Summer Megaparty: X-E’s Summer Jukebox!

X-E's Summer Jukebox is now active! A stunning combination of oldies, cock rock and songs from Pokemon movie soundtracks! It's not finished, but in case anyone without a radio needs some easy breezy listening as they spend Independence Day playing Yahoo! Checkers, I figured now was the time. It's a pretty eclectic (read: ridiculous) mix, but this is a pretty eclectic (read: ridiculous) site. I'll add more songs soon.

Even when it falls on a Wednesday (ugh), the 4th is typically one of the lowest days of the year in terns of web traffic, or at least, X-E's web traffic. If you're about to head off for barbecues with celebrity friends for a day, have a good one. Us? We got nothing planned. Maybe a little grilling, or maybe I'll track down a leftover smoke bomb from this article, or maybe I'll waste the entire holiday reading up on carpenter ants, which for some reason are creatures I find quite kickass.

Happy 4th of July everyone!

I had a little shindig at my place tonight for some old college friends. It was pretty fun. I am definitely getting old, but not that old yet. How do I know this? Simple. I bought far too much beer for the party. Apparently my friends and I are too old to drink like we used to (or lack the interest in it) and I am still to young to realize in advance that I was going to blow lots of money on leftover beer that I don’t really want.

Sweet.

Nice Jukebox selections. Here is a quick story about Escape Club’s Wild Wild West. The year was 1989. My aunt and uncle had driven up to visit us and brought with them my then three-year-old nephew, Andrew. That song came on the radio and the kid was doing his best to sing along with it, usually just a moment or two behind as he listened to the lyrics. He was doing a pretty good job of mimicking the singer and getting the lyrics pretty close.

Well, given that I was probably the only person in the car that was familiar with the song beforehand and knew the lyrics in advance, I patienty wait with bated breath for one moment. Sure enough it came. Picture a three-year-old boy, in his car seat, bobbing his head back and forth to the beat, singing…

Gimme gimme wild west
Gimme gimme safe sex

Well, we thought it was funny. I guess maybe it has lost its charm over the years. Perhaps you had to be there.

Matt

What’s up with the link on the third jukebox? It’s called closeup.wmv?

Add them links to the right bar :P !

Only a month and a half until Drug Stores start putting up Halloween decorations! :D

***Transformers Spoilers Transformers Spoilers***

I liked it. I liked it a whole freakin’ lot. It was HILARIOUS. Optimus saying “My bad” is just too surreal. It will warp your brain. They made me feel for Bumblebee and that is a MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT as I’m a Cliffjumper kinda guy. I have to agree with a person over at Shrine and say ‘what happened to Barricade?’ He was on his way, what happened to him? Starscream left the scene during the credits, but did I just miss what happened to Barricade?

My main, and only, gripe is the treatment my boy got. I don’t mind how he died. The smallest bot took on the biggest, that’s cocky and that’s awesome. So is getting torn in half “You wanna piece of me?!?!?” “YEAH, I WANT TWO.” My problem is with the reception he got from Prime. “Oh, look, one of us died, but its cool we met you dorky kids!” So blasphemous I want to buy another Jazz and pop out his waist pin so I can recreate the scene on my desk.

Yeah.

Gah, it’s July 4th? Not mid-June?

jazzy I am glad I reminded you of something :) and me reminding you reminds me of something :) the local radio station used to have this thing on the weekend up until about 9 at night once an hour or half hour or so they would pick a caller and do what was called the broken jukebox or something i dunno lol anyway you would pick any letter and any number up to 100 or so and it would be a random song. I tried one weekend and we couldn’t get to do the jukebox but we had fun hassling the dj. I have a sound effect cd and my cousin acted like he farted, we cranked up the cd full blast and it was the grossest fart on the cd IMO and do you think the dj knew? LOL my cousin said the guy said ‘ew that was gross!! are you ok?” I think he just giggled and hung up, my cousin that is.

