Awesome! SNT! Whoo!
I'm trying to decide what movie I want to watch. I'm kind of in an Indiana Jones mood…but not the film…the "making of" disc…..
Or The Matrix Revisited….
I guess I will dwell on it whilst I wait for it to get dark enough.

Ah, another Saturday is nearly over. I spent the day playing Mario Kart Wii and cleaning the house.
Has anyone seen a line of toys called Test Tube Aliens? I picked one up at Wal-Mart last night. It was marked down to $2.50 from the original $15 pricetag. It seems to be one of those magic grow things that you put in water, but with flashing lights and moisture sensors.
Back to the rest of the evening,
G
Wow…only 11 days until the 6 month anniversary for the main page articles.
Wouldn't it be easier to just make X-E a blog with archives at this point?

Documentary night, Cameron? Sounds like a blast. Now you've got me in the mood to watch that old PBS From Star Wars to Jedi documentary.
I think I'm going to watch The Orphanage though.
Edison, I actually did consider that, but ultimately, I'll return to articles.
I bought Mario Kart today, too…haven't opened it yet.

We've had the "Test Tube Aliens" before, they're pretty neat. The hard shell is something like Alka Seltzer and then there is an additive that makes the rubbery plastic grow. You have to watch the water level since the sensors are right near the top.
Happy SNT everyone!

Ooh. Good stuff Matt. It's the best console version yet. Do you have other control schemes besides the Wiimote wheel? I've only tried the wheel and the Gamecube controller so far. Growing up leaves far less time for toys and video games.
Although…I did pick up the new version of the Hulk Hands last night. They're fabric now.
Matt - You could update the articles with a minimal amount off effort.
For example, the recent three part blog entry on the Toy R Us shopping spree would be a great "article". List it as an article on the main page, then when someone clicks on it, there are three links to the three bog entries. Quick, easy, and maybe with just a few words for intro, the main page gets a fresh article.
In other news… oh, I have no other news. Happy SNT everyone.

Well, I now have a blog. Visit if you want.
I'm going to a bar called Cheers 2 U (the sign actually uses that abbreviation) for karaoke. I usually sing cheesy 80's stuff. My hubby's b-day was this week so I want to sing him Happy Birthday by Altered Images if they have it.
Matt: Just wanted to say that I appreciate all of your updates on XE over the years. I am an 80's freak, and I love your reviews of toys and stuff from back in the day. I also like the newer content as well. Between you and MST3K, I have been able to stay sane through some hard times.
Keep up the greatness,
Hope - who still doesn't wanna grow up cause she's a Toys R Us kid.

Hey Matt, this might have been after your time, but back in 93' there were these McDonald branded toys. One of them I remember was a "fry" maker. You would put in a slice of bread and turn a crank. The bread would then be cut up paper shredder style in to "fries." I was wondering if you had any thoughts on such a product. It seems right up your alley.

saturdays just aren't the same without either Snick or Saturday Night's Main Event to look forward to.. - or, i guess in third, Up All Night w/ Gilbert Godfrey.. - man.. they showed Class of Nuke'Em High almost every other weekend it felt like..
Happy Saturday everybody!
Hope, I'm totally with you that X-E + MST3K can get you through anything. I've been watching so much YouTubed MST3K since I got my new laptop…been working my way through season 8 but right now I'm taking a break to watch Temple of Doom on USA. Man, I really hope the new Indy movie is decent.

mysteryd8, oh man, The Orphanage was actually pretty darn good. There were some parts in the middle that freaked me out so I stopped watching it, finished up later, and loved it.
No sooner did I finish my earlier post and crash down on my bed for a quick nap than I was drunken dialed by one of my ex's. Which was weird cuz, hello, it's my ex, and plus he never called when we were together in the first place, he always texted. Then it was followed with a barrage of messages and me having to remind him that the whole reason we split in the first place was because his actions showed that he didn't think I was worth an 80 min drive from Philly. Ugh. I'm so tired of crying over men the past few weeks I could fucking puke.
JEM NEVER HAD THESE PROBLEMS!! I'M UNPREPARED!!!

