My dying wish is for an owl/camel hybrid, which I call camowl.

Bye, 2007.

And so marks the last thread of 2007. Use it wisely. Personally, I was not a fan of 2007. I liked 2006 better, and I hope I'll like 2008 better. 2008 is a cool-sounding year. Sounds...futuristic.

Got a resolution? Share it. Got a POV on the year that was? Share it. Rather just comment on how the dead tree outside your house kind of looks like a giant monster paw? I don't mind. It's just a thread. But it's the last one with "2007" next to your comments. Is it hard to say goodbye to a number? Probably not. Maybe next year, though. Like I said, "2008" sounds cool. I will grow to love it.

I like alot of grindy stuff more these days though.. i.e, the locust, dropdead..etc.

Kneg. I added you on AIM, I think, took me hours just to get it up and running.

Got me 3 legendaries, woot.

Kneg, threaded systems are love…except on WordPress, where they seem to be the Devil’s SSF’ed Waiterbetty…fairly cheap to come by when in desperate need of satisfaction, easy to lay down in a bedded format, but rather ugly to look at.

Josh

I agree on what you said about Metallica, their late work just sucks for the most part. Do you also like Melt Banana?

I don’t care much for Cradle of Filth, but I do like “Nymphetamine Fix”.

My msuic preference is a little mixed and matched. Cannibal Corpse, Pink Floyd, Foundations, Aerosmith, Foo Fighters, Scorpions (I love 80-90s rock), Skid Row, Queen, Jim Croce, Bob Seger, Snot, Pixies, Blue’s Traveler, Alice Cooper, just to name a small number of my too many favs, as well as modern and classical composers (example, Michael Giacchino), amient work (Enigma), classic country, and very, very little rap (Vanilla Ice (yes, I actually like Vanilla Ice, old Dre, Snoop, Ice Cube, Biggie, and little else).

nork: Yeah i do, Havent heard alot of melt bannana but from what ive got(a couple of splits) they’re really good.
And alot of your faves happen to make up most of my cd collection, plus everything from From First To Last to T.V on the radio And the human abstract.
Saw Alice Cooper live last spring, best show I’ve been to yet.

Chestnuts roasted by JoshC @ 01/08/2008 3:48 PM

I only like flavor of the month bands and contestants from American Idol.

Chestnuts roasted by dohopoki @ 01/08/2008 3:56 PM

Melt Banana is just nuts.

I saw Alice Cooper for the second time this past September, first time being about 1 year before that. Alice Cooper would be ranked in my top 5 favorites of all time.

I remember growing up and going on typical family-of-5 minivan road trips across the country and instead of listening to “The Wheels on the Bus” my dad has Alice Cooper’s “Welcome To My Nightmare” album going.

I can’t check it since Myspace is blocked at work (which you guessed it, is where I am), but I may have a blog with some pics posted of the Alice Cooper show I caught just a few months ago.

If you type Emo into X-E’s search engine, you get pages of my posts.

Try it. I dare you.

Vey few of Metallica can please my ears, save for the very VERY early stuff where thet still sound kind of unsure how METAL is supposed to sound, therfore sounding rough and thrashy without any hint of “You guys are gonna eat this up even if it’s shit” pretentiousness. I can easily say they did lay the groundwork for the genre. Once Cliff went byebye- All sense of creativity and in a sense, quality just went out the window. The only time I hear Metallica nowadays is on the radio- and fortunately the play “Jump in the Fire” which you just can’t HELP but get rowdy on.

And yes, Slayer is awesome. In fact I like Araya’s voice more, now that he has gotten older. There is a beauty in uncontrollable noise, but there is an UNDENIABLE beauty in a voice that is crafted out of over 20 years of Vocal work.

and- I’ve geeked.
woo.

Kneg: I accepted your dare, and yes, its true, Along with a bunch of posts from when knacks went Emo.
You like The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus??

Chestnuts roasted by JoshC @ 01/08/2008 4:13 PM

I heard that single of theirs about abuse. That’s about it.

Chestnuts roasted by Knegative @ 01/08/2008 4:35 PM

Is that “Freedom Rock”, man?

Well, turn it up!

Seriously, though, Little Brother’s sister-in-law knew Pantera when they were still playing the small halls in Texas, way back when.

Nork: I like it when people (especially guys) will freely admit to liking both metal and Enigma. Hats off to you, good sir.

Of my 15,000+ mp3s, 95% will be classic rock, metal, monster ballads, and anything in between, with that other 5% consisting of absolute random stuff, like Blondie, Madonna, Tatu, Men At Work, Luther Vandross, etc, as well as serenity soundtracks (example, Pure Moods), nature soundtracks, Chinese traditional orchestra, and a large chunk of that 5% consisting of Native American tribal music, powwows, flutes, ghost dances, etc. I love my Indian music.

When I first saw Anselmo with big hair After only seeing him with a shaved head I couldnt help but laugh.
Ahh Pantera were damn good..

