02/17/2008: X-Eastertainment.

Easter is also known as Pascha, which is interesting, because it means that Easter was named after the phonetical spelling of Caesar's wry accountant.  Learning this has made me appreciate Easter a little more than I did yesterday, but I still don't understand why Toys 'R' Us put together a full-blown Easter section so early.  This didn't keep me from blowing 20 bucks on crap from it, but then, we all send shout-outs to Jesus in our own way.

I was immediately thrilled to find the Cadbury "Clucking Bunny" doll shown above, based on the infamous rabbit from the Creme Egg commercials of yesteryear.  After a further inspection and a better assessment of my role in the universe at large, I told myself to chill out, and that bunnies that cluck when you squeeze their feet aren't worth performing public touchdown dances in celebration of.  Inside, though, I was beaming.  Beaming for bunnies.

Selling for just 6.99 and complete with a gooey Cadbury Creme Egg, it's a pretty good deal.  The percentage of your soul which rightfully insists that nobody actually needs a clucking rabbit is easily conquered by the low price, and I found myself not debating whether or not I should own one, but rather, how many clucking rabbits needed to come home with me.  I had this theory that placing one bucking bunny in each of the rooms in our apartment would create the synergy I've been pining for ever since we decided to paint every wall a different color.  Cooler heads prevailed, and I'm now the proud owner of just one Cadbury Clucking Bunny: Not a litter's worth.

For the same price, I also picked up a "Spud Bunny" — Mr. Potato Head's latest adventure in selling the fuck out.  Whatever machismo Mr. Potato Head had left was promptly destroyed when he agreed to don fluffy bunny slippers, and by the time you get to the atrocious ears and puffy tall, Mr. Potato Head is no longer someone I can turn to when I need a wingman or advice on sports betting.

Notwithstanding that, there's something to be said for any scenario that allows a person to truthfully proclaim that they spent their afternoon dressing a potato up as a rabbit.

That picture.  Is BLURRY.  Why am I only now noticing this?  It's SO blurry!  I hang my hat on a nigh-pristine record of non-blurry pics.  I can't believe I'm going to degrade my grade with a blurry shot of a stupid Wonka "Egg Hunt" set.  What a waste.

The blurry bag contains a dozen egg-shaped containers filled with individually wrapped Wonka candies, ranging from Nerds to SweeTarts.  All of the eggs are colored within the typically pastel-ridden Easter palette, which I totally loathe.  It isn't something I would've bought for myself on those merits, nor would the set seem to be something worth writing 50 words about…until you notice the key phrase.  Wonka Egg Hunt…with a Golden Egg.

You might think that a sack full of candy-in-eggs would be pretty self-explanatory, but they actually went through the trouble of including instructions.  On Easter Sunday, you're supposed to gather the children around and set them off on a wild egg hunt, replacing the sad and clichéd hard-boiled real things with this ragtag bunch of plastic ovals.  Whichever kid finds the elusive Golden Egg is to be crowned Master of All Things Easter.

It's suggested that parents fill the Golden Egg with money or a special prize, and I really must agree with this, as the only thing I found in mine was the same lame package of two SweeTarts that's already inside half of the normal eggs.  I'd be pretty upset if I was christened Master of All Things Easter and all I got out of it were two SweeTarts.  This also begs the question of whether or not it's wise to turn the traditional holiday egg hunt into a high stakes competition, as you can bet that any participating child not christened Master of All Things Easter will respond with kick-filled tantrums.

Being a parent only to cats and a half-dead bonsai tree has its benefits, as I'm free to claim the Golden Egg for myself and use its innate magical powers for ends that serve me and me alone.  I've yet to ascertain how it helps its keeper gain the ability of flight, nor have I figured out how to make it shoot deadly laser beams, but no doubt, that day will come.  And then, all who have crossed me will pay.

I just became so disoriented.  Between the time listed on the blog and Easter-themed entry, I was all, "IS IT DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME?"

The Easter stuff is out early this year because the holiday itself is early this year, March 23rd. I hate early Easters. It's too cold to be running around in pastels and fancy hats, half the country is still getting snow then, and the other half will probably still be recovering from St. Patrick's Day.

On the other hand, it makes the shelves look a lot less decimated when the big heart boxes of chocolates are dumped on the half-price table. And I actually peeked at that Cadbury stuffed bunny this afternoon at an otherwise atrocious day at work and didn't even see it could cluck! I might look into one of those myself…and I don't even LIKE Cadburys! (Too sweet. :p)

Reese Hearts 50% off or Reeses Eggs at full price?? For some reason I went with the eggs.

Holy crap! I must get one of those clucking Cadbury bunnies! As someone obsessed with Cadbury Creme Eggs, this is a given.

That bunny is…well, there just aren't words.  I love it.

On another easter related note, today I discovered a (what I'm assuming is new) candy bar.  It's the official, honest to goodness, POP ROCKS CANDY BAR!  Even as I write this my mouth is ablaze with chocolatey goodness and a rather enjoyable popping sensation.  They sell for $1 at the Kroger near my dorm.

cadbury eggs always grossed me out. i remember when i was young sometimes my mom would get like a little easter scene thing inside of an egg but it was all made out of sugar. it was damn tasty but would prob make a dentist keel over and die.

