X-Entertainment loves Christmas and will not stop talking about it, ever.

You were the one who tried to destroy Yoshi…with that mutagen.

Well, Halloween's over, and now begins the losing battle to resist falling into the Christmas trap too early. Sure, I can listen to Wham's "Last Christmas" on my iPod during the bus ride into work, and sure, I can switch to the Jimmy Eat World version because it's less shameful should the speakers blast loud enough for anyone else to hear what I'm listening to, and sure, I'm sitting here in a Santa suit, but NO! We must wait! We must enjoy our holiday break and soak up the small bit of holi-sustenance brought by Thanksgiving, and then we can hit the attic and bring down the lights, reading crumpled comic strips from last year's newspapers as we do. I will say this, though: Playmobil did us a solid and continued on with a 2006 Advent Calendar...and I've got it.

Meantime, I'm looking forward to doing some articles this month that don't necessarily conjunct with any upcoming holidays. I've got a few I was sitting on in September, but then I went and decided that I should start writing about Halloween a month early, and here were are. I'm feeling pretty good. Work's good, I've survived Halloween, and I've got serious vacation time coming up in December. The only thing missing is a little tiara with my name engraved in cursive.

Click here to watch a 90's promo for the Ninja Turtles cartoon. This one was from and for WPIX, the same station that delighted me with Shocktober movie marathons. It's also from an era when Turtledom was dying off, evidenced by its airtime: 7:30 AM. I always hated when WPIX gave my favorite cartoons the 7:30 airtime. It was the death knell. It's when I knew it was time to admit that my obsession was no longer shared by millions.

Anyway, this was a pretty basic promo, albeit one that halfheartedly tried to start a "Do The Turtle" dance craze, and one that tried to rhyme "blue" with "dudes."

I bought a Coke 2 liter yesterday with SANTA’s smiling face on it. He’s back this year! none of that Penguin BS.

I already miss Halloween…and the month of October. :(

I remember being excited when cartoons hit 7:30 time slots. 7:00 was even better. I would get to watch them before I went to school every morning. My mother works at my old elementary school, and she had to be there earlier than I did, so those cartoons meant that I wanted to be up and ready THAT much earlier. Centurions, TMNT, and Silverhawks. Awww, yeah, broke free some more memories!! Anyone else remember the Silverhawks?

Matt did an article or two. Article 0701 for example.

Also, I know it’s all a matter of taste, and so just know I’m just ringing in my vote. Jimmy Eat World = Superfantasmagoric. If you’re graduating from college, pick up Futures. I got it on my 23rd birthday, which if you know the album, is very telling and appropriate.

I am struggling, deep inside I really want to start celebrating Christmas, but I know that I should wait until after Thanksgiving. As a kid we always decorated the day after Thanksgiving as a tradition. But I don’t know if I can wait, I’m so excited that it is November that I don’t even know what to do.

Will I be a bad person if we decorate this weekend?

The channel 11 in Pittsburgh is WPXI. Freaky.

YESS!!! The return of Mare Winningham (and her evil twin) is COMING! But like you, Matt, let’s not rush the Christmas season. It’s bad enough everyone else does…I’m in Thanksgiving mode now after having a kick-ass Halloween and Halloween season thanks to X-Entertainment! (how’s that for a plug?)

I think I’ll temper any early Xmas feelings by looking up that “Hey Ya, Charlie Brown” video. That should stave it off for a while. I not only remember “Silverhawks”, I have Bluegrass and HotWing.

My local ABC (I think) ran “The Great Pumpkin” this year after a serveral years lapse and I was thrilled. However it was followed by “You’re Not Elected Charlie Brown” which was 21 minutes of Charlie Brown loosing to Linus in the school election. It was really surreal. That’s all I have for now.

Oh yeah…long live Waiterbot.

I have to give XM a lot of credit. They’re not rolling out their holiday stations until the day after thanksgiving.

I’m waiting for one of the local stations to flip to all christmas any day now.

I remember when my tv station moved power rangers to 5:30! Boy was I pissed, Yired, and Pissed. But I got up anyway…. And slept throught second grade.

I am gonna save decorating the house for next weekend. It’ll almost be mid November. That’s gonna be OK. I don’t have to work Thanksgiving this year, so Woo Hoo for that.
Really loved the Halloween countdown Matt. Thanks for all you put into it. Also, looking foward to the articles coming this month
Are you going to be doing a retro Macy’s review again this year? I so love those.

Channel 11 in New York is now part of the CW network. Does anyone know what the heck CW stands for? It used to be the WB, and that’s a no-brainer for Warner Brothers.

Chestnuts roasted by Jeff @ 11/02/2006 2:41 PM

Jeff- It is a merging of the WB and CBS, which I guess used to own UPN. I’m not sure who owns what with all those tv stations, but the name CW is a combo of those two companies.