Spent the afternoon working…CVS was a madhouse because Mother's Day is tomorrow…and I have to work tomorrow too.
I love this site, and whenever it's kinda slow, I've been amazed that so many people here have blogs, and that quite a few have started their own (myself included)
Shia LeBouf on SNL tonight!
I'm gonna repeat something I brought up late into the last blog: I've started a series on my blog that I call "Soundtracks For Summer," basically highlighting songs that define the word "Summer."
So what I'm asking is what songs define summer for you? It's an absolute shame that the Summer Jukebox isn't up anymore, it would've helped immensely, since I don't remember most of the tracks.
I already covered the theme to "The Enchanted Tiki Room" and "Under The Boardwalk", and here's what I'm planning to cover so far:
-Vacation (GoGos Version)
-Vacation (Vitamin C version)
-Summer in The City
-Wipeout
-School's Out For Summer
-Various Beach Boys songs (Kokomo, I Get Around, etc)
-Walk The Dinosaur (you guys would all kill me if I didn't cover it, I'm sure of it)
-Rock Lobster
-Love Shack
So…what else should I cover? I got a few suggestions in the last blog, are there any more I should do?
Jerrod, I'd follow that advice. lol. And sadly I don't yet have Mario Kart Wii. But I VOW to get it very soon.

Mystie, I just discovered Crown Combo through Retrocrush last week. Good stuff. My girlfriend is very excited that she can geek out like I do now.
No dice on The Orphanage tonight though. I'm far too tired, so I watched an episode of Mythbusters and ate apricot Jell-O instead. Mmmmm.
They don't make Jell-O 1-2-3 anymore. A quick Google search tells me that I need non-dairy creamer (check) and powdered-egg whites (wtf?). Another quick Google search tells me that I'll pretty much have to sell my first child to procure the powdered-egg whites. No bueno.

Invader Norb:
Summer Songs:
"Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride" from Lilo and Stitch.
"Summertime Blues" by the Who
"Long Hot Summer Night" by Jimi Hendrix (from "Electric Ladyland…Actually that whole album is "summer" to me).
"Summer Nights" from Grease
"Summerbaby" by Polaris (from Adventures of Pete and Pete)
Hmmm
"Route 66" by Chuck Berry? Always equate Summer with travel.

for me….summer songs are:
Summer of 69
Gettin Jiggy with it
any Bon Jovi song(reminds of Point Plesant boardwalk in the 80's when they had the wheels where you win the big framed posters of all the different hair bands)
Stryper: Calling on You
and a whole bunch of others, not that they have summer themes, but just becaue they reflect the summer memories I have had growing up.

Well, Happy SNT everyone! Decided to put my two cents in for the week (which will probably take me that long to post again after this). Today, other than driving to the Popeyes on-post, I did nothing but spend the day in my room watching shows that I taped off my DVR. I gotta stop going through the listings because I end up coming across the channel that have programs that peak my interest and soon I'm setting up to record about 10 million programs. I ended up discovering what was on Biography Channel, and me being a sucker for Biography Portrayals, I ended up recording a number of them. So far this day I have watched a Biography on P.T. Barnum as well as Hayley Mills, Cybil Shepherd and Ron Howard. Add to that a 2hr Deal or No Deal where Howie goes to the Phillipines, a couple poker programs, an episode of Night Court from TVLand (the only place where I can find episodes past the first season since they're so stingy to release any new seasons due to the lack of sales for the First Season), and my obsession over old game shows hosted by dead game show hosts (Gene Rayburn from the old "Match Game" and Peter Tomarken from "Press Your Luck") from GSN. If there's one channel that I have to claim a favorite and that I can watch all day if I was given only one channel to watch, it would be GSN.
Anyway, one person mentioned Behind the Scenes Documentary. The temptation was great, but I almost succumbed to watching all the Behind the Scenes docs from the E.T. 20th Anniversary Edition discs. Of course, if I really wanted an easy watch, I'd so much rather go for the Back to the Future docs, or watch the commentary from The Goonies. I always find myself if I watch those docs, or movies, I'm cheating myself because they are "safe" areas that never get me to thinking different and bigger and beyond.
By the way, now that I typed that comment, it got me thinking to ask this question: Is it true that a new X-Files movie is coming out this summer? I haven't heard anything about this other than it being a summer movie. Oh well, as long as it has Mulder and Scully I'm all game for it.
PS: Before I forget, I found myself skimming through some of Matt's old Halloween articles. I want to make it a goal to read all his old articles as well as whatever he has stored up for this year. Never too early to get started on Halloween hype, is it?
PPS: Now that DJD has posted his blog, it makes me really want to start writing in my blog again. Of course, I'll sit at my computer, get a bunch of ideas for brainstorming in what to write and think about sorting them out but I end up losing the desire to write and don't write anything. If I start writing again, I'll have to link my name to my blog page. I used to post my MySpace page with my name but it always delayed my post to either taking forever to post or not making it on at all. Of course, this was when I was in Iraq when this was happening so hopefully, if I did it again while in the states, I won't have that problem. I….HOPE!