Anyway, my other older cousin he’s in his early 40′s, his b-day was on sunday (the 1st) I just remembered so I think I am going right now to pay kudos to him and watch toxic avenger and maybe some random zombie movie. The sicko exposed me to that stuff when I was 10-12 it was great. When he lived with us it was the best part of my childhood.

and Hoverbored (or anyone that gives a shit honestly) My sister when I was a kiddie she signed up for the Columbia house membership and she was having problems deciding which cassettes to order. I looked through the stamps that had cassette and cd pictures on them (loved those things always have always will, I think half of it is enjoying the fact someone is giving you free stickers! Sheets of them!!) and I instantly saw the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles one. Not having a personal preference for music at the time I wanted that one. I listened to it a lot. I still have it but it’s too warped to listen to now.

Mystie Yay hon! I watched the video of you singing on youtube. Horribly fantastic. That is why I want to go to Bingo to win stuff but that is so an old lady thing so I will try to put it off. Do secretly play on pogo though. Enjoy your 10 bucks at Applebees.

thats all i have to say right now…

KNeg I so agree with you – Transformers was the best time at the movies we’ve had this summer; it was just ‘right on’ in so many points.

My only ‘complaint’ if it really is one is more about a style choice: I hate ‘shaky cam’ during movies with action scenes. It makes it hard to follow things sometimes. But that was such a minor issue.

And I truthfully even thought when your ‘boy’ met his fate “dude, KNeg is gonna be pissed!” ;)

Since my stepmother and step sister are fighting -again- my dad called me and said “4th of July is cancelled”. I told him he better get on it, ’cause he’s got a lot of phone calls to make. His response was “huh?”…my humor is always lost on him…..

Soooo…my plans are up in the air as well. Probably play games, then find a BBQ to chill at. It is Alabama, I could walk out my door and be in one most likely; they’ve been shooting fireworks all night. But it makes me happy….

Sorry for the lack of relevance but I just got back from the Transformers movie (awesome, by the way) and was wondering: should I get Ironhide or Starscream?

Chestnuts roasted by Ben @ 07/04/2007 3:01 AM

I may be the only person who finds this amusing, but I was listening to the Halloween song on the jukebox (btw, AWESOME JUKEBOX!) while I was reading about the carpenter ants. For those of you who don’t know, John Carpenter made the Halloween movie and I believe wrote the song or somesuch. Too lazy to look that up.

On the subject of carpenter ants – I hate ‘em, because one of the suckers bit me when I was two and wouldn’t let go for the longest time. My mother even ended up pulling the body off, leaving a severed ant head still embedded in my leg. Eeeuccchh.

Back to the jukebox, I totally love all the Halloweeny stuff :) . I always have a latent association of X-E with Halloween, since it was in October, when searching for random Freddy stuff (and kudos for the ‘do the Freddy’ – seriously one the the most surreal songs ever) that I found the site. Been hooked ever since ;) .

Now for the Harry Potter stuff. Keep in mind, I’m not a megafan, so I don’t know everything about the series. Alright, random Frakkyfire thoughts on Harry Potter: Personally, I don’t have a strong feeling about Harry/Ginny either way; I dont’t think Harry will die, and I wouldn’t be able to read the older books again if he did, since it’s from his POV; I *don’t* like Ron/Hermione, as I think that she is more on the same emotional and mental level as more adult people, and it seems that Ron is rather immature; I like Snape and think that he’s not truly good or evil, just wonderfully nasty; and … um … well, that’s about it. Dumbledore’s dead for good and might show up via painting, but that’s already been said.

I hate to bring up old news, but I just saw Pirates 3, and I’m upset. It was an awesome movie, but *POTC3SPOILERSBUTPEOPLEPROBABLYALREADYSAWTHEMOVIEANYWAYS* they should not have killed Norrington!!! He was such a cool character. *sniff* I liked him. *ENDPOTC3SPOILERS*

Ben, search Youtube for MatrixPrime and check out his reviews. Sitting through the color-scheme parts is a little dull, but watching the transformation process may give you a good idea of which figure to get.

