The Giant Blanket / Portable Heater-Fan Combo Punch.

I was having trouble shaking off the stress of the week that was and the week that's coming, and considering that I've got a day off on Monday, measures had to be taken. I admit to having the kind of brain that prefers darting towards every conceivable thought of panic, and though I can think of a few times when this is sort of advantageous, Memorial Day weekend is not fucking one of them.

Coping devices come in all shapes and sizes -- some are healthy, many are unhealthy, and most seem necessary at the time that they're activated. I've tested out hundreds of coping devices during my many years spent on Earth, running the gamut from the innocuous to the illegal. To this day, nothing has worked quite as well as a sanctuary from stress as...

THE GIANT BLANKET / PORTABLE HEATER-FAN COMBO PUNCH!!!

Oh you know it, baby. Straight up. The Giant Blanket / Portable Heater-Fan Combo Punch refers to my lifelong sweetest escape. Ever since childhood, I reveled in any opportunity to hide myself in a voluminous blanket, leaving only enough room for a plug-in heater-fan to share in my big cloth fort. Sufficiently cut off from society at large, time seems to stop in there. Problems cease to exist, and the only thing I really have to worry about is whether it's the kind of night that calls for the heater-fan to heat me or fan me. Usually, I flip between the two settings before finally drifting off into unconsciousness.

It works every time, and it works in a different way than a plain old nap would. When life kicks your ass so hard that your only defense is sleeping, you might head to the couch or bed to do just that. But it won't be a happy process. You'll eventually fall asleep, yes, but you'll do so with nothing but bad thoughts in your head, likely to influence your dreams and rob you of your crazy God-given right to dream about flying and winning money and getting a pet mogwai.

Naps have their place in the world, but when a situation is a few notches beyond the norm, there is only one answer: The Giant Blanket / Portable Heater-Fan Combo Punch. I strongly recommend it. If you want to solidify the nigh-guarantee that this will solve every issue you're facing, take a pack of Twizzler Nibs under there with you.

I guess I can't call this an SNT when it's being posted after 3 AM, but, uh, happy Saturday?

I personally LOVED Bad Santa ! For me comedies are pretty hit and miss. Either it’s funny or not, simple as that. Every now and then i’ll watch one that’s in between , but most of the time it’s one or the other. As for a movie I thought was going to be awesome , but VERY quickly realized that I wasn’t going to like it, sweeney todd. I didn’t know it was a musical, I don’t like musicals.

Haha Terror Claws I think we adequately sang the praises of Cloverfield around here. I tried to do my part, anyway. Speaking of, I finally got my Slusho! shirts the other day (they’re awesome).

I was pretty disappointed by Pirates 3. It wasn’t horrible, but it was just…kind of lame. It did start off pretty strong, too.

I saw a commercial today for a bunch of truly amazing Hulk board games…Hulk Operation, Don’t Wake Hulk and something called Hulk Smash, which looks like the most fun game ever.

You’re alive! I’ve been going to this site for years and for the past few months, I’d gone to the mainpage and it hasn’t chaged since February so I figured there’ve been no updates. Then I actually click on the blog link and sure enough there are blog updates, they’re just not appearing on the mainpage…. What gives?

Anyway glad to see the site is still indeed up and running!

Morning X-E’rs! I’m starting my day off with a breakfast of Grandma’s cookies and tea. I wish I had some loins now. :)

Chestnuts roasted by DC @ 05/29/2008 9:01 AM

Hey matt, are you going to review the new version of Hulk Hands that they made for this new movie? Because you should! :)

I also thought both Pirates 3 and Sweeney Todd were simply ok, but not great.

Everyone seems to love “Nightmare Before Christmas” except me. That’s a cure for insomnia for me.

I will think of you all as I chomp on hot grilled loins later tonight. Loins is one of those words, where the longer you ponder it, the more ridiculous it seems. Loins.

Yum.

I wish I had Grandma’s cookies.

I thought Bad Santa was hilarous. Watching that movie was my first exposure to an Advent Calendar. I had no idea what one was before that. Little did I know I would look forward to them every Christmas, thanks to my second exposure to Advents. Can’t wait for this year’s! Anybody else getting the Halloween vibe kind of early? I think we talked about this already, but I’m getting jazzed about finally having my own place that I can decorate. I want to go ahaed and start buying stuff now.

Hulk Hands this time don’t look that great. I don’t know, I think the cloth just makes them kind of weak. They seemed bigger the first time around. Hulk Operation??? I gotta see that. I remember the original Operation nearly giving me a nervous breakdown at the age of 10.

Oh, I just read that J.K. Rowling is writing a prequel to the Harry Potter books, but get this, she’s not going to publish it and sell it to the public. Instead she’s going to sell one copy of it to an auction to raise money for charity. How lame is that? Would it not make more since to just publish it like usual and just give all her earnings to charity? That would raise a lot more money and make the fans a lot happier. Somehow I think it will still end up online somewhere eventually anyway.

