trying to jump a car and he laughed some. We laughed too. He yelled, “Hey! The red one goes on negative and the black one goes on positive!” and laughed some just to amuse us. They smiled and waved and he waved back. He was in his early 30′s and a really cool guy for a math teacher. Where they were they were quite a ways away. But about 7 minutes later we saw sparks and smoke and he said oh no I was just joking!! And he ran out there lol we laughed our asses off because it wasn’t us.

He came back in to supervise us but the next day he said he spent his whole lunch trying to clean up their mess. Their was melted plastic everywhere and burn damage. He felt awful. We thought it was amusing though and I have told that story several times.

squee4242, You know, I guess after further consideration it’s not that weird. I mean it is one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest player on the market. I just think it’s a big waste not to get some game play out of it too since you shelled out all that money on it. I mean, it’s sitting right there! Begging to be played! To each his own, I guess.

Shaunfu, From what little I’ve seen, I agree with you. I’m supposed to have a marathon session of some of the first season Sunday night so I’m on my way to getting caught up.

ULTRAMAN, Glad to see I’m not the only one. And I agree with you on the 360 technical problems. That’s also one of the things that’s making me lean more to the PS3. But, I can see the appeal of the 360 too. It’s been around a little longer and has a great catalog of games. I think the PS3 is slowly getting there, but they really screwed up the whole launch and pricing of it early on. I think people were really put off by the huge price tag. I think it’s a bit more reasonable now and they’re talking about possibly slashing the price even more to compete with the Wii. The Wii is just kicking everyone’s butt.

Chestnuts roasted by DJ D @ 07/12/2008 9:40 AM

matt, i totally dont think you owe us anything. your fucked up personal experiences are my favorites.

thorzul, my heart stopped when i saw your comment on the game (that was the worst thing that happened to me yesterday), and then i clicked your name and it was like i died and went to heaven. good stuff!

DJ D, i am on the third season of weeds via netflix, and i still think it’s worth watching. dvd for hours on end is the way to catch up on anything.

Chestnuts roasted by MJ @ 07/12/2008 10:22 AM

I’m not gonna lie to you – my 360 has failed 3 times. I’ve had to return it and it was back in my house in about a week each time. BUT, the last time we were totally fed up and about to put it out on the curb, but we bought a fan attachment for it. It has been about a year and it hasn’t had a single problem yet. I guess it gets pretty hot.

PS3 is finally starting to catch up in terms of game quality, and the bluray player is a serious plus. When my husband wanted to get it, I was completely against it because we’re out of space for these things, but he won me over by saying it would also replace our dvd player. Then we started getting some really great games for it and now i use it maybe more than he does. And the updates (except for a recent one, which luckily we missed on vacation) vastly improve the thing every time we do them.

I just noticed at tvondvd.com that Time-Life is putting out the Real Ghostbusters on DVD this fall-all in one set. 26 discs. Time to save the pennies, because the Get Smart set they did was around the same size, and it was $200.

I too, got a flat tire the other week. I felt very “We Can Do It” as I sat on the side of the road and jacked up the car to change the tire. Five minutes later I realized that I put the jack in the wrong spot and the car plopped down bending something that made the breaks squeal making me think I was then due for a 500 dollar break job. The friendly mechanic pointed out my error and only chraged me 23 dollars to bend the whatever-it-was back into place. But I did finally change the tire on my own, and then my hands were very dirty.

So, I’m STILL waiting for my fuckin’ stimulus check! It was s’posed to be here by yesterday.

I got rent to pay dammit!

Oh here’s a helpful hint from me to my X-E brothers and sisters: Do NOT buy a gaming console this week coming up. It’s E3 starting Monday, and price drops are sure to be announced and different exclusive games for each system that will more n’ likely make you weep with regret of choosing one system over another.

My advice is wait til the weekend of the 18th. Thats what I’m doing…..I’m either gonna have a Ps3 or 360 by mid august….meh

I’m also nursing a concussion. I was showering on Thursday evening, we have one of them water pick shower heads on a hose….dam thing got too slippery I guess…fell out of the holder and knocked me smack on the forehead. I saw STARS…man…and all day yesterday I could’nt think straight and had a purple colored knot on my left eye brow bone.
