Pumpkin Ice Cream and free Ghoul-Aid!

Quick Note #1: I believe I've corrected the coding mishap that's been causing all of the Countdown articles to look like textual mine fields on Mac computers. If you've got a Mac, please let me know if the text still looks funky. (Funky in a bad way, I mean.)

Quick Note #2: I'm back in this month's issue of ToyFare (#123) with a fairly large feature on Gobots. I had to finally train myself to not call them "Go-Bots" or "GoBots" or any other variation that looks more correct even if it really isn't. I haven't seen the issue myself yet, but God willing, nobody cut the two-paragraph aside where I gush about Rock Narlies for no good reason.

I'll be in next month's issue as well with a far spookier topic, but let's concentrate on spooky topics that are, as they say, in the now. Today's Countdown entry is about Edy's limited edition Pumpkin Ice Cream, which is one of those "little things" I point to whenever my imaginary friends ask me why I like the holidays so much.

If you're smart enough to sit on the blog hitting F5 all day long, today's your lucky day:

The first 15 people who e-mail me their name and address will receive a free packet of Kool-Aid's most unholy flavor, Ghoul-Aid.

UPDATE: All 15 packets have been accounted for. Thanks for playing. There will be more stupid contests like this throughout the season!

You posted during my American Dilemmas class… I was learning about how transgendered people were being oppressed when I could have been learning firsthand about how delicious ghastly Kool-Aid could be. =’(

Couldn’t pumpkin ice cream be considered a Thanksgiving thing too, what with the pie?

Dang…I woulda liked some Ghoul-Aid…for real. Anywho, pumpkin pie definetly has a gingerbread-like taste…cinnamon. So long as the pie hasn’t collected the pumpkin grease crap on the top of it, I loves it, only with whip cream.

Special K Braums sells pumpkin ice cream and it’s very delicious.

Matt and crew congrats on the new sponsor! I have already fulfilled your demand of buying something Halloweeny that I do not need, that being a bleeding “Halloween” (the movie) knife. $5 at Wal Mart. If you guys haven’t seen these they’re pretty cool, but old technology, the blood hides in the handle until you hold the knife down to your side. Well worth $5!

A friend of mine informed me that a small thrift store in OKC has old 80s cartoon/comic themed full sized Halloween cards. Not remakes, but actual, unsigned cards from back in the day. He-Man, Ninja Turtles (comic book style, so she said), to name a couple. I’m going over there straight after work and depending on what they are, how much they are, and how many are there, I might just clean them out, and if that’s the case I will be sending Matt a Halloween card or two. With his permission, might do something with the remaining cards similar to what he did with the Ghoul-Aid and spread the jackpot among those who would appreciate such a find.

I’m trying not to get my hopes up and I’m really hoping she’s not teasing me still about my Marvel comics t-shirt, so I will just say this is a maybe, and I will let you guys know as soon as I know something.

CRAP DAMNIT!

I actually found this back when it was first posted, but I made the mistake of looking here on a school computer, so when I pressed the email button, it caused the entire program (I was on firefox) to completly freeze. Crap. You owe me!!! :(

Whew, now that’s off my chest. I was always a transformers fan, but my cousin had a lot of the original Gobots toys, which made me really jealous and wanted them. I gotta find the new Toyfare.

Halloween/Pumpkin Ales & brews are common at microbrews here on LI, especially Blue Point & John Harvard’s.

Lol. That’s really weird. I’ve been reading through the backlog of your blog (and articles) and I just finished reading about when you gave out Ghoul-Aid as an artwork prize.

Gosh darn it, no Ghoul-Aid for me. :(

But it doesn’t hurt so much because Pumpkin ice cream is back! We went on a quest for this last year, and we finally found it at K-Mart, of all places. It was fantastic, and I can’t wait to get some this year. I did have a pumpkin pie Blizzard at the DQ a couple of weeks ago, which was very good, but I prefer this ice cream to the liquefied pie texture of the Blizzard.

Aw man! What a day to get swamped and not be able to menu -> refresh. Oh well, there’s always next time :D

See what having a full timer again does… it makes me miss X-E win…grrr….

I hope to hit Wal-Mart tonight for Halloween goodies, though

Woo! Quigley Down Under is on Encore Action! I used to love this movie when I was a kid. And it’s twice as awesome now that I realize that Professor Snape is the Evil Brit(TM).

“Edy’s” ice cream?

The brand name is supposed to say “BREYERS.”

Is this one of those regional differences, like Best Foods/Hellman’s mayonnaise?

Chestnuts roasted by Mars @ 09/20/2007 5:15 PM

Pumpkin pie can taste like gingerbread, or like pumpkin, depending on who makes it. I personally spice the heck out of mine, so it’s mostly the spices you taste.

I am much like JLAJRC in that I love all things pumpkin. I am now craving Baskin Robbins’ Pumpkin something-or-other flavor. I don’t think there are any Baskin Robbinses this far south. They better have it when I go home in October.

