Talking & Bleeding Skulls.

Happiness is walking through a department store and uncovering a skull-shaped "Bleeding Brains" candle...

Unhappiness is getting home, taking it out of the bag, and seeing a zombie version of said "Bleeding Brains" candle on the back of the box, which is approximately seven trillion times cooler than some everyday skull.

Happiest Possible Level of Happiness is finding out that you bought the zombie version and just didn't know it.

Can't wait to light him up. Even unused, it's one of the prettiest items gracing our living room. But, when lit, he's supposed to dribble out tons of bloody wax from his mouth, ears and eye sockets. I'd start the process now, but it seems like something I should hold off on until company comes over.

While I'm oh so happy to have lucked into my bleeding demon candle, I don't mean to infer that skulls are bad news. In fact, today's Countdown entry takes a look at one very nice skull, who talks and has blinking red eyes. Meet Talking Boris, a skull head who will say anything you tell it to say, even if it's some obscenity-laced tirade about gasoline prices.

Matt:

Would it be possible to get some banners made for the countdown that are direct links to the newest entry?
That way we could link to your site for others to enjoy the majesty that is the countdown.

Oh man, I would have so much fun with that talking skull. But no kids ever come to our house, so I guess I’d just end up trying to freak out my family. Scratch that, I’d probably just end up amusing myself by making it say inappropriate things or singing either theme or children’s songs in the robot voice.

Since it’s TLAPD, I’d probably go for the LazyTown song “You are a Pirate.” Do what you want ’cause a pirate is free…YOU ARE A PIRATE!

Ah, crap. Stoopid computer making the italicses not work. :(

Chestnuts roasted by Frakkyfire @ 09/19/2007 4:55 PM

Jack: Excellent idea! I’d use the hell outta those banners, Matt!

Frakkyfire: You should check out “The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything” by Relient K. It’s an awesomely goofy song! You’ll love it.

How about talking like an Ice Pirate?

“It’s a Space Herpie!”

Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 09/19/2007 5:36 PM

Score for Ice Pirates, damn that is a funny movie. Love those afros. I’m breaking out the pumpkin set and going to a pumpkin patch in the next couple weeks. now if it would cool down a little might feel like fall. Are we still only posting Wii codes on the one back in december?

Chestnuts roasted by RAS @ 09/19/2007 5:57 PM

there is something wonky with the text in the boris article. when i mouse-over, it gets all bold and big, which sucked when i was trying to play the imbedded video (the text got all big, so i had to page down to find the video, and when i moused-over the video, the text turned back to small, so the video was then further up on the page… it was an endless cycle until i somehow outsmarted it). anyway, not sure why no one else has mentioned it. i am using safari v. 2.0.4.

I’ve had a different sort of talking skull for a few years now. I think he’s called Jibber Jabber the Talking Skull. He’s motion activated and has a microphone built in so when you say something near him, he repeats it back a few seconds later. His yes glow red and his jaw mives as well.
He’s the star of our Halloween display. We put him on a stool outside the door for Halloween night. The kids come up, and are chattering away, and suddenly hear Jibber Jabber repeat the sounds back. So then they start saying stuff to hear it repeated.
The funniest thing is the kids who get excited and start to see what words they can get away with before their embarrassed parents take them away. Little five year olds love to hear a talking skull repeat the word “poopy!”

Mary: I’ll try to figure out why that is, but historically, this site has not worked well with Safari.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 09/19/2007 6:55 PM

I would just like to say that this year’s countdown is all kinds of awesome. It has made this sick day bearable and I look longly out the window, desperately wanting a bleeding skull.
Mary: Yeah, all the countdown articles are jacked up in safari, but work in Firefox. Oh well.

Did we ever find out where Matt got that hawsome jason Vorhees/winnie the pooh figureine? I neeeed it!