Posted by gilly @ 02/17/2008 9:20 PM EST

If I saw one of those bunnies, I'd be obligated to buy one.  Kinda like how I was obligated to buy that Peep plushie I found a couple years ago.

I usually don't do much for Easter, even though I'm Christian.  Sometimes I feel kinda guilty about it.

Someone inform Mystie of the Clucking Bunny.

I, too, think that the buny alone will make me Master of All Things Easter.

The Easter stuff is out early this year because the holiday itself is early this year, March 23rd.

My 21st bday happens to fall on Easter this year! :)

NorbertTry around the 9th of March when Super Smash Brothers Brawl comes out.  Also, Gamestop is supposed to be getting them in March as well.  Most times Best Buys have them on Sundays…I would definitley get there early though.

I loves me some Easter…ties with Halloween as my second fave Holiday.  I even wrote a book about it  in second grade called My Easter Vacation…If I can find it, I might set up some kind of photo set on flickr…

My most dissapointing Easter memory is the year my grandparents took me and my brother to the Old Monmouth candy factory in Freehold, NJ. They used to open to the public near easter so you could buy chocolate bunnies and shit.  My little 9 yr old  mind was filled with the possibilities of magical easter bunnies filling chocolate molds, and painting eggs and maybe even an Oompa Loompa thrown in for good measure. We step inside and ….middle age ladies with hairnets putting candy on an assembly line.  Loud, mechanical and DEFINITELY not Easter in the slightest.  The outside decorations were a cruel joke, consisting of lights and bunnies and easter  lawn ornaments…which of course made me think of all the wonder i was about to experience.

Working in retail, I know that the seasonal stuff hardly ever sells. Heck, the department store I work at still has some XMas junk! Maybe if it was candy it would be gone by now.

The Spud Bunny's not new.  I bought my daughter one of those last Easter (or the Easter before?)  It came in a bucket, and the ears were pink instead of blue.  Even LESS masculine.  Poor Mr. Potato Head…

Posted by muppet @ 02/17/2008 10:32 PM EST

I want a clucking bunny or two. I've always loved that commercial, mostly because bunny are cute ^_^
The spud bunny is more than just a little creepy. I think if I could fit the bunny ears on my head, I would wear them. They should've made it a girl spud bunny, but even that is just strange.
My parents tried to do an egg hunt when I was little with chocolate eggs, things can get messy if you didn't realize that you forgot an egg behind the television. LOL So the plastic eggs would be a lot better in that respect.

Posted by Trellian @ 02/17/2008 10:46 PM EST

Holy crap, this thing is brilliant. I think I may have told this story before, but the way I first discovered X-E was on an internet hunt to try and find the Cadbury clucking bunny commercial online somewhere (this is before I was aware of YouTube). For some reason, I think it's one of the funniest commercials I've ever seen. After an unsuccessful search and Googling "80's commercials", I stumbled upon the "80's Ads" section of X-E. After reading a few articles, I was hooked and haven't looked back since.

The Spud Bunny's not new.  I bought my daughter one of those last Easter (or the Easter before?)  It came in a bucket, and the ears were pink instead of blue.  Even LESS masculine.  Poor Mr. Potato Head…

Reminds me of A Christmas Story…"It's like some kind of pink nightmare…"

I don't know, I'm just not feeling the bunny goodness this year.  I will go through the Easter season convinced that Hare Winningham is going to show up.
But if she's clucking, that would be pretty cool.

The main thing I remember about Easter is a HUGE poster my folks would put up on the wall in the kitchen.  It was about 6 foot long, photo-realistic, and featured various rabbits and painted giant eggs.

It somehow managed to survive from year to year but became more wrinkled.  We never did any egg hunts, just hidden loaded baskets and that awesome poster.

Posted by MikeyD @ 02/17/2008 11:18 PM EST

I've been trying to find something interesting to say about candy eggs or girly potatoes but I'm still cracking up at the Rome reference. He totally should have gotten his own spinoff.

Posted by squee4242 @ 02/17/2008 11:23 PM EST

Every year, my older cousin and I are in charge of hiding all the Easter eggs for all the little cousins to go out and find at our big cookout. Being that there are about 47,000 of the little runts it turns into a total mess, and we usually have to start all over again and do it twice cause the first time around somebody was a little slower than the rest and didn't get any eggs, while another one ends up with some kind of stockpile. After it's all over, my 2 older cousins and I end up just throwing the boiled ones at each other and trying to find some kid that's not looking so we can sneak up and stuff one down his/her shirt. It basically degenerates into wanton violence from there.

Posted by FyarlGirl @ 02/17/2008 11:38 PM EST

I want real bunnies, but my husband's childhood rabbit ate their other bunny, so I'll never get to.
Also: my great-grandfather raised bunnies for medical testing, to bring in extra cash.  I must be cursed.

Anyway, I'm definitely checking out the Easter goods next time I'm at the drug store. Gotta see the clucking Bunny doll in person!

To Annette: Easter is more of a "family fun" day to me than a religious holiday since I'm Buddhist instead of Christian.

And yet, strangely enough I LOVE Easter and Christmas.

Also: Thanks for reminding me I need to go find a score of cadbury eggs.  NOW.  No, not now.  NOW….