Chestnuts roasted by Hazzard @ 09/20/2007 5:38 PM

Edy’s is the same as Dreyer’s, both made by Nestle. Breyer’s is different.

Chestnuts roasted by Saint @ 09/20/2007 5:38 PM

Mars: Hmm… I always wondered why we would get commercials for Breyers but never any Breyers in the stores…

Chestnuts roasted by Special K @ 09/20/2007 5:38 PM

Considering that pumpkin pie spice contains cinnamon and ginger, yes, the gingerbread analogy is appropriate.

Darn it, now I really really really want a Pumpkin Spice Latte or a shake. I’ll have to finally take myself to Cold Stone next time I’m in the city.

Chestnuts roasted by Moony @ 09/20/2007 5:59 PM

Damn! I was gone all day doing responsible adult things, so I missed out on the Ghoul-Aid.

Anyway, I freaking love the pumpkin ice cream at Braum’s, even if it does kinda look like newborn baby poop. I’m gonna be working there, so hopefully I’ll get to eat some soon. Yay!

Breyer’s is indeed different from Edy’s. It is also way more awesome than Edy’s. XD

I like pumpkin pie just fine, and so I imagine pumpkin ice cream might be nice, once, in a small amount at the side of something else. But I remember getting egg nog flavoured ice cream once. I’m not a big fan of egg nog, so maybe it’s just me, but it was just way too much of a good thing. Burned my throat from the sweetness. And for some reason I’d imagine the pumpkin ice cream to be the same way. Mind you, I don’t think we have Edy’s or Dreyer’s in Canada (we have Breyer’s but that’s entirely different and I’m annoyed at them for getting rid of the all Natural Vanilla. The new “triple churned stuff is terrible and sour tasting), so for me it won’t be an issue.

There’s a local ice cream place in my area that every year makes home made pumpkin ice cream and cinnamon flavored ice cream…get the two together as an ungodly taste orgasm! woo!

I found a pic today from fall 1977, of my husband at age 5 with is friend dressed as C3PO and Darth Vader for Halloween. i can scan it if you want to use it as a back ground piece or comment on it or do something on vintage halloween costumes….seriously i liked my idea of sending in pics of ourselves as kids dressed for halloween.

I just spotted something interesting in the bathroom awhile ago. Scary Berry, Bobbin for Apples, and Candy Corn scented (candy corn has a smell?) bubble baths in the shapes of a pumpkin, a skull, and a ghost. Dad brought them home from work, but they look like something you would get at a “Bed, Bath, and Beyond” type place.

Chestnuts roasted by JLAJRC @ 09/20/2007 6:37 PM

Matt: I know as a kid, I absolutely hated pumpkin pie – so much so that my mom would make an apple pie almost specifically for me, a tradition still lasting to this day. And am I the only one that thinks apple pie tastes better after it’s been in the fridge for a few hours?

Shame I missed out on the Ghoul-Aid, been sick for the past three days so I haven’t been on-line much. Oh well, I picked some packets up on eBay not to long ago and have some chillin’ in the fridge right now.

fistpittingnork: I you find a Spidey card that your willing to trade – I’m game for some Ghoul-Aid packets….

Chestnuts roasted by jjwspider @ 09/20/2007 7:02 PM

Matt if you like the Pumpkin lattes at Starbucks you will probably like most pumpkin pies. They taste very similar.

JLAJARC, My Mother in law is crazy about the soaps, candles, smelly, shaped stuff for holidays.
She has them everywhere in every room, which is fine if you have one scent going on, but when you have several it becomes a very unappetising mishmash of scents. Yes you can get most of that stuff at Bed Bath and Beyond.

mmmmmmmmm….pumpkin ice cream.
I loved your melty witch Matt it was great!

Chestnuts roasted by Jenica @ 09/20/2007 7:04 PM

How can you not like milk? I love for that shit.

Oh my God so fucking busy this week, I’ve barely had time to do anything, let alone barely squeeze in my favorite time of the year; Matt’s countdown.

Keep it up, Matt; great stuff so far. Let’s get a few Halloween TV special reviews this year :D

Chestnuts roasted by Cotter @ 09/20/2007 7:12 PM

I won some Ghoul-Aid and I’m absolutely thrilled! But I cannot decide if I should drink it or add it to my Halloween decor (which is already in action and still growing). And if I do decide to drink it, should I mix it with water or human blood?

Chestnuts roasted by Rick @ 09/20/2007 7:22 PM

Damn sleep! See, you miss things like winning cool-as-hell looking packets of kool aid when you work nights. *sigh* There are drawbacks.

Chestnuts roasted by Ryane @ 09/20/2007 7:42 PM

Hooray! All my hard slacking off at work finally paid off as I am now a proud winner of Ghoul-aid! I can’t wait to try to explain this to my roommate when it comes :-)

I went in search of tat pump-a-kin ice cream.
Unsuccessful. Would have really hit the spot, too.
