10/26/2007: You say ClamAto, I say Clamahto, let’s put the shit in beer.
It’s always good to keep an open mind, especially when you’re about to drink beer mixed with Clamato.

New
Cheladas from Anheuser-Busch dare even the most filthy whitebread Americans to embrace their inner Latin soul. Mixing either Budweiser or Bud Light beer with Clamato, it’s twenty-four fluid ounces of liquid heck.
Finding its origins in the elsewhere-popular Michelada cocktail (which began using less-offensive tomato juice before slowly embracing the clam), they’re definitely testing some rough waters by trying to market this stuff in places like…well, where I live. Even more incredible is that I found the cans not in my supermarket’s alcohol section, but in a big plastic bin in the chip aisle. What the hell were cans of beer + Clamato doing in the chip aisle?! I can only imagine that their placement had something to do with the supermarket manager theorizing that stoners raiding the place for chips at 1 AM would be the only possible clientele for cans of beer + Clamato.

It smells just like regular Budweiser without many hints of clammy goodness, but the color…my God, the color! Like carbonated Sharkleberry Fin Kool-Aid, only it’s not Kool-Aid…it’s BEER…and CLAMS!
To tell you the truth, I wanted to like it. It’s bullshit chic, and that’s up my alley. A little foreign class in a can. But…I don’t like it. Not one bit. It’s not so bad that you have to spit it out and scream an expletive in some exaggerated comedic fashion, but once you know what it tastes like, every subsequent sip takes the same kind of pre-game gusto one must muster before downing some really awful tasting cold medicine. Not that it tastes like cold medicine, mind you. It doesn’t. As advertised, it tastes like beer and Clamato mixed together. Peanut butter and jelly have no need to worry; they remain the standard.
Then again, to be fair, it’s obvious that something as brazen and new as this has got to be an acquired taste. It took me a good fifteen years to consider even regular beer as more than just “dirty sock water,” so perhaps, with time and grueling practice, I could come to appreciate Cheladas much in the same way that I appreciate all of the other drinks that make M*A*S*H reruns so much funnier. Just wish there was a little more incentive for acquiring this particular taste. It’s not like there’s a bunch of classmates hoarding around me, telling me I’ll be less of a man if I don’t drink it.
I’m not quite ready to rule this one out as the most disgusting thing ever, but I have strange tastes. You’ll probably think it is, which is why I can only suggest buying a Chelada if you’re one of those weirdos who likes to display oddball cans on a bookcase shelf. I put mine right next to the bottle of 7 Up Gold. They’re buddies now.
PS: Don’t make fun of my tablecloth. We had family over last weekend. Family calls for floral print.

Okay, now I’ve read the entry.
That sounds reeeeaaaally disgusting, Matt. WHAT were they thinking, trying to sell Beermato Juice?!? Ugh…
Btw, nice tablecloth.
Just kidding, it’s not that bad. I think I’d rather consume IT than the stuff on top of it, lol.

I’ve never had Clamato before. Is it really nasty? I don’t think my curiosity is strong enough to try it.
This is slightly off-topic, but did you know they make (made?) a clamato energy drink? I saw some at Big Lots a couple of months ago. I thought of getting a can, but decided against spending what little money I had on something that sounds repulsive. Just imagine putting that [the Clamato energy drink] into a mix drink or combining it with beer–could that create a substance capable of destroying all life?

It’s really more of a Mexican thing. In the liquor store where I work part time those things sold out the first time they arrived about 6 months ago. I guess they saw they really took off here and then they were sent to the rest of the country. Of course since here the population is about 60% Mexican everyone knew what a Michelada was. I was the only person semi horrified by yet another aspect of our culture being coopted ala Taco Bell.
By the way, Chabelas and Micheladas are more of hangover thing for Sundays after the hard partying of Saturday. It never was an everyday thing but now more and more people are getting into Micheladas and its becoming more of a casual drinking thing.
But seriously Matt, I love the Toyfare articles and all but its almost a week since halloween and we need a fix this year. Do it for the fans!

Iiiii don’t know how i feel about that…i mean…beer and gingerale is as far as i’ll go. i mean clams. juice of a CLAM…and beer…i just can’t handle. I mean we all know alcohol tastes like shit so if you’re gonna down some add sugar and various artificial flavouring. come on now.

Man…that looks seriously nasty. But then, I don’t dig the idea of tomato juice (or clam juice for that matter) in any alcoholic drink, and I don’t like beer too much either. =p

i love the fact the do a bud light version… like people drinking tomato juice, reconstituted dried clam broth and beer from the same glass are going to care…
Could it work in a Bloody Mary? more alcohol could help the taste sensation… or numb the pain long enough to drink it…

I’m still and I’m sure will always be in the “beer is dirty sock-water” phase. Never really drinked it enough to like it, I guess. But I do enjoy more sophisticated drinks once in a while.
But maybe you’re just getting older Matt, hence the less Halloween appeal. I still enjoy Halloween but any more, I get satisfaction out of my kids and other kids enjoying it, living my life precariously through them.

