Happy SNT! I'm spending my Saturday in, playing Wii and catching up on my Netflix movies. Anyone have any opinions on Tristam Shandy or The Marine?

im spending my nite eating pierogi, probably playing marvel ultimate alliance on ps2 and eventually doing something productive. ah, nerddom. hey matt, how about an update for the main page, this site is the only thing that keeps me sane at work.

I am gleefully a first-time poster, enjoying a rainy day in Seattle and trolling through the archives for articles i might not have read yet. Or rather reading things i've forgotten that I read many years ago. Oh, and being introduced to Deadwood while the New Super Mario kicks my tail.

Posted by astro-greg @ 03/10/2007 8:20 PM EST

Neat. I usually don't get in this early.

…now if only I had something to say. I still don't have a Wii. Anyone wanna play Mario Kart DS with me?

Welcome astro-greg!

My husband is out at a board-game-playing thing, and has been since noon, I don't expect him back anytime soon.  We're getting kind of into board games…it's like this whole other realm of nerdiness that I didn't know existed.

I love having time to myself. Maybe I should blog, or do something crafty, or listen to embarrassing music.  The possibilities…

I went to see Bridge to Terabithia again today.  Has anyone else seen that?  So good, I cried.  Ahh.  Happy SNT!

Whoo! SNT!.. I spent the day building a light box to take still life pictures in.  Yeah, exciting, huh?

Anyway, US people, don't forget to spring forward tonight!  (ugh…not looking forward to it…)

Happy birthday, Jim!

I spent my Saturday with my parents and grandparents, ripping out half a mile of four-strand barbed wire on cedar posts.  Damned fence had to be the original section marker the homesteaders put up in 1890.  On that note, is anyone interested in purchasing some original XIT ranch ribbon wire?  We're tearing out about four miles of it next, and I'm sure you could spend the rest of your life productively selling it off in six-inch sections at state fairs and gun shows.

Posted by Jedoc @ 03/10/2007 9:47 PM EST

Oooh! kb- it was fantastic! I've been psyched about it since last year, and I finally got to go yesterday. If I have the opportunity, I'll definitely be back at the theatre. Great book, great movie.

Happy birthday, Jim and welcome, astro-greg!

Posted by Rainbowfeet @ 03/10/2007 10:05 PM EST

I did errands, got called into work, which was thankfully quiet due to the warm weather, and will spend the rest of tonight browsing and chatting with friends online. That's about as exciting as my Saturdays get.

Posted by starwenn @ 03/10/2007 10:11 PM EST

Happy Birthday Jim!

K- I made time to listen to embarrassing music, but I'm watching an even more embarrassing tv show - BBC's Robin Hood. It's my guiltiest almost-pleasure…it sucks so bad, yet I can't stop watching.

Posted by Jessica Marie @ 03/10/2007 10:12 PM EST

All I did today was see 300.  It's not bad.

BTW, does anyone know why Jones Soda doesn't do anything special for Easter like the other holidays?

Posted by JLAJRC @ 03/10/2007 10:18 PM EST

Yay!  I'm glad to see some new activity here.

I haven't done anything interesting today.  Ate some so-so Mexican food, played with my cats.  I'm now in my room listening to Guided by Voices, wishing my tooth would stop hurting and that I could afford to go to a dentist.  Yeah…real exciting.

Posted by Astro Zombie @ 03/10/2007 10:36 PM EST

Wow!  I finally made an SNT in real time!

Right now I'm just taking a break from hospital duty with my mom.  She's in ICU after having emergency surgery.  They've got it under control and the doctors feel pretty good about the situation, but if anyone would like to say a word or two for her, it would be MUCH appreciated!

On a more upbeat note… I'M ENGAGED!!!!!  Woooooo!

And now it's back to the hospital for visiting hour.  Happy SNT, evareebuddy!

Has anyone here actually been to a Long John Silver's? It's one of my stops on the "Lent Fast Food Fish Sandwich Challenge" and I wanna hear a second opinion before going there. A friend of mine tells me to skip it entirely, but I want someone to say something.

Speaking of a topic, anyone have any guilty fast food pleasures? We all know that all this fast food crap is terrible for us, but what do you usually love for some reason? For me, obviously the Fish sandwiches, whether it comes from White Castle, McDs, etc.

Also, there is a hotdog joint that we have called Das Wiener Works. They have the greatest shakes in the history of mankind. They go out of business about once a year, but they always come back.

This time they're called Hot Diggity Dog.

They have all the dogs :D

Posted by K- @ 03/10/2007 10:45 PM EST

I spent a good chunk of today staring at the ceiling thinking about how bored I am and wondering what to do to remedy the situation. At one point I climbed full clothed into the shower and stared at my face in the shiny shower head and thought how it reminded me of Prince John staring into the crystal ball in Robin Hood. Then I bought stuff online and did some freelance work. Kinda dull Saturday. *shrug*

Posted by Mystie @ 03/10/2007 10:45 PM EST

Invader Norbert sorry they are building the first LJS here. Been working on it for awhile and I keep forgetting about it until I go to PoJos to play Skee-Ball

Congrats Special K and happy b-day Jim!

I’ve had two shamrock shakes so far… it’s not enough. Oh, and I saw 300 yesterday. It was awesome. Not heavy on the story but visually it was spectacular. My favorite character would have to be the fat, mutated executioner with blades attached to his stubs. He was only on screen for a couple seconds, but he captured my heart.

This is wierd. Does anyone have quirky fears? I have always felt a fear when standing next to skycrapers. It's the wierdest thing. Afraid of hieghts from the ground-up? wtf.

