My dying wish is for an owl/camel hybrid, which I call camowl.

Green & Silver Play-Doh Experiment.

In yesterday's entry, I asked for your help in naming things that are generally associated with the color combination of silver and green, because that's what Play-Doh gave me and lord knows I don't have 55,000 tubs of Play-Doh just chilling around the house. You had many answers. Too many answers. I picked five to try, and I'd like to say that they were chosen randomly, but I'd be lying.

Can of 7-UP, suggested by Lemont. Only he didn't specify "can." That was all me.

Green planet with silver craters, suggested by starwenn. I think starwenn knew that I only wanted to spend three minutes total on this project.

Green lightsaber with silver hilt, suggested by Old E. My favorite lightsaber from anything Star Wars, and the only reason why I pick green Fla-Vor-Ices over red and blue.

A dinosaur with braces, suggested by Kate.

Green Hulk versus Gray Hulk, suggested by Jeff as a spinoff of Jester's idea. I really wanted to give this one all it deserved, but please refer back to my earlier mandate of the three minutes total allotted to this project.

There's more than one way to kill an evening.

Very, very nice Matt! I wish I made a suggestion now :( At first I thought the green planet was a 1up mushroom

Y’know I really think that dino needs a name. He has to be the cutest dinosaur with braces I have EVER seen!

i thought it was a 1up mushroom too. and to your previous post as to the commute of this god forsaken island, i know your pain. its ridiculous. dont even get me started on weekends, apparently they dont need to run trains to the ferry terminal anymore. i cant stand it/dont make enough money to move.

Chestnuts roasted by ks @ 11/14/2006 12:46 AM

I also thought it was a 1-up mushroom. And then I said, “I should have come up with that yesterday!” And then I said, “Oh, wait, 1-up mushrooms are green and white.” And then I didn’t feel as bad.

Dang, I completely missed yesterday’s blog!

I thought 1-Up mushroom too.

I’d love to see a whole Chia Plot-esque article with the clay Hulks.

Yaknow the planet could’ve easily be turned into a 1up mushroom

I only kick myself because I didn’t think of it :( Well played Jeff, Well played indeed.

The real question…what will happen when Play-Doh Hulks meet REAL Hulks?

Man, I wish I had “basted” an entry yesterday :(

I bought the Cranberry Sierra Mist and I was underwhelmed. Not terrible but not great.

I call the big one Bitey.

From the last blog: Thanx Darth Galvatron! Be prepared to bow down before me when you read this. ;)

And I’m sick of the pre-Xmas hype. I’m only gonna try and be merry around Black Friday, when Thanksgiving actually comes & goes…which I’m actually excited for!

Chestnuts roasted by Invader Norbert @ 11/14/2006 1:53 AM

I can’t remember who said this but they said that Thanksgiving was like a red-headed step child. I just heard it a few days ago. It’s right between Halloween and Christmas and doesn’t get all the rage or whatnot it used to. Though not sure it ever did.

Oh and about Christmas- I actually saw a Christmas tree already in someone’s window. Pfft… and Christmas songs were playing in a store I was at yesterday. Please folks, save it for AFTER Thanksgiving!

That’s cool that Matt actually made the suggestions even though I thought of a green lightsaber playdoh mockup with more detail, even though I probably have played with playdoh once in my life and I forgot how hard it is to mold. I do want to get this crayola clay that I saw a couple of years ago, you can play with it like playdoh for a long time but if you want to keep it that way you bake it in the oven! and you can glue shit on it like glitter, feathers, and I seriously want to make christmas ordaments and try to sell them? I don’t know how I would do that. Even though you can make handmade picture frames with them though too…

and The Manimal I have that episode on dvd it came out a couple of years ago :-) I love the simpsons references. especially if they are so vague you have to be one of those people that has watched every episode a million times (like me) to know what they are talking about.

The planet one also kinda looks like a Yoshi egg. Just a thought.

Chestnuts roasted by Donnie Darko @ 11/14/2006 9:45 AM

Wait–no, not so much–the Yoshi eggs are white with green spots

Chestnuts roasted by Donnie Darko @ 11/14/2006 9:46 AM

Actually, I suggested it because that’s what my sisters and I used to do with Play Dough when we were little…but yeah, also because it’s quick and you’re a busy man. They all came out well, BTW, but I was thinking “green cookie” for the planet…

Chestnuts roasted by starwenn @ 11/14/2006 10:22 AM

Goob, he also could’ve used the green play-doh to put it on himself and pass it off as leprosy.