On the one hand, I really sort of hate that this exists.
On the other hand, as a German Catholic, I must take it as an article of faith that any substance added to Bud Light, no matter how vile, must increase the overall palatability of the resulting liquid.
I must meditate on this further.

By the way I love ceasars, wich is a bloody mary with clamato. Intresting fact remember the song Brass Monkey, by the beastie boys? that was about beer mixed with orange juice!

see, the colour of that drink actually makes it look nice. Kinda like a tropical fruit soft drink or something. Clam juice though…that just sounds gross. I’m just imagining it to have this really gross fishy smell, even if it doesn’t…and beers not meant to smell like prawn heads.

In Mexico, it’s the michelada. In Canada, it’s called a Red Eye.
In between, it isn’t very popular. Clamato also makes a premixed Red Eye (with Michelob, I believe) and it’s actually pretty good.

ANYWAY.
OF COURSE budwesier in a mexican drink is going to be nasty.IT’S FUCKING BUWESIER! You try this shit with a flaming hangover at 11am on a sunday morning while you’re trying to choke down a plate full of eggs- with an assload of ice and TECATE- that shit is heaven sent.
I stand by it- prepackaged shit is just that- pre-packaged shit. Freshness is the key- as is the right kind of hot sauce, right kind of beer… it’s an art form and BUDWEISER just trashed it, yo.
You have me make you one as a hangover cure- you’ll praise the ground I walk on.

Wow..I found that stuff out here at my local 7-11 and was hung-over enough to try it. It’s good for curing hangovers..that’s about it. I also agree with kittymao that freshness is key. I’ve had a similar drink made fresh, and it was good.
However, I must confess my culinary beer adventure here. I got a growler of a vanilla beer (yes, you heard me right…a beer infused with vanilla) at a local microbrewery and decided to make a float out of it with vanilla ice cream. It wasn’t too bad..but then again i’m sure I was pretty buzzed by the time I tried it.

Little aggressive there? The fact is most people here probably do work 8 hours days, or more, being adults. That’s not got much to do with anything.
Anyone who’s been reading Matt’s stuff previous years and more importantly this year knows and understands it’s not been easy to do daily articles as he’s struggling to feel the mood and bust out 3000 word articles on crap he just can’t.
Most people are fine with that, i think all they’re trying to say is that so close to the day all this is for they were slightly disappointed the article they were waiting for wasn’t more what they were expecting and used to.
Do i like this article? Sure. Do i wish it was a tincy bit more spooky, yeah. But i’m not busting his chops over it, it was an article and i’m sure the remaining few (or 1 haha) will appease everyone.
Matt can write whatever article he wishes of course, it’s his site. Guess i just found your stance a little insulting for people merely expressing their opinions.

Regarding this as a hangover cure…while I’ve not tried it myself, and don’t think I could, anything with clam juice is satanic, I swear by tomato juice as a great hangover cure.
I typically have a bottle of V8 hanging around for that reason. A couple swigs at the end of the nights drinking, and a few more upon waking up seems to work for me.

Ghosted by
HauntSpot @ 10/26/2007 2:02 PM EDT
Sweet lord, that looks foul. I’m definitely still in the “beer is dirty sock water” faze, although I liken it more to distilled horse piss, but even the oldest can of Bud by itself would be almost yummy compared to this thing. Until reading this I had never heard of Clamato and I think I now know just about all I ever needed to know about it. I give Matt credit just for braving this thing and then writing about it for our entertainment. He deserves credit just for drinking the thing, and not even on a dare.
Well, hopefully (and I’m probably jinxing myself) I’ve got my internet situation sorted out at home. I got it up and running last night for the first time in the 3 weeks I’ve been at the new place. Hopefully I’ll still have a connection going when I get home from work. I’m at work as I type this listening to NIN on the headphones (what a great job I have). Anyone ever check out Pandora Radio on the net? It’s the shit. I created a personalized radio station based on Skinny Puppy and it just gave me a NIN track. Oop…that one’s gone, now I’ve got Nitzer Ebb. This is awesome. You just put in a band name and it plays tracks by that band and a bunch others similar to it. I’m skipping the Nitzer Ebb cause I’m not digging it. Let’s see what I get…hold on…Ok, it’s Klaxons. Not too familiar with them.
Anyways, yeah, so I dig reading anything Matt puts up, Halloweenie or not. I understand the arguments for more spooky stuff, but I’m appreciative of anything he decides to go on about. I’m just glad I now have regular access to the site at home and work and can get my daily dose of articles and chat, after nearly a month of no access.
Totally unrelated, but a week from today is my b-day. The big Three-O. I’m slightly freaking out. Oop, I just remembered. I gotta go shop for stuff for my Halloween costume today after work. I’m going as Mr. Herbert, the creepy old guy from Family Guy. I’ve got the whistle-y talk down pretty well.