Wasn't there a Golden Egg candy last year? It was essentially a Cadbury Cream egg but with graham cracker or something in it? Or did I just dream that?

Posted by Eddie Lightning Frog @ 02/18/2008 12:56 AM EST

in my family, we had the plastic eggs, and all of them had pennies and coins in them, but one of them always had a dollar in it and another always had 5 dollars.  i only got the 5 dollar one once, and i remember that day was also when i first tied my shoes all by myself.  it was also the day that my aunt accidentally dropped a whole tray of deviled eggs into my grandma's purse.  ah, good times…..good times….i don't remember having easter egg hunts after that year.

Posted by Leigha @ 02/18/2008 12:56 AM EST

Ha! TCC is AT LAST the one to drag things off topic. I saw and enjoyed Knight Rider this evening. Anyone else see the new pilot? Really, the old show was so bad that a new one could only help. It's so funny when people are like "This is not right!". People, I watched the show when I was SIX YEARS OLD. You need to chill.

Posted by Terror Claws Cole @ 02/18/2008 1:00 AM EST

Easter egg hunts were a tradition of only a few years at my house. Once I got to maybe 10 years old, I stopped getting easter baskets, and ultimately as the years went on, stopped getting anything all together. Occasionally my mom would bring home clearance easter candy from work. Yeah, my family is lazy.

I remember the clucking bunny, one of the few commercials I can remember from yesteryear. Since I work for Toys R Us, I'll have to get one, or stash it away until after easter when it's price plummets, gotta love stashing.

Posted by Heza @ 02/18/2008 1:20 AM EST

Terror Claws Cole, Holy shit, that was tonight??? I totally didn't know! Crap, I missed it! Not that I was expecting much, but it's freaking Knight Rider! I wonder if they'll re-run it before next Sunday.

Posted by DJ D @ 02/18/2008 1:23 AM EST

Jessica Marie, I actually have a little bit of a phobia of rabbits for real ever since I was bitten by one when I was a kid. All this Advent business with Hare combined with your stories of bunny cannibalism aren't helping matters any.

Leigha, Actually that sounds like an amazing day. I love days like that, when a bunch of little good things happen throughout the day. Nothing major, just enough to keep you in a reasonably good mood and laughing a little. Like when you get home and your tax refund check AND a package you've been expecting are waiting for you. I love crap like that.

Posted by DJ D @ 02/18/2008 1:28 AM EST

Watching Knight Rider on TV and not being able to stop smiling because of a Cadbury bunny - holy hell, it must he 1985 all over again!

I think I now have the perfect excuse to go out and waste money on Easter candy. As long as I put all of it in a basket and give it to the lady Easter morning, no one will notice how much of it I actually eat, and how many hours I'll spend loving that silly little clucking rabbit.

An actual "clucking" Cadbury bunny! Egads! It is as if someone raided the memories of my eight-year-old self and created a product that should have been dreamt up when I was a lad.

Even though I shouldn't get one, I loved Cadbury cream eggs (and that rabbit) so much as a kid, that I just don't think I have much of a choice.

Posted by Vanilla Fire @ 02/18/2008 3:14 AM EST

When I was younger, wayyy younger, I'd color eggs and then the night before, they'd all disappear. The Easter Bunny would hide them around the house, with coins taped to each one.. (I hope we always found them.. it'd be gross to realize there's a two decades old egg hiding behind a curtain). When I got a little older and kept forgetting to color eggs, that lovely bunny would fill plastic eggs with cash, leaving me with about 30 dollars or so after the hunt. Not to mention a huge easter basket on the porch.

I love that bunny.

Posted by Cat the Vampire Slayer @ 02/18/2008 3:23 AM EST

To be perfectly honest, the clucking bunny doll has been out for at least 2 or 3 years. My mom got me the chocolate creme egg version back then. I'll never know why, though. As much as I like the chocolate creme eggs, it's the originals that I'm addicted to!

Posted by Jotenks @ 02/18/2008 4:24 AM EST

I'm in a bit of a bad mood tonight because I went to Denny's with a friend who was in drag, and some rednecks at the next table were harassing us. We managed to complain and get her meal for free, though. People are jerks.

Anyway, coming home to a new blog post cheered me up. I've never been much into Easter. Partly because I hate pastels and flowers and really girly stuff like that, and partly because my family always felt the need to boil two dozen eggs for like, three people to eat, so Easter always meant sitting on the porch all day eating eggs until you wanted to barf. And since we actually hid real eggs in the yard, if we only found 23 we knew there would be an egg rotting under the porch or something. Gross.

"Master of All Things Easter" doesn't sound like a highly coveted role to me. I mean, on the one hand it's way better than Master of Thanksgiving or Master of Arbor Day or something. But I'd definitely rather be Master of All Things Halloween. Or Kwanzaa. I want to be Master of Kwanzaa.

Does anyone out there know that Dino Pebbles cereal has been brought back? Well, it has. That great cereal from the late 80s to early 90s is back. BUT, they've changed it. It's now call Dino Smores Pebbles cereal. Not as many marshmallows like it's counterpart had, which ranked among the top 2 most marshmallows crammed per box of any cereal. Pac Man cereal held the ranking along with Dino Pebbles cereal. People go out there and buy the stuff.

