Well, I certainly shouldn’t expect that too many people are around this Saturday night considering my own disappearing act, but if you’re here, feel free to comment. What a weird Halloween season. I know it can’t just be me. I’m off to find my macabre mojo for a while, but I’ll be back later.

Matt, have you ever been to or heard of the Chiller Theatere Expo? It was in Parsipany, NJ. I went this past weekend. It’s really fun, the best was Gary Coleman’s table right next to Kane Hodder’s. The website is linked in my name if you are intersted. They are having another in April.
Also, do you know if Cocoa Bat Peeps still exist? I’m assuming they are discountinuted. I’ve searched every Halloween season ever since your inital post about them about 5 years ago. I’ve never had any luck.

Yay me, I was first. Now that it’s off my chest, I have to admit, this Halloween just doesn’t feel right. I’ve hardly even seen anything in the stores, it’s almost as if they have decided to go ahead with christmas and say to hell with Halloween.
That doesn’t boast well with me.

I visited a Halloween Superstore today and came home with a coloring book, didn’t want one other thing. Is it the weather that’s stealing the mojo?
My two pumpkins had to be thrown away
The warm weather made them moldy and collapse in less than 7 days.

I commiserate with Matt on the lack of mojo, but I myself am not experiencing it this year. In fact, the more stressful my job gets, the more excited I get about Halloween. I decorate and do fun projects after work as stress relievers. I totally want to make the Ravens Blight manor now!

It’s the weather. Here in Southern Ontario, it’s been pretty hot.
But yesterday and today feel just like fall! It’s just a few degrees over 0 (celcius, you Americans).
The forecast for the next few days seems pretty fall-like, so hopefully the weather won’t heat up again.

All right, I think it’s time XE saved Halloween. We’ll meet at the Toys R Us in Times Square and begin searching for a witch, Dracula, and Tim Curry so that we can find out who stole the Halloween spirit. And then kick him in the junk. And then have a claymation television special commissioned in our honor. Tally ho!
…crap, my car’s blocked in by Sooner fans. You guys let me know how the epic quest turns out.

This is a weird Halloween season indeed.
Everything feels Halloweeny, but looking around the neighborhood I’m the only one with blinky Halloween lights in the windows and cheap foam gravestones in the yard.
It’s chilly, the leaves are starting to change (in Illinois), and the days are growing shorter; Yet, people just ain’t getting into it.
Is it the government…something in our water? Course, haven’t seen much promotion of Halloween in the media this year either. No ‘Thirteen Days of Halloween’ being promoted every commercial break. Maybe it’s because the economy is a downturn, and Halloween isn’t really a holiday where people go and spend a lot of cash…they’re all holding onto their ad budgets for Christmas.
It looks like it’s up to all of us purists. You specifically Matt.
Just think, ‘The Halloween that Matt Saved’!
You can do it!
You know what’s gotten me in the Halloween mood? The “8 Films To Die For” series. Tonight I start “Dark Ride”, which is about a serial killer hiding inside an amusement park Dark Ride (imagine that!). Kinda like Zeebo the clown in that one “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” episode. Best of all, I got it for just a buck at family video. Well, I’m off. Wish me luck.

The weather’s cooled off here, but not as much as I’d like. The leaves aren’t turning yet either. And yeah, it does seem like they’re trying to skip Halloween and probably Thanksgiving this year and jump right to Christmas, which is bullshit.

This is just like that time in Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer when Stormy was being a jerk and didn’t want winter to stop and then it turned out that the Princess was putting that opaque netting around the Diamond Planet causing winter to continue long past its time which in turn caused major depression on Earth. Except it’s the opposite now, and Halloween will never come unless some mythical being makes with the cool weather. Am I right or am I right?
I just want to wish everyone a Happy Halloween Season. Just stay in the spirit, because you’re the only one who needs to feel it, to make it special.
Well, I’m off to work, but when I get back I’m bringing home candy corn, haven’t had that in awhile.

It’s true; I can’t even work up the enthusiasm to get my Halloween costume together. The timing just all seems off, with sports schedules all out of wack and not a single horror movie in theaters. (Saw IV don’t count. At all.) Maybe my spirits will lift with the re-release of Nightmare Before X-Mas this weekend, but I don’t know. I think I’ll dig into all the crappy horror VHS I just bought off of eBay and see if that doesn’t help.
Hey all, this is my first SNT.
Like the Chiller Con in Jersey I go to one here in Maryland every year called Horrorfind Weekend. http://www.horrorfindweekend.com is the site incase anyone wants to check it out.
What gets me in the Halloween Spirit is making sure I decorate, carve and watch as many animated specials I can just like everyone else. On top of that I make it my mission to impose my good Halloween cheer on my unwitting friends and family. My girlfriend never did holiday’s at all really before she met me (stunted childhood) so I get to corrupt her from scratch

I never really get into Halloween until a few days before Halloween when I start my Halloween movie marathon…Little shop of Horrors, Corpse Bride, Young Frankenstein, and Rocky Horror being the films I watch…
Speaking of movies, for some reason I decided to start Watching Star Wars tonight. Starting at the Beginning, Episode I. Maybe one film a night? We’ll see…
Happy SNT!