I had to come back again and say.. clam broth and tomato juice. Eww! For some reason I am picturing someone squeezing a clam in an orange juice squeezer. I hope what I’m imagining isn’t really how it works. lol
I visit this site everyday checking for new Halloween articles.
Sometimes people have good intentions of doing something, yet just really don’t feel like it.. or can’t get around to it. I totally understand how Matt must feel. It’s somewhat draining in an odd way.. even though you really love doing it and want to do it. On the flip side.. it’s nice to just enjoy things and not have to worry about writing about them or taking notes all the time.
So.. my Halloween will be complete if you post a message for me on here Matt.

The problem is that Halloween is officially dead. It’s bad enough that it’s on a WEDNESDAY, which is the day that everyone hates most; but until yesterday it was 80 freaking degrees outside. It’s so sad that I know that when my friends and I get together tomorrow night for a Halloween “party”, I’m going to have to call ahead of time to make sure they’re wearing at least a pirate hat or some fake blood or something.

Toffeecake: Thanks loads. No, I don’t think I’m quite THAT old yet, or at least I hope not. I’m always walking around work doing the Mr. Herbert voice so someone here who’s throwing a party texted me the other day and said I had to do him for Halloween and I thought it was a pretty good idea, so there you go. I’ve never done anything “funny” for Halloween–always gone the skeery route. For the past 3 years I’ve gone as “Buffalo Bill” from The Silence of the Lambs. I walk around with a bucket tied to a rope with a bottle of lotion inside of it and a stuffed poodle named “Precious” on my shoulder. I get on the tables at the bar and lower my bucket down while saying, “It rubs the lotion on it’s skin or else it gets the hose again….”. I was told by my friend who’s throwing the party that it wasn’t allowed anymore since I did it for 3 years in a row, so it looks like it’s Mr. Herbert this year…
Downloading from Pandora sounds pretty groovy. I’m the DJ of a goth/industrial radio show so I’m a downloading fiend. The show’s going to be up and running again soon so I’m on the hunt for new stuff. Btw, Pandora’s blessing me with “Rodent”, by Skinny Puppy right now, so that’s a good thing.
As for the Halloween spirit, mine’s been hampered this year by my wallet, unfortuantely with moving expenses, starting a new job, and ungodly car repairs that couldn’t have come at a worst time. I’ve been totally strapped. I was grinning like a little kid this morning though when I came into work and saw a bat hanging from the ceiling–the kind that’s battery operated and flaps its wings and flies around in circles….with red, light up eyes! I don’t know why, but it cheered me right up. I guess it didn’t hurt that last night some friends and I went to see the Dracula ballet. Great, cheesy, “Thriller” like fun…and cause I’ve got he hook-up we got in for free. Can’t beat that. I’m looking forward to right after Halloween hitting Wal-Mart and Target for the kickass sales and stocking up on decorations for the new house. This is the only time of year when I can easily find stuff that I want to keep up year round.

There is NO problem with Matt not writing Halloween articles. In fact, I thought this post was great. However, the “2007 Halloween Countdown” graphic on the homepage needs to come down if there isn’t really going to be one. Perhaps this way, people won’t expect these types of articles.

I remember trying Clamato back when Matt first wrote about it. I worked at a grocery store at the time and I grabbed a (dusty) bottle on my break. That was around 5 or 6 years ago. I haven’t tried it again since. That most likely won’t change. But hey, I got a Gizmo from Gremlins wearing a pumpkin out of the claw machine at Walmart today. Only took me seven dollars across two stores and the little guy was mine.

Wow. I don’t know if its because I live in the boring old midwest or if its because I hit thirty and am no longer hip to the in things. God, that alone sounded way too old. But, I’ve never heard of “Juicing” any animal. I always thought juice required a fruit, maybe a vegetable, but NEVER a meat. I wonder what they’ll juice next…it makes sense somehow to start with fish, but I’m pretty sure PETA will get involved if people start trying to juice mammals.

I broke down and bought that Miller beer that has the lime in it for the wife. She really wanted to try it. I thought it sounded awful, but hey I got it to keep the peace. Compromised by only getting a 6 pack, and I’m glad I did. She never finished her first one and I was stuck with the rest. Worse it was as awful as I thought. Took me weeks to finish them off.
With that said there would be no way in hell I would ever buy anything with tomato juice and clams in it. I mean it screams awful all on its own, but in beer?!? That’s just wrong.

