Summer Megaparty: Happy 4th!

I'm recovering from an all-night pre-4th bender, so this will be brief. Happy 4th of JOO-LIE! (And to those of you in other nations, happy Wednesday!) We don't have anything planned for the rest of the day, and I'm just now realizing that I completely forget to pick up gigantic steaks yesterday, leaving me with nothing to grill but a couple of bell peppers and a red onion. So, no barbecue...no fireworks...I'm the worst American ever.

On the other hand, traditions come in all shapes and sizes. What's that I'm seeing on my television set at this very moment? A motherfuckin' Twilight Zone marathon. Yes! And God is on my side today, because I caught it just at the start at one of my very favorite episodes, "Eye of the Beholder." You know the one. Bandaged freak girl stuck in a hospital having multiple reconstructive surgeries to look normal...but when the bandages come off, it's a SWERVE!

...because in this world, being beautiful means looking like a cross between a pig and "Influence" from Dick Tracy. There's a lot of great episodes left in the marathon, which runs until 5 AM on the Sci-Fi Network. Check it out if all Independence Day means to you is a license to do nothing.

Also, today's a good day for a look back at the "Cherry Cracker" Kool-Aid review -- one of the world's only Independence Day-themed beverages.

I effin’ hate it when the 4th falls in the middle of the week like this. Another holiday … another blow-out fight between my brother and my folks … yea holiday! Oh well, such is life in the Lemur clan.

I’ve been watching the Project Runway marathon all day, and I’m kinda pissed that TNT or TBS didn’t show Gettysburg the way they used to. Nothing like 4 hour long Civil War movie to blow through a day of leisure. Enjoy the rest of the day, folks.

There’s a Sopranos marathon on A&E, too. I love marathons.

By the way, Matt, New Order is great!

Yes! Marathons are awesome. Good or bad, they pull you in. I watched a marathon of “Beauty and the Geek” once and I still don’t know why.

That’s one of the few Twilight Zone episodes I’ve actually seen, and definitely one of the best.

Apparently I gave this message way after today’s post, so I’ll simply rewrite it here:

Knegative, Shuanfu, and I think Me, thanks for your help! I did watch the MatrixPrime reviews for both and decided to get Ironhide. So as soon as the nearest Target, Wal-Mart, Toys’R'Us or whatever store has these is open tomorrow, I’ll go pick him up. Also, I want to apologize for my earlier transgression against the Autobots by considering Starscream. (even if he is a fighter jet, which is what got me to love him as a kid from just seeing the toys)

Don’t get me wrong, I like Twilight Zone and all, but damnit, I was all set to watch a brand new Ghost Hunters. :| Rescue Me not being on was the first dagger, now this. Grr. (I preferred the Mythbusters marathon, over TZ, though.)

Plus, I have a lingering headache (not from drinking) and my wacko neighbors are setting off fireworks that just sound like rumbling earthquakes and shotguns. It’s pretty annoying for someone who doesn’t like loud abrupt noises. :(

Hope everyone else is having a better day than me. :)

(THIS IS A CHEESY POST AND I DON’T CARE)
I am not a real big patriot (I think) but today…I don’t know what it is but I am really feeling this 4th of July. Plus, I don’t have the “I only have one day off” blues like many of you.
I know it’s late now but get out there (or whatever) and celebrate our independence. Think aobut Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Ben Franklin, George Washington, John Jay, Mercy Otis Warren, Molly Pitcher, and all the rest of the macs and mac-ettes who fought in the Revolution.
Click my name and read the Declaration already.

Nothing beats a three day weekend, but a day off is a day off, even in the middle of the week. I could’ve been at work all afternoon instead of eating watermelon, flipping between marathons, watching Empire Strikes Back and refreshing the blog, so I’m happy.

Chestnuts roasted by squee4242 @ 07/04/2007 9:46 PM

…to add to Manimal’s cheesiness.
I have to say I am sure I have never read, let alone thought about the DOI in the fourth. School’s not in session, so it never really happened. But those are pretty powerful words, and it is amazing how far our nation has come as to include (nearly) all people into the “all men are created equal” part since it was written.
I’d like to imagine the writiers of this were sitting around drinking pints and high-fiving while writing it. But that’s just me.

Oh, and spelling is stupid.

I got work tomorrow too (day shift unfortunately), but I’m partying anyway! I’m at my frat bro’s house…where I am every wednesday.

Watching awesome fireworks from the very room I’m typing in right now! Happy 4th everyone!

And jukebox suggestions…go back to the blog where everyone listed their suggestions. A lot of them got missed.

