Haven’t posted in a looooong time, and I’m drunker than shit, but Happy New Year Matt.  I can honestly say you made my 2006n much more bareable.

Happy New Year to you, too. Hope you’re enjoying your Wii as much as I am mine.

Happy New Year Matty boy, and lemme say something to you right now.  Buy. Trauma. Center. For. Wii.  I swear to God you will bow at my feet for this suggestion.  Guaranteed!

Happy new year everyone! Hope you’re having a grand time tonight :D
To bring the “Best Of” topic in from the last thread: I almost never make it to the movie theater (still haven’t even seen Pick of Destiny), but out of the ones I’ve seen, I’d have to give top honors to Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. Dave Chappelle’s Block Party, Pirates and Jackass were good too, but Borat made me laugh the hardest.
Shows: The Office (hard to top that season 2 finale, but season 3 has been great), DEXTER, Arrested Development (February still counts!), South Park.
Albums: Red Hot Chili Peppers: Stadium Arcadium, Ludacris: Release Therapy.
Games: Me and My Katamari, LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy.
Here’s to an awesome 2007, guys!

Posted by squee4242 @ 01/01/2007 2:44 AM EST

To be fair, I tried to see Pick of Destiny but it was out of theatres like two weeks after it arrived (here anyway) :(

But I know it would have been on the list had I seen it.

Posted by K- @ 01/01/2007 2:46 AM EST

And since I can’t edit posts, let me just add that I brought Guitar Hero II today (after finding out that the Wii, Madden NFL 07, and MLB 2K7 were all sold out) at Toys “R” Us, and I am now ADDICTED to it! I was worried that I wouldn’t do good on it because of the whole keeping-with-the-guitar portion of the game, but apparently I’m a fast learner, because I’ve done pretty damn good for a beginner. I’m a master at “Surrender”. Shit, I just want to pull out the guitar and play some more right now. Maybe I’ll do that.

Posted by Steven @ 01/01/2007 2:49 AM EST

K-, I know what you mean. My local theater was only playing it twice a day, the early and late show, and it was gone in a blink anyway. I had the same problem with For Your Consideration…at least it’s only two short weeks until new Extras! Damn those Brits and their getting to see it back in September.
Still an hour until New Year over here. I feel like I should be drinking.

Now off to play my Wii while buzzed. Pray that the straps hold out.

Happy New Year, XE Peeps!  Had a nice quiet dinner with a few friends.

I, too, miss Conan’s countdown for central time zone.  Why didn’t he do one?  Sad to just see a re-run of the ball….

Anyway, best whishes for a great year in 2007.  SEVEN!  Already!  Good lord….

Posted by Trish @ 01/01/2007 4:00 AM EST

Happy New Year Matt and the X-E family!….I hope all of your’s was better than mine:

I started the evening out at a lady’s apartment…don’t worry, it’s wasn’t as great as it sounded.  Apparently her roommate didn’t understand “small gathering” and invited everyone they knew and told them to bring everyone they knew….by the time I got there the place was packed with drunks, several that were underage (which sets off red flags since I work in education) and the lady was miserable all night.  She just got pissed and decided to go to her mom’s place.

Then I went to my cousin’s (as planned) around 12:45 to watch them shoot cheap fireworks in the rain, then go inside while two people play X-Box and everyone else sits there miserable.  After awhile a drunk redneck shows up.  Great.  Didn’t I just leave this party? He was so loud and, as exciting as it was to watch someone play a golf video game, I decided to leave.  Someone parked behind me and I kept asking for them to move the car.  The redneck finally turns and says,” Yeah, dude chill, we’re on it”.  Then to show off how classy he was, he sent his girlfriend out in the pouring rain to move the car!  Then he acted like I was ‘interrupting’ his stupid night or something.  Big fat doody head….

So now I’m home with a glass of vino, realizing that I’m glad ‘07 didn’t start off well, because if I had had to much fun there would be nothing to look forward to :)

Well, might as well give in my blog for the day.  Since everyone seems to be writing short ones, I might as well keep this short.  Heck, my little novels seem to get overlooked anyway, especially the last one.  Anyway, I do hope everyone had a happy and safe New Year.  I slept through the New Year out here.  Not much to do when you’re deployed in a place like Iraq.  Anyway, I was up a few hours later because I had to see the bitter rivalry football game between the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers.  Sorry but being from Chicago, this is something from an event.  I was up while other time zones were bringing in their New Year even though I was in 2007 for several hours.  My brother wished me Happy New Years when the Central Time Zone hit midnight so I was there to bring my hometown into the new year.  Anyway, that’s my experience and I hope next new year I’ll be back home so I could plan some goofy things to do to bring in 2008!  Take care everyone and I’ll be back tomorrow!!!!