Aww man. Not Easter. Not now. I am still recovering from E. Claire's Christmas and B-Day blitz.
What they say is 100% true: Holidays are all about spending money. They shouldn't be, but they are.
Enough of that. Not sure if I ever told you people but I have 2 pretty good Easter stories.
1. I was the Golden Egg Finder Champion 3 years running (K-2nd) at my elementary school.
2. One year, I hosted an egg hunt party at my house where I spent WAY TOO MUCH TIME painting plastic eggs into camoflague. Well, I participated in the egg hunt and found most of the eggs which made my friends mad. Their argument being, "Of course you would find most of the eggs, it's your home turf." All that time, blown up in my face. :(

I dunno, the word "Smores" being in the title scares me off.  I hate smores-flavored things.  They's nasty.

Speaking of Pebbles-related commercials, how many people have that Fruity Pebbles Christmas commercial permanently etched into their brains?  You know the one.  I swear to God they showed it at least 100 times a day.

I've always been a fan of opening sweet tarts, whenever I open them I look at them 1 by 1, and a large chunk of the time you get 2 of the same color.

I'm still waiting for the day when all 3 are the same color.

Easter has never been a big deal for us.  Oh sure, I did my share of Easter Egg Hunts and other stuff when I was little, but I only really have one memorable Easter memory.

One year, my mom hid stuff inside the house, but with our names on the stuff.  I got the old "Maniac Mansion." NES game that she hid above a picture frame.  I think I also got "A Boy and His Blob." that year also

Other than that, it's been nothing more than a mini-Thanksgiving, but with ham instead of turkey.  Plus, any excuse to gorge on candy is great.

Jazzy  OMG i luuuurvvved BSC books back in the day! Oh geez! I started on them in 3rd grade til about 8th.  WOO!  The one thing they ret-conned badly on….i forget which number book, somewhere in the 40 or 50's…Mary anne got a make over…and the slutty girl in school named Sabrina Bouvier thought Mary anne was cool…but any BSC fan worth their salt happens to know that Sabrina Bouvier was the winner in the Little Miss Stony Brook Pageant back in I think book 15?  So how did like a 7 yr old grow to be 15 in less than 3 years… >_>also I was'nt aware they had ghost writers…I thought that was only something that Francine Pascal did cause her lazy ass wanted all the Sweet Valley High glory.

Easter isn't overly a big deal. Good Friday is a set-aside 'Fish and Chips' night and the best part of Easter is cut price eggs afterwards. Though I loved the Galaxy Mini Eggs last year.

Guise: I remember our convo on Easter awhile ago, and now I remember your explaination of Easter as I write this.  Yeah, I'm still laughing.  XD  I take it we celebrate a ressurection holiday a might different.

I'm painting eggs in class for assignments, and we started in the first week of February, so I know what its like to start egg-related holidays wayyyyy to early.  I'm honestly tired of painting eggs and we still have to do 3 more. -_-

I know its probably been mentioned somewhere else, but I'm still pissed they made those damn cadbury eggs smaller.  "They're not smaller, you're just bigger."  Cadbury, if I had boy parts, I'd be telling you to suck them right about now.  XD

Posted by Dio and Lex @ 02/18/2008 12:21 PM EST

Easter is almost completely useless to me, like Valentine's Day. As I don't eat chocolate or gelatin, that kills off 99% of the candy I could conceivably consume. There's a few white chocolate rabbits I can eat, but that's about it. I don't care for the pastels either.

Posted by Frostor @ 02/18/2008 12:46 PM EST

Is there gelatin in tart candies?  You could always shove that into plastic eggs; I know they come in basic colors too.

And yes, they did retcon the BSC pretty bad. I never caught the Sabrina Bouvier thing, but I remember being really pissed that they changed the name of Mary Anne's mom from Abigail to Alma. Alma was a way better name, but still! You don't change the name of somebody's mom! It seemed like some of the characters' personalities changed slightly from book to book too.

EX: I did not have a birthday party when I was 11 or 12 but I brought it back for one last time when I turned 13 (a different kind of party too be sure but a party none the less).
Also, one last big toy Christmas when I was in 6th grade. Too old for toys but…

Manimal: I pretty much never stopped doing kid stuff when it comes to holidays and birthdays. I trick-or-treated this year, although I'm pretty sure it will be my last until I have kids of my own. Not because people didn't wanna make with the candy (we go to my best friend's neighborhood where nobody gives a shit), but because I found myself not even wanting to eat the candy once I'd gotten it. That's definitely a sign of being an adult. Next year I'm just gonna throw a party or something. Or curl up with a bottle of booze and watch Beetlejuice.

My friends and I still play on playgrounds occasionally too. I figure if you're under 25 and there's a big group of you doing it, you seem more immature than creepy. After that, though, it gets weird.

Manimal - I played with Barbies well into seventh grade, which might explain a bunch of social problems, but hey - I don't know anyone who doesn't have at least a few stories that start "I was too old for it, but…"
Besides, I can get behind the camo eggs. It's a rad idea.

Posted by Jessica Marie @ 02/18/2008 6:03 PM EST

Guise, I love how you take things in directions they have no buisiness going in.

