Summer Megaparty: Jolly Rancher Soda!

Jolly Rancher soda has been out for around a year now, so I'm far from the first to report on it. However, I do not care!

The world, or at least, the small fraction of the world personally affected by upstart sodas, got all up in arms last year when Jolly Rancher: The Candy became Jolly Rancher: The Soda. It seemed like a disgusting notion to most, and if you read some of the reviews, it was also a disgusting notion in practice.

The soda brand kicked off with the several typical flavors found in a pack of Jolly Ranchers, and that might've been the problem. If you're basing a soda on straight-up cherry Jolly Ranchers, it's going to be one sour pool of liquid hell. But the newer flavor I have here -- "Cinnamon Cherry Fire" -- seems like an admission from the company that you can't make a good tasting straight-up Jolly Rancher soda. "Cinnamon Cherry Fire" is a strange flavor for a soda, but it's far from a Jolly Rancher.

I'm happy to report that the revised lineup of Jolly Rancher soda flavors are a lot better than the old ones were said to have been. "Cinnamon Cherry Fire" isn't something I'm ever going to drink again, but when you dive into a soda expecting to write a review filled with "cherry vomit!!" hyperbole and whatnot, it's pretty refreshing to just think it's not very good.

Then again, I've never been a fan of fruity sodas. They're fun to look at, and if I ever want to film a spoof on the Star Wars cantina scene, they'd be nice to have around for legit-looking prop cocktails. Drinking them is another matter, and I'm admittedly biased.

All in all, discard whatever vision of the flavor you may have, and settle on this one: "Cinnamon Cherry Fire" tastes exactly like Big Red juice. You know, the gum. Smells like it, kinda looks like it, and definitely tastes like it. Still, despite the fact that the human jaw contains the only muscles in the human body that do not require exercise, I'd rather chew Big Red than drink it.

And that's the scoop! This is Matt, signing off live from the field, using a soda bottle in place of a microphone.

Congrats early or belated depending on how you look at it Manimal.

As far as how I found X-E, I typed 80′s ads on google and X-E popped up. I knew I had found my new favorite website. Like the rest of you it is nice to find others who can recall useless knowledge in an instant.
For example at work a friend of mine asked me what the name of battlecat was before he turned into battlecat. I said “uhhhhh Cringer” to which the person who asked me replied “I should hit you for knowing that.”

Sorry for the double post, but I figure as long as we’re doing requests is there anything that links to those old G.I. Joe catalogs? Even though I was more likely to play with Optimus and company, I recall scouring over those things as if my life depended on it.

Haven’t posted in a while, but I’m still here reading everyday.

Considering some of us have been coming here for damn near a decade, I have to say Matt, all your articles are fantastic, and hysterical. I love going back and reading the old stuff as well as the new stuff, and I become a sad panda when the “Next Article” button take me to the home page.

Peach Jolly Ranchers are the best.

Manimal:

Good luck with the baby, and if your review of Transformers doesn’t boil down to saying it was the greatest movie in the history of this physical universe, I might have to cry myself to sleep tonight.

Debbil-man may be a rebellious so-and-so, but he’s still part of the Creation, so he still has to follow some rules.

Janos Skorzeny was not the father of them all.

Marvel is bringing back Thor, and rebuilding Asgard here in Oklahoma. We got runestones. That might have something to do with it. Not to mention J M Strazynski is doing the writing.

….And then Bender ran!

I found this site because I was trying to track down information on Inhumanoids toys. Then I thought “This dude does, says, and thinks some the same stupid shit I do!” and I started reading his other articles. Matt still seems to know more about Inhumanoids than anybody I’ve ever known, I thought there were more of us, but I guess not.

Before you know it, I started from the very beginning and read every article and blog in chronological order.

I would mostly read these articles at work, so I couldn’t invest a lot of time doing so in one sitting, so it took probably close to a year and a half to read through everything.

Seeing as last week he couldn’t even remember the original movie or enter TF conversations, I’d start stocking up on tissues :P

This is off-topic, but I was in a Family Dollar today and I saw something there that I’ve never seen anywhere else (of course, it’s probably because I wasn’t paying attention until then.)

They had something called Pop-Tarts Splitz. It’s a pop-tart that is half strawberry, half blueberry. I’ve only seen it there.

Also, I was in Wal-Mart today and bought something called Oreo Cakesters. Haven’t tried it yet, but it looks like a Chocodile, but in a Oreo shape. (am I the only one the gets the various Little Debbie products names confused constantly? I can’t tell a ring ding from a yodel without looking at the boxes)

As for one looking back at articles, a couple of years ago during Halloween Matt had a page that had links to various other articles. One of the articles was the 69th article he wrote. Then I simply pressed the backwards and forwards buttons to read the articles in order. Of course, not everything was available, but it took me a good two months reading everyday to read the stuff that was. This included the old Animalia section.

They can be pretty damn frequent actually, like when you have one in Feb on non-leap year you get two in a row.