Clamato & Beer (usually kokanee) mixed together is really common here in Canada. I’ve never seen it premixed like this though.
Either or, it’s still not my taste. Ew.

i’ve been seein this stuff at the 7-11 near my night job for a couple months now, and i’ve had absolutely no desire to try it, but maybe i should be a little more daring and give it a shot.
then again, maybe i should make my own with a GOOD beer–or would that just be wasting it?

Wait, what? This sounds terrible!
In my opinion, regarding this Halloween Countdown, I think what we got was pretty good. While I would like to have one new piece of good Halloween content to read by (or on) the 31st, it’s not a big deal. I mean, we got mood tables, Ghost Dots, and Jason/ Arsenio! I think that’s great. Not a lot, but that’s okay.

Okay, I gotta step in here, regarding all of the Budweiser hating…
Budweiser original (not light or ice or anything of the sort) is a great tasting beer. I admit I’m more of a Miller man, but Budweiser with a nice juicy steak on the grill = the perfect summer evening.
However, anymore during drinking nights (which happen more often than they should) I buy Miller MGD or High Life light…High Life is the champagne of beers (I guess I’m highbrow)…plus it’s damn cheap (High Life not MGD).
BTW, I wrote this after drinking 7 High Life’s…I have a problem. Which I’m sure can be solved by more drinking.

Just adding my bit of love…
this was one of the most enjoyable recent articles for me…great writing
I love food and beverage articles (and recounts of trips to wherever) as they are universal so us foreigners don’t get left out of the loop.
As someone above said, Matt’s writing ability is the reason i love this site, i don’t particularly care about the halloween topic. Random stuff is way more fun.

Clamato + beer = triggered gag reflex
BTW, bonus points have been awarded for the Skillebrau reference.
HauntSpot: Yeah, it has been a little hard to stomach all of this beer-bashing. Probably not as hard to stomach as a Chelada, but still. I don’t have much tolerance for High Life though. A few of my friends swear by it, and my future father-in-law will drink nothing else, but it doesn’t agree with me. It is weird, I can drink two cans, or ten, and I will undoubtedly wake up with a headache the next day. Maybe it is a mental thing, I don’t know. I haven’t found one other beer that does this to me.
Anyway, I’m off to freshen up my drink. Mmmm, Glenfiddich single malt scotch whiskey on the rocks.
No?
Would you believe Jim Beam out of a dixie cup?
No?
Would you believe some Jewel brand whiskey that I found behind a gas station drank out of a semi-cleaned bedpan?

I hate to say that I haven’t seen these in our Canuckland liquor store BUT I probably would mental block it from my vision if I did. I hate seafood more than I hate tomato juice so a combination of the two is a new layer of hell for me.
Happy early 30th DJ… A month into 31 and this new decade still doesn’t bother me… no need to fret over it.
A funny thing about those evil x-mas cups from Tim Hortons. My wife always nukes the one I get for her on the way home the next morning. Typically this isn’t an issue but the new x-mas one ‘fried’ above the blue snow line. It turned black and pretty much caught fire and it was in there for the standard one minute she puts the regular cups in for. Not sure if this is a coincidence or a fault in the new cup. Not sure I want to break my fully functional microwave testing it out either. If anyone wants to in Canada please feel free. Her’s are normally large coffee’s double cupped if you want to replicate.
Considering this is more than I type lately on my own blog I should probably stop.
Picked up a really nice big “Happy Haunting” banner that glows in the dark today for 3$. about 60″ x 25″. Can’t wait to see it tomorrow night after the sun charges it all day.
I did say I was going to stop didn’t I??

I LOVE beer … a bit too much … believe it or not, I LOVE Busch beer. Nothing else seems to taste right. I tried Busch and V-8 once. No so gooood. Bud and Clamato …. BAD. The real Chelada beers I can get at the millions of taquerias around here … even worse. Just think of strained salsa mixed with beer and that’s it. CRAP

Ugh. Clam juice = pee smell. Beer = pee flavor. tomato juice = yuck.
A recipe for gross right there. But i dont really care much for beer to begin with, If i do drink it usually is some cheap ass milwaukees beast or natty ice because they are like $10/30pack by me, and well - all beer tastes gross to me , so why pay a premium to look cool? Id much rather drink long islands. Leaves me less bloated than choking down 4 or 5 beers.
As for the pandoras box website - that site is pretty friggin sweet. Totally free, and helps you find other new bands to get into, and reminds you of ones you may have forgotten about.

I agree with Matt. That’s one of the scariest things I’ve seen all October. I hate beer as it is - let’s add juice I’m not all that crazy about, too! I hope this doesn’t get out of the New York area.
And in more Halloween-y news, I finally picked up the DVD of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” at FYE today. Turned out to be half-price, too, much to my surprise as it wasn’t listed anywhere in the store. I spent most of a rainy, atmospheric afternoon watching it and the Election Day special “You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown.”

