..In Japan. Which happens to be my birthday. (Twenty one this year! Woo! I’m still a teetotaler!)
Oh yeah, and Cinco de Mayo. If you’re taking Spanish in school, it’s pretty much a requirement for the teacher to bring (or make students bring) Mexican food.
Went out to the Mall of America yesterday for the heck of it. They have the new Nicktoons World done (previous camp Snoopy) I have to admit that it is pretty cool. Three completely new rides, the SpongeBob roller coaster and the Last Airbender Skateboard thingy ride are the best new additions. All the others just got new names and mascots.
I was disappointed in that they passed up the golden opportunity to call the food court area the Krusty Krabb.

People who don’t know or care about Pokemon (or Smash Bros.)?
Do such people exist, Norbert?
Let us hope for the sake of the world that they do not.

NervousXians- I have seen the sequel but I don’t like it as much as the first. The first one was great because everyone had different weapons, alliances, motivations. The second everyone has guns (far less fun than stabbing weapons) and everyone was against the government. It lacked a lot of the elements that made the first one so cool.
Knegative- My son loves Pokemon to the point of obsession. I loathe and hate it. It’s a ridiculous marketing ploy that is set up off of the lame concept of creating one particular cheesy pokemon character and then changing it ever so slightly to re-package and re-sell it and with hundreds of pokemon we’re talking about infinite repackagings and one giant waste of money and energy.
and I can fairly suggest that this applied to my own childhood toys as well. He-Man got ridiculous when you had regular Skeletor, Battle Armor Skeletor, Terror Claws Skeletor, Skeletor with the dragon on his back that sprayed water, etc etc etc. It gets to be stupid after awhile.
And speaking of there isn’t a more stupid show on TV than Pokemon is (aside from Teletubbies and Bill O’Reilly).
All the Pokemon say is their own name… over and over.
I’m 30, I lived through and enjoyed the He-Man, Transformers, Voltron, TMNT toy fads and all of them got incredibly dumb after overreaching on product variations just to make a buck and Pokemon seems to keep going for over a decade based on the absolute worst version of this concept.
End it already. Besides the anime fad seemed to die several years ago now.

You sure hate Pokemon, Rob Poole.

The main thing that keeps pokemon going, and the only real thing I absolutely love about it is the video games. They singlehandedly (probably spelled that wrong lol) got me interested in RPGS. Seriously. I cannot express how much I love playing the games. Catching , traning, battling theses wierd creatures, I just love it SO MUCH!!! =D
Chestnuts roasted by ULTRAMAN @ 03/31/2008 1:01 PM
I’ve never played the games, but I have watched a few cartoons and been hit several times in the head with Pokemon soft toys.
Pokemon is bright, colourful and soft on the head.
It’s like a plush form of a shiny object, and shiny objects are good. Plush things are also good. Pokemon, therefore, must be good.
Pokemon. Better than being hit in the head by a dull-coloured brick. Pika-pika.

going to second with Guise here.
I know fuck-all about Pokemon, but by golly are they fun to look at!

Pokemans isn’t my thing, but my fiance just got Diamond and is having fun with it.
Also, anime isn’t really a fad…it’s more like a subculture now. A very complicated, drama-ridden subculture with many sub- sub- sub-cultures. This is why I generally don’t talk to other anime fans, haha. Nobody likes the same stuff anymore. At least back in 1998, EVERYBODY liked DBZ, so you could talk to people about it. XD Now if you talk about the wrong show in the wrong circles, you get lambasted. Lame.
“Pokemon is bright, colourful and soft on the head.”
That’s about the best review you can give to anything, as far as I know. The only descriptive which would improve upon it is if Pokemon tasted like bacon. Does pokemon taste like bacon?

Rob: I have to agree that the sequel wasn’t as good. Did enjoy the fact that they had to be paired up & the set of rules that went along w/that, But the first was far superior.
And i just can’t get enough of that training video. That chick is insane & i love her for it.
Chestnuts roasted by NervousXians @ 03/31/2008 5:29 PM
I just love the concept of pokemon . Catching and training wierd monsters, that have fire, electric, pyschic etc… powers to fight each other is super fun. Plus with the recent generation of games, Nintendos added alot of strategy to the game. Not that there wasn’t strategy in it befor, it’s just that there’s alot more now. I just love Koffing and Weezing.=)

I love Teletubbies, too!
SRSLY, Tinky Winky, ftw.

By “tomorrow” I of course meant “Tuesday,” and this was an easy slip considering that they both start with “t.”
I’m glad Pokemon’s still rocking.
Also, can someone give me a quick refresher course on how Wii friends are made? If I were to give out my number, would I also need to enter anyone else’s number I had, or could I just let them handle that because I’m lazy?
Anyone remember Firecons, those Transformers with like flint in them that sparked when you moved them? Now, that’d be a nifty Pikachu toy if it came out the cheeks.
Teletubbies are freaky things though, their faces are just creepy and a diet of toast and custard, man?

Some of them do, but not all of them. There are as many flavors and combos as there are Pokemon, it seems.
Matt-
When you log on in to the Smash Bros. online, you’ll see your code. You tell us your code, then you enter in ours. So the short answer is yes,but the long answer is maybe not.
I *think* that as long as you had one person’s code it will be OK,because if you have Kneg’s code for example, and you go to fight him,and I’m fighting him too,all three of us will be against each other.
And Ron Poole, anime must be the longest running fad of all time, since Speed Racer was a pretty big hit in the 70′s. Hardly pet rock territory.
And allthough I don’t like Pokemon, your theory about them stretching it to make a buck doesn’t really apply. There’s FAR less iterations of Pokemon then there are, say,Madden, and the Pokemon titles usually add a lot more than the yearly roster update. If you’ve got a problem with sequels, then you’ve got a problem with the entire video game industry.

Just yesterday I was drinking a milk tasting pokemon that countered the upset stomach one of those bacon tasting pokemon gave me.

I don’t have a Wii, so I believe I am all alone in my non-Smash Brothers world (at least on X-E). On the plus side though, I’m watching Opening Day baseball as the Pirates are getting beat on by the hated Braves. Here’s looking forward to 16 consecutive losing seasons!