BJ @ 05/11/2008 1:54 AM EDT
Sorry for my double post, but for summer songs, at least ones I haven't seen posted yet but:
Cruel Summer
Kokomo
Playing With the Boys (only because it was played during the volleyball scene from "Top Gun" and shirtless guys in the sand of course made me think of the beach which makes me think of summer, of course, shirtless girls are SO much better (in bikinis of course), okay, I said too much, I'm shutting up now!)

So, I just couldn't sleep at all and have been tossing and turning for the last 30 minutes. I decided to just get up and do something about it. There's an amazing thunder storm outside my window right now and there's a tornado warning on the TV right now. I'm really digging it. I got up yesterday morning after only getting 2 hours of sleep and saw Speed Racer. It had it's problems (namely the obnoxious little brother character), but it was worth it to see all the sfx and of course, the love of my life, Christina Ricci showing lots of leg and looking her normal gorgeous self. I really should be sleeping right now but for some reason I'm wide awake. I gotta be at work at 3pm today so hopefully I can get some kind of sleep between now and then.
FyarlGirl, Yes, Monstervision! I used to love that, and Joe Bob Briggs was cool as hell. I always liked it when he would run down the stats at the beginning of the movie of how much blood and how many breasts you would see and everything. And some of the movies were amazing. Speaking of which, I just saw a commercial for a werewolf movie on the Sci-Fi channel tonight. The fact that it's a Sci-Fi channel movie tells you all you need to know, but I'm a sucker for a werewolf movie, even if it's a bad one, so I might record it and watch it after work. Man, I wish I had a DVR. I think when I move I'm getting one. I've just missed too many things lately.
BJ, Speaking of dead game show hosts, what about Ray Combs from Family Feud? From what I remember, he hung himself. You should totally get a blog. All the cool kids are doing it. You don't want to be square do you?

Glad to see everybody is okay.
Things have been great on my end; probably better than they have ever been in some areas (*Meteor crashes in and kills Manimal*)
I have just been in an online funk lately; between all the Wii codes, etc. I haven't had much to say I guess.
The girls are doing well, etc.
I won Teacher of the Year at our school last week. Very honored, etc. and there is a chance for big cash and prizes if I perform well on the County level.
Anyways, with summer coming on, I should be back to being an active member of the X-E family.
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

The Cure played for THREE HOURS last night, and it was awesome. They actually played some of the lesser known favorites like Jumping Someone Else's Train and Fire In Cairo. I would definately reccomend to anyone on here,if they're coming to your area, you should go. I didn't catch the opener though,so I can't say if they're any good.
And speaking of girls who like Crown Combo,my girlfriend never posts, but she is a huge fan of both X-E and Crown Combo.
Wii related-
Did anyone download that new "Nintendo Channel"? It lets you rate your games,so others can see which games people like before they purchase them. Which is a great idea, but why does it let you rate "Wii Sports"? What's the point? Anyone who can see this review channel must have a Wii,and if you have a Wii,you have Wii Sports, don't you?

Posted by
Kid Nicky @ 05/11/2008 11:23 AM EDT
Kid Nicky I'm very very jealous. And, thanks to you, i'm going to have Fire In Cairo in my head for three days…b/c for some strange reason that's how long it takes for songs to get out of my head.
DJ D I agree with you on Speed Racer, not a great movie but not bad. And yeah I hated Spritle (the little brother) and Chim-Chim in the cartoon and wasn't impressed with them in the movie either. Plus there was a part where all I could think was they're humping his legs!