Posted by Bill @ 03/11/2007 12:00 AM EST

Actually Bill, it's funny that you say that because I've felt the same way. I've been to the Sears Tower on numerous occasions and I can't shake the feeling that the fucker would fall down on me.

Posted by Jvicious @ 03/11/2007 12:11 AM EST

The other thing that has always freaked me out is somehow falling face first on a concrete surface and  fucking up my front teeth. Ever since I saw that flick "Last house on the Left" where one of the characters has this nightmare sequence where this chick knocks out both of his front teeth with a hammer and a chisel, I've been nagged by this feeling that I'll somehow wind up with a bloody face and two or three of my front teeth knocked out in a bloody mess.

Posted by jvicious @ 03/11/2007 12:22 AM EST

I feel that way at Home Depot. Those pallets of fresh lumber and those lovely sink-tops are going to kill me.

I'm scared of ventriloquist dummies, and every time a trailer for Dead Silence comes on I totally piss myself.

Posted by Mystie @ 03/11/2007 12:23 AM EST

Thanks K, now I'm haunted by visions of falling in a drunken stupor in the bathroom and fucking my teeth up on the bathroom sink.

I'm scared to death of porcelain dolls.  My mom still has her childhood collection and I swear they can see into my soul.

Posted by Jeff Mack @ 03/11/2007 12:29 AM EST

Jvicious: Whoa. I have a front tooth fear also. I was drinking a beer and this girl backed up and the bottle cracked my front tooth. It was so hard I thought for sure it was out. Just a chip. Really sucked and it still gives me the willies.

I think my skyscraper fear is from when I was a kid. I think someone told me that God can shut off the gravity if your naughty. Pretty technical for a threat.

Posted by Bill @ 03/11/2007 12:29 AM EST

Yes, SNT!

Special K, all the best for you.

And happy birthday Jim!
(I kinda feel like George, in that Seinfeld where he gets the new job and its "Karen's" office birthday, and he gives a toast, and teh two guys next to him shake their heads…just because I'm sorta new here)

Hey Lilly, I've been meaning to listen to Animals for a while, so I think I'll do that tonight.-In the meantime I'm gonna stream Astronomy Domine off progarchives.

So I pretty well pissed today away. Woke up at 1, had A&W for supper. God that place is expensive.

Posted by Tutsuro @ 03/11/2007 12:30 AM EST

Invader Norbert if you skip Long John Silver's you're doing yourself a serious disservice. Go, get whatever it is you're looking for plus hush puppies and fries, and then be amazed that they've brought everything to you on little piles of fried batter drops. Spectacular.

Happy Saturday everybody! Congrats Special K, happy birthday Jim and welcome astro-greg! Jose Murphy, I've been trying to decide if you're being poetic or what. ¡Si usted es nuevo escritor en el blog, no sea tímido!
I've gone from seeing 300 at midnight -> whole work day -> all night paper writing -> midterm this morning, so I'm grateful for not much to do at this point. Though I did find the energy to meader around Target awhile. Easter candy out the ears.
I have a lot of irrational fears, including the old teeth fuckup. Also, that I'll leave the car windows open overnight and it'll rain.

Posted by squee4242 @ 03/11/2007 12:36 AM EST

Just caught that Dead Silence trailer. I know the movie's going to be awful, but dang if dummies aren't some of the scariest things in the world. If I wasn't so terrified of it, I'd go put on Magic right now…

Posted by Declan Dempsey @ 03/11/2007 12:38 AM EST

To Squee4242 and Bill, it's nice to know I'm not the only one who has what will now be known as the "Irrational Front Teeth being Knocked Out in a Bloody Mess Fear"

Posted by jvicious @ 03/11/2007 12:40 AM EST

The window in my bedroom is level with my bed, and to this day I will not sleep with the blind open. It is permanently down, 24/7. I've contemplated painting the glass and bricking the thing up entirely.

Posted by K- @ 03/11/2007 12:49 AM EST

I actually have 2 buddies of mine celebrating Bdays today, one is his 21st and had a family party and one is currently pledging my frat and spent the day with his pledge class in NYC. (just like I did a year ago), so Happy Bday, Jim!

Congrats, Special K! Is it sad that I've been constantly been listening to the Flogging Molly songs on your myspace for the last week? At first I was bored, but now…they're stuck in my head.

I still need to go to an A&W too, I heard they brought back their own Fish Sandwich just for Lent and is another stop on my Challenge. Fortunatley for LJS, the only pure one on LI is right across the street from my college, so that's good timing right there.

Fears? Needles, as in syringes & tattoo needles. Ick.

Posted by Invader Norbert @ 03/11/2007 12:52 AM EST

The window level with the bed thing is also a freak out as well. One time I awoke early on a Saturday to see this deranged looking mofo looking right into my bedroom. Turns out it was one of the apartment janitor yahoos there to paint the outside of the building.

Posted by jvicious @ 03/11/2007 12:55 AM EST

Fears, oh fears.  I have this really great panic disorder (runs in the family) so I have a ton of really irrational fears.
Mostly it boils down to not being in control, but I label it as a fear of puking. Also I'm afraid of getting blood drawn and needles in general.

My husband is afraid of the teeth thing too - he has nightmares in which his teeth all fall out.  Any of you tooth people have that nightmare?

Posted by Jessica Marie @ 03/11/2007 12:58 AM EST

Norbert: The smell of rubbing alcohol makes my arm and ass ache. It's the whole anticipation of a nice, big injection. Hate that.

I'm really painting myself to be a big wuss, huh. Oh well. Everybody fears something.