I’d say Ironhide, but I’m a died-in-the-wool Autobot guy ;)

Chestnuts roasted by Knegative @ 07/04/2007 3:07 AM

Transformers was the most fun I’ve had at a theater in years. Was it high art? No. And anyone looking for anything deep need not apply. But it was FUN. I haven’t had fun at the movies in a long, long time. This was the first summer movie to deliver in years.

Chestnuts roasted by Wukong @ 07/04/2007 3:13 AM

I got herded into a line when I got to the theatre and the show time whizzed by and I’m like this is the 10:40 line, right? I was in the 11;20 line!! I ran into the theatre and grabbed a seat just as “Feature Presentation” hit the screen. That’s timing, people.

The whole theatre clapped so many times it was crazy. I think I was the only one who whoo’d when Jazz picked his form, but I’m used to that, I’m usually alone whooing for Keanu or Rachael :P

Chestnuts roasted by Knegative @ 07/04/2007 3:28 AM

Ben: Sadly, I have most of the TF toys….

Ironhide is a bit tricky, but is hands-down my favorite. Starscream is cool, but not my favorite.

My rank of those I have would be: Ironhide, Optimus Prime, Ratchet, Bumblebee, Wreckage, Brawl (or is it Devastator now?) Starscream, Blackout, Jazz, and lastly Barricade.

Chestnuts roasted by Shuanfu @ 07/04/2007 4:11 AM

Yes! This is so awesome. Flawless playlist. The Men at Work song raised a rousing debate over here about what it’s actually about (I was closest). Loving the Rupert Holmes and double-stack B-52′s.
Frakky, you have my sympathies wrt to the PoTC thing, I was way bummed about that too. I’m pretty sure they’ll bring him back if/when they do another sequel though, and of course fanon resurrected him faster than you can say convoluted mythology where no one stays dead long ;) .
Speaking of people who stay dead, I always figured if we saw anything more of Dumbledore it would have something to do with the Pensieve but that’s just one of my pet theories that always end up bring wrong. I really don’t want to get spoiled again this time (still annoyed with the SA forums over that) so hopefully I don’t have to worry about anybody around here :) . I think Ron/Hermione is really sweet, personally, and I’ve been rooting for Harry and Ginny ever since Chamber of Secrets. I don’t think they’ll be ending up together though, but then I’m only figuring Harry to have a 50% shot of surviving. I’m glad there’re other HP fanatics around; it’s nice to know I’m not the only one who can’t wait for 7/21.
(And Dumbledore would never have a horcrux, you have to kill someone to make one, remember.)

“The whole theatre clapped so many times it was crazy. I think I was the only one who whoo’d when Jazz picked his form, but I’m used to that”

Somebody in my screening whoo’d when he did that.

And also, “Whassup, lil’ bitches”= best line from any robot ever in the history of robots.

I know I already posted, but I have to say that that “Monster Rap” song is the shiznatt! With such classic line as “Invisible hands…who goosed me?” and “Freddy Krueger gives good glove” what’s not to love?

And Squee – if they do make a fourth, they *better* bring him back! ;)

I only have two, but I don’t have any major problems with my movie figures. It’s hard to rank them because Prime is easily the better toy, aesthetically and transformation-wise, but Jazz has become the main thing I toy with on my desk while surfing the net (replacing a rainbow, glow-in-the-dark slinky).

I’ve heard that the line will continue into Summer 08 with figures in different sizes and such. I’m holding out hope for a Jazz with actual arms.

Chestnuts roasted by Knegative @ 07/04/2007 12:40 PM

You mean Dumble-D doesn’t come back and activate his “Moustache Power?” Rats.

I had a problem with carpenter ants once. Woke up one morning and had tiny little bookshelves and coffee tables scattered on my nightstand. Then they were singing “Close to You” and “Top of the World” all night long. Once I broke out the Black Flag, though, everything turned out all right. Henry Rollins uber antses!