Mario Kart Wii is GREAT, we have been hooked on it since we bought it last week. It took us awhile to figure out that you have to play solo mode on Grand Prix in order to unlock the mystery tracks/characters, etc
Also, with the new Hulk movie coming out later next month, is anyone else hoping for the return of the Hulk Pinata here on X-E??? Of course, I havent seen as many tie-in products this time around… maybe 7-11 will have something.

DJ D: dvr is amazing! If you get the means, I highly recommend it.
Speaking of things I dvr'd because they sounded good, has anyone seen Wind Chill? It has Emily Blunt and some guy in it. Really good flick, and not the usual claptrap. I'm off to go see if the new blog entry is up.

Posted by
FyarlGirl @ 05/11/2008 7:49 PM EDT
You can unlock Rosalina by having a save file of Mario Galaxy on your wii. I think you have to play a few races (like 50) but I don't know about that part.
I wish I had DVR, it would make taping my stuff so much easier.
I am really behind in the technology sphere. No ipod, never uploaded a video, no DVR, no Wii, no digital cable, no computer built within the last 6 years, BOTTOM LINE: no money to do any of this stuff
X-E is starting to bum me out. Does anybody here remember HE-MAN??

Mario Kart for the Wii makes me weep. It's everything that's wrong with Nintendo in 2008. It's the same game I played on the N64… and the graphics look worse than the Gamecube version for the most part. I was hoping for something stellar but truthfully the DS Mario Kart is a better game. So sad.
OKAMI came out recently on the Wii and EVERYONE needs to play that game because its better than the last Zelda and is just a beautiful, engrossing adventure game.
Also Castle of Shikigami III for old school shooter action.
I like the Wii but the lack of true innovation is disappointing….. over n over again. *sigh*

The songs of summer! I posted on the other blog post but it will probably be ignored so I will post my thought picks here too though they will probably be ignored as well. Haha.
Summertime Girls by Y&T
On A Day Like Today by Bowes and Morley (not Thunder, though they are both members of Thunder)
Nothin' But a Good Time by Poison
Armageddon It by Def Leppard

LOL Yeah I know… but that song was played constantly one summer a few years back by every radio station in the Hartford area. It pretty much defined that summer for me just because I heard it so often.

Invader Norb = I did the same thing last summer! I made a mix tape of anything with 'summer' or 'summertime' etc etc in the titles or lyrics….
"English Summer Rain" by Placebo is a good one.
If I find the tape, I'll list the tracks.

NYC is very confused today. I could have used gloves this morning. This is mid-May, I should be standing in a stream with a fly rod and not a care in the world. Instead I'm in wintery midtown. If the weather is like this, I should at least be contemplating pumpkins and haunted houses. This is bull.
"Does anybody here remember HE-MAN?? " I do…mostly my coloring book though…which is odd considering that i watched the show as well. I am in the same boat when it comes to being jealous of the wii-ophiles, the one exciting thing about going out to Iowa later this week is that my fiancee's grandparents have a wii and they have mariokart, and i totally want to destroy the fiancee's 5 year old brother and do a victory dance, and then point and laugh when he starts crying…i can almost taste the tears…..(just kidding of course, that kid is probably going to beat me everytime).

This message has nothing to do with the blog post, but I figured someone here could help me…
I have a Star Wars "Early Bird" Luke Skywalker figure, with the 2 piece 'telescoping' light saber attachment. It is in ok shape, and I was just curious how much it goes for on the collectibles market? I also have a Darth Vader figure with a 2 piece saber attachment,as well as 'Early Bird' Chewie and Leia figures…are they worth quite a bit as well?

Posted by
Steve_B @ 05/12/2008 1:23 PM EDT
The Early Bird figures? As in…the original figures? Like, the ones you had to send out for before the originals hit shelves?
I don't have one of those price checker indexes available, but I'm pretty sure they have some value to them.
It's freezing and raining here in MI. Ok well freezing to me. I think it's about 54 and anything under about 76 to me is freezing. But it's all overcast and gloomy. Which would be fine if I was at home, cuddled under a fleece blanket and not in a grumpy mood.