As far as doing stuff you're way too old for, I have the first season and the first half of the second season of Transformers on DVD, and plan on getting the whole collection. And I have no problem with that.

Anybody else find it ironic that we're discussing stuff we're too old for in a blog post about a grown man buying a plush clucking bunny?

This is why I love this place XD We pretty much are all addicted to stuff we're too old for, with minimal shame. It's awesome. Now excuse me while I go watch Fraggle Rock and cuddle my Care Bears.

I have never really done anything big for my son for Easter.  I mean, not that doing anything TOO big is possible.  But I think this year I am going to put together a basket and hide eggs or something. Normally he just gets an Easter present because I have forgotten about it until literally the last minute.  But since I know all the stuff's out already, I might just get out there and buy it.

Posted by kb @ 02/18/2008 8:56 PM EST

I used to always get a new dress every Easter when I was a little girl.  Did anyone else have that tradition?  I also used to sing songs in church on Easter Sunday every year.  Church was fun back then.

FM: I sucked in air so fast I choked, then yelled, "HOLY CRAP".  That's a sweet piece of home appliance-ry.  O_O

DJ D: "Guise, I love how you take things in directions they have no buisiness going in."  XD That was a great quote.  SO going in my quote file.

I wanna do an egg hunt I don't think any of my friends are up for it. T_T  Maybe I'll just hide them for meself, then forget about them, so I can find them year round.

YES, I'm going to use plastic eggs, what kinda nutjob do you think I am?  Hey Matt, you totally should have saved that crazy Hitler chocolate for an egg hunt.  That would be super awesome in so many ways.  XD

Posted by Dio and Lex @ 02/18/2008 9:23 PM EST

Annette- I was too a new easter dress kind of girl.  And they were all frilly and accompanied with white shoes and sometimes even white gloves.  I wish we could still do that.  No one ever dresses up at church anymore…

But then again, I grew up in a conservative Baptist church and I'll bet if I went back for a visit it would be the same.  THey don't ever change much of anything there.

Dio and Lex and Dan, Yeah, he's like that one cousin that shows up to the family dinners and reunions that you get stuck talking to. Nicest guy in the world, but once you start talking to him, he says something inappropriate or weird and you're like, "Right, well nice to see you then. I'm going to get some more turkey. Take care, now."

I'll never forget that one Easter when my belief in the Easter Bunny came to an end. I was kind of having my doubts those last couple of years but playing along, and hoping that I was wrong. Then, I came downstairs and there was my Easter Basket sitting in the middle of the living room floor like every year. Propped up and poking out the top was a My Pet Monster. I'd wanted one for a couple of years and finally got it. I didn't think much about the fact that it wasn't in a box or anything, till I went into the kitchen and found the box it came in at the top of the trashcan. The jig was up.

Posted by DJ D @ 02/18/2008 11:33 PM EST

I only eat the Cadbury egg whites or Cadbury egg white substitutes because the rest of it will MAKE YOU DIE.

I want a clucking bunny. ;.;

Yeah, I just spent too much time staring at that photo It's just not blurry to me.

Posted by kb @ 02/19/2008 1:17 AM EST

I agree, I didn't think the pic was blurry until Matt pointed it out.

It's kind of blurry, but not really blurry. I can still read everything on the bag.

Posted by Invader Norbert @ 02/19/2008 2:36 AM EST

Those clucking bunnies aren't new, at least in the Cleveland area.  I had just about the same reaction as you did when I first saw them: total and complete joy.  They actually released three separate ones here, a brown "caramel" one, a dark brown "dark chocolate" one and the traditional white "regular" one.

The best part?  Each of them have different pitched clucks.  The caramel one is high pitched, if I recall correctly, and the dark brown one has a real low cluck like Barry White.  I should dig 'em out  and post pictures of them.  ^^

Posted by Anne Packrat @ 02/19/2008 5:03 AM EST

Speaking of blurry pictures, I think Matt's 1000th article should be an explanation of how to make your photography as awesome as his, because I have a damn hard time with mine. Not just the actual taking of pictures, but choosing backgrounds and angles, and how to take pictures of plastic stuff without hideous glare.

Okay, so maybe that's not very exciting for the big 1000. But hey, he's still gotta get through 25 more to hit that point, so it'd be a nice piece in the interim :)

Jazzy: What I usually do is step back farther than the shot u wanna take, then zoom.  The flash is diffused through the distance most of the time, but you really need to invest in a tripod at least so the camera doesn't jiggle and blur your shots.

I also used to get a new Easter dress when I was young, but I guess I grew out of it around 13.  I should just buy a new dress every Easter, but adult sizes don't usually have frilly lace.  ^^;;

easter memories…

last easter i went to visit my mom and sister… we had an easter egg hunt for my two nieces with real eggs they had colored (thankyou very much paas)… while i helped my sister to hide eggs she said something like "lets make a couple of them really hard to find!!" to which i of course agreed… one egg hunt and two hours later we realized that neither of us remembered where we hid the last egg… one week later we found it by following the smell…

Happy Birthday, Will!

Heh, my monitor blew yesterday morning and I've only just got an eye-burning CRT replacement, I come here and I feel the WUV! Thanks guys!