Posted by Bill @ 03/11/2007 12:59 AM EST

Jessica Marie, I have that "teeth falling out" nightmare all the time, so tell your husband he's not alone.

Posted by jvicious @ 03/11/2007 1:02 AM EST

I have the "teeth falling out" dreams too!!

Posted by K- @ 03/11/2007 1:13 AM EST

As a child I actually fell face first on to the concrete and knocked out some teeth leaving my mouth a bloody mess. Oddy I don't really fear it anymore.

On a dental related note however, I had some teeth pulled and they put me under. Afterwards my mom took me to a Fred Myer Pharmacy to get my drugs. When we got there I ran ahead since I was still loopy only when I tried the automatic door it wouldn't work. So when my mom catches up I'm mumbling to some lady about how the dentist stole my lips.

This is a remnant of when my mom said you had to smile to get automatic doors open when I was really young.  So my irrational fear is people stealing my lips evidently.

Posted by mrjayberry @ 03/11/2007 1:19 AM EST

I've never had the "teeth falling out" dream.

I do have a strange fear, though..I have to sleep with the bedroom door closed.  I can't sleep with it open, even when I'm alone in the house…

Posted by Cameron T. @ 03/11/2007 1:22 AM EST

The whole "teeth falling out" dream thing must be some sort of collective fear because I've talked to a lot of people who have had the same dream. I can't  help thinking that it represents some widespread sub conscience fear that all humans have in the face of the prospect of growing old and dying or a reflection of poor dental habits that we share as a nation.

Posted by jvicious @ 03/11/2007 1:23 AM EST

Yup, the classic teeth falling out nightmare…Apparently it's fairly common…the best dream interpretation I've read is that teeth represent words…I usually either dream they're rotten and dropping out of my head, or that I smack into something and CRACK! I'm starting to wonder if maybe I just grind my teeth and it makes it's way into my subconcious XD
On refresh, jvicious may be on to something.

Posted by squee4242 @ 03/11/2007 1:25 AM EST

Sometimes I'll have dreams that I'm driving and I can't stop at a light. And I'm not going unusually fast or anything, the brakes just aren't working.

I've come to realize that I have them when I feel like I'm losing control of some aspect of my life.

Posted by K- @ 03/11/2007 1:37 AM EST

I still find it so hard to believe that places like A&W have fish sandwiches some places. The only place with them in my area, except for maybe seafood restaurants like Joey's Only, is the filet-o-fish….have you ever seen those Japanese fish-burgers? Some of them look really good.

Anyways, like I said, A&W is fucking expensive. For a mooza burger combo, whistle dog, and small fries it was like $16.

Though its not really that weird, I have a fear of mice, though its dwindled a great deal since I had to pluck one from this used Viscount organ I bought. blech.

mrjayberry, great story.

Posted by Tutsuro @ 03/11/2007 1:39 AM EST

Oh yeah ever since I got in a car accident a few years back sometimes I wake up with a start, having just dreamt that I was about to crash into something.
Don't you hate when you have a dream that's just blantant as to why you had it? You know, like you can just pick it apart and know exactly why your brain belched up that particular stuff, and it's just boring and mundane? For example, when I'm oversleeping, I always dream that I'm getting ready for work, but I can't pick an outfit or find my shoes, like my brain is trying to tell me there's something I should be doing instead of sleeping. Lame.

Posted by squee4242 @ 03/11/2007 1:49 AM EST

Hmm, I don't have the Teeth Fall Out fear. Good for me, I guess.

Remember to set the clocks forward tonight!

Posted by Invader Norbert @ 03/11/2007 2:02 AM EST

I love the dreams where you are running really fast then trip and at the same time you jerk awake. I think they are called "sleep spindles."

Jeff M: At my grandmother's house she has this three foot doll that has been standing infront of the guest bedroom window for the past 40 years. The wear from the sun has bleached it's face white and turned it's eyes black. Also some of the hair on the right side of the head has fallen out. It is by far the scariest thing in the world.
I had a dream that it was walking in the hallway and I had to jump over it to escape. After I did I was running down the stairs screaming every obsenity in the book. The bad news is I was also talking in my sleep and my grandmother woke me horrified by my creative mix of the f-word.

Posted by Bill @ 03/11/2007 2:05 AM EST

Bill, that is good. :D

I'm singing this song from a youtube video where a guy "paints" Ronald McDonald and Morgan Spurlock with ketchup and fries (in the link).."French Fries, through and through…"

And to stay with the topic, I find most of my dreams too jumbled to have some hidden meaning. Like I'll be in some line with Phoebe from Friends, and a female Donkey Kong, but not Candy Kong.

I always have this dream where I answer the phone, but I can't speak, and that actually happened when someone called me while I was sleeping…not interesting, but its something.

Posted by Tutsuro @ 03/11/2007 2:16 AM EST

Last night I veiwed one of the craziest drunken dancers at a dive bar in my town, and through the goodness of the internet I can show it to all of you, although I feel kinda bad.  But, hey if your gonna do that in public I guess you can't be too ashamed, Anyhow.  Here's the video
Oh, and I am terrified of turbulence, not flying in general, but if there's turbulence I will have a panic attack.

Posted by kb @ 03/11/2007 2:33 AM EST

Sleep spindles are spikes in EEG recorded activity (brain waves) during Phase II sleep, Bill.

But I'm not saying that what you're talking about isn't also referred to as that, I've just never heard them described as such.

Posted by K- @ 03/11/2007 3:02 AM EST

kb, what an unfortunate character you've witnessed. Strange, does she fall on that guy or what?

And how come no-one's mentioned the title, "asasaisiasi"? After three hours I think I can finally pronounce it.