Posted by BJ @ 01/01/2007 6:57 AM EST

cheers!

sad as it may be, pick of destiny was actually one of the better movies i saw this year (man what a bad year for movies it’s been), i definitely recommend if you appreciate screwball stoner comedies like harold & kumar

other picks for 2006: gnarls barkley, beatles love and tara conner (said in terminator voice)

2007!

Did anyone else think it was a little creepy seeing a legion of stormtroopers marching down the streets of California, backed by an band consisting of imperial officers and twi’lek slave girl color guard?  Cool, yes.  But creepy.

Posted by Cameron T. @ 01/01/2007 12:57 PM EST

Made it home alive.  I actually had a blast this year!  Had some drinks, made some new friends, kissed as many people as possible at midnight, crashed another party two houses down and made some more friends there, made a drunken taco run at 2 am (don’t worry, we had a DD).  Definately good times.

And now to do laundry and veg out in front of the TV for six hours because I have absolutely nothing else I have to do today. :)

Posted by Special K @ 01/01/2007 1:05 PM EST

ITA, cheeky! I looked at the year’s releases to make my list and it was pretty sad. There were some good dramas, but the action and comedy offerings were just pathetic. At least we know that 07 will give us Grindhouse :D
Best of comedians 06: Katt Williams and Jim Gaffigan (God Pocket!).
I’ve only just started to watch the Rose Parade but I’m already wishing I’d gone to see it live. I’ve been, but it’s different with stormtroopers.

Happy New Year X-E!

I tried to post this from my phone last night but I was too drunk to figure out how to get on the internet.

Is it time for the 2007 Advent Calendar yet???

=P

Posted by Darth Galvatron @ 01/01/2007 4:50 PM EST

Happy ‘07!  Would have posted last night, but we had a HUGE drunken party here at my house that got a tad out of hand.

3 broken closet doors, 5 broken bottles on the floor, one Wii that is now half-working, every single glass in the house is dirty, and 5 friends had to crash here.  Wowzers.  I have been cleaning for HOURS!

What a way to ring in the New Year: taking care of your drunk, drunk friends.  God, I wish I could drink. Stupid pills.

Posted by Muppet Baby @ 01/01/2007 5:04 PM EST

Well, I just woke up. And yes, entertainment-wise 2006 wasn’t the greatest. Especially in music. Besides the two albums I listed (both from artists I can ALWAYS count on) it was pretty much pure shite. Movies weren’t bad, and gaming was phenomenal, though, so I think it all balanced out. :D

This year has the long awaited release from my favorite band so I can’t help but be optimistic. And my resolution is to get a PS3, something I’m pretty sure I can keep :P

Posted by K- @ 01/01/2007 5:06 PM EST

OK, I’m back and fairly sober! Yep…I got kinda trashed last night. It wasn’t my house and I wasn’t driving, so I said “what the hell.”

What a way to ring in the New Year: taking care of your drunk, drunk friends.\

That’s what my Frat bro’s parents did last night. Me and 2 other guys ended up staying over (but we were all gonna do it anyway).

Posted by Invader Norbert @ 01/01/2007 7:26 PM EST

Heh, my friends called me at like 6pm yesterday and were all, “Dude we have booze and snacks and games, get your dead ass over here.” They couldn’t find shot glasses so they made jello shooters in Disney Princess Dixie cups. Yee haw. And oh god they kept going on about wanting to listen to Honky Tonk Badonkadonk… WHY DOES THAT SONG EXIST?! Oh, and we played Disney Scene It and I won one round because somehow it all came down to a staring contest, and since the usual goofy faces weren’t working on my opponent, I pretended like I was gonna pull out a boobie and she fell backwards and told me I was a cheater.

PS BJ, your website link isn’t working. It just goes to the main MySpace page.

