My dying wish is for an owl/camel hybrid, which I call camowl.

BOOGAZ.

Narrowly managing to fend off the pen-and-pad-clad masses as I entered Toys 'R' Us with my newfound fame, I dodged the vile paparazzi hanging near the back-to-school section and made my way to the clearance racks.

Sadly, clearance racks aren't what they used to be. When I was a kid, I'd get things like the Wheeled Warriors accessory sets -- each with two rubbery "Monster Minds" brains -- for eight cents a pop. Whereas "clearance" used to roughly equate to "please get this shit out of our store," now it's just a clever way of saying, "this is on sale." It's a bit of a crapshoot, but sometimes, you win out:

These toys are so not my style, but I have to admit a certain appreciation for Boogaz, a gross-out toyline made by Moose Enterprises. Moose apparently has like twenty-thousand tons of sticky/slimy toy material, as this is no less than their eighteenth attempt to market toys that make use of such materials in the past few years.

The disgusting concept: Kids purchase plastic noses (or large picking fingers, which are pricier) that are stuffed with copious amounts of ooze, and at least one official Boogaz figure. There are 24 figures in all to collect, and some are rarer than others. Borrowing liberally from the Monster In My Pocket series, the figures are assigned point values to help us understand which are "common," "rare" or "glowing ultra rare." My kingdom for a "glowing ultra rare" Boogaz figure.

The fun's in the mystery. When you buy a nose, there's no telling which figure might be inside. The package also states that one out of every six noses has two figures lurking among the hidden ooze. Moving past the off-putting notion that this is a toy collection dedicated to snot, I kinda like the cut of its jib. Hope I pick a winner...

Damn. While "Sir Picks Alot" is worth a respectable nine points, he's still a common figure, delivering nowhere near the level of glory of, say, the forty point "Skummy Mummy."

Once you get the loose slime off (harder than it sounds), the figures serve as strangely-shaped Wacky Wall Walkers -- you can splat 'em against the nearest wall, and if the gods decide to take pity on you, they'll do their little gooey vertical catwalk much to the delight of dimwits and house cats everywhere.

The slime itself counts as a toy, and to really push the idea that it's snot, it's really watery slime. Much different from normal toy slime fare. There's really no way to get it all back in the nose container once you yank it out, and I eventually had to give up and wash my hands clean. I don't like it when toys create a need for me to wash myself, but since I'm getting to pull rubbery medieval knights out of noses, I'm gonna give this one a pass.

This is probably a minority opinion, but I like Boogaz toys. Gonna marry 'em.

Happy SNT.

Or you can watch the killer mutant turtles flick (that’s what they looked like to me, at least) “Humanoids from the Deep” on IFC tonite at 11:00 pm central.

Who’s Vanity? Name sounds sorta familiar but I can’t place it.

I saw Underdog last night. It was cute, but like many of my age, I’d rather have the original cartoon I couldn’t wait to see after school. I didn’t expect a lot, after seeing how Disney treated Inspector Gadget.

ColonelCatsup: The Marvel Zombies vs Army of Darkness series ran five issues and was well worth the pick up. Somehow, nothing is as interesting as seeing a Zombie Capt. America debating the morality of his “hunger”.

DoubleG: Very cool McD’s rap video – pretty well done.

Wasn’t Vanity associated with Prince in some way?

I am trying to get rage against the machine tickets for tonight…so if anybody has any extras, let me know!

I guess I should say…if the two other people in Wisconsin have any extras, let me know!

Anyone else wondering when Matt is going to give us a new entry so we can stop picking his Boogaz to death!??! Oh wait, he did say he wanted to marry ‘em so perhaps they have been on their Honeymoon all this week! Se Lamour!

On another note I picked up the Essential Cyndi Lauper CD today and I am loving it. I also picked up 2 Linkin Park CD’s but by far I am loving my 80′s music more. I think I might get some Banarama and Go-Go’s next!

I heard that Linkin Park cds sound better after you pop them in the microwave for about 10 seconds. Like a Krispy Kreme. Seriously though, who the fuck decided that Linkin Park was a good band deserving of any popularity at all?

For all those at home watching Halloween on AMC here is some little known facts:
-The character of Lori Stode is named after John Carpenter’s first girlfriend
-Micheal’s middle name is Audery
-Micheal’s mask is really William Shatner’s mask from the movie devil’s Rain
-When they are watching TV later on and the voice says, “Lock your doors, bolt your windows..” is from John Carpenters film The Fog.
-The dorky kid is Jason Bateman from Arrested Development and Teen Wolf 2

I’m having a winner of a Friday night.

