JoshC, Wow, I had no idea you were in Newfoundland. At my old job last year, a big chunk of our business came from French speaking areas of Canada and I was one of the 2 French reps there who handled those clients. I've found Canadian French to be fairly hard to understand because of the dialect and accent compared to "French" French. Actually, the other French rep was a guy who was Haitian so it was his first language. I understood every word he said. The Canadians were another thing altogether.

Cod Tounges? I had no idea they had tounges. What's Brewis? I guess since you guys are on an island and all, fish would be a big staple. Down here in the south, we're big into BBQ, loads of fried food, and of course sweet tea.

Yeah, we're a real bunch of health nuts down here.

Hey guess what, Hillary Clinton's in town today! I just missed her. I got off work this morning and was on my way home and as soon as I hit downtown I had to re-route myself because some of the streets were closed off to herd the crowd. Apparently, her big rally had just ended and everyone was leaving. I think she's coming back into town later in the week though. She'll be in Myrtle Beach tomorrow. (about 3 hours from here). Obama was here last night. I was at work then too. I'd like to go to one of these things even if it's not for the candidate I'm planning on voting for just to say I was there and possibly met one of them. For the record, I have no idea who I'm leaning toward yet. I usually don't figure it out till much closer to the election. It's cool living in a primary state though. Every 4 years the shit goes down.

Looks like we got another article up now, this time about Mumm-Ra! Dang my Cloverfield paranoia (Clovernoia?). I'm still scared to check it out for fear of Clover-spoilage spillover from the previous chat. Saturday can't come fast enough.

Marzipan is that disgusting bit between icing and cake. Marzipan is like edible Play-doh, and they make sweets just out of marzipan shaped in to things. It's mostly sugar and almond paste.

I really dig American mustard and put it all over my hotdogs and hamburgers. I like French a lot too, as long as it's not too hot. English, I just can't take. It's useful if you're trying to wake up really early in the morning. I do like celery though, especially with peanut butter. I have no idea what marzipan is. Can someone explain? I suppose I could wiki it, but that wouldn't be near as fun, and I just can't be bothered.

Hey, JoshC, welcome to exile island! All non-Cloverfield spoiling guests are welcome. This week we're covering such illuminating topics as:

-Dodgy Limey/Kiwi veggie spreads
-DJ D's crazy food pickiness
-English paint stripping condiments
-Lists with dashes preceding each entry
-And whatever the hell marzipan is

DJ D, just this weekend I did an experiment on mustard types: French and Dijon, American and English.

It was educational, and now when I see movies when they slather mustard over hotdogs I can understand why there isn't a scene with head explosions.

French = Added Flavour, mild hotness. Works great with steak.
American = Added Sweetness, slight bite but more comparable to a toothless baby suckling a finger. Works with burgers.
English = Clears sinuses, waters eyes. Works with stripping wallpaper.

I won't eat celery or marzipan, I absolutely can't stand it.

Sounds disgusting.

We're going to see Cloverfield this coming Sat. instead, so I've got really just 3 days to worry about it. I say that because for 3 days this week I'll be working at my second job with guys who were super excited about it and saw it at the midnight showing on Thursday night. If I can get them to shut up about it, I won't have anything to worry about. That'll be probably Mon, Tues, and Wed. I'll probably have Thursday off and don't really have plans to go anywhere where I'm going to be around many people anyway. Nobody's really talking about it at my primary job on Friday (plus I sit at the desk with headphones on all day anyway), then I'll see it on Sat. If I can just make it to Thursday, I'll be good. Come Saturday night I'll be all over the Cloverchat.

What else can we talk about? Any other weird foods? When I was in the UK I developed a taste for bangers and mash. I tried to duplicate it when I got back here, but you just can't find those kind of sausages here anywhere. I need to get in touch with my UK friends again and see if I can find out what brands we ate over there. Good stuff. I ate a lot of fish and chips too, which I kind of liked anyway, even before I went over there. Anybody else into to some different, or just really odd foods? Personally, I'm actually very picky. It's not what I do eat that's weird, it's all the stuff I won't that is. While I'm at it, here's a list of stuff I won't touch at all:

-Mayonnaise or anything with mayo in it
-Cheese (a tiny bit of mozarella on pizza is ok, but I'll pick it off if it's too much, but will not eat any other kind of cheese at all)
-onions
-peppers
-eggs
-sweet potatoes
-sour cream
-cherries
-pickles
-olives
-ranch dressing or anything ranch flavored
-any dressing except for italian/vinagerette, or anything similar--won't eat anything creamy
-oatmeal
-grits
-greens--turnip or collards
-beer

I'm sure there are others but I can't think of them right now.
