Summer Megaparty: Doritos Collisions!

I'm sick as a dog. Maybe I should bark. I'm not really sure how to define my latest disease; I'm achy and alternating between massive chills and sweating like a mofo, but I don't have a temperature and I'm not sneezing or anything. Perhaps I'm being punished by a higher power for dodging work all day to catch up on Entourage reruns. Drama, you card.

Fortunately, the woman called on her way home to inform me that I wouldn't need to stress too hard about today's blog post, as she picked up two perfect little somethings that are just right to gush about when your soul is only at half-mast. Shake hands with Doritos Collisions!

I'm a little surprised that Doritos would try something this unusual so soon after those X-13D mystery chips, but at least these are palatable for more than their novelty factor.

Summing up the idea, you get two distinct Doritos flavors in each bag. I love how the packaging design is split down the middle, but don't take that to mean that you're getting compartmentalized chip flavors -- once you rip the bag open, the chips are all mixed together. I was hoping for the chip equivalent of Nintendo Cereal System, but no such luck.

To make sure the two flavors remain distinct even when swimming together, Doritos has picked two pairs of totally non-dilutive flavors. One of the Collisions "sets" includes "Hot Wings" and "Blue Cheese" Doritos, while the other blends "Zesty Taco" with "Chipotle Ranch." Note that the pairings weren't arbitrary -- the flavors were designed to compliment each other.

The pairings work really well and keep your tastebuds alert. I've gotten into the habit of closing my eyes before pulling out each chip, trying to guess the flavors before putting 'em to my tongue. This is how people stay amused when they're shut-in losers.

It's strange to think about all of the random, strange junk food spinoffs to arrive in recent years, especially if you grew up during a time when every arriving flavor was treated like the second coming of Christ. I think that's mostly due to the fact that watchdogs have "forced" society to cut the balls off of junk food advertising. You'll rarely see Doritos advertised during children's programming, and when you finally do catch a commercial, you're often left wondering why in the fuck Frito Lay would buy time for a Doritos ad during that particular show. So, instead of relying solely on that, they've gone viral -- the weirder and less coherent a brand is, the more people like me will tell people like you about it.

Doritos Collisions are a neat idea overall. They're also the only bags of chips that remind me of the Face/Off movie logo.

I want to take...his face...off.

I really hate to ask, but I’m getting desperate.

Does anyone here have any idea what I should call a blog I’m starting that’s somewhat retro-themed? If you give me some advice, I’ll be your friend :(

Jumpin Jack Cheese Doritos sound familiar, but I feel like it was mid-90′s. Maybe I’m thinking of something different.

invader norbert-
basically it’s different incarnations of vinegar, chilis, water, and other crap, there is boiling involved. basically there is a process to get capsaicin out of chili peppers, this is what makes them hot. then you can add varying degrees of flavor and levels of heat. it’s such a cool idea, definitely go through with it.

don’t mean to double post, but there is guaranteed a wiki page about it, and there is a HUGE chili freak population out there. there is basic recipes all over the place and then you can just change it.

I stand corrected. It was 1990.

On a side note related to the Nintendo Cereal System, has anybody tried Fruity Cheerios? I think they taste EXACTLY like the Mario cereal. Every bite takes me back to when I was five.

I’ll definately keep an eye out for these Doritos, if it ever comes here.

Speaking of flavor combinations, I saw something called “Pop-Tart Splitz” at Family Dollar the other day. It’s a pop-tart that’s half strawberry, half blueberry. Didn’t buy it though.

Those actually sound kind of awesome. I hope I find some soon.

Wow, Bill. That’s messed up. Congrats on the end of that ordeal.

Nork: I’m rockin’ some Full House right now. What ever happened to “The Gibler”?

Rainbowfeet: It’s cool. I got to wear handcuffs, got a mugshot and met really interesting people while sitting on a stainless steal bench for a few hours. Something to write about.

She was on one or two of last night’s episodes.

One was where she borrows her brothers car “Wild Thing” and it’s 91ish Chevy Caprice painted bright green and orange or something like that. Her, DJ, Steph, and Michelle get locked out of the car at an intersection making fun of “nerds on foot”. Then along comes Danny on a bicycle… Classic.

According to imdb.com, she’s married and lives in the UK.

Matt, you’re always getting sick. I suggest hand sanitizer and vitamin c pills. I use both religiously and I can barely remember the last time I was sick. I also smoke like a chimney and drink my ass off…so something I’m doing is working.

oh something like that??

Bill eesh sorry buddy my Best friend got a speeding ticket a couple of years ago, he was just going with traffic and the police officer pulled us over and gave him a ticket. Later like 6 months later (we were having money problems and couldn’t come up with like 160 bucks outta nowhere) he was changing his address on his driver’s license and they told him because of lack of payment his license was in the process of being suspended. We came up with the money and I swear less then a month later he got another ticket (the last time he got a ticket was in the 70′s before this) because he didn’t stop at a yield sign. I was with him both times in the car, the police officer said he had room but my best friend said that he didn’t.