SEE? Teasing. A victorian lady with her ankle exposed. A moustacchioed cowboy flapping his chaps seductively. A luscious wave of gravy, enrobing a mound of mashed potatoes, generously lubed up with butter. Typical teasery. Atypical audience.
I must throw in my two cents regarding Mario Kart Wii:
I was very put off by the initial reviews/impressions from some videogame websites. The track designs looked terrible, and from the descriptions I'd read, it sounded like they had ruined powersliding. Plus the wii wheel is goofy, let's face it.
I actually had decided to not buy it, but my 5 year old wanted it for his birthday earlier this month…so here we are.
It turns out the game rocks. Like, seriously. I love it. The wheel is surprisingly precise, and very fun. And powersliding works great. (They've made it basically impossible to do continuous powerslides on straightaways. Other than that, it works similarly to previous games. I'm ok with that.) The "retro" level selection could have been way better, but the levels overall are decent enough.
Online is very smooth, and the random matches start up pretty quickly. Much better than Smash Bros in that regard.
My only complaint is the battle mode. Completely worthless.

It's nice that they're using puppets for the fraggles movie, but I'm kind of curious what their CG forms would look like. I've been desentisized to CG-abominations of things I love, so… somebody get on that. The alligators and hippos from Fantasia too, while you're at it.

Naw, it's just that we're the only two that have good taste in music. LOL. That song paints a picture of summer. It can come on in the middle of winter and I crank it up, the heater up, and the windows down. I quickly realize the error of my logic as I shiver violently and fumble for the window lever/crank (depending on what car i'm driving)

A non CG Fraggle movie?!! If I wasn't at work I would be jumping up and down shouting WOOOHOO. I at least hope the puppets they use look like the original ones and they don't try and "update" them for a new generation. Ahmet Zappa I guess is the main producer on this, so it definitely won't be bland.

Click my name for the link. It looks wonderfully terrible.

Lost Boys 2008 really looks just…..awful. Do you think Corey Haim finally offed himself when he wasn't included in this?

According to IMDB he's in this one though. I guess we'll find out for sure when this one drops.

So, just watched the Lost Boys trailer. Hmmm. The really weird thing? Feldman, with the long hair and bandana, looks eerily similar to how he looked 21 years ago.
Or maybe I just need to watch the original again.

I think I have figured it out. XE is like a boyfriend (or girlfriend) who says they need their space. And then you sit and wait, cause you love them. Or because you are insane.

Yeah, and then you sleep with their best friend behind their back.

Let's think of ways they could possibly ruin the new fraggles movie. But "fun"! CG is ruled out fortunately, but what else can they do? I'm guessing maybe:
*groan-inducing celebrity guest voices (Rosie O'Donnel, Ashton Kutcher, any member of N'Sync, Adam Sandler…?)
*inane pop culture references (michael jackson, hannah montana, Lord of the Rings, ipods, whatever else has been in the news for the past 5 years)
*one or more of the fraggles now have kids–plot lines revolve around them
*subtle allegories to current political controversies
*attempt to appeal to the current young children demographic (let's face it, their tastes are horrible!)

* Make them wear pants

Corey Haim is in the new Lost Boys. For awhile, he was, then he wasn't, but somehow he got everything worked out and is in it. It's all covered on the movie's wikipedia page.

A Fraggle movie without Sprocket? Nooooooo!!! Although I'm sure the old guy is probably dead by now.

*Not make them hippies hopped up on Doozer Sticks.
Dan, after some research on IMDB, we can thank our stars that Gerard Parkes, the guy who played "Doc," is still very much alive (and is rumored to reprise his role in the movie)

I will agree with you, he does look eerily the same. I watched the trailer and that was my thought the whole time.

I think I'll end up watching the Lost Boys sequel just out of curiosity.
So, any football fans in here?? I've been dying for the season to start again and was thinking about it after posting a football comic strip on my blog. Just a few more months for the season to start! Woohoo!!!