Posted by Mystie @ 01/01/2007 7:43 PM EST

Why do they always leave Kairi out of everything they do involving Disney Princesses? And don’t give me the whole “she’s a princess of Heart” argument. They’re all the same, save Kairi. And for that matter they’re leaving Alice out. Disney wants KH III soooo bad, but they’re not willing to let Kairi be a part of what is rightfully hers. Or put KH plushies in their stores. Stupid Disney :(

I got sick yesterday, I’m still sick but I think that I’m getting better…

Posted by Darth Poop @ 01/01/2007 8:13 PM EST

What’s the new resolution of the year? I need to pick something I can stick with. I usually do pretty well with the “stick to it” but I think I am all out of motivation to change anything this year. That sucks. Maybe I’ll do something amazing like become a pirate or an astronaut or something. Yeah…..an astronaut/pirate. I’ll let you guys know how that turns out.

Posted by Bill @ 01/01/2007 8:37 PM EST

Eh, there’s a number of Disney ladies getting squeezed outta the Princesses lineup. Even Ariel and Jasmine get nosed out occasionally on account of not fitting into the whole ball gown aesthetic, and poor Pocahontas gets it worst of all. At least they’re not pretending to include Kairi and then just leaving her off all the toys.
I can’t believe I’m starting out the new year by Googling Disney Princesses. Seems inauspicious at best.

Posted by squee4242 @ 01/01/2007 8:46 PM EST

My resolution for this year is to not have one. Yep, by not having one, I can’t break it…excpet if I ever get one, which I’m not planning on doing.

Posted by Invader Norbert @ 01/01/2007 9:04 PM EST

Norbert-

That sounds better. What do I do with this helmet and eyepatch? :D

Posted by Bill @ 01/01/2007 9:21 PM EST

Glad I could provide you with that opportunity, Squee :D You make a solid point. And it only means that Disney’s crime is greater than I had originally thought.

Hotblack, that one took me a while.

I think Gizmo just remembered the “Coleco Tabletop Spat On” incident.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Posted by The Manimal @ 01/01/2007 9:59 PM EST

Heh, now that I think about it, Giz was looking pretty blazed out last we saw him.
K-, they’re always perpetrating something. I don’t even bother getting annoyed with whatever egregiousness they’re pulling; I just make with a Serenity Now. Until they do a reimagining of Alice as a Bratz-style tween with her own brand of tracksuits that have “1derland” printed on the butt, I can let it slide.

Posted by squee4242 @ 01/01/2007 10:46 PM EST

I repeat my “Happy New Year” from the last blog entry to all of those who went out last night. I had a more pleasant day today. I went to visit my grown cousin and her family with my uncle, then my sister and her boyfriend came by with my gifts from the family in Cape May County. (More details on said gifts in the Christmas Fallout 2006 entry.)

Let’s just say I learned this year why they call it the 12 Days of Christmas. I had an enjoyable Christmastide week, in some ways more fun than Christmas Day itself. It was different, anyway, and that’s really what I wanted - to move on.

My resolution for 2007 is to continue moving on, to finally find a decent, non-grocery-store job and join more groups or find more places to volunteer where I might meet people my own age and with similar interests.

Posted by starwenn @ 01/01/2007 10:55 PM EST

Hehe, I watched Seinfeld when Must See TV actually meant something.

To be fair, Square-Enix may not allow Disney the rights to use their original characters outside of the games, just as Disney has handcuffed Square as far as making entirely new storylines involving their characters and worlds.

I guess I’m just more likely to see fault in Disney than bite the hand that feeds me.

Posted by K- @ 01/01/2007 10:55 PM EST

Manimal, I’ve since found some Easter Eggs, but not the one you were talking about.

Happy New Year to all.  I actually quit smoking (again) on Christmas, so i don’t really have a resolution this year.  I have to say Nicorette is freaking expensive.  Maybe I’ll go for being more patient.  I do have issues there.
Seems so weird to be in the “normal” part of the XE year.  Looking forward to new stuff though.
Darn January and Febuary…

Invader Norbert, Hmmmm, haven’t found any others yet but I haven’t looked either. :) I’ll get right on it.

Mystie Happy Birthday and WELCOME TO ADULTHOOD. Yeah, yeah, 18 is adult blah blah. NOT TRUE. 24 is the gateway into the REAL adult life. Go ahead and start an IRA and pack up for FL. :)
These next few months are crucial for Matt, Erik, and me to see if we can NOT join 27 club started by Jones, Hendrix, Morrison, and Cobain. :scared:

Posted by The Manimal @ 01/02/2007 12:39 AM EST

Yeah, I quit a few months ago, but I’m totally counting it as resolution number one since it’s still harder than a motherfucka. I’m too cheap for Nicorette, so I went through a lot of Red Vines & played cell phone games when the urge hit…I’ve worn down the screen from playing so often :D

Posted by squee4242 @ 01/02/2007 12:51 AM EST

Happy New Year to all.  I had a Jones’ Holiday Pack party last night.  I think I messed it up by drinking them chilled.  I did pretty much gag on the Turkey and Gravy, but the Pepto wasn’t bad.