Posted by Tutsuro @ 03/11/2007 3:03 AM EST

tutsuro- what was unfortunate was I stopped recording just before the lapdance began.

Posted by kb @ 03/11/2007 3:12 AM EST

kb, that is almost as good as what I witnessed yesterday: I stopped at the store on the way into work and a very thin 'man' was dancing at the bus stop.  But just calling it dancing is a disservice to the art he was creating…it was like if Beyonce was not famous but still danced the same way, only at bus stops in the middle of town.  He was obviously having a FABULOUS afternoon :)

I feel like I come in too late to SNT now because I'm working again on Friday's.  But at least I enjoy it; I've been working "The King & I" for two weeks now and tonight I finally took the time to watch the 'famous' Shall We Dance? number….like watching a bit of history for a theatre geek.  I also got to go to a little brew-ha hosted by the King of Siam himself tonight…quite an interesting evening all in all…

Oh, and to my fellow DS heads: those of you that are fans of Elite Beat need to get Ouendan (the Japanese original) ASAP…it's so much fun!

Posted by Shuanfu @ 03/11/2007 3:13 AM EST

I haven't touched my DS in more than a month. III is so horrible I can hardly stand it. Job games you may all throw yourselves over a cliff.

III, V, X-2 I'm talking to YOU!

Posted by K- @ 03/11/2007 3:21 AM EST

Somehow I knew that there would be a lapdance in that. So, can I assume she was with the guy she starts making out with? And I can't get over teh way she just "collapses", quite the catch kb…or not, depending on how you look at it.

"a FABULOUS afternoon" That makes me chuckle.

Hah, a Jones boiled egg flavor soda would be awesome. And putrid. So it would be feasible, right? And maybe a chocolate rabbit flavor or something, just chocolate soda.

Posted by Supragenius @ 03/11/2007 4:25 AM EST

My day was bland.

I finally moved the rest of my stuff into my apartment, some six weeks after moving in. Went and saw 300 and was pretty impressed with how far Zack Snyder made a 60 million dollar budget go.

I've got a stack of Dario Argento movies that have yet to be viewed that I might start on, but I've got a research paper I should be writing, too.

I hate losing an hour. It means I have to go to work an hour sooner. I like the afternoons being longer though.

Posted by Wukong @ 03/11/2007 4:25 AM EST

Oooh Wukong did you see the Pelts episode of Masters of Horror (directed by Argento)? So good. Probably my favorite one, with the possible exception of the John Landis "George Wendt dissolves people in his basement" ep.
Lucid dreaming would be awesome. I notice though that their "Why attempt to have lucid dreams?" page says nothing about macking with celebrities. I'm sorry, but I'm going out on a limb and saying people would be more interested in that than, say, "pushing your car to its maximum speed (and beyond)" or "trying out new behaviours and testing yourself under different situations and scenarios" ;) .
Hang on a minute…now that we've spring forward, does this mean the blog time is correct again?

Posted by Shuanfu @ 03/11/2007 6:48 AM EST

Arghh…I hate the time change, too…

On the subject of dreams: the recurring nightmare that I have is that I'm late for something…Like late for work or school (when I was in school).  And I don't mean simply late…no, there's usually a whole series of cataclysmic events that cause me to be late, events that are way out of my control…Usually I wake up from these dreams in a sweat and almost panicking…but then I look at the clock and realize that I'm not late, and I wasn't even CLOSE to being late.

Weird…

Posted by Cameron T. @ 03/11/2007 9:20 AM EST

I guess I'm the exception in the fact that I love the time change and am glad it's here even earlier for now on. I love it when it's 9 o'clock and still daylight outside.

Posted by vampyre74 @ 03/11/2007 1:37 PM EST

Belated happy SNT. My weekends are usually pretty quiet. Bear in mind, my weekends start at about 2:15 on Wednesday afternoon. I only work Monday and Tuesday (20 hours) and I have a bowling class (for college credit, mind you) on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. And for those who might be wondering, yes, you can eat and buy yourself beer during class; you are still technically a paying customer.

As for Shamrock Shakes, we still don't have them in our area (So. Cal). My brother, Hoverbored, who works at our local McDonald's says he doesn't think they are going to have them this year, or the stuff would have been put out already. BTW, for those who have not yet had any of the 1/3 lb. Angus burgers, you're not missing much.

KB: It's like watching a car wreck. I nominate you for an XE emmy for best picture.

K: It's been a few years since I was in college taking psychology. That probably explains my 5th grade level definition.

As-as-ai-si-asi: Noun Plural. A collective of leaves that have turned brown and fell off a tree during the wrong season. This is a rare phenomenon.

Posted by dohopoki @ 03/11/2007 2:48 PM EST

Joey: Other than Cadbury Eggs and jellybeans, does Easter even have any food associated with it?  I know around here my mom basically makes the same stuff she makes for Thanksgiving, although ham is made instead of turkey.

Saw 300 yesterday, not a bad flick, but not that interesting either. HBO's Rome is better.

Posted by JLAJRC @ 03/11/2007 3:24 PM EST

Man, I could never even attempt that lucid dreaming stuff.  The way people describe it reminds me of the sleep paralysis stage I went through between the ages of eight and twelve.  Nothing like waking up with the feeling that something massive is sitting on your chest while sensing that something else is standing at the foot of your bed hating you as hard as it can, all without being able to move a muscle.  I finally solved the problem by never, ever sleeping on my back, and didn't find out years later that it's not an uncommon occurrence.  So it would have been sort of nice to know back in the day that A) I wasn't actually going insane and that B) demons weren't actually trying to kill me once a week.  Good times.

