My dying wish is for an owl/camel hybrid, which I call camowl.

Cranberry Splash and Christmas Care Bears.

I'm extremely pleased to confirm the return of Sierra Mist Cranberry Splash, which debuted last year and was automatically accepted by my committee-of-one into the pantheon of special edition holiday sodas worthy of word-of-mouth gushing and marble notebook sticker tributes.

I rarely if ever actively choose a soda from the lemon-lime branch, but the addition of cranberry (even artificial cranberry) turns this into something I'd consider calling "wicked" if fucking Weasel Ron didn't ruin the word for me. It's so good. I usually have to rely on my holiday spirit to get through these seasonal offerings, but this stuff is worth stockpiling in an empty cupboard for use in late June.

With its green packaging and 100% "Christmas Red" soda color, this is an absolute must for anyone seeking to boost their spirit by way of carbonated beverages. There's even a diet version, which I don't recall seeing last year. Everything about it makes me happy, and while soda technically shouldn't be able to stir such strong emotions, I find myself at peace knowing that it'll be at least two months before Cranberry Splash becomes hard to find. If anything I write between now and New Year's Eve seems cracked out and jittery, this soda will be the reason.

One of our local pharmacies is especially awesome as it relates to carrying random holiday decorations/candy/blahblah, and a few nights back, we turned what was supposed to be a routine contact lens fluid pickup into a shopping spree. The woman did a comical double-take when she spotted the three Care Bears "Holiday Friends" shown above, and though they're usually the kind of thing we'd look at for a minute before buying something cheaper and less cutesy, the store had mispriced them at $2.49 each. They're supposed to cost eight bucks each, and even rung up as such, but the manager decided to honor what the price stickers said. He likely belt-whipped the employee responsible after we left, or at least, that's how the story ends in the big budget film I plan to produce based on this experience.

"Cheer Bear" is clearly the leader of the trio with his (her?) kickass reindeer getup. The other two are just bears in hats, but Cheer Bear vies to be two animals in one, like a Wuzzle. Wuzzles are at least slightly more appropriate for scribes-with-sacs to be writing about, so he (she?) makes me feel okay with this level of coverage.

Fun Fact: Spellcheck tells me that "mispriced" isn't a real word. Who knew?

The cranberry splash is great with vodka (and a little peach schnapps to drown the vodka sting). At a Halloween party I over did it on the stuff and now I don’t think I’ll ever be able to drink it again – damn cause it so good too (with and without vodka)

I’ve had a hard time letting go of Halloween, in fact I’m having a little Friday night party to have some friends come over and help unstake the graves in the front yard…time to let go.

Anyway, thanks to your recipes (which basically consist of ‘get some Sierra Mist Cranberry ‘n pour some Vodka in it’) I’ll be able to get everybody ready for the next two months of Holiday goodness.

I was just talking about Sierra Mist Cranberry Splash! I said to my best friend like remember that um soda? And he said yes and I said I hope it’s coming back. We only got one case but we shall get more this year. Especially because it’s in diet now. And some of that vanilla spice egg nog that is the shit right there hands down best egg nog eva. I also agree the class is neat, I like the texture. It’s very photogenic (I think that is one of my favorite words now, I use it a lot)

I got a early christmas present this year from my best friend. Aiptek a hd 720p camcorder and a 2gb flash memory card for it. I paid half for the card though. Sweet! Just what I have needed for my youtube uploading addictions.

people who don’t make the blog a daily stop, and were under the impression that the site hadn’t been updated for a month.

Such people exist?
There’s a main page?

Ha ha! Holiday Spice Pepsi. I love Christmas everything and I bought it and spit it out after tasting it. It was tremendous fun all season to keep it til March and use it on unsuspecting friends. “Hey, want some soda?” “Sure” (Hands HS to them) “Thanks, I (sip) Oh god, what is this? WHY DO YOU HATE ME?” Haahahahahah.

A man with terror claws has got to have a little evil ya know.

Fun fact: I found a full set of those Batman Forever mugs at a local thrift store for 50 cents a pop a few months ago, but the fact that I already had them coupled with the desire to limit the amount of clutter in my house forced me to leave them for someone else…hopefully some kindred spirit who’d recognize the value of the find instead of an old lady nabbing them to soak her dentures in.

Warr Acres will put you close around to almost whatever you want. You’re somewhat familiar with the area, right? It’s by Wiley Post Airport, just past (West) of where all the kiddos drive their cars back and forth all night.

Oklahomans

I posted this in an older blog, but it was just before Matt posted a new one, so I’m not sure if you all got the chance to see it. But, Braum’s has had their egg nog for over a week now. I know you can find other brands, but I find no others compare.

