Summer Megaparty: Bubblicious Flavor Reviews.

Just got back from a little vacation with my extended family to Atlantic City and Long Beach Island. Atlantic City was more of the same, but Long Beach was loads of fun. We used to rent a house there every year, back before the prices skyrocketed. Haven't explored the town in almost a decade, and totally forgot how cool it is. You'll see an example in tomorrow's entry. Tonight, with time running short before my midnight Megaparty deadline, we'll have to settle for reviews of five different Bubblicious flavors.

Savage Sour Apple: Despite its name, I got more of a "cherry Jolly Rancher" vibe. Definitely had the strongest flavor of the bunch, which means it's better as surrogate caffeine than for casual chewing. It's really sour. Not the kind of gum you'd offer to Grandma, and probably my least favorite of the five.

Paradise Punch: This was my #1 gum of choice during middle school. The flavor isn't as overpowering as I'd remembered, but maybe my taste buds were just screwy from the Savage Sour Apple mess. Sort of the gum equivalent of a Hawaiian Punch, which was probably what Bubblicious was going for considering the flavor's name.

Watermelon Wave: Really mellow. You've gotta jab the gum wad with your tongue pretty hard to get any kind of flavor burst deserving of a sourpuss face. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Most brands of Bubblicious gum are really sour or sweet, and it's impossible to chew them without contorting your face in ways that let everyone around you know that you're chewing gum. Watermelon Wave is great for those occasions when you want to chew gum, but really shouldn't.

LeBron's Lightning Lemonade: It's times like these that I wish I knew more about sports. Is LeBron James cool? I mean, is he really cool? He should be, because this flavor is AMAZING. It's not at all just some everyday "lemonade gum," tasting much more like Minute Maid's new "Cherry Limeade" juice. Best of the bunch. Paraphrasing a testimonial from an old Cats Broadway promo, "I'd chew it twice more."

Blue Blowout: I'm happy that Bubblicious found a happy medium for their requisite "blue" flavor. Candy companies tend to overdo blue. This one's pretty mellow, all things considered, tasting like a cross between cotton candy and a snowcone. A cotton candy flavored snowcone? A cotton candy flavored snowcone flavored bubble gum? When it takes that many words and that much confusion to properly describe the taste nuances of bubble gum, you know you've got a winner.

On a final note, never buy gum from the gift shops in an Atlantic City casino resort. These were $1.98 a pack.

I am a recovering…gum addict? Hoo boy, could I chew the stuff when I was a kid. A whole pack in my mouth at once.Three or four gumballs out of a machine.Oddly enough, I still have all my teeth. But I rarely chew gum anymore, simply because I can’t help cramming three, four, five pieces in my mouth at once.THANKS FOR TEMPTIN’ ME WITH THIS STUFF.

Just kidding.They all look delish.

All I can say is the McMahon “death” angle should cease immediately. Godspeed Benoit family.

I’m gonna be man enough and admit I cried watching the ending of the WrestleMania XX match when Benoit and Eddie Guerrero celebrated in the ring when they showed it on RAW last night. I can’t believe it. I mean, what would drive someone into doing something like that? It was his own son! It’s crazy.

I’ll never be able to look at him the same way again. Still, R.I.P. Chris, Nancy, and Daniel Benoit.

Still never been to AC, but I’m sure that’ll be next on the list now that I finished my NYC excursion. Getting groped below the belt by two different cowboys in underwear in two completely different places (both physically and geographically!) is pretty much the things dreams are made of.

I have tried most or all of these gums as my son will pass me a peice when we go to the “treat store” as he calls it. The lemonade one is good, and surprisingly the blueberry is as well.
When I was in elementary school we had to collectively as a class write a song. And this is how it went,
“Gum sticky gum gum,
Sticky sticky chewy chewy gum gum.”
I don’t know why but I still remember this song, melody and all to this day.

Mmm gum. Anyone remember Checkermint? That stuff was awesome.

I finally got Be Somebody or Be Somebody’s Fool today. I have to admit I almost expected them to be lying, but it IS sealed and in mint-condition.

Now just to burn it to many, many DVDs :D

Chris Benoit.

Oh my god.