Posted by Jedoc @ 03/11/2007 4:07 PM EST

I have just about the opposite problem. I involuntarily jerk my legs when I sleep.

Posted by Mystie @ 03/11/2007 4:22 PM EST

JLAJRC

Uh, solid/hollow chocalate bunnies?  And DEVILLED EGGS.  And hard-boiled eggs.  And colored eggs.  Basically eggs.  Ham is a must.  Although, we have Ham on Thanksgiving, too.

Posted by Cameron T. @ 03/11/2007 4:25 PM EST

Nothing like waking up with the feeling that something massive is sitting on your chest

Is this the result of "waking up" during what is typically REM sleep, with the concomitent lack of muscle tone?

Reminds me of how you deprive a rat of REM sleep. You put him in a cage that has water on the floor of the cage and a small, upside down pot (or other podium). They can stay on the podium, out of the water as long as they are awake. As soon as they hit REM sleep, they lose muscle tone and fall off the podium into the water, waking them up and depriving them of REM sleep.

Quite ingenius, eh?

Before anyone says that this is "mean," know that it is (or at least was) a viable method of REM deprivation, used to study that effects of said deprivation.

Posted by K- @ 03/11/2007 4:26 PM EST

You hit it, K-: "Sleep paralysis occurs when the brain is awakened from a REM state into essentially a normal fully awake state, but the bodily paralysis is still occurring. This causes the person to be fully aware, but unable to move. In addition, this state may be accompanied by hypnagogic hallucinations." Jedoc, that sucks that you had to experience it without knowing what it was…Wikipedia also says that it can be preceded by a lucid dream, so you're spot on as well.
It hard to compare Rome and 300, since the format is so different, even if they're similar on the surface. Rome has a tendency to cheap out on battle scenes, for one thing, but they have a lot more room to develop characterization. Can you believe we only get a few more episodes? :( I still really miss Max Perkis as Octavian, but otherwise the last few episodes have been good fun.

Posted by squee4242 @ 03/11/2007 6:30 PM EST

I just knocked off another Fish Sandwich, this time the BK one…it was good at first, but then 1/2 hour later…I felt absolutely terrible. Ugh, literally fishy aftertaste. It only reminded me why I don't go there.

And comedian Richard Jeni died early today/'ast night due to suicide by self-inflicted gunshot wound. Damn, I loved that guy, but I heard he was under a bad illness and probably didn't want to suffer anymore. :(

Posted by Invader Norbert @ 03/11/2007 6:37 PM EST

my main weird fear is the build a bear workshop. I hate that hell hole. I went in there one time and the worker there told the girl to kiss the bears heart to give it life and then she put the heart in the empty skin and then stuck it's ass on the nozzle and it suddenly was a bear. It has completely scarred me from there on out.

Posted by danny @ 03/11/2007 11:49 PM EST

Dude, Build-A-Bear workshop is the best. You've got a mother, you've got a girlfriend, a child, you buy them a bear and I assure you they will love it.

Hell, I love it. I have a Hello Kitty Build-A-Bear.

You can buy clothing and accessories, it's the gift that keeps on giving. Little slice of heaven. I'd love to work there.

Everyone one here knows I'm dead serious :D

Invader Norbert:  I'm glad you like all the Flogging Molly!!  It's nice to know someone appreciates the pointless hours I spend making pointless playlists for my MySpace page. haha

Jessica Marie:  On the subject of marriage being "so much fun," I think I can handle it. :D   And thanks for the well wishes for my mom.

K-:  Cadbury Cream Egg Soda… *drools profusely*  I would buy a year's supply of that shit!  And when I was little I was terrified of windows.  I used to have this dream over and over again that the windows would light up and yell "Give us the girl!" in this crazy scary voice.  To this day I can't look outside after dark because I'm afraid there will be someone looking back at me.

Bill:  I'm literally terrified of Kevin Bacon.  It stems from a nightmare I had about him when I was little (after watching Footloose) where he was chasing me around trying to kill me with a butter knife.  I feel like I've written about this on a previous SNT… oh well.

I'm always having the dream where I'm in a fight and I go to punch the other person (or my attacker, as is sometimes the case) and I put all my strength into the punch, but when I make contact with their face it's like punching them with a feather.  Or I try to scream and it comes out a whisper.

Anyway, that's all for me.  I'm going to bed.  Hope everyone has a great week!

Posted by Special K @ 03/12/2007 2:04 AM EST

Special K-I'll be sure to keep your mom in my thoughts…and congrats on the engagement!  The happy stuff happening to other people always helps to bolster my hopes for myself.

I've been having two recurring dreams lately.  One has to do with me shopping for hair dye and not being able to decide which color to dye it.  Which, is easily explained, since I need to color my hair something awful.  The other involves me as the heroine in an almost inexplainable sim dating-type game….with vampires…and more!  I dunno about that one.

Posted by MissJess @ 03/12/2007 2:25 AM EST

I went into the Build a Bear workshop once and asked them if I could build a bear that would be the ultimate killing machine. 1,000 lbs of pure Kodiak terror augmented by cybernetic enhancements.

They said no.

My phobia is bad weather. Thunderstorms used to give me panic attacks, and I was utterly terrified at the prospect of a tornado. It got so bad at one point that I was afraid of going outside even in fine weather, because I was afraid of getting caught in a storm. It didn't help matters that I had two older siblings who thought my phobia was nothing short of hilarious.