Matt, when will 'tomorrow' happen? I think I've found out that Matt traveled from California to Pluto, where a day is 6.4 days here on earth. Can't wait for the new blog post sometime today!
/Matt you have many fans. I'm one of them. Thanks for free entertainment. I can wait for posts.
I don't know you, and you don't know me, so who better to share this traumatic realization with on a fine, wet Friday morning:
I just found a long grey hair on my head!!!
Could this be the beginning of the end of Reverend Back It On Up??? I was just about to realize my dream of becoming the next Betty Page! If only the blog would get updated, it would really soften the blow of my old age setting in all at once like this.
How can I show you all a picture of something very important that I found?
The important picture is not of my grey hair, by the way.
Rev.
yeah I got a haircut yesterday and she found a few grey hairs too, and I'm only 23! although I wouldn't mind going all grey, cuz then I would say it was because once, there was this kid who, got into an accident and couldn't come to school, but, when, he finally came back, His. Hair. had turned from black into bright white. He couldn't quite explain it, the cars had crashed sooooooooooooooooo harrrrrrrrd ,mmmmmmmmmm
and so on

Flabslapper: Whoa, crash test dummies reference! That took me back! lol
I have no grey hairs yet @ 30! Woohoo! But most people in my family didn't go grey very early so, hopefully neither will I!

I still have no grey hairs @ 30! No one in my family really went grey too soon so hopefully neither will I!

DC - I'm 31, and just found this. I think I am on the slippery slope towards geezer now. I'm going to break a hip and get that smell. It is all over. Actually in one of my main social circles, the older and crustier you get, the more your company is desired. So just maybe I'm on the way up!
Flapslapper - You're adorable with your grey hairs. You're like Holden Caulfield. Don't leave the foils on the subway.
Rev: The grey hairs will just make you more sophisticated! I would take they greay hair over the aches and pains. I'm unbelievable clumsy and my clumsiness has caused me to sprain my ankle and knee. I have to wear a brace on my knee when I go to the gym and constantly have to crack my ankle. (sigh) Where has my youth gone.

I'm 26, and I'd rather have grey hair than what is currently happening to me, which is losing it. I'll probably be bald by 30.

JLAJRC @ 05/16/2008 10:27 AM EDT
JLAJRC - Bald is beautiful! Just do the right thing and shave it all off when it starts to recede. My husband isn't even losing his hair, but has been shaving his head for years. He has a gorgeous and sexy round skull.
It occurs to me that if anything gets this site abandoned forever, it will be the readers all complaining about how old they look and how achy their miserable old bones are. So, for a change of pace, someone please talk about toys and cartoons.
I may be getting old and achy, but my spirit is still young!

Rev: I would if it wasn't for a big scar that my hair covers up from a couple of surgeries I had. If I could get away with the Stone Cold Steve Austin look, I would.

Just out of curiousity, anybody here Howard Stern fans? I only ask because he was playing the Bill O'Reilly and Sue Simmons audio all week and then there are links to those videos here. Just wondering if it was because people heard them on his show or it's just coincidence. BTW, thanks to those that did post them, for some reason the visual makes Bill O'Reilly seem way more nuts.

Anybody see the trailer for that new movie "The Strangers"? It looks like it might be good. And the crazier thing about it is that's it's based on true events.

DC @ 05/16/2008 11:41 AM EDT
wow. Big Wide Blog.

kb @ 05/16/2008 11:59 AM EDT
"Based On True Events" means that the makers of the movie took one iota of truth from what happened in real life then made up 99% of the rest of the movie.

Clockwork: True, but I still want to see it.

oh jeez, my sister said i reminded her of Holden Caulfield too after she read the book, probably because I'm about one rejection away from getting beat up by a pimp lol

flabslapper @ 05/16/2008 12:15 PM EDT
I'm not saying the movie won't be decent, but every other movie claims it's "based on true events" when in actuality it barely is. I'm also leery of horror movies that come out this time of year; they usually suck.

Clockwork @ 05/16/2008 12:16 PM EDT
Truth is I probably won't see this movie until it's out on DVD. I really don't go watch movies and it takes me forever after they've been on DVD to watch them. I'm always behind on movies. I keep a list of movies I have yet to see and i