Chestnuts roasted by DJ D @ 05/29/2008 10:21 AM

LOL DJ D I read about that Harry Potter prequel too. She actually wrote it because they asked her to create it for the charity, and it’s only 800 words anyway so I think it makes more sense to get the most $$$ for the one copy and let everyone else read it for free. I mean, it’s 800 words written on a notecard; I’m a HP fanatic and I don’t think I’d be too keen on running out and buying it…But if I was a million billionaire I might drop a few mil and help out some dyslexic kids for the original copy ;)
Just in case anybody doesn’t know, JKR did already write a couple of Harry Potter books with the profits going to charity: Quiddich Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them. Looks like they may be out of print now though. You can still get them, but you’re paying some random dude instead of the charity.

Just read the Dick Martin died. He’s hanging at a swinging cocktail party in heaven, now.

I think one of the biggest dissapointments in movies was The Wicker Man. I so wanted it to be great, but it just sucked. Also, pretty much every “scary” movie made in the last few years. I’m still a sucker for them though. I’ve already got my hopes up for The Strangers this weekend followed by The Happening the next weekend. I’m sure at least one or both of these movies will dash my hopes on the rocks, yet I’ll always come back for more…

Chestnuts roasted by Saint @ 05/29/2008 10:54 AM

squee4242, Thanks. I didn’t know all the details, so I guess that makes a lot more sense now. I’m a pretty big fan of the books too, but like you said, for 800 words I’d rather just read it online or something. I didn’t know she wrote those other 2 books. I had heard of them but thought someone else wrote those. I might have to check those out, assuming I can actually find them. I’m sure I probably have friends that own them.

Well, I think I’m going to hop in the shower now and get ready for work. If I have time I’m going to cook up some sausages and eat it with the rice and biscuit I have left over from last night’s loin feast.

I just realized I will have spent the last 24 hours eating nothing but sausages and loins. I’m praying there’s not some kind of subtext that can be read into any of that.

Chestnuts roasted by DJ D @ 05/29/2008 10:58 AM

Tomorrow is payday (for those of us who are on bi-monthly pay) and honest to god, I’m spending all my money (the disposable bit anyway) on Gi Joes, Blue Raspberry Kool-Aid and Mt. Dew.

Who says you can’t be 8 again!

Chestnuts roasted by Toxikfoxx @ 05/29/2008 11:12 AM

DJD Mmmmm…sausages and loins!

Chestnuts roasted by DC @ 05/29/2008 11:14 AM

DJ D is the loin crazed king of the 24 hour sausage fest.

PRAISE DJ D!!! It takes a tough man to make a tender loin.

Chestnuts roasted by Rev. Back It On Up @ 05/29/2008 11:25 AM

Oh jesus.

Chestnuts roasted by DJ D @ 05/29/2008 11:28 AM

Aww, DJ D. You should never feel bad about your overpowering lust for loins. Here, I will tell you something I love. Meatballs. I could mau on balls all day and all night. Saucy or dry, as big as my fist or bite sized, I am mad for balls.

So your loin addiction doesn’t seem so bad in comparison, now does it.

And you can trust me, ’cause I’m clergy!

Chestnuts roasted by Rev. Back It On Up @ 05/29/2008 12:02 PM

How about stuffing the sausage and balls into the loins? That should be a satisfying meal.

Chestnuts roasted by DC @ 05/29/2008 12:08 PM

*Buries head in hands* Oh god, what have I started?

Chestnuts roasted by DJ D @ 05/29/2008 1:06 PM

You sure opened up a can of loins, pal.

Chestnuts roasted by Rev. Back It On Up @ 05/29/2008 1:17 PM

Well, I decided not to eat my sausages after all, and opted to go straight to work and picked up some Chinese on the way. I just finished that and now I’m sitting here pretending to actually be productive while I’m waiting on a meeting to start. Guess I’ll have my sausage fest tonight when I get home. I’m sure I’ll keep you all updated, even though that will only open that can of loins even further.

Chestnuts roasted by DJ D @ 05/29/2008 1:48 PM

Did you get some Chinese pork? Nothing beats a good pork.

Chestnuts roasted by DC @ 05/29/2008 1:54 PM

mm, and some Fish Tacos on the side…

Chestnuts roasted by kittymao @ 05/29/2008 2:12 PM

Great blog, Matt. It reminded me of my childhood days when one of my favorite things to do was to take a sheet off of my bed, drag it over to one of the heating vents on the floor in my house, and allow the heat from the vent to blow up the sheet around me while I would crawl around under it. I referred to this structure as a “pancake” for some reason, and it was a wonderful thing, let me tell you. It was like a mini-fort, with very little work involved. Quite similar to your blanket-fan combo punch.

I just tried the Mountain Dew “Voltage” flavor and it is AWESOME. In fact, it maybe the best MD flavor of all time, if not in the history of soda. It basically tastes like a blueberry 7-Up. I got the other two flavors that I haven’t tried yet, but it will be hard to top.
