11/26/2006: The Darth Vader Snow Globe?

I’ve been trying to cut back on frivolous spending, which is a lie, but there really was no way to avoid buying this Star Wars “Musical Holiday Waterball,” a title that makes me wonder if the term “snow globe” is trademarked. There are a few different versions available, but you’d be a damned idiot to pass up on Darth Vader for Yoda, for one very adorable reason:

Dude’s building the Death Star, out of snow! And he’s all crouching down and shit! If that isn’t the cutest thing since Admiral Ackbar intentionally synched his “fall back into the chair” motion so his neck would hit his seat’s headrest at the exact moment the Super Star Destroyer crashed into Death Star II at the end of Return of the Jedi, I don’t know what in the hell is.

All that aside, it’s a very nice snow globe. Sometimes, products like this will sneak by more on the merits of the licensee than the actual quality, but I’m happy to report that it’s a well made and quite heavy snow globe, with a finely carved base and swimming snowflakes and everything. Perfect.

Incredibly, the Star Wars “Musical Holiday Waterball” doesn’t play a chimey version of the Cantina song, but rather, “Let It Snow.” The thought of Darth Vader building the Death Star out white heaven is one thing, but picturing him doing that while humming “Let It Snow” is the answer to Charlie Brown’s question. This is what Christmas is all about.

Hunch my ass — now we know the real reason Vader was so eager to the flip the whole fucking Imperial fleet around and head for Hoth.

Here I am about to go to bed. “Oh, just one more peek at X-E,” I tells myself. “I won’t post though because it is getting to be too much.” And here I am.
I saw those at the unofficial store of X-E (which I won’t mention until they start cutting checks) but I couldn’t bring myself to spring the 30 bucks to get them both. I think Yoda is just standing there with a Santa outfit on.
AND, those other ornaments of the original trilogy are also calling me. I want to wait until they go on clearance but I am worried that I will miss the boat. ADVISE ME X-Ers

Awesome post! I had to pick up that item a couple of weeks ago, and now it will be a part of my holidays for the next 72 years or so of life I have left.

That snowglobe is AWESOME. My mom used to collect them, most of them from Disney. Those RULE. The most unusual one she has is the one from “Fargo” that is the woodchipper scene. Instead of snow, it’s blood.

Manimal: Last night was the first time I’ve ever seen Ridgemont since it’s seems to be one of those movies that is “classic” that you have to see. I found it amusing, but not laugh out loud funny. I think it went unneccessarily kind of dark in the end with pregnancy storyline, but then they resolved that in five minutes. But I can see why Sean Penn became a star. I just wish he would do another comedy instead of being “Mr. Serious Guy” continually. Even De Niro lightened up in the Meet the Parents films.

Right now on Fox Movie Channel is French Connection 1 and 2 double feature. Haven’t seen those either. I’ll report if I liked them tomorrow.

You mentioned a while ago that you got your hands on the new Jones Soda holiday pack. Can we expect a review any time soon?

Larry: Yes and no. I mentioned this in another thread, but I think I’m going to skip this year for the full-blown mega review, mainly because I just feel it’d be too similar to the last two. Also, that’s traditionally a November article, and I was in a time crunch and forced to pick between that and a parade review. Went with the parade.

I will get to reviewing them soon, but it’ll be a little more straightforward, short, and on the blog as opposed to its own page. That said, it’s just as good as the previous sets.

I was at Eckerds this evening and took a strole through the Christmas isle and found Christmas animal pooping candy dispensers. Poo-lar bears, penguins and deer. Nothing says Merry Christmas like eating a nice handful of deer sh#t.

Thanks to Matt, I now know what I’m getting my sister and bro-in-law for Christmas. I just hope they don’t see it first!

I’m not the biggest Star Wars fan, but I do own/enjoy the movies (especially around this time of year, for some reason) so I may even pick one up for myself!

I saw it in the store and started laughing hysterically. My girlfriend thought I was crazy. I got one but they all seem to have that giant bubble in the top.

Do they make Halloween snow globes? If not they should! I would love a happenin’ graveyard scene playing the Monster Mash or 1313 Mockingbird Lane with the Munsters jingle. Oh, Halloween, why must you come and go so quickly?