I’ve been trying to watch as many cartoon Halloween specials as I can online. I just watched Casper Saves Halloween, The Flintstones Meet Rockula and Frankenstone, The Halloween Tree, and the awful Halloween is Grinch Night.
Today is only day 3 of decent weather here in Virginia. I own like 30 hoodies! I need to rotate those babies!
Maybe its just me and everyone else isn’t feeling the mojo but I’m all psyched! I leave for tour on Monday, so I get to have Halloween on the road (in Poughkeepsie, NY I think). So I bought a giant banana costume yesterday and I have my Nightmare Before Christmas action figures and I’m bringing all my Halloween specials on DVD with me and I’m psyched. In fact, I’m 20 minutes, and 10 dinosair shaped chicken nuggets away from watching Nightmare Before Christmas. Ill be back!
Everyone! Get out of your funk! Watch Hocus Pocus and feel better!

God speed my son. It has been weird here too. Even “Holiday Street” (as me and my wife have dubbed it) still doesn’t have their decorations up yet. I put some Halloween wallpapers on my iPhone but I wasn’t feeling it either so I just went back to my autumn leaves background.

The thing that always gets me in the spirit, no matter what, is the cartoon 1940’s era Legend of Sleepy Hollow. It’s just spooky good fun! Of course, Monster Squad is also good for mojo conjuration, too.

My tip for getting into the Halloween spirit… volunteer for a Haunted House. By trade, I’m an illustrator / graphic designer and was invited by a friend to take part in a local haunted house. I said ’sure’ and was surprised that we started work during the summer. Several months of painting backdrops has made me very eager for some howling at the moon.
As far as Halloween film marathons go:
I just watched 28 days later last night.
Tonight is 28 weeks later (I’m told I’ll be disappointed)
In my Netflix Q:
• Transformers (OK, it’s not for Halloween, but dammit I grew up with these guys)
• Planet Terror
• Something Wicked This Way Comes
• The Watcher in the Woods
• Ghost Story
• Phantasm (Never seen it, is it good?)
• Night of the Demons (1 & 2)
• Witch Board
• Demons (1 & 2)
Welcome, Charlie
Definitely, Matt. SH3 is just delightful. I remember rattling off my list of complaints about it to the friend who lent it to me last year, but then feeling horrible everyday because of how awesome it really is despite those flaws.
The first true level is a mall, which for some reason in my mind is the ultimate horror locale. My only BIG complaint about it is that you almost always play the regular side of a level first, and then the “hell side.” Constantine does a much better job of it. You switch back and forth to solve puzzles and progress. It is so like A Link to the Past that it makes me SQUEEE!

HauntSpot, it is totally cool to have non-scary things in the Halloween mojo cauldron. It’s about fun. The best Halloween memory I have as a child was winning a coloring contest, and I got to actually talk on the air for a bit. Yeah, it sounds kinda lame now, but at the time it was the coolest thing going on in my 5-year old universe.

Free cider, free pumpkins, rope swings, slides, rope swings, hay rides, baby piggies, a volcano (slide), turkeys, and more! They even have a giant dinosaur themed slide called “Slide-A-Saurus”! Check this place out: Cox Farms. Its ok, to giggle at the name, too.

Brian: YES! If you know of a local pumpkin patch near you VISIT! It’s an experience that will instantly get you in the Halloween spirit. The charm of a pumpkin patch will capture your heart.
In fact, I’ll be visiting one later this month ‘Black Barts’, they always have some home-made Halloween decorations and free (over salted) popcorn! Each year, that’s the exclamation point for ‘It’s Halloween!’ for me.
Jessica Marie
Mad props for a reference that 80’s and geeky. I’ve been clearing out my house on eBay to get cash for living/giant television. Nothing feels more 80’s to me than a non-cluttered, clean house. I wish I had the time to go back to that place. It was epic. Several acres big and it smelled like goats and was made of win. Oh man.
And “Black Bart’s” has a name that makes it sound infinitely cooler. Does it have a pirate theme? That would be like a second layer of icing on an already iced cake. Party on, HauntSpot!

As have I. A sudden dip in the temperatures (it was 85 a week ago and 63 today) and finally getting to put up my own Halloween decorations has certainly boosted my “macabre mojo.” Alas, my one larger pumpkin did rot from last week’s awful, un-Halloweeny weather, but it’s little mini-pumpkin siblings and their cousins the bumpy squash are weathering the change in weather just fine. I can pretty much net a replacement for the big pumpkin any time - the grocery store where I work is littered with them.

*This is really more of a Kingklash job but since I got here first*
I can’t believe what I am hearing. What is wrong with everybody?? True, I don’t want anyone to fake it (”Boy, Halloween is going great.” *through clinched teeth*) but I ain’t having it!!
True, the weather has been off, true, we are all getting older, true even the Manimal thought about letting this be the year that I scaled back. We all have our doubts but you pull yourself and bust out of the quagmire. IT’S THE AMERICAN WAY.
Now, I want 2 FRIDAY THE 13th references and at least one obscure Halloween joke from all of you by the time the night’s over.
*blows coach’s whistle* COME ON TEAM, SUCK IT UP! Play like the champions you are! “One of us, ONE OF US!”

Yo. Does anyone here have facebook? They have an awesome new jack-o-lantern carving app. I’ve been going nuts sending pumpkins to all my buddies. And now it’s off to a haunted house. I know it’s a warm Halloween season, but remember, Matt, it still only comes once a year. Don’t get caught saying “what the hell happened?” November 1st. Those next 11 months are loooooong.
I COMPLETELY agree.