Yes Bill you do look quite smashing in that bee costume… Unfortunately that image is now replaced by you in Kinko’s running off training manuals and I can’t find the best way to put Mr. Clean in my brain fast enough lmao.. Had I a mouthful of liquid, you would owe me a new monitor.

Chestnuts roasted by Primus @ 09/19/2007 8:36 PM

I am trying out a new text code that arguably makes it look a little better on PCs…but apparently not on Macs…so I will fix. :)

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 09/19/2007 8:42 PM

I just put up my general fall decorations today. I won’t put up my out-and-out Halloween stuff for a week or two. I’m not THAT big of a Halloween fan and I don’t like to jump the gun.

While I don’t deny the talking skull and skull and especially zombie candles are cool, I won’t be buying them any time soon. I hate horror movies; zombies give me nightmares. I enjoy reading about them at X-Entertainment, but not having them around the house.

Chestnuts roasted by starwenn @ 09/19/2007 8:54 PM

If anyone can tell me what movies/shows all the clips came from on the Halloween Megamix, I would be eternally grateful.

I’m guessing it’s a homemade thing b/c I can’t find reference to it anywhere else.

Chestnuts roasted by Ben @ 09/19/2007 9:14 PM

You should post of video of the candle as it bleeds

Chestnuts roasted by Mr. Devco @ 09/19/2007 9:16 PM

man gotta get boris

Where is Kneg at? I feel like we are missing a lot of people since the kick off of the countdown. I feel like a cult recruiter. “You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.”

Chestnuts roasted by Bill @ 09/19/2007 9:24 PM

OK, just cause we’re missing folks. And I don’t wanna do a paper thats due tonight. Wait, tonight? Why am I here? Doh!

Chestnuts roasted by Terror Claws Cole @ 09/19/2007 9:39 PM

yeah,i miss Knegative’s comments too!
i’m an X-E addict but have never posted a comment before…
guess i’m Kneg’s biggest fan…hope that doesn’t freak him out…

What we need is some kind of virtual leg bracelet thingy with which to track people when they go MIA.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 09/19/2007 9:46 PM

Glad other people are noticing the incredible nuclear growing text in Safari, I was afraid it was just my computer… all the Halloween articles have been that way. Took some crafty mouse maneuvering to get into the blog. :D

Chestnuts roasted by Dragonstorm @ 09/19/2007 9:55 PM

I shall fix that shortly on all of the articles. Sorry! Definitely let me know if you encounter bugs like that, because whenever I touch code, it turns to ruin.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 09/19/2007 9:57 PM

Much appreciated! At first I thought it was a new Halloween trick for the site!

Chestnuts roasted by Dragonstorm @ 09/19/2007 10:00 PM

Bill Thanks for posting that picture, I am sitting over here now…

Great Candle! And that voice changing skull sounds like he has had too much to drink!

And don’t you hate it when they have those cheap boxes with pictures on all sides of the products of that line and it has one of those small black and white check boxes in the bottom corner telling you which one you have? I hate those. I have the lost boys downloaded on this computer I just haven’t gotten around to watching it. I wanted that to be my kickoff of the Halloween season this year but too many other things to do and when I can sit still for a while I have tv shows to watch. I can watch the lost boys anytime but the shows on tv are only on at a certain time so lost boys shall wait. We got a bag of Hershey’s miniatures last night at walmart for some reason those remind me of old people. I think those are the only people I see with a candy dish full of them. And out of the random handful I got I didn’t get any mr goodbars so I had to trade that piece with a special dark piece with my best friend. I told him well you could just give me a mr goodbar piece instead of trading and he said no in a very serious voice. It’s just one more tiny piece geez :(

Matt will probably not comment or say no but I could totally do a Halloween countdown banner. It should link to the countdown’s main page. I have been photoshoppin’ lately and I enjoy it. I don’t kick major ass at it but I think it’s not tacky looking like some people.

Thanks for thinking of us little ol’e Mac-Heads, Matt! It’s much appreciated…