Powerrangers came on usually at 8, I think. Back me up Colonel. That necessitated a special arrangement as well. My mother didn’t drive back then, so my Dad had to drop both of us off in the mornings. Powerrangers came out when I was in middle school, so my Dad would take my mom to work, occasionally get breakfast from 7-11 (Big Bites, so bad for you, so special to me at the time), come pick me up, take me to school, and then FINALLY go to work.

I dunno why they agreed to do something that elaborate for me. I don’t even remember asking, they just kinda started doing it to accomodate me. I guess it’s cause they kick ass and realized it meant alot to me, being the new barer of Voltron’s legacy.

Chestnuts roasted by K- @ 11/02/2006 3:05 PM

CW is a merger between CBS and Warner Brothers, utilizing the first letter of each for the new station Identity. It mixed programs from UPN and WB into one station.

Thanks, all, for clearing that up for me. :-)

7:30 AM? Thats not bad. I had to get up at 5 AM to watch The Real Ghostbusters, when it was popular. Stupid time zones always givin Alaska the shaft.

Chestnuts roasted by AoDfan @ 11/02/2006 3:41 PM

I used to watch Power Rangers as part of Fox’s afternoon line-up, which also included Spiderman and X-Men (the GOOD one).

Veronica- you were in SECOND GRADE when Power Rangers was popular? Jesus, now I feel old! I was watching it in high school!

Random tidbit about the Dollar Tree review. I work there, and as of the first we had to pull all of our creepy classics due to “legal issues”…a.k.a. copyright infringement.

Does anyone remember the Cartoon Express on USA Network? For the life of me, I can’t remember what shows were on it. Maybe GI Joe? And Mr. T is in my mind too. I would try extra hard to get up early on Saturdays to watch it. That is until one day it just wasn’t there. That was one of the most depressing days of my life.

Chestnuts roasted by buckly @ 11/02/2006 4:08 PM

Do we get a Thanksgiving parade review this year?

Chestnuts roasted by thejyav @ 11/02/2006 4:10 PM

I mostly watched the USA Network for WWF wrestling…

Gummi Bears out on DVD Nov 14th!!

Oh man. The next Advent Countdown. I can’t freakin’ wait.

A small throwback to one of the last entries, Matt, don’t worry about not hitting your demographic. I think corporate America is getting to you if that’s how you’re thinking. I think I speak for alot of us when I say the internet wouldn’t be half as worth it for us if your site wasn’t here. Even if you were to update once a month, we still have a pretty great group of folks who love coming here. And new ones are always popping up. I’ve haven’t been posting, but I’ve been here everyday. I’m glad the updates have been sporadic. Helps me catch up on the blog posts!

Shit, I’ve made coming here part of my Christmas tradition for the past 5 years. This place, and the people here help me re-live, however small or large, a part of my childhood I miss so much, due to this whole getting older nonsense.

I know the feeling, but that hasn’t changed me. It shouldn’t change you. I still play video games, I still watch cartoons. Hell, I still collect Transformers. Not as much as Id like to, but when I can, I do it, when time and life allow it. Just remember there are people who truly look forward to coming here and reading your funny and often insighful thoughts. Just make sure you keep doing what makes you happy, and until it stops making you happy.

Anywho:

Transformers: Nov 7th, Special edition DVD comes out. Widescreen and re-mastered. Google it.

Transformer Live Action: Sorry, but what’s been coming out about this flick just goes to show that Michael Bay and Douche Bag (Don “the mediocre wonder” Murphy) just don’t get Transformers. They’re going to release some toys that look like Rocklords. Seriously, look it up. Transformers never turned into what looked like rocks, or intergallactic shit. I don’t Hasbro even gets Transformers anymore.

TMNT and Silverhawks: I hear about those, and I think of my youngest brother. Those were his favorites. He still has the Rat King and the Silverhawk with the Cowboy hat that played the guitar.

WPIX: I miss that station. It was such a New York station, and had the majority of the cartoons I use to watch. From Gi Joe to the Disney Afternoon. I used to watch the cartoons before I went to school or work growing up. Now, they have that idiotic morning new show with some of the most God-aweful reporters on earth. They’re an insult to jorunalism. The broad who does the traffic was from one of the seasons of The Bachelorette. No joke. Apparently, that’s the only job her whopping 30 IQ allowed her to get. She’s hot as hell, but sweet Jesus, she should just do pron and get it over with already.

I feel the battle begin! But seriously, I know everyone says after Thanksgiving, but that doesn’t give me enough Christmas enjoyment. I need more time. So when do X-E’ers think is OK? Clearly not this early but maybe half way through? Help me! I nearly put “Santa Claus: The Movie” in the DVD player and “Charlie Brown Christmas” on the Stereo! Must…hold…back…