Oh, I’ve been alright, Bryan. I’ve been rather busy myself. Busy enough to not have taken in any shows since god-knows-when
It’s been a pretty decent year in music (compared to last year anyway). Infinity on High is easily my vote for album of the year. I’ve listened it into the ground like 5 different times already.
I have to say that every year I get less and less excited about Christmas. I still enjoy the act of giving, but hell I can do that all year long.

Muppet Baby: That’s good news…getting ready to watch it (28 Weeks Later).
All my best, hope your cured of any ailments, either way I’ll include you in my prayers…
My girl get’s off work at 9 (central) and she should be showing up with food and we’ll watch it (I hate watching horror while eating dinner). I bet ya she’ll pick up McD’s… she’s obsessed that she’ll win millions with the whole Monopoly thing. Typically, she’ll win free fries. The rub of it all is that she only eats McD’s when Monopoly is going on. She’ll order a horrible salad from them…she’ll get me the ‘extra large’ Big Mac meal. I guess it’s OK for me to eat artery clogging food from them as long as there’s the possibility of winning stuff.
Brian: Actually, Black Bart’s doesn’t have a pirate theme. I originally thought the same thing when I first went there years ago. It’s a hodge podge of everything Halloween. What’s most ridiculous and disturbing is that they have a Snow White with the seven dwarves and they’re all crying blood! Not only are they crying blood, but they’ve posted signs in their hands that read the prices for the pumpkins. It’s a beautiful thing.

Here in the UK, tis really strange. The stores are getting more and more halloween-ie, but it just doesn’t feel right. It feels less like halloween than ever before. The TV really needs to start showing horror films to try and save the holiday. Preferably the Friday the 13th with Crispin Glover. Followed by the Worst Witch/IT double-bill for true Curry value.

It looks quite nice, Brian. If I were to take the plunge, I think it would have to be either My Chem or Green Day.
When I say “decent year in music,” I’m really talking about the pitifully small selection of albums I have actually bought. Infinity, or course. Ataris’ Welcome the Night is quite a feat, even if I’ve never been able to fully FULLY get into it. Yellowcard’s Paper Walls is a nice return to form after Lights and Sounds, and the new Foos is aiight.
I really really wish it had more all-out rockers. But, The Pretender, Statues, and Long Road to Ruin are good enough for me not to be pissy.

And welcome to the SNT charlie!
I’m not feeling the Halloween either. We had a death in the family earlier this week and it’s been really tough. I’m still trying to go through the motions, hoping it will be a good distraction. Earlier I put a ton of the upcoming spooky movies in to record on the DVR. I’m going to the Screamfest film festival on Monday to see the director’s cut of Planet Terror at the Grauman Chinese theater, which I was previously really excited about. I still am, I guess. Sorry to bring the thread down.
A Halloween joke:
What’s the difference between your pregnant girlfriend and a dead bulb on your string of Halloween lights?
You can unscrew the lightbulb!

Gweff: I would see if your family/friends have any VCRs and older television sets they can lend you. Create a little ambiance by putting old horror films on VHS on the televisions, with the sound turned down. The fuzzier you can make the reception, the better. And put the TVs in the weirdest places possible.

I just completed a move from a smaller town into a city and Halloween is EVERYWHERE here. Very few people decorated in my old town but here it seems like every house is decked out. I’ve also seen several stores in the area which specialize in only Halloween stuff. My Halloween spirit is doing just fine, but one thing I do miss is the movie marathons the Scifi channel use to do 6ish years ago. They use to run an entire month of Halloween themed movies (vampires etc).

An MCR tattoo? What of? The full parade artwork from The Black Parade would be an awesome sleeve piece. And did you hear they’re releasing The Black Parade on double vinyl? There’s a regular version and a deluxe edition that comes with a special slip case and other malarky. Thanks MCR for making me buy more of your stuff.

‘Bout dag-gum time I got back on the boards here. Where to start? First off, thanks to FyarlGirl for the Happy SNT wishes, which reminded me all about it. I completely forgot. I don’t have any regular net access since I moved this week. I’m using the roommie’s laptop cause she’s out of town and the only other place I can do it is at work, but lately I haven’t had time to sneak away and do some on the sly posting. Anyone know anything about routers and adapter cards and such? They are the devil! My computer’s telling me I’m getting a signal from the roommie’s router and everything looks great, but still no internet in my room. Ugh!
Anyways, while I’m on a rant, if there’s anything that might be dampening my Halloween spirit this year, it must be car troubles. You would know the day before I move, my car breaks down (last Friday) and I had to put off moving everything for a few days. Fast forward a week later, and on Monday I’m taking it to the FOURTH mechanic in a little over a week because no one can figure out what’s wrong with it. A good buddy of mine who is a mechanic looked at it today and the best he can figure is it’s something to do with the ignition. It just keeps randomly shutting off as I’m driving. So yeah, I was really jazzed about the season seeing as I have a great new job and just moved to a new place, but right now I’m too stressed about money to get into it as much as I would like, but don’t worry, Manimal !….I’m not giving up hope yet!!! My black little heart is still jumping with dark cheer!
I’m going to a friend’s Halloween party in a couple of weekends and I understand black vodka and horror movies will be involved, although she’s not too much into real scary stuff which is a kind of a disappointment, so it’ll be more in the Monster Squad vein, which is fine with me. If I had my way it would be a good mixture of that kind of thing and truly gory stuff thrown in for good measure, but I’ll take what I can get. The good thing about the place I just moved to is the lease is month by month, so before long if things go well I’ll have not only a new car but my own place, where the dark decorating will begin! Who cares if Halloween will be over then! Maybe I’ll catch a good dose of the late spirit! Oh, I almost forgot, my birthday is 2 days after the ‘Ween, so I’ve got double reason to get excited now. I’m getting there slowly but surely….
Oh, and HauntedSpot I worked at a Haunted House here for about 6 years. Some of the best times I’ve ever had were at that place. I agree, it’s a great way to get jazzed about the season, especially since we had to start building the rooms and everything around July.
Oh, and by the way, watch out for the old man on the road holding the eyeball…he sounds crazy but he knows what he’s talking about…

