12/15/2006: Peppermint Whipped Cream?
The Advent Calendar has been updated for December 15th, and holy shit, I cannot believe it’s already December 15th. 2006 has been the quickest year in history. Tonight, we’re supposed to go find the tree. In recent years, I’ve become pretty fond of “miniature trees,” and I don’t mean tabletop bullshit trees or anything like that, but rather SPECIALLY BRED trees that are about 4′ high, but really full and boisterous.
They tend to cost more than the regularly sized giant trees for reasons I cannot comprehend, but since there’s less green to work with overall, we can totally saturate the bitch and create THE most decorated tree on all of God’s green Earth. Plus, at only 4′, we’re free to put the entire tree on some kind of platform, which decreases the chances of cat-related tree injuries that will make me angry and manifest into tree-related cat injuries. I’ll let you know how it goes. Now, let’s talk about whipped cream.

In the spirit of the holiday season, Land O’ Lakes has taken whipped cream (or for most of us dolt, “whip cream”) to the extreme and unveiled new
peppermint whipped cream — a sweetened, ultra pasteurized bastion of Yuletide cheer that arrives in a special, reflective can trimmed with snowflake graphics and other icons that’ll help you associate peppermint whipped cream with Christmas. Notwithstanding the missed opportunity of failing to give their Native American Butterwoman mascot a Santa cap, this is still a pretty decent little idea.
It’s also a chance for me to tell the world how much I hate taking photos of tall, cylindrical items. To fit the whole product, I either have to make the image really small, or really large, or if I really want it to be somewhere in the middle, I’ve gotta pad the left and right quadrants with empty space. It’s the kind of thing that can suck the holiday spirit right out of a person, so let’s see if the stuff tastes good enough to put that spirit right back inside me.

Yeah, I
was kinda wishing for some white/red swirly action, but despite its plain coloredness, this is some mighty fine peppermint whipped cream. Actually, it takes just like mint chip ice cream to me, which is a totally welcome comparison since that’s my favorite ice cream flavor. Whipped cream is so not a part of my everyday life that I’m hard-pressed to think up a really great use for a special peppermint version, but if you’re gonna boink on Christmas morning and your target is game for kinkiness, this would certainly be appropriate.
PS, this is the last day for free shipping on Amazon, so if you were considering buying me a $3000 Pac-Man game, now’s the time soul sister.

Peppermint-flavored whipped cream…sounds like a good idea, and I don’t evem like peppermint or whipped cream that much.

I don’t know why I have never really commented, but, I have followed the advent calendar ever since their inception! Excellent stuff. I have been thikning about doing a photo comic with my lego Han Solo and Luke Skywalker ever since I saw the calendar, however, I cannot think of anything clever. (I had Chewbacca at one time, too.) I love peppermint, but, whipped-cream is a so-so thing for me. I guess it’s a good thing. Oh? Anything cool in store for the calendar on the 19th? It’s my birthday! heh

Friday it is indeed. I can’t believe its the last weekend before Christmas weekend. ITs a bummer because we have yet to get Christmas weather around here. It’s hard to go do christmas light seeing and other such acts when its 60 out.
anyway I considered getting ya Pacman …then remembered I had bills to pay and…need food once in awhile so decided to go a different route, hope you like it.
The Calander is awesome as always and I just wanted to take a moment to thank you. To me the Advent Calender is as much a part of Christmas as Charlie Brown and wrapping paper. Halloween’s without count downs, Thanksgiving without parade reviews and Christmas without Mare are just not the same. So thank you for keeping up with these even though life is a bit busier these days.

Actually, Butter Woman sounds like a legit American Indian surname. If you want the red stripes, there’s tips you can buy that fit over the nozzle with some kind of food coloring inside that’ll stripe it, stripe it good.

Off topic: Does anyone have call of duty 3 for the Wii? I’m thinking of asking for it for Christmas but I don’t want to be disappointed. Any other Wii recomendations would be awesome as well. I already have rayman, zelda, and madden. Wii forever!
Also I heard that the last chance of getting a Wii for Christmas is this Sunday since many retailers are running circle ads in the paper. Those ads require they keep a certain number in stock so if you really want to rock your presentee’s world with the Wii you can camp Sunday morning.
Box is back!

heya Matt,
Glad to see Box is finally back! Hopefully he’ll fare a lot better than Mare’s brother from the FIRST advent calendar
Got to say, it just keeps getting better and better this year!
PS: Sorry, can’t help you with the $3000 PAC MAN game….but if you still want the V-Final Battle series, I have it on VHS! Let me know…

I was just about to purchase that Pac-Man Arcade Game for you Matt, but that Santa on the Amazon Wish List link creeped me out. That look he’s giving me is making me nervous. No, Santa, I will not “ride” your “sleigh”.

Wow, Ninth post! I cracked the top ten. I usually behind on all this stuff but I feel like the remainder of the day will be better for this. Anyway, yeah I agree this year has flown by. Seems like I just took down the Halloween decorations, wait, I did. Anyway, great work Matt keep up the hard work and thanks for another great year on XE.