Mystie:  It didn't help me to know the name, because it just made me notice it more, but the meds help a lot.  Requip for RLS, after a super fun sleep study they gave me a wonderful drug.  I try and run as often as possible to keep the feeling down, but it doesn't always help.  If the jerky legs ever bother you maybe look into it.
I fear turning on the garbage disposal, no idea why.  I just fear that switch shocking me.

Posted by RAS @ 03/12/2007 10:40 AM EST

Andrew  I hear you.  This may be the worst one of the year.
I have had the teeth falling out dream as well.  This may have been mentioned, but it apparently can mean that you feel as though you are losing control of something.  Aslo, I always have a dream where I am flying, but I don't want anyone to know I am able to fly, cause I am the only one who can fly.  Kinda like a Flight of the Navigator thing where I don't want to be experimented on.  I like the flying part o the dream though, it feels very real.

Posted by kb @ 03/12/2007 10:52 AM EST

I've had dreams where my teeth are falling out four times now…The last time I had it, I woke my fiance up and told him that maybe I should see a psychic or a shrink to have my dream analyzed…He told me he thought I should see a dentist…Heh.

I can't believe so many of you have had the same dream…Makes me feel good, like I'm not as crazy as I thought.

Stupid me.  My mind drifts off on the weekend and I always forget about the SNT.  Oh well, better late than never.

Fears I don't know if this counts as a fear, but I'm ultra sensitive about eyes, especially mine.  I can't touch them or even look at them too closely.  Contacts are definitely out.  I can't even put in eye drops.  Last week I scratched by eye somehow and it freaked me out.

Congrats to Special K on the engagement and I hope your mom gets better.

Bill I think I have a similar sleep spindle dream, but instead of falling on my face, I hear a gunshot in my head.  It is quite terrifying for a second or two.  This sometimes leads to Mystie's similar problem of involuntarily jerky my legs.

Anybody ever been to Hawaii?  I'm looking at a possible destination wedding there.  Any advice for visiting the islands?

Posted by BUCKLY! @ 03/12/2007 11:54 AM EST

At least you guys can sleep.  I've been attacked with insomnia the last couple nights.  Been busy watching my Muppet Show DVDS.

Chocolate Soda sounds good.  Has anyone tried the new Diet Pepsi Jazz Caramel Cream?  It's pretty good.  I just want Jones Soda to embrace Easter like the do the other holidays.

Posted by JLAJRC @ 03/12/2007 12:20 PM EST

I have the teeth dream, but in mine I always notice that one of my teeth is loose, so I start playing with it and it pops right out, then I start popping them out one by one. Other recurring dreams of note:
Trying to speak but don't make a sound
Being aware of my surroundings but unable to move (I'm not actually awake, because I'll dream that people are in the room who actually aren't - though I guess that could be the hallucinations.) I usually end up screaming at my husband to wake me up, but nothing comes out of my mouth (see #1)
Being in high school and realizing I've been "out sick" for so long that I don't remember my classes or what the exam is about (it's usually always exam day.) I don't know why I still have so many dreams about high school. I graduated 10 years ago.

If you're going to have a destination wedding, Hawaii sounds great. At least have it somewhere where people don't mind going. I personally hate destination weddings, but that may have something to do with the fact that I've never been asked to go anywhere I had any interest in seeing. I get so angry when people (close people who fully expect me to attend) have no problem asking me to take some of my precious 10 days of paid vacation and fork over a small fortune on airfare and lodging just to see them get married (well, my husband's paid vacation. That doesn't really apply to me anymore.) That's a bit of a sore point because no one we know who's gotten married recently (or is going to get married soon) is getting married anywhere close. Of course, it's usually family, who would be very hurt by the suggestion that it's not worth the trouble to come to their special day. Plus, I think of all the people who genuinely want to see a wedding (like grandparents), and are forced to miss it because they can't travel or can't afford the trip. Of course, if you're looking to have a small wedding without many guests anyway, it's not that big of a deal where you have it. Where did Dog The Bounty Hunter get married? That place was beautiful.

Peeps (or at least marshmallow) Soda is an idea just aching to happen.

Once in the 80's, I dream-replayed the entire Melting Grimace ad. And, with that peculiar Dream Logic, instead of watching it, I was one of the kids in it.  (brrrr)  That's why I search for an actual clip of it now, one of those "look at it with the perspective of time to put it out of my misery" kinda things.  And to prove it existed, too.

Old episodes of Freddy's Nightmares? Friday the 13th : The Series? Tales from the Crypt! NIGHT GALLERY?

And movies, plenty of them, too. It's the best.

Get up on that, post-haste.  It's not being advertised very much, yet, so don't be surprised if you hadn't heard yet.

They've finally cut out the middleman and made The Land Before Time: The Series. About 17 years too late, if ya ask me.

I thought you would have jumped on the new Doritos Fight for the Flavors promotion with Wild White Nacho and Smokin' Cheddar BBQ flavors…

Jeez…I'm so tired I read that as Flavor Flav. I'd like Flavor Flav to endorse something. Like some food is Flavor Flav flavor or some other play on words with his name.

Thanks again to everyone who had well wishes for my mom.  You don't know how much it means to my family and me.

BUCKLY!: my fiance and I were talking about a destination wedding in Ireland (we're both very Irish), but our families would kill us if they couldn't attend.  He still entered us into a contest put on by Guinness to win a trip to Ireland, but if we win it's going to be our honeymoon.  If we don't win… well, it looks like our families are going to be out some serious cash. :D

No shit, if you cut each movie up into 22 minute episodes you would have enough to make the first 3 seasons.

As for the lack of articles, I can tell some good stuff is coming because Matt has been right on time with the SNTs 3 weeks in a row. Even each within the same hour. The site is clearly in focus in Matt's mind.