I may have to look for a pumpkin patch this year.
We went to a corn maze last year, figuring it was cool Autumny/Halloweeny thing to do.
Unfortunately we had had record rainfall that summer, and stuff was blooming and pollinating out here (Albuquerque, NM) that hadn’t seen the sun for about nine hundred years. So I had horrible fall allergies. But I figured, hey, I’m not allergic to corn!
Turns out, other shit grows in corn fields besides corn. Especially a not particularly carefully tended corn field
(I don’t know if it was harvested later or existed solely for the purpose of the maze). Lots of other shit; all of which I am apparently highly allergic to.
About the time we’re in the middle of this thing, I’m hacking and wheezing, my wife is desperately trying to find a way out, and the white part of my left eye has actually become inflamed and swollen. When I looked at it in the car mirror (we eventually got out), it looked like my cornea was surrounded by jelly. I didn’t know what the fuck had gotten into my eye until I figured out it was the sclera.
Good times. Good times.
Wanted to go to a haunted house this year, but now that she’s playing host to my spawn, my wife insists it would be bad for the baby.

Okay, I’ve got 2 with me so far.
Who’s it going to be? Will YOU make this the Will Travis SNT or the George Pickett SNT?

I’ve discovered that kids help with the Halloween spirit. I took two of my nephews to the annual Harvest Party at a local nursery. They have a corn maze, a pumpkin patch, face painting, balloon animals, the works! And because I’m a non-trad student, my nephews’ pumpkins were free!
It was a lot of fun, but fuck am I tired. The two tend to shoot off in opposite directions of one another.
Cartoon Network is helping me with the Halloween spirit too; they’re going all out this year!
I haven’t been able to get into the spirit that much either. Maybe if I had room for a Halloween Mood Table my spirits would be up. (Which I never commented on, but that is the best idea I’ve heard all year.) I think the Christmas push has come way too early this year- I can hardly find anything Halloween-related anymore.

Because the world is running out of corn, the government is rationing it to fulfill the raw corn, creamed corn, and corn tortilla supply. They’ve made a few sacrifices, and popcorn is now made of corn substitute extraced from lice DNA and whatever is in the dumpsters behind the Olive Garden.

The Great Pumpkin was watching out for me today, it was our first anniversary, and it was cloudy, cold, and thundering nearly all day!!! Normally here in Colorado, its sunny. We get like 320 days of sun a year or some rediculous amount! Today, it felt truly Halloweeny, and it was our first anniversary to boot! Yea!
It has felt weird this year, but I think the closer we get to Halloween, the better we will all feel!

Ok, so I’m off to bed then. Check in with you folks tomorrow. One last thing before I go; on the popcorn front, I’ve always enjoyed Paul Newman’s, although I think I might be more of an Orville man, myself. I did pick up some Jiffy Pop the other day though. I’ve never tried it, and I’m looking forward to trying it out. I’m actually saving it till I sit down and watch the 20th Anniversary Monster Squad DVD I got not too long ago. Figure I’ll sit down and just make a whole little thing of it. It’ll be just the cutest little thing you ever did see. Hell, maybe I’ll even get bold and ask a girl over to share the experience with me. That’s right, ladies. Jiffy Pop and Monster Squad. Settle down, now. There’s enough to go around…
Ok, then. Goodnight. I gotta be at work at 7:30 in the damn morning tomorrow. I tell ya, spending my Saturday nights on the SNT and going to bed at 12:30. Jiffy Pop. Monster Squad. This rock and roll lifestyle is killing me.

I’m agreeing with all the non-Halloween spirit lately.
First of all, I’m pissed that the weather’s been getting cooler. The sweatshirt I have on now reminds me of Christmas than Halloween. I don’t know why.
I wanna get into the Halloween spirit, but I just don’t feel that…spark. I haven’t gotten the Halloween Jones Sodas, not many costume ideas, and I’m flatlining on pumpkin goodness. Hell, I think I listened to the new jukebox I think twice, I need to improve this.
I wish Nickelodeon would get into the Halloween spirit. I miis Nick-Or-Treat. I miss Rocko’s Modern Life’s special, I miss Doug’s, I (really) miss Invader Zim’s, hell, I miss the original Rugrats halloween episode (with the introduction of Reptar Bars). I remember the pilot of “Ahhh! Real Monsters” premiring during a Nick-or-Treat marathon!
And on the subject, yesterday (Friday) I caught the ultimate Halloween pokemon: Giratina, the Ghost/Dragon Legendary!
Yes, I waited so damn long to catch it, and he kicks so much ass. I still need a Spiritomb, though. Like everyone else, I don’t have the patience nor the popularity to talk to 32 people in the Underground.
Squee: Our collective condolences on your shitty week.