“I call the big one Bitey” was written by none other than Conan O’Brien. The More you Know…

Some not so relevant, but quite helpful advice:

If you do plan on eating the Play-Doh try not to overcook it.

It does not get soft and then get really hard like cookie dough, Play Doh just kind of gets hard. Like clay or something.

I think it tastes better if you add a bit of sugar. You can mix it with like eggs and stuff to make it more doughy and less Play-Dohy. Then you really have to cook it though because of like salmonella, which I think means that there salmon eggs in Play-Doh so do not eat it if you are allergic to fish.

So long story somewhat longer, cooking Play-Doh usually makes a pretty flavorless brick unless you know what you is doing.

I posted this in the last blog, but I guess everyone has moved on. =(

Anywho, awesome lightsaber Matt. However, was crafting a Hound out of 2 tubs of Play-Doh too much work?!?!?

Ha ha ha, anytime Norbert

I’m continuing this from the last thread so feel free to drop it to make room for fresher ideas…

I found out there was no Santa thanks to the USS Flag, aka, the GI Joe aircraft carrier.

My dad and my uncle were bringing it up the stairs and I think my dad had dropped on his foot and started cursing. It came in a HUGE box. The sound woke me up, but what made me realize that there was no Santa was the fact that in all the lore I had known of Santa, never once did it mention that he spoke Spanish, much less knew how to curse in it.

That was awesome an christmas though. My middle brother got the USS Flag, I got Trypticon AND Metroplex and my little brother got the talking Mickey Mouse (made by World of Wonder. The Lasertag/Teddy Ruxpin people)

One of the few reasons I want to have kids is to have the sneaking the presents into the room experience and seeing their faces in the morning. I don’t know how my parents did it for so many years with a straight face and us not knowing.

Cool thing is, my parents still leave presents for us at the foot of our beds at their house on Christmas morning. They still sneek them in and I still haven’t caught them. They even still put “From Santa”.

I can’t wait to have those traditions with my own family.

matt, your molding skills are unmatched in many ways.

Ok, the Lightsaber was awesome, and I too thought that the planet was a shroom of some sort. I always tend to get a little TOO into Play Doh when I break it out to play with my daughter. I actually get toothpicks and make very detailed lines and such. I actually made replicas of all 4 TMNT’s AND a splinter. I left them on a shelf for so long that they turned into some sort of Play Doh stones, and have been decorations ever since.

I agree that the Green lightsaber is best. Jedi Guardians are the last defense against the dark side of the force or some crap like that. I just like them cause it was the color of my saber in the Knights of the Old Republic games. I had an awesome lightsaber with a Dragon’s Eyeball in the hilt or something. Anyways, good job with the Doh Experiment… I say we do Colorform Storyboards next!!!

The way I found out there was no Santa was pretty simple. See, my family always gradually wrapped and put presents under the tree. By Christmas Eve they were all there. So when I asked about Santa, my mom said that they helped Santa out by buying presents, but Santa always came on Christmas Eve to fill stockings. Since my stocking was, indeed, magically filled up overnight, I was pretty satisfied with that answer.

Then one day I found the bags of candy for our stockings stashed in a drawer. That pretty much ended Santa for me right then. I don’t remember being upset though, I was just like “oh, there’s no Santa, okay” and went back to playing.

Chestnuts roasted by jazzy @ 11/14/2006 12:44 PM

Hey, when you have grown men and women talking about how they recently played with Play-Doh, you realize that Santa is real, he’s come to eat candy canes and kick ass, and is all out of ass.

If the X-E Music Maven is still taking suggestions for the Jukebox, I had one occur last night. Anything from Los Straitjackets’ album “Tis The Season For Los Straitjackets”.

I personally love the Hall ‘n’ Oates version of Jingle Bell Rock. Mostly cause of Oates’s porn mustache in the video.

Chestnuts roasted by Old E @ 11/14/2006 1:37 PM

Memmers I’m with you.
I don’t think Thanksgiving is the red headed step child though. It’s simply getting the shaft. Growing up I remember after Halloween all the witches and ghost decorations coming down and putting up the Pilgrim and turkey decorations. It used to be much more of a big deal. I mean its not a Christmas parade or a Halloween Parade but the Macy’s THANKGIVING day parade.
Over the years Christmas has crowded them out to the point where finding ANY Thanksgiving decorations is tough. Not impossible but tough.
In my house, No Christmas things go up until after Thanksgiving. I give a holiday its due.