I do wonder whether the monitor gave up on me just because I was writing dating and romance advice at the time…

But, yes, now thanks to the technology of CRT monitors I can share all the pain my words may bring to your eyes. My eyes currently feel like Emil at the end of Robocop, or a de-shelled Cadbury Creme Egg on a hot engine.

JLAJRC:
Kermit vs Yoda.

They both have exactly the same fencing moves, but Kermit has a tendency to try to get his opponent nekkid in the process, or just for Tim Curry.

But Yoda never tried to get Christopher Lee to strip down to his Jar Jar Underoos, at least not on film. At least, not on film that hasn't been leaked to the major media outlets.

Hey, Dan and Candace…see that, I got all the way back to Dinky Dooku in a flawless segue!

Except for the Duck thing. Daffy wins, just cause Daffy's cool….well, unless he's up against Count Duckula. That's a hard call.

My face is red… It turns out that "Parker Lewis Can't Lose" came out in 1990, and lasted until 1993 - so the odds are that everybody here was at least alive while it was on the air - for some reason, I thought it was on the air in 1987, during my freshman year of college - but I know for sure that's when Beans Baxter was on.

kingklash, you short-circuited my brain with that R2/Crow matchup. If it's a physical confrontation, I think I'd have to give it to R2D2, but if we're rating sheer awesome…that's a tough call. Similarly high levels of awesome going on with the Mystie/Kitty matchup.

It's been cloudy on and off all day but it cleared up in time so I could watch the eclipse. Very neat. Moon looks like it's got a big bite taken out of it :D

Saw the eclipse, Regulus (heart of the lion constellation Leo), and Saturn (our lord of the rings XD), though the clouds got in the way for a bit.  It looked red for awhile, but then it just sorta disappeared, leaving a crescent shape behind like a fingernail.  It was really pretty; I'd never seen a total lunar eclipse.  We saw a shooting star too.  I totally forgot to do my homework. ^^;;

Teacher "Yes, however…"

Kid "An' I saw Saturn, lord of the rings, though the clouds got in the way for a bit, an' it looked red for awhile, but then it just sorta disappeared, an' it left a crescent shape behind, like a fingernail."

Teacher "That's very good, but…"

Dio, 'less-than-3' XD

Kingklash,
Witchblade beats Guyver,
Guyver turns on the light and beats Darkness
Darth Galvatron, because it sounds such a cool name

Here's some to ponder…
Guyver vs MacGyver!
Tron vs Jobe
MASK vs Monster Garage
VENOM vs Cobra
Unicron vs Unicorns
ED209 vs Johnny Five
Johnny Five vs Lou Bega
Panda vs Koala

I'm not entirely sure what you all are talking about, but in terms of Duck Superheroes there is also Count Duckula.

Posted by Anne Packrat @ 02/21/2008 3:18 PM EST

MacGyver would beat Guyver with a concoction of Mentos, Diet Coke and a paperclip.
Tron would win in a spectacular lightcycle race/duel.
MASK over Monster Garage because Matt Striker already has his vehicles made and could take out Jesse and his crew while they're still in production.
VENOM and Cobra would end in a draw because neither side could hit the other even though they are standing 10 feet apart.
Unicron over the unicorn although not before Unicron gets a nasty poke in his foot.
Johnny Five over both ED209 and Lou Bega. After dismantling ED209, Johhny Five shrink wraps Lou Bega to keep him from singing any songs and then tosses him onto the ED209 scrap heap.
And finally Koala over Panda just because of sheer numbers. In a one on one fight the Panda would rip up a piece of bamboo and beat the hell out of the koala but the koala would call in reinforcements and overwhelm the panda contingent.

Posted by Dan @ 02/21/2008 3:24 PM EST

Dan, I bet one-on-one the Koala would still give him a black eye or two

Posted by Guise @ 02/21/2008 3:38 PM EST

I was thinking that, it would depend on what would absorb what, the WitchBlade and Guyver's control metal.  Unless it was a woman with a Guyver Unit, you can't expect a C-M to absorb the 'Blade.  But I bet that Sara could assimilate a Unit with ease.  As for The Darkness power, that might be easy either way, but when the Bio-blaster is used, there would be problems, big flash of light and all.

Do we really know the true battle abilities of the koala?

I got my hands on some Cocoa Peeps Bunnies yesterday.  I'm not a big fan of regular Peeps, but the cocoa ones are delicious.

Witchblade could beat every male you can name simply because they would all be hypnotized by Sara's ENORMOUS chest.

Good point, the panda could just put one paw on the koala's forehead and hold it back while grabbing a piece of bamboo to treat it like a pinata.

JLAJRC, well, harkening back to a previous conversation I've had with some certain somebodies on here…

Sara's Breasts vs Power Girl's Breasts. Mammary Massacre at Brassiere Brawl 2008!

Posted by Guise @ 02/21/2008 4:57 PM EST

Guise: I'd still pick Sara's breasts for the simple fact that you can see more of hers while in costume than you can PG's.

Also, I bought a new item at the grocery store yesterday.  A&W Root Beer and Sunkist Orange Floats in glass bottles.  I just tried the Sunkist one and it is DELICIOUS.  It tastes like a melted orange creamsicle in a bottle.