If you’re pissed about the cold weather, come down here to Texas. High today was 89. Ugh. I’ll be happy when it gets down to the 70s…
I have to wonder if Halloween REALLY used to “start” this early or we are all just rememebering what was really only 3-4 days (a week at most) of *Halloween* stuff on TV as a whole month of stuff. Childhood memories are funny things, you know…

Stupid Pokemon Diamond. I spent like 3+ hours yesterday soft resetting to try to get a shiny Drifloon (I love that Pokemon so much) but, alas, nothing. That and I’ve been trying to PokeRadar/Chain a shiny Mareep all week. I fail :( But atleast I’ll have tons of free time on the road to breed and EV train a bunch of pokemon to decimate anyone who wants to challenge me *cackle*
Also, my friend just left, so I put in The Never Ending Story because NONE of my friends like the movie for some reason…

Thank you, Raechel, for actually feeling it. I’m not kidding, the mood table is a fantastic idea. Even if you don’t actually set one up, surround yourself with the shit that would go on it, if you did.
I’ve got squeeze skulls, barrels of Edgar & Ellen slime, scary video games and movies. Just surround yourself with what makes you feel it.
Oh, and we have the sodas and the party will be in short order. Jones REPRESENT!!!

Fortunately, I don’t care about shinys. Mainly because for the most part, they screw up the color of pokes I love. I don’t want a Green Minun. Though, a pink Pachy. Hmm.

I’m just a lameass treasure hunter, that’s all. I spend half my game time down in the Underground…you should see my collection of stones and fossils. Back in the days of Silver I soft resetted over 350 times for a shiny Ho-Oh…so pretty. If you chain a certain shiny, you can often find multiples and I want several shiny Mareep…so I can breed, and so I can level one to 100 without evolving it and name it Cotton Candy because its PINK!!
Ampharos is my favorite

When I first got access to the underground, I was down there for a good solid week. I got all the stones I needed to evolve the D/P pokes (this generation is my first, so I wanted them all; and I will have them all–I’ve already got all the Pearl exclusives, Palkia, Spiritomb, and Manaphy, so I’m set as soon as I finish the story) and haven’t been back down since

Man, sorry to hear about everybody’s kinda blah Halloween season. I’ve been having a pretty good Halloween. Tonight went to a haunted house (click the link). It was pretty scary. I’m a sucker for these things, though. I scream like a little girl. People were being led out through the emergency experts, kids were crying. . .in short, it was pretty great. The big money shot was, of course, at the end. out of the darkness comes a guy with a pig mask (or whatever it is) like Amanda wears in Saw (sorry if that’s an obscure reference) and starts up the chainsaw. I screamed, elbowed my friend in the face, and ran as fast as I could. . .right into the second chainsaw wielding maniac. Good stuff.
Got a copy of Wrong Turn 2, which has been getting some surprisingly positive reviews. Haven’t watched it yet, but I think that’s next on the agenda.
Hope the season kicks it up a notch for everybody. The weather is pretty Halloweenie here. That definitely helps.
Kneg, that would be awesome. Too bad that I don’t have immediate access to WiFi so it’ll be really difficult to synchronize our trade. SN is Norbert5ca, I should be on now.
Name your Poke, I can get one. I have multiples of all the fossil pokemon. Aerodactyls? Yes! Kabutos, Omanytes, Aroriths? Yep!
I can also get you any of the last 9 starters, thanks to Gamesharking the originals in Emerald, then Pal Parking them. I don’t plan to use the originals if they are found to be hacked, but I know getting them bred is a legit way of getting them.
For stones: When you get National Dex, the stones get a LOT more common. And I mean a lot. I’ve gotten at least 20 water stones alone, even if only 5 pokemon evolve from it. Thunderstone’s the second most useless of the Evolution Stones, evolving only Eevee and Pikachu, even if both Jolteon & Raichu kick serious ass. The most useless? Definately the Sun Stone. Only evolves Sunkern to Sunflora & Gloom to Bellossom. They totally could’ve reused it for Gallade & Frosslass (Dawn Stone)!
As for Shinys…I say they’re not worth it. Too big odds. You’re morel ikely to win the $50 in the McDs Monopoly game than legitimately findong a Shiny. My friend, however, legitimately found a shiny Machoke colored gold, and is now a Shiny Machamp.
I took a trip to Wal-Mart last night to see if they had any new Halloween stuff. I nearly giggled like a school girl when I saw the skull/zombie melting candles Matt wrote about! I started opening up boxes finding only skulls in the first dozen or so, then I started finding zombies! “Hazzah!”, I exclaimed. So I had to pick up one of each…so freakin’ awesome.
I don’t know if, or when I’ll have an incling to actually fire up either of the bad boys. They just look too cool. On the other hand, they would look way cooler with waxy blood oozing from their ocular sockets and other orifices.
I also stumbled upon the most bad ass skull goblets I have ever seen in my life at Kroger during my excursion last night. Kroger for crying out loud! Their usual fare consists of happy pumpkins and giant bags of bite size Snickers bars.
It was an awesome trip to say the least!
Happy SNT everybody! And happy Halloween!!!

Oh yeah, I was inspired by Matt to construct my own Halloween Mood Table with some of my newly acquired garb. Along with some seasonal candles and a bowl of FunSize Twix, my goblets and waxy bodiless friends boost up the festiveness by 3 points on the Official Halloween Point Scaleâ„¢ that I just made up. I’m up to 3 points so far.