I have trouble coming up with an opinion I am upset but I also want to become a police officer someday so I feel I can’t say the guy wasn’t doing his job even though the whole thing was stupid. The WHOLE thing from the very beginning. Even with you Bill. But I just tell myself I am going to be one of the good cops that does their job right and not one of the ones that give the force a bad name. And I’ll keep on telling myself that.

I also promise if someone on here says something stupid like I did a bong hit last night I won’t say a effin’ word.

C’mon Bill we all know that is just the cover story; what really happened? ;)

Chestnuts roasted by Shuanfu @ 07/18/2007 2:09 AM

Are they kind of like Jell-O pudding packs with the three layers, or less organized? You know, they probably did have some sort of system before they got shipped. The traveling around in the trucks and grocery store stockers probably made them blend into holy hell. It’s thoughts like these that keep the world in check. =D

Chestnuts roasted by Ben @ 07/18/2007 2:22 AM

Goob: I don’t blame the cop. He was pretty cool and he didn’t even want to arrest me. What can you do?
How’s the job coming? Any news yet?

Shuanfu: I wish there was, pal. I always told myself that if I went to jail it would be for something cool like civil disobedience or a rowdy bar brawl. This was really a lousy way to get thrown in the pokey.
By the way, there was a huge cooler full of grape kool-aid for the inmates in the cell. So that was nice.

Sorry to hear the health and internet woes. I had a similar office bug, except there was a cough that went along with it. It’s still hanging around, actually.
Isn’t it great when Drama comes out a winner? Those are always my favorites.

Chestnuts roasted by squee4242 @ 07/18/2007 2:35 AM

Bill that’s good you don’t blame it on him, I think. I called yesterday and they said that the criminal background check is still going through and not to worry they still have me on file (she looked for my file while she was talking to me on the phone, and didn’t find my criminal background check in there) I said well I am freaking out that you guys forgot me and she said they just won’t call me until they want to tell me to get my butt in there. It’s about an hour walking distance from here, I am trying to get my bike fixed so I can go there on my bike to save time and not to sweat as much. I want to get in shape (like you know Bill I want to get into the army next year) so it’s a win win in a way. Thank you for caring Bill your one of my favorite online friends, seriously :)

I think we should all have a skype video chat someday. That would be so sweet. Not Matt exactly but all of the regulars chit chatting.

Matt: i’m taking Microbiology this summer….ughhh dumbest Idea I’ve ever had. And am interested as to what germ you have:) I wish I could take a sample and innoculate it and grow it in a culture to find out what you have!!! Come on this class is so BS and so hard (i need a B for my grad school) and I’ll I will get from it to use in life is to wash my hands alot. So might as well help you out too… before all my micro-bio knowledge leaves me.

Chestnuts roasted by Benjamin @ 07/18/2007 3:05 AM

Holy shit. The last Harry Potter book isn’t even OUT yet, and the assholes are already coming out of the woodwork to post huge blinking-font posts on internet groups spoiling everything that happens. It’s that kind of shit that makes me hate most group interaction online. Thank God we don’t have cockthirsty bastards like that here.

Chestnuts roasted by Mystie @ 07/18/2007 3:28 AM

Hey Matt… fell better soon bro. If it makes you feel any better, I actually did have mono once for an entire year. Well, not quite a year. Sorry Wayne Campbell. I only had it for about nine months (December of my Sr. year in high school through my first month or two of college). Doctor said it had turned into chronic fatigue syndrome. At my lowest point I was going to the doctor to have tests done on my stomach because I always felt sick. It was a fun time. Ultrasounds on your stomach are a blast at seventeen.

On to better news… I FINALLY saw Transformers and Live Free or Die Hard tonight at the Drive-in.

I can’t help it… I absolutely LOVE going to the drive-in. Nothing beats fighting off mosquitos while downing smuggled alcohol and eating junk food. The junk food selections of the night were Coca-Cola, a concession stand hot dog, and some cheddar cheese pretzel Combos. Mmmm.

Chestnuts roasted by Magic Toy @ 07/18/2007 3:35 AM

In case anyone cares, here is the website to the drive-in that I frequent. It is straight out of 1996. I guess that seems appropriate for a retro-themed drive-in.

Click on my name.

Sick and on dial-up is worse than just plain sick. Matt’s a real trouper to still update through this.

I’m back to the land of the living, but I was just sick as well.

***Nasty Sick Description Nasty Sick Discription***

So, I come home after a day of class to sleep off an allnighter. That goes splendedly. I just got up at 3. Weeell, apparently my body forgot how to handle gas, so I was on the crapper, spitting shit up on the rug. Like, imagine those little vials they have in Gas-X demonstrations. Now imagine one the size of my chest, and its contents on the floor in front of me. BLECH.

Time Warner does suck my internet blanks out all the time and I just unplug the router and every thing’s honky dory. Being sick sucks…and so does waking up after a week’s long insomnia catches up with you. Just slept for 20 hours straight…47 missed calls from my girlfriend and 10 frantic voicemails…I’d call her but its 6 am and I think she’s still sleeping…she is going to be so pissed when I tell her I’ve just been sleeping this whole time.