I gotta say, I’ve never been a fan of Bubblicious gum, although I chewed a few pink “bubblegum” flavoured (isn’t that like eating a hamburger flavoured hamburger?) ones a long time ago. I’m more of an Extra kinda gal – especially Peppermint. Mmmmm….

I still can’t see how Benoit can end his son’s life. From what I read, he had a family emergency during the weekend and did not show up on the PPV last night. Reports said the wife and kid were puking up blood so he had to go tend to them. Now they are all dead in some double-murder-suicide? I don’t know, I just can’t grasp my head around all of this.
I will state for the record this has been a very dark day. Mine started at 5 a.m. when my heart felt like it was trying to pound itself out of my chest and then it was followed with a two hour panic attack that left me more or less paralyzed. It stopped when my adrenaline bottomed out and I passed out from exhaustion. And other things I wish not to mention here occurred throughout the day and now Benoit may be a double murderer?
Fuck this day. Seriously.

I thought I’d share this here as well:

Last summer, we discovered the coolness of using perler beads to make assorted NES magnets. Just yesterday, we discovered this summer’s art project: using what we learned to make NES t-shirts. Click on my name for some pics, and let me know what you think!

And my condolences to you wrestling fans; never really followed it much, but it does suck to loose anyone you were a fan of like that….

I remember back to WCW Halloween Havoc ’94, Benoit and 2 Cold Scorpio were the opening match. 15 minutes with Scorpio winning with a rollup, Chris is one of my 5 favorite wrestlers ever. He’ll be sorely missed. Also his wife was hot back in the late ’80′s. The angle where she turned on Rick Steiner and introduced Doom back then was excellent, she’ll be missed too. As for their kid, I get pissed when I hear about kids dying so he’ll be too.

Speaking of Jaw Arthritis, Hot Dog Eating Champ Takeru Kobayashi was just diagnosed with it, and may hinder his next win (not that I care if he wins…I want an american to do it this time!)

you can read it here (as long as I’m not approval bin’d): http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,21963756-5012895,00.html

RIP Benoit (which I’ll admit I don’t watch wrestling, but still tragic) & Kobyashi’s Career

Chestnuts roasted by Invader Norbert @ 06/26/2007 1:37 AM

The Benoit story absolutely breaks my heart. Even more so if it really was a double homicide/suicide. My heart won’t let me believe that.

Chestnuts roasted by Andy @ 06/26/2007 2:04 AM

Lightning Lemonade was always my favorite.

K- I want to say Kneg but I think I’m too rookie for that. Anyway, I can relate to the church story. I am Catholic, by education, and I have a memory that will haunt me everytime I am in a quiet setting. The church I grew up attending had a balcony that was suspended 15 feet above the lower pews. (sp?) When the priest was giving his sermon, some kid threw a gosple book from the balcony and it hit the guy right in front of us in the head. To go from sheer bordom to total confussion is too much for a 12 year old to handle. I spent the next 30 minutes in convusions from silent laughter. I will still get the giggles in a quite place from having witnessed some poor bald guy getting brained by “the good word” and seeing his reaction. Head hits are priceless.

So sorry to hear about Benoit and his family. It reminds me when I served Sting (pre-crow stage) and his huge family as a host at Le Peep. They seemed so normal for a wrestler’s career.

I haven’t had Bubblicious since the Rasberry flavor in the eighties. I’m old…but hip.

Chestnuts roasted by Bill @ 06/26/2007 2:31 AM

So, gum? Too darn expensive most of the time is what I say. The lemonade flavor sounds delicious though. My Bubblicious of choice back in the day was the one with Cyclone in the name. (That’s all I remember, and it’s the first I’ve thought of it in years.) I did buy some Fruit Stripe a couple of weeks ago- haven’t had that in ten years at least. I don’t remember it being as sweet.

Sorry about Benoit. :( I don’t know anything about wrestling, but that’s awful, no matter how it happened.

You may call me Kneg, Bill. You’ve more than payed your dues. We’re all still n00bs compared to some of our long-long-haulers ;)

I can’t believe the Megaparty is almost 1/4 over. Time moves so fast these days :(

………What’s that? Oh, we’re doing more than a month this time. Well, that’s just brilliant, innit? Sort of like the flying party in Life, The Universe, and Everything. When do we start the looting & raiding? Kingklash, we await your command.