My shiny hunting is really only for bragging rights. The real money lies in EV/IV breeding and team building. I can’t wait to create an all-mighty, all-powerful machine team and then invite my little brother over for a Pokemon Battle Revolution showdown. Once I get a Wii that is.
When they make the follow up to the Wii…it should be called the Wii Wii. LAWLZ

No, and they should’ve, because the voice-over guy sounds like he’s saying “bad feces.” The first 50,000 times, I thought they were talking about “bad feces.” This was troubling, as I couldn’t really determine the barometer by which feces would be judged as “bad” or “good.” When I finally figured out the “bat” part, I silently mouthed, “OH! Bat feces!” And that made me feel even worse.

Matt @ 10/14/2007 2:28 AM EDT
Robot dinosaur feces, bat feces…do I detect a trend here? Matt, do you have any idea how long the skull/zombie candles last? I’d like to burn them just long enough to make the figure look as disfigured as possible to frighten those who dare glance in the direction of their unholy awesomeness!

I loved She-Ra!
I had the action figure, and one day I decided that I wanted her to look more like me.
I took a black permanent marker and colored all the long, blond hair black.
It looked great, until I realized that her super plastic hair did something weird to the marker and it never dried… it transferred all over her body and face. Her hair was a weird blah color and her body was mottled.
It sucked.
My mom wouldn’t get me a new one, either.

I think if you Google Wordpress emoticons you can find a list of the available ones. They’re just basic smilies though, use one and you’ll see it does it automatically.
I remember there was a time a few years ago when they were pushing Brady Barr (random snake bite guy) as a rival to Steve Erwin. That bat feces commercial’s been popular around here thanks to the incredibly girlie scream he lets out with. I’m laughing just thinking about it.

I’m not feeling all that Halloweeny either. I think part of it has to do with the fact that I’m working way too much at my shitty job (which I’m done with in January. If I can make it until then…).
But another part of it is, I think, the fact that a month is really a LONG time to be celebrating something. While it always sounds good in theory, I have to remind myself that I go through this sort of early-mid October funk every years. I never really get geared up for Halloween until about a week before it hits.
I dunno, though.

I guess I’m not really in the Halloween spirit, either, but I haven’t really been in the *anything* spirit lately. I’m too damn busy with work, school, schoolwork and other crap I “need” to do. No time to watch scary movies or decorate my room with random spooky crap from the Dollar Store. =( But I still plan to follow my yearly tradition of getting sick on candy corn, and I figure once it gets closer to the actual holiday and the party my housemates and I are planning (Friday the 26th, holla at me if you’re in the Bay Area and wanna come), I’ll feel more Halloweeny.

Knegative: Fuck yeah, Silent Hill. Ain’t October w/o it for me.
I too got my Halloween sprit kicked in the 9s, and it hit me friday. See, I’m in the animation department at San Jose State, which is like boot vamp for animators/illustrators (like, the profs are ppl who went to the same schools as John Lasseter of Pixar). I had to retake a class this semester (a core class), and the project hasn’t been touched in, oh, 3 weeks. And its due Wednesday. i’m supposed to render in photo quality realism a still life of (essentially) an alcoholic character I made up for the project. Every time I think of the shot glass and the brandy flask, which are both adorned with embossed diamond patterns, I get waves of nausea and panic attacks…. I can’t sleep; its why I’m posting at this exact moment. I can’t relax. >
One way we can try and breed that holiday spirit is either to remove all it’s contraception, or if we all go spooky-martha-stewart and post halloween tips.
Mine would be to put tonic water in your sea-monkey aquarium and position it near a black light. However, this will end with dead sea monkeys. Though their ghosts will probably haunt you for a while, so that’s kinda halloween.
Any other ideas out there?

I think Stinkor or whatever gets you in the mood is perfectly valid for the Halloween Mood Table. I still have my Trap Jaw figure which has Lucky Charms marshmellow stains all in his jaw from when I tried to feed them to him when I was a kid.
This is my first full weekend at the new job and I’ve found I can actually cope getting here at 7:00am on the weekends if I don’t live it up the night before and get some decent sleep. That, and coffee. Lots of coffee.
I think my Halloween spirits are picking up after reading this SNT. If only my wallet was as full of as much spirit so I could get all the decorations I really want.

Come on people, quit your whining! I know as much as the rest of you how much it isn’t feeling like it this year. But i’ll be damned if i’m just gonna lie back and take it.
If it’s not feeling as spooky as it was last year, you gotta try extra hard. You gotta dig deep and find that special something to kick start your groove and it’ll be on.
All the local farms around here have had MASSIVE pumpkin crop failure due to the weather this summer, and without the pumpkins i was considering canceling my annual halloween bash, and was deeply saddened. Then the other day after work, i went for some groceries and low and behold none other than Wal-mart had saved the day by importing a ton of pumpkins. I took of my coat and began to dig deep filling up carts to the brim, people were looking at me like i’m crazy and even the staff were coming over to ask “why so many?” but sure enough i came home and started busting out the decorations.
The partys back on, all because of pumpkins.
So i urge you people, don’t just sit on your ass, get out there and TRY HARDER to find what it is your unknowingly looking for.

I think punkin carving is just what I need. I usually put it off till the last week of Oct. just so my punkin doesn’t up and rot before Halloween rolls around but I’m kind of in the mood to do 2 or 3 of them this year. My cousin and I have a tradition every year where we put on this CD of spooky Halloween sounds and carve it up. Then we run through the woods and pretend to be headless horsemen and take pictures. Good thinking, Dan.