Wow. I was reading some of the comments posted earlier and I have to side with Kittymao. I come to X-E because it makes me feel better when the days get stressful. It focuses on the little things that most people usually over look but if we take time to read 3,000 words about kitkats we start to notice that life isn’t too bad after all. We all share something in common.
So Matt owes us nothing and if he writes about Clamato beer a week before Halloween I say that’s perfect. I’m sad that there are people that would go out of their way to make the one person who give us something to smile about a hard time. So….Fuck you. If you can’t say something nice, troll somewhere else. This is X-E and we take life a little less serious.

When I moved to a town that was full of apple orchards and also full of migrant Hispanic workers I worked at a grocery store that sold a lot of Budweiser and Clamato to that demographic. So, I grew up thinking that Budweiser was Mexican beer and with the knowledge that it is only drunk with Clamato. I am serious when I say I wonder is this beverage is a huge hit there. But I don’t like beer and can’t imagine that clams and tomatoes would enhance the flavor to be something I could tolerate.
P.S. It’s Saturday and I love Saturday

Sorry, Joker, its “cajoling”.
I have never been a beer drinker, since I got intimately familiar with the look and smell of horse piss during my few seasons as a racehorse groom, and it spoiled me for ever thinking a drink that perfectly resembled it should ever be something I could suck down my gullet.
For some reason the other grooms had no problems with it, tho.

Moony: Hah! My uncle used to say something similar about Corona when the rest of the family would drink it. He claimed that the recipe was a closely guarded secret, because nobody else had ever figured out how to keep the cats on top of the bottles before.
Of course, he drank dark ales and referred to all American lagers as “love in a canoe beer,” so he was a highly experienced beer snob anyway.

Those eyeball icecubes kick so much ass, FungusMungus!
I love both radishes and olives, so it works for me.
They seem like a fair bit of work, but since Halloween is also my 31st Bday I feel that a little extra work for my Halloween party is warranted; and nothing would look better in some vodka!
Also, I am so in agreement that whatever Matt feeds us is excellent.
And, if I used my free time to create a FREE entertainment site I would write about whatever the hell I felt like; and that the more I was pestered to write about something specific, the less likely it would happen. Just my 2 cents.
(And, yes, I enjoy run-on sentences, starting sentences with ‘and,’ and other instances of poor grammar).

I feel bad that Matt can’t get into it as much as he’d like. If Matt wasn’t posting, but was like “I’m out living the season,” I’d be perfectly cool with it. I don’t expect him to post a single thing, but I’m bumming that he’s bumming. I wish him a truck-load of holiday spirit in what is left of the homestretch–and not to write about it, just to FEEL it.

Wow, the content for “Halloween” month seems off. Yeah, I read that you’ve been down/depressed/feeling off, but that sucks since I used to enjoy coming here during the month of October.
For me, October is always fun. I’ve added more Horror movies to my DVD collection and made up a list of 66 movies to watch for October, with most of them already watched. Sure, some stores do seem to have skipped over Halloween, but not me. I purchased my candy weeks back and picked up some more before it disappears and the Christmas candy takes over.
Since you didn’t do much for Halloween (site wise) Matt, I just hope that you don’t splurge on the other Holidays, since Halloween is the one major Holiday as far as this place goes (at least it is to me).
Here’s hoping that Halloween 2008 is MUCH better than the 2007 version.

The reason why there is no Halloween spirit in my town? Two large shopping areas are ALREADY lit up with Christmas decorations. It’s crazy. And Wal-Mart (at least here) relegated the Halloween stuff to two tiny ailse i nthe middle of the store while the garden centers are already signing and shining with the lights and soounds of Christmas. My Christmas spirit ran out early last year because I was working “Christmas Carol” and got sick of my the first week of December, but maybe the rest of the world was overdoing it too and I’m just now noticing it this year…there is a Halloween Scrubs on Comedy Central right now….

Man, today’s been a weird day. I spent the last couple of afternoons after work trying to find stuff for what was supposed to be my Halloween costume and couldn’t find a thing. The only time I would even bother showing it off would be at a party tonight. I actually was supposed to show up at 2 of them tonight. They both started over 2 hours ago and here I am, in my pj’s, chatting on X-E. I just feel weird not going if I don’t have a costume and since I had to work late I haven’t had dinner yet. I think I’m going to run downstairs and make a pizza and then think on whether or not I’m going anywhere. Something tells me it aint happening, and I feel kind of guilty. I promised the hosts of both parties I would make an appearance, but I’m just not feeling it for some reason. I’ll probably regret it tomorrow, especially since I asked both the hosts to show up at my b-day shindig next week, and I’m not really living up to my end of the “party etiquette” obligation.