Posted by dohopoki @ 03/13/2007 9:37 AM EST

Mustard Combos…that makes so much sense, but how did I never know about or try those?  That fact kinda saddens me…especially if they were honey mustard pretzel.

A Land Before Time Series?  I love the original, but frankly I've found the bits of all the other installments I've seen a little too high on the cheese factor.  I can't believe they're still goin' strong after almost two decades.

Flavor Flav…I'll never understand why they continue to give him and the tragic women around him more time in the spotlight.  Tragic.

Posted by peter @ 03/13/2007 9:46 AM EST

So I picked up Black & White 2 in that $20 EA strategy pack.  Huzzah for discount software.  It's a good game, it's just hard to justify getting only four hours of sleep because you were trying to train a ten-story monkey to throw his poo at Japanese people.  To say nothing of the perils inherent in the phrase "slapping my monkey around."

Actually I made the comment about the SNTs falling into the same hour. Is that what we're talking about? Who am I even referring this question to?

But I did already know that the Colonel and K- were real-life friends for 14 years, I saw the wiki about it.

Posted by dohopoki @ 03/13/2007 6:30 PM EST

We have a Wiki? That is so cool!

Yes, it was you who made that comment. But I collected all the compliments about me and quoted them for posterity.

Posted by K- @ 03/13/2007 6:34 PM EST

that's why you have the wiki.

AHHHH-HAAAAAAAAAA!!!
i new it, it was dohopki i was referring to!@!
but, if K. wants to go ahead and steal the accolades he's more than welcome!
BUT!!!!
IF Dohopoki isnt cool with that, may i suggest a rowsing game of Calvin-ball to determine a champ-eeeiiioooon??

Well, I am at Orlando Florida with my girlfriend celebrating our 2 year anniversary. If a an alien was to take a quick look at International Dr. he would think either a celestial clown exploded over this area or God ate fruitloops and pooed this place. I've never seen such a dramatic use of neon green, orange, and pink.

Posted by Bill @ 03/13/2007 7:22 PM EST

Yeah, I'm not too sure I've ever said "OMFG" in my life either.  Nope, definitely not.

Am I old school? I've been reading for like five or six years…I guess I am! Hurrah!  *old school dance*

It's cool Josh. Frightening, but okay. And I think I've been posting most of the time…under different names, but still posting. Posty posty. I have a ton of work to do and I'm way too tired and unmotivated to do it. GoodnizzzzzZZZZZZz

What the hell is Calvin-Ball?

Posted by dohopoki @ 03/13/2007 8:13 PM EST

Dohopoki:
to tell you the truth, i dont really know.
actually i dont think that ANYBODY KNOWS!!!
its from Calvin & Hobbes, a weird game with a soccer ball, flags to steal i think.
its a game that calvin made up in one of the first C&H books i received.

andif anyone knows if there actually is a game similar or that really is calvinball, i would love to know about it.

I've had tooth-loss dreams.  And two flying dreams- those were awesome.  Such serenity.

Bill: International Dr., huh?  I remember it having the worst traffic.  Have you been to Celebration?  Creepy!  It's mandatory lights out there at, like, 11pm.

Special K: Congrats!

If we're polling? As a general rule, I don't particularly like when people police other posters for content, and we know that the really bad eggs get the hammer (thanks to Mystie's handy work in the Wikipedia if we didn't already :) ) so most times it just seems unnecessary. I'm reminded of the time I got razzed for using "AFAIK", LOL.
(And then again, reading "OMGUPDATEPLZ" all the time does get really fricking old, so…yeah.)
I can't believe y'all don't know Calvinball…"Calvinball is played with whatever implements are available, often a volleyball (referred to as the "Calvinball") and a croquet set, and the rules are invented as the game goes along. The only consistent rule is that the playing rules can never be the same for two games. Calvin and Hobbes wear masks similar to The Lone Ranger's and Zorro's while they play…In the Tenth Anniversary Book, Watterson states that the greatest number of questions he receives concern Calvinball and how to play it. He then answers the question once and for all: "People have asked how to play Calvinball. It's pretty simple: you make up the rules as you go.""

Calvinball is the greatest game in the world.

I'm been reading the Calvin and Hobbes tenth anniversary book this week, just picked it up.

Wish I had the  money for the "Complete Collection" it looks super fun.

I just shelved a lot of Calvin + Hobbes today at work- I got to shelve in the humor section! Yay!

Bill- I am jealous- I want to be in Orlando.  :(

There are SO MANY books I want to use my new employee discount on…so far, I have spent most of the first paycheck that I have yet to receive…today, I bought a North American road atlas for my upcoming road trip to Michigan! Whoot!

Just checked out Super Mario Galaxy for Wii…Jesus, it looks like N64 on an acid trip! Seriously.

If you listen to the music in the youtube clip of the game, I think it rips off the score to 'E.T' at one point, and the score to 'Harry and the Hendersons' at another point. Seriously.

I've gotta track down this Wiki. It gets more awesome by the post.

mrjayberry

Some of us are so sad as to have all the original books AND the complete collection.

I've had the complete collection for over a year now, and I'm not halfway through it yet.  !

Posted by Cameron T. @ 03/13/2007 11:15 PM EST

I freaking Love Calvin & Hobbes, I have all the major books, but not the complete collection…need funds and time to read it.

But I'll throw in my Far Side collection, which I do have the Complete Collection for, as well as all 5 Galleries, the Prehistory, and the book with the last cartoons Larson drew that weren't in the 5 galleries and before the ones included in the Complete Collection.