Has anyone ever heard of Monster Golf? It seems to be an indoor mini-golf experience, and one just opened up in the next town over from Pittsburgh. I can’t wait to go; if Monster-themed mini golf doesn’t get me in the spirit, then the spirit is dead.
Monster Golf looks pretty groovy. The closest one to here would be Merietta, GA, a bit of a drive. But if there was one nearby I’d probably check it out. They should make it so that the holes are actually the mouths of decapitated heads buried in the ground, face up.

I sent you a message on myspace last night, Norb, and I added that screen name. I’m assuming that is AIM? I already have your FC registered, from last time, iirc.
When we work it out, just bring a junk. I’ve got plenty of trades that I need to pay foward

Yeah I dunno what it is, it’s like this Halloween isn’t as dark and gruesome or something. I also said “fuck it” last night and started hitting up every Halloween shop in town. Didn’t buy anything, cuz I’m poor as fuck right now, but what can you do? I still gotta get my tickets to fucking Dracula’s Ball.
My BFF still owes me like $50 and I’m thinking of giving him the option of instead of paying me back, just taking me to either Halloweekends at Dorney Park, Shocktoberfest, or Jason’s Woods.

Thanks to whomever posted the retro crush halloween costume link yesterday! Oh man I was in my glory! i think im making my shih tzu dottie jean into a little kid for halloween. I can hit up childrens place clearance racks or so mething and find a shirt and a ball cap and sun glasses…and while im here…i’d like to start a poll
best ever or most memorable good or bad halloween trick or treat loot.
Mine was this guy giving out a dollar in pennies, and king size hershey bars, like BIG ginormous kind you get when you stay at the Hotel Hershey in PA.
I also remember this one guy in the rich side of town, he stuffed his mail box with one fives and a few twenties…my friend got a 20.

Yeah, a pumpkin patch! Man, that’ll do it. I can’t make it to a cornmaze this year T_T, but I sure as hell can slice up a giant veggie (dunno, I always considered pumpkins to be rather vegetable-ish than fruity).
Best loot? Before it became unfashionable (ie parents became way to paranoid), I got cookies, a caramel apple and those ity bity cans of soda, only they were fruity flavored and had Mario charcaters on it. My fav was Yoshi, I think, cuz its the only one I remember; it was green i think. I used to trick o treat in an older neighborhood where people used to make haunted houses inside their homes (instead of on the lawns, u’d walk through their living room to thier garage or something). You used to be able to gte handmade food then. *sigh* Those were the days.
Oh, and popcorn balls dyed orange. My granny used corn syrup instead of honey. Its like pure sex for your tongue.
I have a pumpkin patch on my block. it’s only the size of 2 house lots, but Mrs. Pumpkinhead always makes sure to make a better haunted house every year. Usually there’s a hay maze too. A little one for the kids.
Looking forward to the next Haloween countdown post!

I agree Dio and Lex, popcorn balls were the shit. I never ate one, it seemed sacreligious, like eating the holy grail of trick or treating.
What the hell is it? I was so excited for Halloween and now I’m like “ehh.” This must be stopped. I went to Halloween Superstore and looked around, that didn’t really help ecause of their lack of variety of costumes, plus I implied my girfriend was fat.
I’ll be getting a pumpkin soon, I may carve it to have Jack Skellington face or just something really spooky. Maybe that will help. I’m also going to Knott’s Scary Farm, it’s to die for. Anyone else going?

Yes, I suggest that everyone should go to a pumpkin patch sometime in the afternoon, or evening. Also, try to find some haunted houses too. Watch A Garfield, Ghostbusters, and Peanuts Halloween specials.

Matt, I know what you mean about this being a wierd Halloween season. Its the same way for me too. Im having a lot of trouble getting into the sprit.
Most of it is becuase it is my first year of college and I dont have as much free time as i did in high school.
To be honest, another part of it is that the Halloween countodwn ( which is sort of like myy version of an advent calender for halloween) a staple for me in the season, isnt around this year ( this is not directed as an insult twords you, merely an observation on my own part)
It also just seems like people just arent really into it this year.

WolfMan - our Halloween Superstore kind of sucked too, all I got was a lame coloring book, and even that was kind of forced.
The forecast for this week has highs in the 70s. What’s the point of trying to be Halloweeny in shorts?
I went to a church bazaar yesterday and bought a loaf of banana bread and a mini pumpkin pie. My mom bought a cute wooden pumpkin that lights up. Bought some nuts and jellies for my great-grandma. Mom’s been in the Halloween spirit this year.
I also bought some of that Edy’s Pumpkin Ice Cream Matt talked about. Can’t wait to eat it.

Yeah, weather probably plays a factor in all of this. We’ve had about four days of semi-fall like weather, but this week it’s back to highs in the 90’s. Halloween in Louisiana is always warmer than everywhere else, but this is ridiculous.
Can’t really get in the fall spirit when you’re running your air conditioner non-stop and sweating like crazy.

Since I am fresh out of the hospital, I am wrapped in a blanket and watching some rented DVDs. I FINALLY listened to all my friends and rented disc 1 of season 1 of Heroes. I curled up, expecting 4 episodes or so (I get 4 on every Gilmore Girls disc, and both shows are an hour) and after the 2nd episode, that was IT! Its over! What a rip-off! 2 eps??? I’m sick, here people! Dammit.
On the plus side, I liked it a lot….just wish I had a few more episodes now.