I don’t have any parties outside of our Jones one. We’re doing that Thursday. Halloween doesn’t end until I say so!
I watched Constantine today, seeing as I finished the game the other night. I’m going to start Silent Hill 3 pretty soon. I snagged a blacklabel original (of the original Silent Hill) off eBay the other day. It cost me a pretty penny, but it is certainly worth it.
I’ve only played 3 (and I lurve it, obviously) at the behest of a friend, but I can’t wait to play the rest of the series. Even with just 3 it has surpassed Resident Evil, in my eyes.
There’s an interesting survey: Resident Evil or Silent Hill?. Or, interject your own favorite survival horror series/game.

I remember first loving the overall atmosphere of horror games with Uninvited. Yeah, it was an adventure game, but it certainly had the vibe down. I played Resident Evil after the Colonel fell in love with it (he bought like EVERY re-release of it). I like it, but I wasn’t enamored until 2. The police station is just OMG perfect. I love when normal environments become absolutely terrifying, it’s the contrast and irony of it.
The mall in Silent Hill 3 is the stuff of legends for me. Walking around in the back corridors, being followed by those monsters. *sigh* It took me hours to find the janitor’s closet the first time.
I’ve always been dubious of RE4, even though I’ve heard nothing but praise for it. Ktulu will stab me in the chest for making such an assumption, but the countryside just doesn’t seem like it could ellicit the same feelings as mundane environments. I’ll play it some day, just because I owe it to him and the Colonel.

I don’t think we’ll ever convince KNeg to play RE4
One of the scariest gaming moments I can remember from my early game days was when the dogs jumped through the window in RE1. My friend had me playing it in the the dark with the speakers way up. I knew what shitting my pants felt like from that point on….
On a related topic of video games: I’m going in a few minutes to pick up my first ever Guitar Hero…finally one for a Nintendo system. While I’m looking forward to the game I’m not looking forward to a crowd. I hope it’s dead…

I actually am partying it up a bit tonight. The little sister’s in from the midwest and we’re doing a family bday party now and heading to a friend’s shindig in a bit. We even pulled together costumes; I’m going to be Dakota from Planet Terror, and she’s going as Gay Dumbledore. Should be home in time for Shaun of the Dead. And we’ll be just as pissed off when you give him shit about it. HUZZAH!
Seriously people, you’re not going to convince us regulars that you aren’t being a prick everytime you complain about Matt not doing something that he does out of the kindness of his heart. I know he is flattered that people want his stuff that badly, but at the end of the day you are being ungrateful and acting like you deserve something from the man.
YOU DO NOT, and neither do any of the rest of us. There are just plenty of us who realize that we should be grateful for everything we get and not to ever expect anything. Okay, yeah, he announced a countdown because expected to able to deliver it. He had every right to believe that he could, as he has been doing it for years now. If the circumstances of his life and mood prevented him from completing it, however, THAT IS LIFE AND WE WILL ACCEPT IT.

Kneg you couldnt have put it better man.
All these “where are our new articles matt” posts are really getting old!!!
Id much rather wait a few days for Gold than something matt did that his heart wasnt into just for the sake of posting.

You “regulars”? Just becuase I rarely post doest make me any less of a regular. Ive been visiting this site regularly for 3 years.
I know that I dont deserve something from the man, but that doesnt make me want it any less.
I just think that when somebody sais they are going to do something, barring any extreme circumstances (sorry, but “i dont feel like it” is not an extreme cirumstance) they should, or else it is considered lieing.

Maybe I should wait until the SNT (assuming there will be one) but I just carved my Jack O’ Lantern tonight (the link in my name). Props to anybody that can guess who it is.

Have you seen any of the regulars (as I define them) complaining? No. Honestly, I feel that supporting Matt in this way is a criteria for being a regular. If your criteria is otherwise, then we simply disagree. I would hope that a regular would know the circumstances of Matt’s life and respect them.
“I don’t feel like it” is not an “extreme circumstance” if we are talking about an obligation one has to something like a job. However, I think we can all agree that Matt does not make the majority of his income from running this site. Matt runs X-E for himself, and for his readers, and if he does not feel up to writing something, that is a perfectly acceptable reason for not doing so. To think otherwise is to expect something from Matt, as I have described above.

I for one appreciate everything that Matt does for this site. I find him extremely entertaining and often hilarious. I’d love to see more articles, but if he burns himself out and loses interest completely than we’re all on the out. So cut him some slack.
I for one still have a candle lit in the window awaiting the conclusion of the Chia pet plot.
Games, can’t say I have played either RE or silent hill. I do like FEAR. Typical shoot-em-up with one creepy little girl popping up every once in a while. Another I liked was Alice. Just surreal on several levels.

