Sun Chips Go Christmas!

The Advent Calendar is now up to date -- yes, it would be nice to have it ready at the start of each day rather than the end of each day, but this is what happens when Advent Calendar entries grow to a hundred times their original size. I will now celebrate the completion of this giant sized entry with a bag of Christmas-flavored Sun Chips.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted these, but my eyes never lying. Sun Chips is celebrating the holidays with limited edition packages of "Cinnamon Crunch" flavored snacks, which come in cinnamony foil bags with big cinnamony bow graphics on 'em.

Only Sun Chips could successfully pull this off, because...well, could you do cinnamon potato chips? Cinnamon cheese puffs? Nope. Sun Chips can get away with it because nobody really knows what a Sun Chip is to begin with. A company can throw around the term "multigrain" all they want -- all we take from that is "moderately healthy," and it requires a good five minutes of thought to even come up with a reasonable theory on what "multigrain" actually tastes like. Within that, if Sun Chips wants to throw cinnamon all over itself, we've got no basis to complain. We can't say that cinnamon "doesn't go" with Sun Chips BECAUSE WE DON'T KNOW WHAT SUN CHIPS ARE!

I say this mostly because my heart tells me that it is both wrong and criminal to make cinnamon-flavored chips, and yet, I grab a handful of these and totally spite myself by being pleased. I'm confident that these are about as good as cinnamon-flavored chips could possibly be.

Looking to compare its flavor to some other flavor, the best I can come up with is this: Picture eating a bunch of Cinnamon Toast Crunch mashed together with fifteen tablespoons of salt. Actually, that sounds kinda gross. These really aren't gross. Weird? Yes. Gross? No. Once you get past your culturally influenced reservations about cinnamon-flavored chips, they're rather pleasant, definitely festive, and arrive in bags so reflective that you can nearly watch yourself eating in them.

Sun Chips are delicious, and those cinnamon ones look even more delicious. I must have some.

Since Claire is back, maybe Bird will be next? Please?

Hey hey, boys ‘n’ berries. Dropping in for my first comment this christmas, woo! It’s been a pretty mediocre one so far, down here in New Zealand, my family’s too full of their own bitter squabbles to do any-fucking-thing at all. There’s a painful gaping BLACK HOLE where the christmas cheer should be. So once again, Matt, I thank you for making the season a little more season..y. Seasonful. Seasonous. Seasoned. Yeah.

Ooh, just where was Mista Snowman during the battle? He disappeared. Then christmas-magically reappeared. Will be be reinserted for the special edition? Does he have a cloaking device? Is this a plot point that will totally be touched upon later? Time will tell. But not yet, bastard that it is.

Seasoned greetings, all!

I like Cinna-Bon cinnamon buns. Those things are so damn good. I remember they tried to make a CEREAL out of mini cinnamon buns, but I haven’t seen it in a while so I guess it died out just like I knew it would.

Ok look Matt. Bring on the new Calendar Entry. I gotta work early.
*pouts*

Umm… Mat. I dont wanna be a prick or anything, but you said in your entry that the celnder is now up to date, and it is still a day behind.

Chestnuts roasted by Chris @ 12/19/2006 9:47 PM

Chris, I said that on the 18th. AND THERE ARE TWO Ts IN MY ABBREVIATED NAME.

I see Kelogg’s Mini-Swirls cereal all the time at work, but I haven’t had it recently.

But the Sun Chips…I haven’t seen them at all, anywhere, the entire holiday season! I didn’t know they existed! I must find them! I love Sun Chips, and I love cinnamon! They look like Cinnamon Toast Chips!

And the Advent Calender gets a touch of the 60s Batman today, with a wild battle, a wonderful rescue, and the icy return of one of the great X-E villians. Will Claire somehow manage to wreck havoc, even from a frozen prison?

Actually Matt he is right about the “apparent” date that the comment was posted to the blog. The date of the entry is 12-19, but you very well may have “said” it on 12-18. Either way who cares, lemme know when you get your sea monkey thingy.

Chestnuts roasted by Old E @ 12/19/2006 9:59 PM

Oh, it was written on the 18th? Im very sorry.
Didnt mean to offend Matt.