I also got another Fish Sandwich for my quest, this time the KFC Fish Snacker. Small, cheap, not the best in the world, but better than BK's sandwich.

Hey, it's all about Frosted Coated Sugar Bombs and not having to worry about my parents having any more kids.  Calvin and Hobbes rocks, and Far Side still kicks ass over the many blatant rip off comics that try to mimic it

JLAJRC: I've tried some of the new gourmet Pringles.  I've had the szechuan barbecue and the sun dried tomato.  Both were good, but the szechuan ones were a little strong on the flavor.  The sun dried tomato chips were much better.

I also have a bag each of the sweet potato and parmesan garlic ones in the cupboard, but who knows when I'll get around to eating those.

But can I just say how much I do love me some guacamole Pringles?  Mmm. :)

Is anyone else completely loving that there's a TMNT movie ad in rotation on the big ad block on the main page? Cuz I am.

Posted by Mystie @ 03/14/2007 11:15 AM EST

Does anyone know what kind of continuity the TMNT film is going to take? What form of the turtles do I need to be familiar with? Is it the turtles that told Shreddar to commit Seppuku during their first meet or the turtles that went on a concert tour? Is it the turtles that went back in time or the turtles that went to the future? Is it an all new franchise of the turtles or is it selective ( ) continuity?

I think this is what is bothering me and keeping me from wanting to get into this movie. The stupid selective continuity ruined Superman Returns from the get go for me.

Hear hear! The first year they didn't have a Far Side desk calendar, I tried to compensate by buying one of the ripoffs. It was almost depressing. It would have punchlines like, "If snakes had restaurants" and then there'd be a bunch of snakes slithering around dressed as waiters. That was the punchline. No irony, just this idea of non-humans doing human things. They really missed the point.

Posted by Lori @ 03/14/2007 12:52 PM EST

dohopoki, the TMNT movie will contine in the timeline set by the first 2 live action movies, (lets pretend the third doesnt exist). The movie acknoledges that shredder is dead, and all the events that went on in the previous movies. This movie is not a reboot, which means it will not just retell their origin. I have read the junior novilization, and dont expect any old villans to be back, there are just some weird stone warriors and a masked rider (no i dont think they are the dimension x stone guys).

Posted by asdfnick @ 03/14/2007 1:14 PM EST

asasaisiasi: The sound a snake makes as it rides the Tilt-A-Whirl.

What I'm waiting for is "X-Entertainment: The Novel."  It'll go great on a shelf next to, "X-Entertainment: The Lunch Meat."

I have every calvin and hobbes book released, as well as the subsequent collections and the big three book career spanning collection as well. All of it was well worth the money as it has provided years of laughter for me and will hopefully be enjoyed by my son in a few years.

Special K: belated congratulations on your engagement…and I hope your mom is doing ok.

Assorted topics: I've never had any toothy dreams, ever.  But I have had the "can't scream, slowmo punch" one, as well as the dreaded "I show up for the first day of school and realize that school started two weeks earlier, and I don't know what classes I'm in and where the hell is my locker?"  Probably the scariest one is where I'm driving and just end up driving off the edge of a cliff or a huge bridge….since I've never had a flying dream, that's the closest I've gotten to the sensation of moving through the air - but since it's accompanied by the knowledge that I'm plummeting to certain doom kinda takes the thrill out of it.

Irrational fear: I firmly believe that if you don't make eye contact with birds, especially seagulls, they won't poop on you.

My birthday is tomorrow.  Suffice it to say that I am a ridiculous amount of years older than any of you, but that's the beauty of X-E…Matt brings us together, regardless of age!

I spent the day watching the "Tales From the Darkside" marathon on Sci-Fi.  Didn't show the one Matt liked, though.  What did you do today?

Trish - I'm not saying you're not way old, but I'm older than most of the people here as well.  Mentally, though, I'm probably about 8, so it balances out nicely.

Man, I've been reading this site since 2000!  Cripes.  See?  I am old.

Oh yeah.  And I finally picked up the awesome coffee table book, "Crystal Lake Memories".  It's so good.  Seriously, if you're into Friday The 13th at all, this thing is a must have.  It really reaffirmed how much I love that series.  For as bad as they all were (to one degree or another), you can tell through the interviews that the people working on them really (for the most part) put a lot of thought and love into them and tried their best with the limited budgets they had.  I know this is way off topic, but oh well.

K-: I wish the best for your dad.  Pneumonia is a horrible fight.  I hope he gets over it quickly.

For those who asked, my mom is doing MUCH better.  They finally took her respirator out and stopped sedating her so heavily (she was trying to pull the respirator tube out herself so they had to sedate and restrain her… not fun to watch).  But she's able to talk now and move her hands and she's in much better spirits.

Bill: Actually, the ring he gave me was his mother's wedding band.  I'm a no-frills kind of girl, so the sentimentality of it really pulled my heartstrings.  Funny thing is, I'm highly allergic to yellow gold… but it's been three weeks and no reaction yet!  Yay!

And I have said "OMFG"… many times… phoenetically.

And I had to share… today in my Medical Terminology class, my professor was talking about the skeletal system and associated terms.  He started off the lecture by saying "A few years back there was a show on TV… some of you may remember it… it was called Masters of the Universe… and there was a guy named Skeletor… he kinda looked like this guy…" and then he motioned to the demonstration skeleton standing in the corner.

Best. Lecture. Ever.

Mwuahahaha.

I guess i'll sneak in a Webstor reference since he was hanging out at a garage sale down the street and I swiped him for 25 cents.  The grappling hook worked so well on the commercial in the 80's, I havn't the foggiest why it isn't getting the job done today.