Matt, just keep writing. Write about the paint drying on the wall, for all I care…I’m sure you could make it interesting.
Did anyone else watch “The Black Hole” on TCM tonight? WTF is up with that ending? Even the end of 2001 makes more sense to me than that did…
Also, Clamato? WTF is it anyway? I don’t get it….

wenthral: ahh alice, now theres a damn fine game, one i’d actually forgotten about, thanks for reminding me.
squee: awesome idea for a costume, nothing as badass as a girl with a “syringe-launcher”
Ben: dunno exactly what it is but its rad and it reminds me of a flash drive by the people that made the one matt got for xmas a few years back.
aaaand Derek: I can understand being disapointed about the lack of spooky content and new articles but to be pissed off at someone that owes you NOTHING and to continuously be volcal about it, is, well, just a lil’ bit Dickish!

Cameron T.: clamato = basically tomato juice, CLAM JUICE(ugh), and spices.
and speaking of 2001, anyone see 2010? the “sequal” to 2001, now theres a shitty/weird ending.
and to anyone who gets showcase the first saw flick is on now.

Yep, I ended up staying in, just like I thought. I’m sure at least one of the parties is still going full swing and I’m sure I’ll hear crap tomorrow about it, but c’est la vie.
And for those still interested, yeah, I’m still seeing everything in bold print. Don’t know what’s up with that. I personally blame Magic Toy and diamonds. Not because I actually think they had anything to do with it, but just because it’s good clean fun and cause I just want to point the finger of blame somewhere and that’s as good a place as any. Damn you guys!
squee4242: Gay Dumbledore! LOL! I still refuse to believe it though. Snape, maybe. That I could see. But Dumbledore..say it ain’t so!
Kneg: Man, you hit the nail on the head. I’m just annoyed that anyone would come on here and bring any kind of negativity (Knegativity?). The spirit of this board has always just been one of fun, and it’s not the place I would expect to go to hear someone bitching about how they don’t like the site. I mean, the man doesn’t owe us anything. If you actually got upset over the fact that you didn’t get what you feel is your allotted amount of Halloween articles, I would have to say your priorites in life are a little wonky. I mean, lay off already. If you don’t like it, there’s a lot of bandwith out there and there’s nothing stopping you from hitting up Wal Mart, buying up a bunch of crap, and writing away till your heart’s content. Then you can sit back, and read it all over and over all day long. Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to have someone hop on your site and bitch about what you may or may not be writing. That ought to give you something to do.
As for horror games, I’m first and foremost a first person shooter guy, but coming up a close second would be anything creepy. But, being a relatively new gamer I’ve only really played Resident Evil 4 and I have to say it’s literally the best game I’ve ever played. I’ve thought about going back and tracking down the first 3 but don’t want to be disappointed. Can’t be too bad, though. If they’re anything like the 4th one, I’m sure I’ll like them. I’ve been meaning to check out the Silent Hill games too. So, is it the general consensus that Part 3 is the best? I might have to give that a go. Right now I’m playing the Transformers game based on the movie and honestly just blasting my way through it with cheat codes just waiting for it to be over. It’s not terrible, but the Transformers: Armada game for the PS2 is way better but few people have ever heard of it much less played it. I want to save up for an X-Box 360 for maybe a Christmas/tax returns present for myself. I’ve actually never played a Halo game despite being a huge shooter fan, so those combined with all the other shooters available for the 360 mean I’ve got a lot of catching up to do. Plus, Jericho is out now, and being the Clive Barker fanatic that I am, I have to have it. I mean, Clive Barker meets a shooter game…I can’t pass that up.
Oop..my phone just rang and it’s the hostess of one of the parties I was supposed to go to tonight. I let the voice mail get it. I’ll call her back in a sec…Looks like I’m going to the principal’s office.

Not only have I seen it but own it on DVD…all of the Russian tension stuff was written just for the movie, and I agree the “use them in peace” ending is kind of crappy……Arthur C. Clarke wrote four books in the 2001 series…2001, 2010, 2061, and 3001. Of the sequels, I like 2010 the best as it fleshes out Dave Bowman and HAL 9000 more. 2061 is more like a short story, and 3001 has a cop-out ending that is way too similiar to a popular alien action flick starring Will Smith (though Clarke swears up and down that he handn’t seen/heard of the plot for that when he wrote it…)
He does “retcon” the later books into following the first movie (in the original book, which was written at the same time as the screenplay, they go to Saturn, not Jupiter. However, all later books assume the mission went to Jupiter.
And although I like fried clams, Clamato sounds disgusting. Mixing it with beer seems like a crime agains humanity.

I can’t be sure, but I actually doubt that 3 is generally considered the best. Like I said, It’s the only one I’ve played. Heather is a nice, twisted little character
If I ever find the Wii Transformers game in the bargain bin, I’ll be picking it up. It is worth a few bucks, but not anywhere near full price.