Chestnuts roasted by Invader Norbert @ 07/04/2007 9:59 PM

Definitely going to add more from the suggestions — probably straying away from too much of the current stuff, though. Juke will probably be twice as long when all is said and done.

Low-key 4th here, too. Tiny BBQ, Monk marathon (Mom’s choice, finally), it’s all good. Have a great rest of the day everybody.

I ended up working, but I worked early, only until 1PM. By the time I got home, almost everyone else I knew was out at some party or the other, so I went to my older friend Erica’s house and watched old movies (the Hepburn-Tracy comedy “Woman Of The Year”), then went out to dinner, came home briefly to drop off the leftovers and went to see the fireworks.

The fireworks were gorgeous, and I even got lucky – as I was leaving, a second fireworks program began at the next town over…which was quite visible from my spot on the CVS on the edge of Oaklyn/Collingswood across from Cooper River Park. I watched part of the second program, then bought a copy of Rolling Stone (this month’s issue celebrates the Summer of Love – I’m a classic rock fan), and got soaked when I hit a downpour while walking home. I’m still drying out as I type this.

Chestnuts roasted by starwenn @ 07/04/2007 10:18 PM

kb I got that beat. I just watched all of the fireworks whatnot in NY and D.C. and I envisioned the Founders looking on a la the Jedi spirits. (That may be the dorkest sentence ever typed in human history).

P.S. I re-read my earlier post and I think that comment about not having to work tomorrow came across as rubbing it in; That was not my intent :) . I also misspelled ‘about’. :(

Now, go celebrate your independence of your country by blowing up a small part of it.

“Boys of Summer” has always been one of my favorite songs, even though it’s about autumn. Plus, I always thought it would be cool if a girl remade it, instead of that kinda pointless version from a couple of years ago.

Anyone who has a pulse knows that the greatest “only flavor that matters….PERIOD” of Kool-Aid is Surfin’ Berry Punch. The commercial was great and the song was timeless.
A wave of wiiiild berries,
You’re gonna dig it a bunch (cool!),
a hot new flavor from KOOL-AID,
new Surfin Berry Punch (Kool-Aid man riding a wave on a surfboard)

It would be cool if a girl redid it. But the Ataris are far from pointless

Discovered a cool new trick today: due to lack of a grill, I was stuck as to how to cook steaks that were brought to my house. After some interweb searching, I read up on the simple technique of cooking them in the oven. And I have to say: it was the best steak I’ve had in a looong time. No nice and juicy!

I think I’m getting my usual holiday-type case of the ‘blahs’. There’s something about days where everyone seems to be doing something more important/relevant than you are that makes me kinda down….

Chestnuts roasted by Shuanfu @ 07/05/2007 12:16 AM

Zone marathon? I’m down. Add me to the list of low-keyers. Went to a bbq, that’s about it. However, I am celebrating by eating corndogs and watching this Twilight Zone marathon. It doesn’t get more American than that. Oh, and alcohol, too.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt(#2?) @ 07/05/2007 12:17 AM

I live for the 4th of July Twilight Zone Marathon. Started for me last year, and still goes on today. Can’t wait to see what my DVR has in store for me since I had a blowout here today.
My fav TZ episode is “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street”. Make perfect sense as how we live as humans. Ironic.

ALso the TZ marathon always begins the day before at 8am. Although I do hate Ghost Hunters wasn’t on.

Just got back from Transformers. Effects were AMAZING. My only complaint- the movie was just too darn long. The fight scenes could have been shorter. But, I liked it overall- lots of humor!

Jukebox ideas: ‘June afternoon’ by Roxette
‘Flowers in your Hair’- Scott MacKenzie?
‘Time of My Life’- Dirty Dancing

thanks for the tip on the twilight zone marathon matt. i’m enjoying my drunken stupor much more now!

I think I’m going again Friday morning. I forgot to mention that last night there was a guy with a Decepticon logo shirt who had written on his back, in masking tape, “Suck it Bay.” This guy was an idiot for two reasons. 1. He payed to see the movie anyway. 2. He was smiling as he left; he loved it.

Then there was 4 guys who dressed up in tin foil and cardboard boxes. They were greeted with applause and snapshots.

Now, who’s foolish?

We read a Twilight Story in 8th Grade English in play format, about the space aliens invading. Basically all the aliens did was fuck with the electricity which initatied all the fear and turmoil in the town, resulting in a few deaths. After we read that one, my teacher told me about the pigs, stating that was her favorite episode.