Posted by JLAJRC @ 02/21/2008 5:13 PM EST

Powergirl's breasts are made for what we think they are, but Sara's are a bonus, since her series doesn't always hinge on the breasts themselves.  But I'd pick Sara's anyday sooo……^^;;

JLAJRC: Are you serious???  Orange creamsickle is my favorite flavor of anything.  O_O  I must have one….I don't care if I gave up soda for Lent!

Posted by Dio and Lex @ 02/21/2008 5:22 PM EST

Dio, I'm sure in one issue had her in the center pages with a staple in the valley of her chest…that issue certainly hinged on it.

It's fun, because right now I'm tripping in a GoogleChat timewarp.

Posted by Guise @ 02/21/2008 5:30 PM EST

Guise: I oughtta smack you for that….XD

Timewarp?  You mean its just a jump to the left?

Posted by Dio and Lex @ 02/21/2008 5:39 PM EST

Let's do the Time Warp Again!

YES.  We're awesome.

Posted by Dio and Lex @ 02/21/2008 6:23 PM EST

We are! XD

And, before anyone suggests it…No, I didn't predict that once Dio started others would singalong. I also was not biding my time waiting to get to the pelvic thrust bit. Would I do a thing like that?! ^^;;

Posted by Guise @ 02/21/2008 6:26 PM EST

Sure Guise, we believe you! ;)
But since we're doing it may as well go all out right?

There's only one other heroine I think can compete with Witchblade in boobage/costume sexiness, and that's Vampirella.

Dio: Yep, it did taste like an orange creamsicle.  I'll taste the root beer one tomorrow.

Dan, seeing that again brings two things to mind…
1) I want a coffin that doubles as a clock.
2) Brad and Janet at 3:57…strangely, people tend to do that to me sometimes.

JLAJRC, try this for a combo then Tarot, 3 Little Kittens, Latex Red, Satanic Schoolgirls…one comic : http://www.the-isb.com/?p=182

Oh, did I forget to mention Nuclear Bomb Breast Implants?

How about this: Who are the SCARIEST puppets?

HR Pufinstuf and gang vs. The Spitting Image Puppets.

For those not familiar with Spitting Image, you probably remember this VERY famous Genesis music video from the 80s.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=gBdUz_IJ4VA

I gotta go with Spitting Image for scariest.  The Sid/Marty Kroft were sorta charming, if a little freaky.

Posted by JLAJRC @ 02/21/2008 7:23 PM EST

JLAJRC, aw man…I grew up on Spitting Image. My brothers used to tape it because it was on late and I'd get to watch it before school. The only one who used to get to me was the spitting Roy Hattersley, just gross. I used to love Maggie vs The Queen for most powerful woman in the UK.

Posted by Guise @ 02/21/2008 7:56 PM EST

I have no idea who Johnny Five or Lou Bega are, but all you gotta do to beat an ED209 is knock him on his back, or force him to walk down stairs…"Put down your weapon. Do you comply!"

I would normally say Power Girl has the superior topside, but you guys have made some compelling arguments for Sara, so I'll side with you. She's got the better costume, that's for damn sure. I don't trust any woman who looks like that and has those kinds of powers at her disposal. As for Vampirella, what costume? Not that I'm complaining…

Has anyone played the Darkness game yet? I'm probably getting a PS3 soon and looking forward to that one.

Gotta go with Spitting Image over HR Pufinstuf. I used to be really creeped out over that Genesis video.

Ok, so I know I've been "The Boy Who Cried Goth Radio" over the last 2 weeks, but I pinky swear all to hell that my show is returning to the airwaves TONIGHT. Starts around 2am (eastern). It's called Dark Entries, and you can listen to it streaming at: http://wusc.sc.edu. Not only is it my triumphant return to the airwaves after being off for over a year, but I'll be doing the Anti-Valentine's Day show that I was planning on doing last week. Loads of creepiness and heartache.

Fraggle Rock vs. The Smurfs
Fraggle Rock vs The Keebler Elves

Muppet Babies vs. Pup named Scooby Doo vs. Tom and Jerry Kids vs. Flinstone Kids vs. Tiny Toon Adventures vs. Looney Tune Babies vs. Drawn Together Babies vs. Seinfeld Babies.

ALL of the South Park kids vs. every kid at Springfield Elementary

Posted by JLAJRC @ 02/21/2008 8:49 PM EST

I would normally go with Fraggle Rock, but those hippies couldn't get their act together as much as The Smurfs can. Now that's a study in organization.

Fraggle Rock beats Keebler Elves just cause they would raid the Elf trees looking for snacks after having the muchies all day. In their snacking frenzy, they would prolly just end up eating Elves too.

As for your multiple babies matchup, I don't really care as long as somebody beats the tar out of Scrappy Doo. I think we've all been waiting for that for a long time.

I'm going with the Springfield Elementary kids over South Park cause the South Park kids can't get their shit together long enough to pull anything off. Plus, Bart's pretty crafty.

Oh yeah, THAT Johnny Five! Holy crap, I totally just forgot his name. No, OF COURSE I know who that is. Feel free to line up and smack me in the face to straighten me out, a la the scene in Airplane! (IMO the funniest movie ever made).

Man, I really do "need imput".