Happy Belated New Year!!  The eve was actually quiet for me; my boyfriend got food poisoning somehow (but I am CERTAIN it was the KFC he got for lunch - I haven’t eaten there since I saw the PETA video back in ‘04) and has been sick since Saturday.  Waking up yesterday morning without the headache and the bar stink… it was kinda nice :)

Mary Mary

I’m going on about 4 hours.  Still groggy.

One of the great gifts I got from the folks this year was a mattress foam for my boyfriend and I’s bed….it is HEAVEN- it’s called a “memory foam” and it indents and absorbs your body like a hug.  I have not woken up before noon since we put it on the bed.

On New Year’s Day I had 5 people wake up at my house in various degrees of ‘hangover-ness’ and I made 12 cups of coffee and Pop Tarts for everyone and I was a hero.  I like starting the year off as a hero. :)

Posted by Muppet Baby @ 01/02/2007 12:56 PM EST

Ugh, Disney Princesses.  I love how they leave out so many of the REAL princesses (real royalty) and include the ‘popular movie’ heroines instead (i.e. Belle and Cinderella, who are not royalty by birth)

Posted by Julie @ 01/02/2007 2:02 PM EST

Mary Mary  I completely understand.  It seems as though most people are half awake today.

Good day, and Happy New Year to my fellow X-E denizens!  Nice to see everyone made it, and kinda-sorta hale and hearty.  I only have my standard resolutions: survive the year, and learn something new.  And now, I’ll have to add “get into a staring contest with Mystie” as well.

Hey Muppet Baby, here’s an old family cure for feeling under the weather, good for flu, colds, and according to my Ma, great for helping with hangovers (back in Cali, the parents had a fairly active social life): Half orange juice, half 7UP.  Depending on how skeltered your condition is, you can make one glass last most of the day.  Speed of conumption goes hand in hand with how much better you feel.  An occasional swig of ginger ale won’t hurt, either.

Posted by kingklash, medieval soda therapist @ 01/02/2007 2:33 PM EST

Hey folks, hope everyone’s New Year celebrations went well…mine was pretty low key but it was still fun…may X-E graciously guide us into 2007 and beyond…

I went out and got loaded.  Free champagne at midnight and all that jazz.  All in all a pretty good night.  I just wish I could remember all of it! I’m glad to hear everyone seemed to have a good one as well.  I’m definitely too old for excessive partying, my hangover was one of the worst I’ve had.  Good god, I’ll be 26 in 6 days.  Let’s see if I actually quit smoking this year.

Posted by MissJess @ 01/02/2007 4:43 PM EST

MissJess, if you want a good incentive to quit, watch any episode of The Venture Brothers that has Dr. Girlfriend in it.  Imagine if your voice sounded like hers.  Nothing confuses the average American Male like a attractive young woman with Harvey Firestein’s voice.  They just want to be loved, is that so wrong?

So now I have to get it repaired. [sigh]

Anyway, thanks for letting me spend my holidays with all you crazy folk.  I’m going to throw in my lot with the “link the Advent Calendar” crowd.  (I finished it, but it’s so worth re-reading.)

2006 was not too big of a year entertainment wise, but at least it had lots of good stuff.

The Science of Sleep and Borat were the best films I saw this year; the Hold Steady, Tool and Yo La Tengo made my favorite records of the year and the Ohio State-Michigan football game more than lived up to the hype.

Posted by mjf7583 @ 01/02/2007 11:57 PM EST

Sorry phunqsauce! I would have never known that if Matt had not written the past Tim Curry article in the 2006 Halloween countdown.

Special K: that’s hilarious. That completely throws the whole “in bed” ending to fortune cookies.

Happy New Years, all!  Crazy week. My sister won a seat on the township committee in November so swearing in was on New Years Day, which meant I couldn’t get all nasty-faced drunk in NYE (which I usually do) as I promised her I wouldn’t be hung-over and green in the family photos that came to follow.  It turned out well.  I got screwed up and flagged at the after-party which made up for it all.  And I had yesterday off thanks to Gerry Ford.  A good time all around!