Chestnuts roasted by JoshC @ 01/08/2008 5:39 PM

Yeah, eclectic is definitely the way to go. Having DJ’d Goth/Industrial stuff almost exclusively for so long, it can be easy to get bogged down in one genre of music, but the good thing about goth is that it encompasses so many sub-genres. On my show and at gigs, I try to play a good mix of ethereal, darkwave, gloom metal, death rock, synth-pop, industrial, ebm, and a little of everything in between. All the bands kind of appeal to the same crowd, but they all sound totally different.

As for my own personal taste, I’m all over the map. I listen to all of the above as well as thrash and black metal, prog (something I’m getting more and more into lately), classic rock, blues, old country, and lately my newest obsession is The Carpenters. Why I didn’t discover them sooner I’ll never know. Maybe now I’m just old enough to properly appreciate them, but I can’t get enough of it. Just about the only thing I can’t stand is newer country and rap/hip-hop. I just can’t stomach the stuff.

Hey, wasn’t there word yesterday that we were getting a new blog entry today? If so, I guess it would be the first official new article of the year. I guess you could include this one, but it’s more of a “saying goodbye to ’07/retrospective” kind of thing. I’m looking forward to some new content to talk about.

Personally- I’m a pretty dedicated metalhead. Doom,Death,Thrash… The only one I’m sketchy about is BlackMetal and only becuase I haven’t sampled enough to make a decision.
I’m not a big fan of the newer stuff- Three Inches of Blood is my newest love, Mostly cause of that old-school vibe.
But I ALSO love old school britpunk, rockabilly, Old Country, Bluegrass and… Lounge Music. I profess a love for Frank Sinatra that my BF thinks is a sacrelige.

Chestnuts roasted by kittymao @ 01/08/2008 6:58 PM

I love three inches of blood kittymao, deadly sinners is probably my favourite song of last year.

Chestnuts roasted by Joshc @ 01/08/2008 7:35 PM

Deadly Sinners came out in 2004, I think. That’s when I got into 3 Inches Of Blood, anyway. They’re from Vancouver and play Seattle pretty much monthly. Missed them the last time around, though I think they’re playing here again this week. Not 100% sure.

Anybody into Cradle Of Filth?

Chestnuts roasted by Chris Martin @ 01/08/2008 7:44 PM

I love a pretty wide variety of music. My hard drive is largely split between classic rock (mostly The Beatles and Queen) and synthpop, but I have quite a bit of new age Pure Moods type stuff, some classical, assorted pop and rock music, etc.

DJ D: Can you recommend me some good goth music? I love the stuff when I hear it, but I usually am in a club or something and not aware of what it is I’m hearing. Beyond stuff like The Cure and Siouxsie, and some “darker” music that isn’t strictly goth, like Rammstein and Depeche Mode, I don’t have much. I definitely have a preference for the more 80s/synth type stuff.

Chestnuts roasted by jazzy @ 01/08/2008 7:59 PM

In November I saw 3IB with GWAR- quite a great show. I try to see GWAR when i can.
As for Cradle of Filth, I don’t have much to say. I haven’t heard enough to build a reputable opinion- again, me and Blackmetal are not exactly friends. My knowledge in that area extends to Dimmu Borgir, Venom, Emperor and Mayhem. Which I find to be barely tolerable- save for Venom. Venom’s awesome- I used to alternate between them, Danzig 4 and Rammstein’s Mutter during my dark phase in College.

DJD – As the other comic nerd, it does look like DC is heading toward another Crisis and some of it ties into the ongoing Death of the New Gods saga. Essentially, it’s not looking to good for some of the heroes in the DCU.

Not sure if you’ve been following the Spider-Man storyline at all, but Joe Q. is hard at work destroying the past twenty years of Spidey continuity, so Marvel has that awfulness going for them right now.

What are they doing to Spidey? The last I read was the whole unmasking/Aunt May getting shot deal

Chestnuts roasted by Dan H @ 01/08/2008 10:27 PM

DJD – (Spoilers Ahead) They’ve actually had Spidey running around the whole Marvel Universe looking for a way to save his Aunt May. After being rejected by basically anyone I thought could help, Mephisto offers Peter a deal – his marriage for his Aunt May’s life. After some thinking on the subject, Mary Jane takes the lead and accepts the deal. However, both parties have to agree. When Peter accepts, Mephisto makes a whole bunch of changes. Aunt May is now fully healthy, Peter is now an unmarried “down on his luck” loser crashing at his Aunt May’s place, Harry Osborn is alive again and Spidey has returned to his original mechanical web shooters. Also, Marvel is stating that all of the previous stories still occurred but Peter and MJ never got married and no one remembers them being married. O, and the big Civil War event where Spidey unmasked? No one remembers the real identity of Spider-Man, even heroes like Daredevil who have known for some time.