Oh on a side note, I totally saw the lunar eclipse last night. It was all red/brownish. Really cool.

So who the hell's Lou Bega?

I'm watching Golden Girls and for some reason I feel the need to tell Matt.

Posted by Bill @ 02/22/2008 2:05 AM EST

Oh, Mystie. I really hope you get better. I've had a little touch of something myself the last couple of days. Some throat thing. I might sound a little funky on the air on my radio show tonight. I still say you can kick Hello Kittie's ass any day of the week, flu or not. Break out some nail polish, strap that bitch down, and give her a makeover. Then post it on Crown Combo for everyone to see. Keep in mind, this doesn't make up for the blasphemy of what you did to Optimus Prime, but I'm rooting for you anyway.

God, I hate people who triple post…

Bill! Oddly enough, so am I. I'm about to walk out to door to head out to the studio but I was just sitting here watching Frasier while I was eating my late dinner, and the Girls came on next. Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks of Matt when  Golden Girls comes on. Luckily, I don't make a point of watching it on a regular basis. Why do I have a sneaking suspicion this is all going to accrue in my subconcious and tonight I'm going have some weird dream involving Mystie getting into an anime style fight that lasts for 3 days with Hello Kitty, followed by something called "Golden Girls Gone Wild" (shudder) guest starring creepy (one might say macabre) vegetables.

Posted by DJ D @ 02/22/2008 2:14 AM EST

DJD! We are watching the same channel! yeah, i think that's cool.

Posted by Bill @ 02/22/2008 2:33 AM EST

Hey kids, I just got back from the studio a little while ago and knocked out my first show after being off the air for a year or so. You can do the clicky deal on my name to check out my blog and see the playlist. That is, if you're into the spooky music.

DJ D, Lou Bega is the guy who did 'Mambo No. 5'.

Garbage Pail Kids vs. Madballs
Gizmo vs. Orbity
The aliens from  "Batteries Not Included" vs. Tim "The Toolman" Taylor with Bob Villa as the referee.

Did everyone else get buried in this snowstorm?  I know to people in Canada or the Great Lakes region, seven inches might not seem like much snow, but for us in New Jersey, it's plenty, considering we had close to 70 F temperatures last week!

BTW, today's riddle/limerick of the day:
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Posted by JLAJRC @ 02/22/2008 3:49 PM EST

JLAJRC
The average amount of wood a woodchuck would chuck in a given day is 32 butt cords of wood. XD

Posted by Dan @ 02/22/2008 4:13 PM EST

In the case of Johnny 5 vs Bender, if it was a dirty joke telling contest, Bender would win, but for any kind of physical confrontation, I'm going with Number 5 - he has his military training plus his encyclopaedic knowledge.

Tim Taylor vs Red Green

Posted by kingklash @ 02/22/2008 4:44 PM EST

XD  Dance party.  roflrofl  Ah, what a runaway train dance parties, Youtube addictions, and VS matches this has become.  I, alas, cannot think of any off the top of my head.  I would like to offer this food for thought:
Instead of this VS that, why not combine them together?
Example:
Dante of Devil May Cry and Leon from Resident Evil.  Take the awesome battle system and control scheme of DMC, and combine it with gang ups from masses of enemies and neat survival horror puzzles.
This equates, of course, to RESIDENT DEVIL.  I would pay $60 to play that.  ^^
Johnny 5 dancing to Mambo No. 5, backed up by the Solid Gold Dancers.
Cool Cat and Chester Cheetah launching a Cheetos revolution.  That's hip, daddio.
Ok.  Time to stop before my brain explodes.

Posted by Dio and Lex @ 02/22/2008 4:52 PM EST

JLAJRC: One or infinite…this is because after one it's not a question of how much it would chuck if it could, but becomes an issue of how much wood is it capable of chucking within a given length of time and supply of said wood. If the amount and time is said to be unlimited, then the answer is also unlimited. This is of course assuming that the woodchuck has a non-ending lifecycle.

Guise…  you're talking crazy.  It all comes down to genus.  Spruce could certainly be chucked more efficiently than say maple.  It's a matter of density and hardness (as most things are… am I right fellas??!!)

Posted by Fungusmungus @ 02/22/2008 5:50 PM EST

I am so late coming to this party but at least I am here now.  Life has been hectic as life tends to get!

I almost pee'd myself when I saw the Potato Head Bunny Rabbit.  I actually did a double take and decided I am going to have to go buy one.  HE HAS FUZZY STUFF ON HIS HEADBAND!!!  OMFG!!!

While I am there I will also stop to pick up the clucking bunny because Easter is not Easter without a clucking bunny my friends.

As for the Golden Egg…I am only buying one if it comes with the goose.  Gooses, geeses…I want a goose that lays gold eggs for Easter.  I don't care how!  I want it now!  :-)

Oh my, I am getting giddy just thinking about all the fun I am going to have at TRU tonight.

Absolutely!  Deciduous hardwoods are much denser, and, hence, heavier, than their coniferous brethren.

I just got done drinking the A&W Root Beer Float.  It's good, but nowhere near as good as the Sunkist one from yesterday.  It basically tasted like a vanilla root beer cream soda.  I'd drink it again if they started putting it in cans, though.