One of the latest Jones Soda Holiday Pack flavors is “Green Pea.” They didn’t name it “Green Peas” because they WANTED that kind of horrified confusion when you say the flavor aloud. Heh, do they rule or what?

tonight/this morning is the first i’ve seen of X-E’s Christmas Season motif, or at least, the first I’ve noticed. Was it just put up, or did I just fail to notice it until now?

Sweet baby Jesusclause. Now we all know I love me some Snow Globes and Star Wars as well for that matter, but please, God in heaven, I need one of these. I swear I’ll treasure it.

Now, if we can just get Boba Fett wrapping presents around the tree, life would be complete.

I got a kitten!. Just had to share my joy. If my allergies abate by the end of the week, we get to keep him!

My fiance found me a very similiar item just before Thanksgiving. It’s a sculpture rather than a snowglobe, of the same scene, only much larger and more detailed. And Darth is wearing a felt-ish Santa Hat. I haven’t seen another one yet, so I guess there weren’t very many of them. I’d post a photo but I haven’t uploaded any yet.

With the addition of Jessica Marie’s kitten, this post is just too cute to exist.

A followup from my previous post. “The French Connection” is a great movie once you get past the first 45 boring minutes. I couldn’t stay awake for the sequel so I’ll have to catch it another time.

JLAJRC My mother has that one as well. Our family owned a small video store when that movie came out, it was one of the promo items she couldn’t bear to use as a prize, being from Minnesota.
This Darth one, is outstanding. I really want to get it for my son, who loves Darth and snow globes. Very cool.

I bought one of those at Target along with the Yoda Clause snow globe about a month ago. I love ‘em and my little girl loves to watch them as the music box plays. I must say they are kick ass!

I was on my way to work this morning and I saw water taboggins for the beach. Living in West Palm Beach Fl. you miss out on snow so we have to settle for surf sledding.FUN! Actually I am lying to myself. This sucks. I miss winter.

I got that Darth Vader snowglobe awhile back,and I just bought another one to give to my cousin for Christmas,as he and his brother are big Star Wars fans.

I’ve seen other (and more expensive) Star Wars snowglobes online,like ones based off the original ANH movie poster and the Battle of Hoth,but this one isn’t bad for one bought in a store as a seasonal item.

Thats cool your going to get the Wii for christmas (and adorable) I love the damn thing, every chance I get I’m playing Zelda. I guess since you are a casual gamer though, I suggest getting Rayman cuz its pretty challenging and its the best party game until Mario Party comes out. Oh and Excite Truck is awesome too.

I went to the Best Buy around the block from my job, but when I asked the prick there if they had any, he looked at me like I had asked to eat his first born. Then I asked him if they expecting more and when and I thought he was going to punch me.

Thanks Invader Norbert but that is not the one I am thinking of. The one that I have on tape (A TERRIBLE COPY) is John Denver and the Muppets putting on a Christmas show (a la the MUPPET SHOW). It even has a muppet Nativity scene (!!).
My line of thinking is that if you have it in your archives, put it out there and somebody will buy it. Whether it be good (GET A LIFE) or terrible (STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL), do a disclaimer DVD commentary but make a buck.

JLAJRC, I’ve watched it several times at different stages of my life and I just think it is too dark/depressing and without any redeeming qualities. It was trying to be edgy and “look parents, this is what is REALLY GOING ON” and ends up pleasing neither the drama crowd or those seeking a laugh. Although not a quality movie, KIDS was such much more effective without the pretense. Just saying “80’s teen comedy classic” is not enough.
Enough of that though. Back to the Vader snow globe commentary.

I was at Target today, but I opted to pick up 2 sets of the My Little Pony Winter Series instead. I’m very sad they had Star Wars stockings, and no MLP ones. I want a Pony stocking.

I tried to check XE while drinking my coffee before going to work this morning, and the site was down…it was terribly upsetting.

Worked from 8 - 5, then went to writing class from 6 - 9 PM…finally got home, made food, and sat in front of the computer, hoping- and whoot! XE is back baby. Thank goodness. Otherwise, I wouldn’t know about this freaking awesome Darth Vader snow globe…or holiday ball or whatever. I am absolutely going to look for this at the mall tomorrow.

Check out the history channel. They are having a look at holiday food. Maybe they can answer who the hell is responsible for fruitcake. I say it’s Al Qaeda.