Chestnuts roasted by Bill @ 08/24/2007 10:29 PM

Hahaha, Gripp. Tell it like it IS! Also, I’m going to double post most likely, because I’ve to go check something in the archives, but I just want to say HOLY SHIT, The Colonel posted. I am shocked.

Also, Colonel, the only Ash I care about is from Pallet Town :D

Norbert, I’ve got your Cherubi if you still want it. You can just give me a junk for it. I still need to pay foward that Manaphy deal.

Actually I made up the fact Jason Bateman was in Halloween. I think that was a urban legend that was in my head.

Hey, speaking of Halloween (the movie), what does eveyone think about the new Rob Zombie remake that’s coming out? Personally, I’m pretty excited but there are a lot of things that I can see from the preview that bug me. Kid Michael especially bugs me – he looks like one of those really annoying bratty kids. The long hair on both that one and the adult Mike are kinda off-putting too.

But it’s all good, because they’ve kept the sheet-with-sunglasses scene. Love it. *big grin*

Chestnuts roasted by Frakkyfire @ 08/24/2007 11:47 PM

Btw, thanks for the heads up about AMC tonight!

Sorry for the double post.

Chestnuts roasted by Frakkyfire @ 08/24/2007 11:49 PM

I expect nothing less than perfection. Zombie has proved in his earlier films he’s dead on with picking up movie themes (shown in his 70′s “exploitation” films House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects). I respect him a lot for those movies and I know he won’t fuck it up. I’m going opening night :D .

Chestnuts roasted by Cotter @ 08/24/2007 11:58 PM

I probably won’t see Halloween in theatres, but I’m a little wary of the movie because it’s going to “explain” how Michael got so F’ed up. For me, part of the allure of Michael’s character is that he is pure evil. There is no explanation needed. He’s just…evil..

Chestnuts roasted by Cameron T. @ 08/24/2007 11:58 PM

Yeah, I like the whole ‘he was just evil’ thing too. I think I’ll think of this new movie as an alternate universe kind of thing. Of course, movies 4-6 exist in a different universe from H20 and Resurrection anyway, so there is a precedent of alternate Halloweens. To be honest, I like to pretend H20 and Resurrection don’t exist anyway. :)

Chestnuts roasted by Frakkyfire @ 08/25/2007 12:23 AM

Cameron T. I totally agree. But if Cotter will tip his hat to Rob Zombie then I will give it a fair shake.

Chestnuts roasted by Bill @ 08/25/2007 1:11 AM

I’m glad the Colonel made me watch Halloween now. At least I’ll have some basis for comparison. He was shocked that I hadn’t seen any of them, so in return for me seeing Halloween he had to watch Advent Children.

Chestnuts roasted by Knegative @ 08/25/2007 1:29 AM

yea vanity was a singer with prince and she was also an actress

-When they are watching TV later on and the voice says, “Lock your doors, bolt your windows..” is from John Carpenters film The Fog.

didn’t the fog come out a couple years after halloween?

Chestnuts roasted by worldofbong @ 08/25/2007 11:08 AM

Worldofbong: You are completely right. I think John Carpenter liked that tag line and used it for the trailer to The Fog in 1980. Either that or they edited in a couple years later to advertise for the movie when Halloween was re-released back into theaters.

Chestnuts roasted by Bill @ 08/25/2007 11:19 AM

So is anyone else mildly skeptical about the Halloween remake?

Chestnuts roasted by Annette @ 08/25/2007 12:38 PM

Last night I attempted to watch Halloween for the first time straight through. Now, I’ve seen the entire movie, just at different starting points and times. However, after Michael walked into the room in his Charlie Brown ghost costume the long week caused me to collapse. maybe some other day.

But we are really excited to see the new version….

Chestnuts roasted by Shuanfu @ 08/25/2007 12:42 PM

i’m somewhat skeptical about the remake, i think zombie occasionally has good ideas here and there but so far hasn’t produced a film that was completely solid the whole way through.

i’ll def check it out opening weekend and i’m interested to see what he does, but i don’t have my hopes up. i think he has a good movie in him somewhere though.

Chestnuts roasted by worldofbong @ 08/25/2007 1:39 PM

Now, if Zombie would remake “Season of the Witch,” that could be something. The synthoids would be a hell of a lot more squishy, for one thing. I really want to hear a rock version of the Silver Shamrock jingle, either from the Z hisself, or even Dethklok.

Chestnuts roasted by kingklash @ 08/25/2007 2:10 PM

67 more days till Halloween,
Halloween, Halloween.
67 more days till Halloween,

The new young Micheal Myers looks like the drummer from Hanson.