Peppermint whipped cream sounds pretty good, on hot choclate, mmmm.
I wanted to congradulate Matt on doing a remarkable job on the advent calendar storyline this year.
After last years calendar I really thought you had hit a peak with nowhere to go but down with these characters, and against the odds you have managed to succeed where many writers fail and are spinning a compelling story once again.
Kudos Matt, the good kind, not the undersized granola bars.

Is it just me or is there an unusual amount of peppermint Christmas food this year? I had to buy orange flavored tooth paste today to off set the amount of mint I have already had this year.

Matt, maybe to help raise money for the Pac-Man machine, you could hold an X-Entertainment Convention. Basically, so a bunch of us could come over and check out all of your cool stuff. I’d pay $10 for that. Perhaps…$20.
Also, if anybody is interested in various Mickey Christmas specials (I’m looking at you, the burro). Mickey’s Magical Christmas is on Saturday on Toon Disney and Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas (!?!) is airing Monday. I think they are both at 5pm.

Woo! New Post!
I got an Xmas Party to go to tonight and I tried to burn the jukebox songs onto a cd…I need a real Burn program and not Windows Media Player, so how bout someone pitch in and buy me THAT for Xmas?
ALERT!!! Tonight at 8 EST, VH1 will be running an all new edition of AL-TV! Sadly, I got that Xmas party to go to, so I’ll probably miss it, and I’ll probably catch the noon rerun tomorrow.
Yo, Trav get Rayman: Raving Rabbids. Game Informer was pretty hard on the non-Zelda Wii contenders, save Rayman. I trust GameInformer, perhaps you should too.

Shit, I can’t even afford the shipping on the Pac-Man machine. Plus, you’ve gotten more Xmas presents from your wishlist than I have total! And I know what’s in all those boxes, because I was there for the purchasing of most of them.

Wow, I can’t believe it is december 15h already. This month has zoomed by.
Its a shame becuase I have yet to get into the christmas spirit. Its a little bit hard to considering we hare having an extremly warm year here in Ct and it is 60 degrees out.
BTW, in the advent calender today, is it just me or is Evil Guy carrying Mare in a condom?

Haven’t posted in a while, but while y’all are talking about video games, I saw a $300 (or was it $3000?) game machine in, of all places, an arts and crafts store. This thing’s legit, too. It had Frogger, Castlevania, Contra, and a bunch of others. I thought it was an odd place of it.
In other thoughts, remind me not to mate with a Mare. Sure, you avoid diaper changing after a few days, before (as Bill Cosby once noted) odor becomes part of the poopoo, but you don’t get to really enjoy having a baby.
Is Box old enough to vote or drink?

Oh man I’m soo sick. I managed to get the flu or something but I am glad I am getting this out of the way before Christmas. Anywho, maybe it’s the ‘tussin tripping but I saw this dude’s review of kid art and it reminded me of Matt’s humoristic writting style. Who knows Matt, you probably hang out with this dude.

The Advent Calender is definately getting…creative. I can’t wait to see Mare’s reaction to the latest development with her “child”…that is, if we ever get her back…
Umm, Peppermint Whipped Cream sounds tasty, but this is one of the few items Matt’s mentioned I haven’t seen around. Not to mention I prefer my whipped cream in tubs to in cans. This sounds too yummy to pass up, though. Maybe I’ll try Super Fresh…

I knew Box was going to reappear today, but I have to admit that the sudden metamorphosis caught me by surprise. I guess that I should have expected it, as there is always some new item each day, and I guess Box and another item *both* couldn’t have fit in the 15th box.

K- I also remember the “trick” with the Butter Indian’s knees, from the early 80’s - I’m sure kids have been passing this trick along since the mascot first appeared on butter cartons. Cheap thrills for a sex-starved pre-teen.

just spent tonight @ the newscorp (aka fox) holiday party. held at the hilton in NYC. The theme this year was “travel” so as you walked in they handed out penuts with about a dozen girls dresed as airplane stewardesses.
as you moved on to the next rooms each one was themed after a travel destination (presumably a newscorp related airlane favorite) the dance room was decorated with disco lights featuring logos such as FOX NEWS and FOX SPORTS and FOX. The personal highlight for me being what appeared to be an extra from queer as folk dressed as life guard.
so, even though i dont post here very often (but have been reading since 2001) given the ridiculousness of my own night I’m posting my first informal survey
what was everyone elses X-mas work holiday party like?
Speaking of mint, The Candy Cane Jones Holiday Soda is DELICIOUS. SERIOUSLY. It tastes just like it sounds. Also, the mint chocolate Hershey Kisses RULE!

Fox News…yuck. I walk by that building every day and try to mess with their anchors through the window. I have yet to be successful in getting a reaction, but someday. Stupid biased reporting…
As for your question, our company is rather small (11 people). We just had dinner and a secret santa exchange at a bar on our block. Not very exciting, but I’ll never turn down a free meal.