Wish I could change the channel, but I have to tape RAW. My husband finally got to go and wants to see if he’s on TV, even though he has crappy tickets. I wish TNA toured, I would go to TNA in a second.

Just because it has a storyline doesn’t mean they’re not getting the crap beat out of them. I fought it for a long time, I really did - but then I started watching it and I kind of like it. And love TNA.

I want to call my husband and laugh at him - he finally gets tickets and has to watch some diva battle royale…ahahahaha. Poop break.

I acknowledge wrestling - I have to, my best friend is a huge fan - I just think it’s crazy. I prefer football for watching 100 big guys jump on each other. And their uniforms are almost as weird.

I haven’t been a huge “Star Wars” collector in years, but I must admit, that is…unique. Maybe I’ll build a mini-Death Star out of snow when it finally gets cold enough here in South Jersey to see my breath, much less snow.

I used to freaking LOVE wrestling- I have attended 2 house shows, one Smackdown, one RAW and one PPV (No Mercy). Now, though- I still WANT to love it like I used to, but the WWE is making it damn hard for me to still be a fan. The quality of EVERYTHING has gone downhill- the storylines, the talent, the actual wrestling- everything. I agree with Jessica Marie- TNA is where its at.

This makes me want to cry tears of joy. Damn straight that’s why Vader went to Hoth! I can picture him sending the Stormtroopers out on a recon mission, only to sneak out back and indulge in his “guilty pleasure”, all the while whistling “let it snow”. Classic.

Diva battles are stupid. You can see half-dressed girls anywhere - I watch wrestling because I want to see wrestling.

TNA isn’t all that great, in my opinion. About all they have REALLY going for them are Daniels, Angle and Joe. I’m not saying WWE is better, now. Just that TNA still needs a lot of work on putting on a solid show. I hope they succeed.

I’m guessing the reason that X-E was down was because the Snowgloble link was posted on Fark. Thus, the server got Farked.

Hey Mystie, what do the winter series My Little Ponies look like? Are they Target exclusives?

I got them there ponies too. The packages are a bit different in style from the Halloween versions, but in many ways nicer and easier to display. (NOT THAT I AM DISPLAYING PONIES, DAMMIT.) Yes, they are Target exclusives. (For those asking, the Darth snow globe also came from Target.)

TNA is so much more exciting than WWE! We almost always end up turning Smackdown off, but throughout TNA I’m gasping and saying how awesome the wrestlers are. They can actually *wrestle.*

Almost the entire roster of the WWE can work that TNA style better than the TNA boys. The WWE guys have restrictions on what they can and can’t do in the ring.

Also TNA guys are almost all WWE offcasts. The ones that aren’t, don’t have that much of a universal appeal that a WWE star has. AJ Styles can’t communicate to save his life.

And Raw is still a fun show to me. UMAGA has been built solidly. DX is still a joy to watch.

And to wrap it up, I want TNA to do well. If they do well than Vince will start doing better. And I like seeing guys like Christian get his recognition.

TNA is way better than WWE as of late. I enjoy Mr. Kennedy, and JBL as a broadcaster. Apart from that, there is just no real reason to watch. I still do, only because I have done so forever, TNA is a must see show for me though. The PPV’s are awesome. Every one of those guys (ok save Rhino) Is excellent in performing a gimmickless un-raunchy wrestling match. I would much rather see Joe and Angle wrestle a classic match than EVER see another fat mans ass with a head being forced into it.

I know I sent an email a few days ago about this, but after I read your site today about the snowglobe, I strongly feel you should also check out the Darth Vader on a badass black motorcycle with his lightsaber flying! In the ad I saw him with one hand on the handlebar and the other hand waving his giant glowstick around like he means business!

The toy’s around $8. When I read about the snowglobe today, I wouldn’t mind putting that and the chopper side by side!

Just think–now there’s TWO items of DV doing things that we’ve NOT seen him doing in any of the movies!

Bill, I went down to my mom and stepdad’s house in North Cape May for Thanksgiving; I’m opting to stay up here in Oaklyn, near Philadelphia on the Jersey side, for Christmas. It’ll be easier on my sanity (and my sister’s - she’s the driver) than trying to truck down there again at one of the busiest times of the year.