Chestnuts roasted by K- @ 06/26/2007 2:40 AM

When I was little, I used to love the cotton candy flavored gum. It didn’t taste much like cotton candy, but damn was it tasty. Since your fifth flavor there doesn’t seem to be identified specifically as having a real world flavor (it appears to be blue flavored, like red jello is red flavored and pink lemonade is pink flavored) I kind of wonder if they didnt repackage Cotton Candy as Blue Blowout.

No, wait, a visit to the Bubbliscious webstie clarifies that Cotton Candy is still an available flavor.

I have tried the Lemonade bubblicious gum before it was good, a tart flavor to it. I every once in a while get in a mood to chew a piece or two of gum for a couple of days then i quit. This is like once a year or so, especially gums that make me curious like black licorice flavored gum which i have heard about but never have. I had this thing where i was sleeping in a car for a couple of months about 2 years ago, so i sketched on a drawing pad, listened to the radio, and chewed gum. My best friend “roommate” if you will chewed the rest of the gum because it was just sitting there tempting him. He chews like a cow and it’s disgusting. Walmart didn’t have a broad range of gum that night, i think that was the only flavor of bubblicious they had that night. I am not the type to chew gum to freshen my breath.

I love the gum I don’t know if it’s like that anymore but it’s the watermelon gum that is dark pink on the inside and green on the outside like a profile of a cartoon watermelon. Delicious. Overall I hate gum though the flavor disapears too fast and all the chewing.

I watched an old episode of america’s funniest home videos today, halloween version. There was this kid (the date was 1990 on the screen) he was in a batman costume, and he was carrying a mcpail (i think that is what it is called the mcdonalds spoooky pail) it was a frankenstein one. He was about 6 years old or so. There was this little weiner dog that ran out of the house barking and he ran up the walkway out to his mom and hugged her around her legs crying. I feel so white trash watching that show but I watch a minute or two every now and then.

Bill Great story as always Bill :) btw I feel weird calling you that because I have a cousin that is older then me (about 40) that is named Bill that I really like. He lived with me and my family for about 3 years and those were probably the best years of my childhood. I also have a cousin named Matt but I can deal with one confusion. Oh well.

Goob: I would dig some quirks! I just wanted to see what Jessica’s were because she knits her own socks and that is all right. You can call me Billy. ;)

Citygirl: I found abandoned baby birds when I was little. I put them in a shoe box and went inside to find my dad but when we came outside the neighbor’s cocker spaniel ate them. That was about as traumatizing as watching dad kill a copperhead snake on our front porch with a shovel.

Thanks Kneg. honored.

Wow…so much Bill love tonight :(

Chestnuts roasted by Shuanfu @ 06/26/2007 3:35 AM

Shuan: cyber hug for you too, pal. Btw, weird story. Friends of my parents daughter in law was killed by a bear in Romania this past weekend. wtf? So tradgic but it is shadowed by so random. I’m supised it isn’t another Foxnews Alert.

Chestnuts roasted by Bill @ 06/26/2007 3:47 AM

And we’re back to the crazy nature of bears ;)

Seriously, though, that’s horrible…I knew- but never taught- a student in Atlanta that witnessed a bear attack on another group of kids while on a camping trip. He said it was the most horrible thing he ever saw. They assumed that there was cubs nearby; the most common reason for attacks. Could not imagine seeing that at 13-14 and being able to talk about it a few weeks later….

Man, i was all ready to gush about how awesome Blue Bubblicious is, but i have to say something about Benoit.

From back in the Nitro days, Benoit and Malenko were my 2 favorite wrestlers to watch because of their sheer technical prowess. Benoit was the Ken, and Malenko was the Ryu. I watched a little of Raw last night, but i had to turn it off because all of the heartfelt emotion was getting to me. I really don’t know what the hell happened, but no matter what transpires…he was an excellent wrestler, a great sportsman, and an individual clearly deserving a spot in the hall of fame, because i can’t think of many others who could outwrestle him. I will miss watching him, but at least there is lots of great footage from the past available.

Have fun arguing with Eddie, Chris. We’ll catch you the next time.