I forgot to answer your other question. I’m not sure of any smaller, local bookstores, as I buy my books off Amazon and other sites, but I can tell you there are at least 1 Barnes and Noble and 1 Borders within about 5 miles up on Northwest Expressway.

so….i fucking love cranberry splash… you guys will probably kill me for this, but i have always had some sort of thing against pepsi….perhaps i had a bad experience as a child. also, one time when i was still a server, some piece of white trash asked if we had any “sahara mist” i still laugh about it. on another note, i believe that around here canada dry (the gingerale) also had a cranberry flavored entry into the holida soda market last year, and although i love the mist, i liked the canada dry version even more. P.S. it snowed here yesterday and today, and i definitely squealed like a 4 year old and said “YAAAAY CHRISTMAAAAASSSSS!!!!”

seems i was so excited about the cranberry that i forgot the final a in my name. cant resist the mist

 I NEEEEED those Care Bears! TRU has the regular sized, anniversary Swarovski Crystal/Sterling Silver accented Bears, but they aren’t really something you’d wanna take out of the box… or give to a 2 year old niece (as I had the fleeting thought of doing.) So, these are a much better bet. So cute! :D

Chestnuts roasted by Ryane @ 11/08/2007 12:39 AM

Oh man, Cranberry Canada Dry is most second-favorite soda ever (right after Vanilla Coke). And being a proper Southerner, I can’t in good conscience purchase anything from PepsiCola.

…And it’s not Christmas yet. We still have Thanksgiving, which is always fun (and, for me at least, less of a let-down than Christmas). And I still have finals to get through. It is NOT Christmas.

But, I do love the Care Bears. They’re adorable and bring back fond memories of my childhood.

Chestnuts roasted by Vanilla Fire @ 11/08/2007 12:53 AM

My girlfriend wants that Swarovski Crystal/Sterling Silver Care Bear. And it wouldn’t be coming out of its box for as long as I live.

I’ve nearly gotten her all the way converted over to my Mint In Sealed Box lifestyle…

I still have half of the Batman mug collection and vow I will one day get round to obtaining the other half. My favorite cup/glass thing is a Ms. Pac Man glass mug that I drink out of just about every day.

Man, after reading this it looks like I’ve got a new soda for the weekend….with vodka of course. Speaking of Jones soda, I had my first Jones soda ever the other day thanks to Target’s after-Halloween markdown. I got a 4-pack of the small cans of “Gruesome Grape”, and it was great! I wish I would have stocked up and gotten more, and tried some of the other flavors they had there. I just couldn’t bring myself to get the licorice though. That just sounds foul. Looking forward to the new X-Mas flavors. Thanks X-E (and X-E’ers) for the heads-up on Jones. I prolly never would have tried it otherwise.

I too was once a main page glancer, and thus missed out on a lot of small articles and chat. Never more.

Hey Leigha, I think you mentioned something in the last thread about checking out the old Advent calander articles. Where can a brother find them? I’ve never read any of them and am new to the whole Advent thing. I’d like to check them out and read them all in order before the new one starts. I need to find out who Knacks, Kuse, and Mare are so I know what the hell everyone’s always going on about.

Vanilla Fire: What part of the south are you in?

Oop, sorry for the potential double post, but I got one more question for anyone: When/where was the X-Mas Jukebox posted or linked up? I got the Halloween one which was totally rad, but totally missed the X-Mas one. Should I just do a search for it or is there a link on the main page that I’m not seeing?

Chestnuts roasted by DJ D @ 11/08/2007 2:05 AM

I love Ron! He’s my absolute 2nd or 3rd favorite Harry Potter character…oh hell who am I kidding. I can’t rank Harry Potter characters based on likeability, my favorites are my favorites. They’re tied.

You say you can’t bare to use the phrase “wicked” because it’s been ruined for you; well my family is sick of me saying “bloody hell.” I can’t say I blame them since I’m not british, and it just doesn’t fly well with my hillbilly accent.

I think I’ll try this Cranberry Splash pop. I’m not a big fan of cranberry, but artifical cranberry might be alright.

Chestnuts roasted by iAMYou @ 11/08/2007 2:08 AM

DJ D:

You talking about that Ms. Pac Man mug thing forced me over to eBay to look for it. No dice. Consider my curiosity piqued…

Chestnuts roasted by Jerrod @ 11/08/2007 2:09 AM

Jerrod – I’m not sure if you knew, but there are actually 2 of those Care Bears. :D There’s a white one and a Pink one. I thought the pink one was a TRU exclusive, but I’m not sure now – I swore I saw the sticker on the box, but the other night while looking at it again, I didn’t see the exclusive thing, so I dunno. Maybe I was just delirious. :)

Chestnuts roasted by Ryane @ 11/08/2007 2:40 AM

DJ D: I’m from TN. It would probably be a more legitimate claim if I lived in Georgia, but I stand by it.

And now I really wish I had been into Batman when “Batman Forever” came out. I’m ashamed to admit that it’s my favorite of the Batman movies, tied with the 1966 “Batman: The Movie,” due to the fact that my local channels showed basically nothing else on Saturday afternoons/nights. I really want those mugs now.

Chestnuts roasted by Vanilla Fire @ 11/08/2007 2:44 AM

DJ: All three of the X-E jukeboxes are actually on every page of the blog! :) Just scroll up and look at the column on the right…eventually, you’ll find the jukes.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 11/08/2007 2:44 AM

DJ D: Click the Jukebox with the Santa hat on it. It’s on the blog right column.

Chestnuts roasted by Bill @ 11/08/2007 2:44 AM

Holy crap! I haven’t seen the pink one yet at all…I was there just this evening, but I don’t prowl around that part of TRU much. Decisions, decisions…

Chestnuts roasted by Jerrod @ 11/08/2007 2:47 AM

Oh, and the phrases “wicked” and “bloody hell” actually ruined movie-Ron for me.
