Bag Of Skulls.

The woman enjoys autumn much the same as me, but for her, I have to think it's at least partly due to my increased agreeability to random trips to Michaels. If you don't live near one, Michaels is a chain of arts & crafts stores. I've already complained about the woman's obsession with this place, and it hasn't let up.

During the Halloween season (Christmas too, to a lesser extent), I only raise my Michaels hate flag at half-mast, because the chain offers a spooky smorgasbord of booing bric-a-brac, and it's often stuff that none of the other stores around here carry. They also get a gold star for being one of the first places in town to sell anything Halloweeny, and the proof is in the blood pudding: It's barely September, and I'm already buying bags of skulls.

(click here to see the WHOLE bag!)

In fact, that's what the product is officially titled. "Bag Of Skulls." The shoe (or skull) fits, as it's five bucks worth of little menacing skulls neatly nestled in a black net sack -- which itself has a bunch of smaller skulls built in! So many skulls!

What I really dig (ha!) about them is that they don't kowtow to society's usual call for all toy skulls to look perfectly gregarious. These are some seriously mean-faced skulls. After closer inspection, I noticed that they all have gigantic fangs, so they're not even supposed to be human skulls. It's a bag of monster skulls! I was on the fence about buying these, but a sack of monster skulls is definitely worth a fiver.

I can't find my giant Spider-Man figure, but picture him palming one of these babies. Totally sincere Shakespearean Yorick pose just waiting to be designed. I so need to do it. Where'd I put that guy?

No, I don’t refer to her as “the woman” in real life. In real life, I call her by her given name. Shabaniqua.

Oh, and Magic Toy: Bullseye! I rarely refer to my friends or co-workers or family by name online, here or elsewhere.

Being able to say “I’m going down to the craft store to pick up a Bag of Skulls” is too awesome for words.

Heh heh, good to hear it Matt.

And I totally missed your post, Magic Troy, because I am both blind and senile. But good point.

Is there no Venture Bros. love? :(

The best part of Nick Arcade was the host, Phil Moore.
His improvising songs to the theme music and time-up music.
Brilliant. That shit was so ridiculous.
One I recall was “I got back first ’cause I ran a little faster, doo doo doo doo doo da da da!”

You know the hosts of so many of those shows – Nick Arcade, Legends of the Hidden Temple, etc. – went home every night and drank themselves to sleep. You can tell they hated it. Doesn’t it suck that Nick GAS is getting (has already gotten?) the boot? Get the Picture was on there too.

OK so I have not tried my new Hippie Soda yet for reasons I am almost afraid to admit on here. I have actually quit soda (covers head and ducks to avoid being pelted).

With all this talk about old TV shows, I ought to bring up something I heard on the radio today:

NBC IS REVIVING AMERICAN GLADIATORS.

They’re holding open auditions for Gladitors and contenders at the Gold’s Gym in Venice Beach, for you folks here in SoCal.

Chestnuts roasted by Thomas @ 09/05/2007 8:02 PM

Yes folks you too can be the new Nitro!!

Chestnuts roasted by Dan @ 09/05/2007 8:14 PM

American Gladiators will never reach its true potential until they build several robot Nerf lions.

Chestnuts roasted by Jedoc @ 09/05/2007 8:41 PM

I found more information on American Gladiators casting online. Just go to http://www.nbc.com/casting to see a list of dates and places for auditions. Someone here should try out and report back (not me).

Or they could use real lions and make it a true “Elininator” challenge.

Chestnuts roasted by Dan @ 09/05/2007 8:55 PM

Cricket, I quit soda too. So you’re not alone. I actually feel a whole lot better since I started drinking water all the time.

FINALLY got back on here today after a looooong day at work, where I got cursed out in French and hung up on. Granted, part of my job is to speak to French speaking Canadians on the phone all day, getting cursed out in French is just no fun (if you’re cursed out in French, does that bring new meaning to the phrase, “excuse my French?”)

Anyways, as far as Blade, yeah it was good but had no one from the movies in it. It did have a badass little girl who looked about 10 or 11 but was actually several hundred years old and was supposed to be one of the few purebread vampires left. She was pretty much treated like royalty and everyone was really scared of her. She had a bodyguard carry her around everywhere on his shoulder and was just super badass.

As far as Adult Swim goes, I think it kind of has gone downhill in the past few years, but for some reason I’m really fascinated by The Tim and Eric Awesome Show (kind of funny but mostly disturbing) and I can’t get enough Squidbillies. I think it’s one of the funniest things on TV ever…ever. Maybe it’s because I’m in the south and it kind of rings true, I think it’s freaking hilarious.

Dresden Files got cancelled?? News to me! That sucks! I really liked it!

Does anyone else remember Misfits of Science (with a teenage Courtney Cox) and a show called Otherworld? I think there was only like 8 episodes, but I remember watching it. It was about a family that somehow went through a portal and ended living in an alternate dimension of Earth.

I don’t think I should even get started on comics. I’m a bonafide comic geek with a severe Batman obsession, making my weekly visit to the store every single stupid Wednesday for many years now.

Man, now I’m really looking forward to American Gladiator coming back. Not because I’m going to watch it on a regular basis, but because Robot Chicken or someone will probably end up doing a skit with a Roman gladiator going on the show. “WHO WILL COME AND FACE MY BULGING SHINY MUSCLES AND GIANT NERF Q-TIP AND oh, I’m terribly sorry, I seem to have gotten my entrails on your shoes. My bad. Blaaaargh.”

Chestnuts roasted by Jedoc @ 09/05/2007 10:17 PM

Chestnuts roasted by Andrew @ 09/05/2007 10:31 PM

I was wondering what happened to you Andrew

Chestnuts roasted by Dan @ 09/05/2007 10:33 PM

Wha?? Okay, I’m changing the spam settings now. Andrew, please e-mail me if something is working buggy for you. You’re like the tenth person this week!

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 09/05/2007 10:34 PM

My underrated show? Space Cases. (Thank you, JLAJRC for listing this one.) Actually, I agree on most of the shows you guys have listed. Like Home Movies- all my friends hate that show, and I don’t know why. Good calls, people.

Chestnuts roasted by Rainbowfeet @ 09/05/2007 10:42 PM

Chestnuts roasted by Dan @ 09/05/2007 10:49 PM

Chestnuts roasted by Andrew @ 09/05/2007 10:50 PM

Yep. It’s been a long one! I do have to thank Matt for not booting me off for posting too much though. Being here helped today be tolerable.

Chestnuts roasted by Dan @ 09/05/2007 10:51 PM

It’s cool. Just try to remember to let everyone get a word in! :) We try to avoid two-way conversations. Sno prob, tho.