We went to a haunted house the other night. It was around 11PM and cold enough to see your breath outside. Perfect setting/atmosphere for scaring the frost out of our gf’s already frozen hearts. It was short, but really good for a haunted house attraction. Scary stuff.
We want to go to the haunted boat thing in Cincinnati next. Heard it’s pretty cool:

I baked banana bread and carved pumpkins this weekend. It was very crispy outside and I am definitely in the fall/Halloween mood. I also saw Jim Gaffigan this weekend and he was as funny as he should have been, which was very very funny. And I got to turn on my heater, which I love to do. This weekend gets an A.

Best treats we ever got, were pop corn balls from my grandma, who lived a mile down the dark road we lived on. Gradma’s house was usually about a third of the way through our trick-or-treating, it gave us a chance to warm up and gorge on home made popcorn balls! :) Then it was off for another couple of hours of trick-or-treating!
Has anyone ever used those special effects contact lenses? I want to buy some, but I am not sure who I should buy them from. Any companies online that are reputable? Comments? Suggestions? Thanks guys!

There was one guy in our neighborhood who worked for Pepsi, he gave out 12 packs between 9-10 each Halloween. It was normal candy other hours.
We had one who gave out McDonald’s certificates which was always good.
Worst?
Had to be Bit o’Honeys and (this is sure to cause some strife, but:) Popcorn Balls.
Popcorn balls are the devil! They don’t look that cool, and they taste like how I would imagine ass tastes.
It always made my brother and I groan when we got one.

That sounds like a great weekend, kb. It’s been cool enough here that we lit up the fireplace a few times, which is nice. We just got some pumpkins, and I spent the afternoon attempting to make papel picado with some old tissue paper I found lying around.
Muppet Baby, it’s funny that you would say that because I’ve got the two latest Heroes eps sitting on my recorder that I haven’t been able to force myself through. I started watching based on all the raves too and I really only love it about 25% of the time. I feel like I’ve invested too much time to give up now though.

The worst Halloween treat I ever got (and it was year after year. You think I would’ve learned my lesson at some point.) was a woman in our neighborhood who handed out miniature tubes of toothpaste and small religious phamplets.
She was nice enough, but it was like she was on her own personal crusade against everything that made Halloween cool.

My neighbors and I bought a slew of Halloween decorations for our party this coming Friday. My favorite is the 6-foot demonic clown with glowing red eyes. The thing is creepy as hell and I’m happy my neighbor is keeping him in his place and not mine. We also got a motion detector guy in a straight jacket who sits on the floor and shakes and groans whenever someone walks by him. Can’t wait to see people’s reactions to him. The fact that the weather in NJ this week is going to be full-fledged fall temperature only adds to the anticipation.

I’ve been struggling to get through the latest Heroes episodes, too. I loved the first season, but for some reason I just haven’t been too concerned with watching season two. Not sure why.

I have finally been getting into the Halloween spirit a bit too. The stress this weekend was major, but picking out a pumpkin and going to the apple orchard with my boyfriend helped me get more into the fall mood. Oh and I was at Target this weekend and on one trip my mom came with and being the nice lady she is, bought me an (very) early birthday gift. Garfield’s Holiday’s DVD!!! I must be lucky to have a mom who will still buy her 26 y/o cartoons. Oh and does anyone know where I could get a big blow up spider or some sort of other creature or animal? The bf’s parents have a huge King Kong they put on the roof each Halloween and his dad is sick of just Kong being there. Although they have a palm tree, it looked more funny then scary last year when they added the tree. Especially since it was windy so it looked like Kong was beating the thing up. So he is looking for a spider or Godzilla or something to put up there as well.

Goob I was watching when Wiggum mentioned Shamrock Shakes and having to wait until March. Then the debate of whether it’s actually minty or just vanilla with green coloring. Lou is wrong.
This year for halloween, I went to Sam’s and bought candy. I bought 3 packs of random, full size candy bars (each kid will get 1) and a humongous bag of “Wonka Mix Ups” that has Nerds, Sweetarts, Runts, Bottle Caps, and something else to offer. Snickers, Almond Joys, Butterfingers, Baby Ruths, Nerds (especially grape), and Bottle Caps were my favorite candies to get on Halloween.
I just hope kids these days are cool like that.
re: Heroes
I admit this season is a little slow but I find myself dissapointed at the end of every episode because I have to wait another week before I can watch more. I just really love the show that they could play 10 hours straight and I’d still be begging for more…..
re: Halloween spirit
across the street the neighbours put up a giant inflated pumpkin and lots of decore… they are close to the only ones who’ve done it though and normally the whole street is done up. It sort of put me in the spirit… this morning on the way home from some late night work I spotted 5 white and blue snowflakes in another neighbours window all lit up for the X-mas season… that ripped my halloween spirit away…

Primus, feel that man. Target is starting to not restock the Halloween section but instead fill in yard reindeer and pinguins.
It’s strange but I confess that I started online Christmas shopping the other night and I lit the Yankee mistole toe candle to help get me in the shopping mood. I really do have problems.

Matt #2, I’m glad I’m not the only one. Though I had the same issues in season 1, they had to go and kill off one of the biggest reasons to watch and make it even harder to justify recording it in S2. I love some of the characters (Hiro, Claire) but the show is just so tedious. Reaper and Dirty Sexy Money have both entertained me way more so far this season.