Wow! The month has really gone by fast! Great job on the advent calendar, Matt. I’ve been following the adventures of Mare since 2003. Like most of the other people have said, it would be nice to have some winter weather to go with Christmas. Tomorrow’s high is going to be 61 and that’s not even a record here in New Mexico, it’s been 70 in February. Anyway, it’s been a long time since we’ve had a white Christmas. Who knows, there’s still time.

I’m in agreement 100% — the weather this season has been just nuts. When I say I want it to be freezing, I’m not kidding; I’m on vacation now, so there’s no commute for me. Where’s the fun in that if my bus stop compatriots aren’t suffering every morning?
As for office parties, I skipped the big MTV bash this year because I’m a big bashin’ loser.

You know, not until earlier this week did it not feel like Christmas. We were X-Mas shopping, and my girlfriend had to go to Hallmark, so we did, and oh my Christ, did I not have my own little scavanger hunt to myself. While she looked for “cute but not lame” snowman gift decorations for her sister, I was discovering the recent, and finally apparent, reaping of the advertising novelty that could have always been A Christmas Story.
There were three greeting cards, all that when you opened, along with the inside punchline, was an at least 6 second audio dialogue from the film.
But what really drew me in was the sole tree ornament from the film they had; the Fragile box that the leg lamp came in. It was this small, 3*1.5 plastic wooden crate, that you could open and see the lamp inside. But on the back was a button that played:
-“Fra-geeal-a” Huh, must be Italian.
-I think it says “fragile,” honey…
And then, of course, the lamp lit up for a few seconds after/during. And my fucking luck, they were sold out. It was 18 bucks, but I was willing. We even hit up a second Hallmark that night, though they had no such thing.

I can’t eat anything even remotely peppermint-flavored after that wild night of drinking and entire bottle of Aftershock followed by an entire bottle of Avalanche (if you don’t know: Aftershock = cinnamon and Avalanche = peppermint). I spent all night going “Hot!” *sip of Aftershock* “Cold!” *sip of Avalanche. I’ve never been more sick in my entire life. But, just for the record, I give mad points to the guy/girl who came up with peppermint whipped cream… mucho creative-o.
Bob McSmith: my work rented out this gorgeous lodge for the weekend, fed us, gave us gifts, and then everyone drank and played poker or pool all night. A good time was had by all. I just wish I wouldn’t have kissed that guy in Marketing…
ColonelCatsup: I saw those cards! They’re awesome! Now if I only knew someone as crazy about A Christmas Story as I am to give them to!

I know I’m late to the party, but this weather makes me not even want to get a tree. We finally have a huge living room that calls for a proportinately large tree, but we also finally have a kitten - I’m not sure whether to go with the big tree or not. The effort is almost not worth it, or is it? It just doesn’t feel like Christmas this year.

I’m sorry some of you guys are having a hard time getting in the spirit this year. 60-degree temperatures be darned, I am SO ready for Christmas. The living room smells like apple cinnamon candles and balsam pine, the stockings are full, and there’s a pile of shiny wrapped presents under the tree. Bring it on, Santa! As Andy Williams sings, “Christmas is a feeling in your heart”.
By the way, I concur that this is, by far, the best advent calendar so far. I thought I’d weep for the loss of the advert (which I preferred), but this year’s story has been so interesting I haven’t really missed it.

Jessica, on the tree, all you have to do is make sure the base is wide enough that the kitten can’t knock it over, then use the wire hangers on all of the ornaments and twist them on so the kitten can’t knock them off the tree.
Oh, and don’t use glass ornaments. That’s just unhappiness waiting to happen.
Oh, and no tinsel. He will eat it, and you will have very shiny piles of kitty vomit all over your house.

Man, yesterday I was “volunteered” to help with our preschool Xmas party for the kids. So, I was at work for FOURTEEN HOURS- from 9AM until 11PM. We had 15 crazy kids at the party- they wore pajamas and we fed them candy canes and watched Xmas movies. It was insane and I came home and crashed on the couch. 14 hours with 2, 3 and 4 year olds is TIRING! Got here late to check the calendar- glad to see Box is BIG! He will be much more fun with actual dialogue, as opposed to ‘gagagoogoo’
I skipped out on my tutoring duties 2 nights ago to go to Wal-Mart and buy a new 7 ft. tree, bring it home and decorate it. It SORT OF feels like Xmas…the grass is still green here and all it does is RAIN. Where’s the goddamn snow already?? It’s CANADA for Christ’s sakes!
I wish I could afford to get Matt the Pac-Man game- he has definately given me $3000 worth of happiness over the years!!

I’ve finished the albums and concerts sections. I thought I was done with the movies section, but I got so distracted complaining that The Pick of Destiny left theatres too quickly for me to see it, that I forgot I have to do Advent Children. So, I have to finish that, and the Kingdom Hearts part of the video games section and I can call it a year.