Just joking with you, Chris. :) I never make my self-imposed deadlines.

My God, Christmas Eve is Sunday.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 12/19/2006 10:25 PM

Matt: In a way, I am jealous of you- you have an adoring audience, panting at the mouth for your latest bit of writing…on the other hand: we XE bloggers can be annoying as hell sometimes, I am sure! ;) Take your time, enjoy your vacation and make sure the calendar stays fun for you.

As for me, I just found out MY PARENTS DON’T HAVE THE INTERNET AT THEIR HOUSE ANYMORE- NO INTERNET OVER XMAS BREAK. Christ, I won’t even see the end of the advent calendar!!!

Matt- Shhhh! I’m not ready for Christmas! I mean, I’m always ready,…..but I’M NOT READY!!!

I would like to apply for an extension to the season this year.

Thank you MB. I keep watching these kind of interactions play out, and holding my tongue. You did it much more civally than I ever would. I’d be accused of “shitting on other post-ers,” when I’d just be trying to keep post-ers from shitting on Matt.

Chestnuts roasted by K- @ 12/19/2006 10:37 PM

For a second there I thought you thanked the MIB, and wondered what the hell Tommy Lee Jones had to do with anything. My mind works in mysterious ways. Oh and I have the old lady’s nature/deer T-shirt on again for those of you that wanted to know (OK no one wanted to know)

Well, it’s officially Christmas. I just tore the parents basement up and found my official Red Rider BB gun from ’87 when movie toys really could shoot your eye out. I can now hold ol’ blue while we watch 24 hours of The Christmas Story. Wouldn’t be the same without it.

Chestnuts roasted by Bill @ 12/19/2006 10:49 PM

K- Thanks! I hate it when people crap on Matt- not that anyone really has lately though! Due to all the Xmas cheer Matt provides, I hope he’s been feeling the love we send his way.

Bill- In the words of Mista- Holy Shit. You have the actual gun from the movie? They sold those? They should totally still sell them every year! I want one so I can be complete.

Chestnuts roasted by Muppet Baby @ 12/19/2006 11:14 PM

did i mention i also got the new Hannibal Rising book? yup

Chestnuts roasted by mandy_Reeves @ 12/19/2006 11:15 PM

Muppet Baby: Don’t worry about me — seriously, I couldn’t ask for a better group of regulars, and even the irregulars are usually super good folks, too.

Miss Jess: I keep telling myself that between the tree still being up and having a bunch of new gifts to enjoy, that the week between X-Mas and NYE counts as “more Christmas seasoning.” It helps beat the blues when I think about how little we have left. :)

Bill: Thank you for reminding me that I need to watch A Christmas Story like, now. I’ve managed to go the whole season without a single viewing.

Also: Working on Advent now, but I expect it to be 15-20 mins late because it takes about 30 tries to get a clear picture of a Playmobil figure trapped in ice.

Last post before the NyQuil takes over.
Matt: Is your Amazon wish list updated automatically or is this all you are asking for?

By the way, thanks for the Jukebox, I was busted singing Christmas In The Stars with a 3PO accent at the Grocery store. May have had a little R2 whistle as well.

Chestnuts roasted by Bill @ 12/19/2006 11:49 PM

Matt: Manual focus is your friend.

Also, I believe that the Christmas season lasts until 12th night (Thus, the twelve days of Christmas). So we’ve got like, three weeks. :)

Dun Dun Dun…Blair Winningham bustin’ out the box.

Chestnuts roasted by K- @ 12/20/2006 1:27 AM

OMG! An ominous, foreboding harbinger of future things to come!

Chestnuts roasted by Cameron T. @ 12/20/2006 1:32 AM

Matt, is it worth the trip or should I just resign myself to working with the Assmouth twins?

I would so see a band called The Assmouth Twins.

Advent is awesome again. I loved the running gag with the bunk beds. And I’m agreeing that the Extreme Closeup Mistah Snowman is freaking hilarious.

And add me to the list of those who wanna pour some cinnamon on Mystie‘s Buns. :D