Cameron T.: i did enjoy the movie though, its the ending that im not so fond of, i actually wasnt aware of the books(casual fan of the movies) would you suggest picking them up? Im always looking for a good read!
And speaking of the Colonel, wheres sir catsup been lately?? i dont think(someone will pop outta the woodwork to correct me) that ive seen a post by him for awhile, hope everythings good.
The Fog on AMC right now!(again, i’ve seen it 3 times so far this monster fest)

DJ.D: not muxh of a FPS fan myself, BUT, on the topic of Halo, Although I have only played the first halo game I suggest if you do get the 360 to pick it up, if its anywhere near as good as the first one and you’re into FPS’ you will love it.

That doesnt change the fact that he said that he would do the countodwn. and even when he abandoned that he said he would make a new blog post every day.
If he didnt want to write, he souldnt have said that he would. I was raised to know that if you tell someone you are going to do something, you do it, regardless if your heart is in it or not. Or else it is a lie.

derek: ok, in your opinion “he lied” sure, whatever, but lemme ask you this, if you ran a site, and had for the past 5 years or so, and had a TON of amazing content, would you just post something that you didntt think was up to par with all your other articles, something you didnt feel was as good as you wanted it to be, just because somebody that reads your site felt you should??
give him a break man, what matt does give us always makes me chuckle and has actually helped me through a couple of really rough times, “I mean, come on”

I was raised to know that if you tell someone you are going to do something, you do it, regardless if your heart is in it or not.
One should be able to count on the person(s) they made a promise to, to understand that things, and feelings change. If someone makes a promise to me, and I can see quite clearly that they are unable/unwilling to make good on it, I am willing to let them leave the promise unfufilled.
Again, if it was a job we were talking about, yeah that person most likely wouldn’t get paid. However, I would hope that person would quit that job for their sake, their employer’s, and the customers’.
If your heart is no longer in something, you should be free to let that be known, and walk away gracefully. And no, you shouldn’t quit everything or give up on it at the first sign of trouble. But remember, Matt isn’t giving up the site, he just hasn’t continued the countdown as expected.
If Matt were to continue the countdown, when his heart wasn’t in it, the countdown would be horrible and people would complain about that. In that light, I would hope that you could agree that Matt not doing the countdown, actually BENEFITS everyone involved.

Yep, KNeg, I still cry myself to sleep each night because you rejected my suggestion
(tongue firmly in cheek, obviously)…I never could get through Hotel Dusk, I think I forgot to save once and then just gave up; it got frustrating. I just finished Phantom Hourglass a few days ago; one of my favorite Zelda games hands down now. It just does so much in a similiar yet very new and different way. It was great fun…
Speaking of which: holy crap is Guitar Hero fun to play!! I know I’m late on this band wagon, but having only owned Nintendo systems, I’ve only ever been slightly exposed to GH and was always to chicken to play it. But the songs I’ve played so far-on EASY mode, I’ll admit- have been great fun, and I am getting more into it with each song.
And on that other topic: When will people learn? My impression was Matt writes what he wants when he wants. Complaining when he doesn’t write something is silly. What if the complaining makes him not want to write again?! I think those of us have been around for awhile are happy to get what we get when we get it; we can handle ourselves in the the inbetween time. And if your Halloween vibe relies only on Matt’s writing, maybe you should look for other venues for the feeling. Sure, I miss it too, but it’s not my place to complain or even be upset if he just doesn’t feel it right now. Plus, I know how busy real life can get sometimes and this ‘interweb’ life has to take a backseat from time to time. Hell, it’s probably good for all of us every now and then….
Sorry for the length; seems I might need sleep….

Bubba Ho-tep!
Whaaaat?
Its the closest I have to a horror movie I like (still haven’t gotten to see Shaun of the Dead, tho). :) I guess Buffy would work for a series, too…
I’ve spent most of my day on my Halloween comic…and its still not finished. Still have one character and the background to color, then it will be up.
To Everyone Who Comes to Complain
What are you doing in exchange for the entertainment Matt gives you? Can’t you at the very least try and be supportive instead of complaining about what he’s giving to you free? Me, I’d *love* to do more than just be supportive and chat here…and I know I will find a way to do something soon.

Ben, I’m viewing on a phone so I could be completely off but could it be Eric Cartman? The side part and round eyes were the tipoff. (on preview, I guess Mare and Cartman look alike!)
Thanks, JoshC! I couldn’t get my hands on a “syringe with three rings for the plunger that no one can tell me the specific name of or find anywhere outside of ebay” in time, but after calling a few pharmacies one of them hooked me up with a plain one that worked well enough for photo ops. As for Gay Dumbledore (or as we finally decided on, Young Oats Sowing Dumbledore since “gay” is unecessary and redundant), LOL DJ D. The fic reader side of me is inclined to agree with you, but if we’re looking at the actual series, there’s just no way, since…well I don’t want to ruin DH for anyone that hasn’t read it yet but we know Snape likes the ladies. Dumbledore, on the other hand, makes perfect sense.
I hate that the SNT had to be occupied with troll feeding
