My fiance has offered to translate for us:

どこに住んでいるか。私は日本に住み、訳者が付いているこ.私はチーズを憎むも。ページを読む.

Where do you live? I live in Japan, and I’m studying translation. I hate cheese, too. I’ll read this page.

In America, you eat blue cheese? In Japan we only have white and yellow cheese.

I just had corned beef hash for dinner. I don’t know if it was deliberate or a coincidence.

everytime someone puts the letters “X” and “E” next to each other (referring to this site of course) i end up looking at it sideways like an emoticon… it kind of looks like a pissed off guy with a big geraldo mustache… dont you think? X-E…

Chestnuts roasted by Anonymous @ 03/17/2008 7:46 PM

so Anonymous, you’re 12 years old, and you don’t speak Spanish very well? Is that right? Its been so many years since i took a Japanese class…

Chestnuts roasted by TOmmy! @ 03/17/2008 7:54 PM

Chestnuts roasted by Anonymous @ 03/17/2008 8:15 PM

vea, yo puede hablar español.

Chestnuts roasted by Anonymous @ 03/17/2008 8:19 PM

Ich kann in anderen Sprachen auch sprechen.

O en español

Ou un petit français

Aren’t I cool too? Sadly, I don’t know any Japanese.

Goddamn it…that’s something else that I’m missing over here in the Far East: MILK! Real milk, anyway. They sell some kind of godless, non-dairy, faux-milk over here in cartons. I tried it once and recoiled in such a fashion that most people typically reserve for the viewing of autopsy footage or tribal genocide. I can’t understand it…this country can host an Olympics, but it can’t offer me milk. Something doesn’t add up, here…

Speaking of milk and cheese, are there any fans of Evan Dorkin comics like “Milk & Cheese: Dairy Products Gone Bad” here on the X-E Blog? I haven’t read those comics for years, but I always got a real kick out of them. Just curious…

Chestnuts roasted by The Yeti @ 03/17/2008 9:16 PM

Holy Jeezus…speak of the devil! I just did an X-E search for Evan Dorkin and found an interview Matt did with him way back in ’00. Wild stuff.

You should try being a paramedic. Low ass pay and long ass hours. And zero appreciation.

Chestnuts roasted by Bernie @ 03/17/2008 10:53 PM

Chestnuts roasted by Anonymous @ 03/17/2008 10:58 PM

Chestnuts roasted by Anonymous @ 03/17/2008 11:00 PM

i bet our resident vegetable at X-E appreciated the paramedics when they pulled him out of his mangled truck on halloween night. if that is any consolation

Chestnuts roasted by vwarb @ 03/17/2008 11:02 PM

that of course being The Yeti

Chestnuts roasted by vwarb @ 03/17/2008 11:04 PM

Subtitles plz k thx.

Chestnuts roasted by Mystie @ 03/17/2008 11:15 PM

You need to pay extra for that, Mystie.

$9.95 the first month, $you’ll see for every month after.

Chestnuts roasted by Invader Norbert @ 03/17/2008 11:37 PM

Mystie My thoughts EXACTLY. Anywho, Goob A crostini is like a huge oversized crouton. We used old stale bread and then cut them into small round pieces and baked them again to make them crunchy. they are like a really skinny really big crouton, and I love them. No wonder I lost about 20 pounds after quitting that job…..

Chestnuts roasted by Leigha @ 03/17/2008 11:38 PM

Oh, the Japanese poster is 12 years old, and he’s just doing this to mess with us, basically.

For example, this:

“This is from Japan, is there yet another American who hath learned Japanese?”

And other sorts of pompous things.

Chestnuts roasted by Annette's Fiance @ 03/17/2008 11:46 PM

As fun as translations are….. I haven’t posted in a while (since advent) and I just wanted to invite everyone to see what has kept me so busy for a good cause. Please check out this fundraiser I created at my medical school to support the American Cancer Society’s Breast Cancer Programs: http://www.canvasofhope.org
Thanks! now back to translations

I’m not even seeing any Japanse on the page. All I’m getting is a bunch of small squares. Doesn’t sound like it was all that interesting anyway.

Went to see Doomsday tonight–the new one with Kate Beckinsale. Great movie if you can suspend your disbelief and check your brain at the door. I had to call shenanegans (i.e. bullshit) on a few things in it, but otherwise it looked great and was a lot of fun, as long as you don’t expect too much practicality or realism. Surprising though, since it was directed by Neil Marshall, who directed what I thought was the best horror movie to come out in 2006–Descent. Actually, probably one of the best horror movies I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a whooooooole lot.

vwarb,
Yes, I consider myself an ardent admirer of John Q. Paramedic and the craft he administers. I had never thought too highly of the paramedics of Pike County, Ohio (the county in which I crashed my truck and also the county in which I spent my childhood) simply because it is a decidedly redneck county brimming with unwashed, uneducated degenerate meth-chefs. However, my opinion of the population (its paramedic constituency, at any rate) was drastically modified when a handful of Pike County residents BROUGHT ME BACK FROM THE DEAD!!! And then, as if that feat by itself wasn’t enough to garner my reverence, they went and BROUGHT ME BACK FROM THE DEAD AGAIN ABOUT ELEVEN SECONDS LATER!!! I will never again have a negative comment to make about Pike County paramedics (or any paramedics, in general), for it is by virtue of them “just doing their jobs” that I am alive and kicking today. I cannot fathom the stress inherent to performing the duties of a paramedic. Theirs is truly a profession that deserves respect in its highest measure.
