Happy Halloween From The Darkside!

Happy Halloween! This year's Halloween Countdown ends, oddly, with a review of my favorite episode of Tales From The Darkside. Such a great show, and it gave me just the kind of last-minute spirit zapping I needed. I know most people did their big costume/haunting things this past weekend, but tomorrow is Halloween Propa. Do your best to enjoy it, however you can.

I really didn't want the season to slip by without getting to write about these, because they're great. Let me sum it up quick: Cars, in horror shells, fun times. Don't think that'll due, so, expansion: Remember those Matchbox Christmas Coal Cars I wrote about ten years ago? Same idea here. Regardless of whether your costume-wearing widdle-wons have been naughty or nice, they, and I and you will all revel in the glories of horror-shelled mystery Matchbox cars. Each plastic case splits open to reveal a toy car that is sadly not at all Halloweeny, but it's the cases that count, and these are great cases. Not sure which I like better, but it doesn't matter much; they're both mine.

They're coming to take me away, ha ha.

I’m having a great, if not very Halloweeny, Halloween, partially due to the “Worst Witch” article. So that’s that.

Matt, Your write-ups are always funny, thanks for doing this another year! Happy Halloween!

I cannot share these pictures like I thought I would be able to. I uploaded them to KODAKSHARE but…any ideas? Squee? Jedoc?

I am completely distraught. This is my first Halloween with my own place and I have seen a total of 3 trick or treaters. What is the world coming to?

K
I hope that I did the bold thing right… I had the mask, got a hat, an old cape, black shirt, pants, socks, shoes, and of course black leather gloves. Oh, and a black wig, gotta have glorious locks.

I am very dissapointed. I walked up and down my street and saw a total of 4 trick or treaters. I had maybe 15 kids come to my door before I gave up. Damn kids these days, this was perfect Halloween weather. I seriously hope next year is better.

See, I had the black clothes…I wear that EVERYDAY. I just didn’t bother with getting a cape, the wig, and the gloves, because I’ve just had this most heinous lack of follow-through since the legendary Colonel/K- years. I’m pathetic. :(

Well… Hallowe’en is basically over. I can say that I’m pleased because I saw more kids going trick or treating this year than I did last year while coming home.

But, you know what the end of the Hallowe’en season really means, dontcha, Matt?

That’s right: time to start the Christmas countdown, bitch. You can’t escape it.

Which incarnation of Mare will we see this year?

random question: is it bad for me to be handing out Dum-Dums that I bought last Halloween. I dont get many kids coming to my door, as I live in a big apt building, and have had the leftovers from last year in my pantry. Ive eaten a few recently, and there still good, so Im not worried about poisoning, Im just wondering if it is morally wrong. I will say, my parents are giving out little bags of pretzels (nothing wrong with pretzels as a snack, but I think there make a horrible trick or treat item). I think that year old candy is better than brand new pretzels any day

Happy Halloween, all! :) Thanks for playing.

Chestnuts roasted by Matt @ 10/31/2006 10:48 PM

It’s alright jesse, I handed out willy wonka candy from last year! I guess I’ll find out in the next few days if any kids died from rotten candy.

Timmy, that Question costume is awesome!! Nice work. Who did your friends go as? Hopefully you went the underappreciated-characters-given-props-by-Bruce-Timm route, which I guess would mean, like, Etrigan and Barda.

Thank you Matt.

When I think back on my life, you and Green Day are the only things I can honestly say have remained constant in my life. You’ve both matured and become remarkable writers. I know you’ll both continue to be there for me; and whatever paths you take, I’ll always be there for you. I may be prickish at times and I’m not proud of it.

Funny thing is, the Colonel introduced me to both of you. I’d be lost w/o him.

It feels like New Year’s Eve tonight. And I’m always the “I love you man!” guy.

Manimal:

The simplest solution would probably be a Photobucket account. Then you can just a href the URL of the pictures straight from the blog to create clickable captions.

Example: No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!

“Happy Halloween” from southern New Jersey, just outside of Philadelphia. My Halloween was reletively quiet, because like many of you, I worked for most of it. I watched a few Halloween/horror-oriented episodes of TV shows I have on DVD and video this morning, along with “Great Pumpkin,” before heading off to work.

I was an angel at work today, and the costume seemed to go over well. I’m not into parties, so work is the only time I’ll get to dress up this Halloween season. Good thing I worked 8 hours. I was an angel in a pair of wings and a wand I picked up from the thrift shop I volunteer at. Both look home-made but served their purpose. I ditched the silly-looking halo that came with the wings originally and wore a cheap sequined tiara I had from Halloween a few years ago instead.

Work was steady-to-dead – everyone was either at parties or taking care of trick-or-treaters. It was so dead, by the time I left, they were letting people go early. More people dressed up here than they did at the store I worked at in North Cape May last year – we had a soldier, a gangster, a pumpkin, a leopard, a flapper, a hockey player, a gypsy, a couple of cowgirls, and a World War II pin-up in the sexiest uniform the WACs never wore.

Let me be the 2,493rd person to say:

Happy Halloween! And thanks to Matt for all the great work as usual.

Don’t forget, the best part about the end of Halloween is super cheap candy tomorrow!

It’s after midnight now, so I guess Hallowe’en is officially over, but I just wanted to pop on the blog one more time before bed. It was a great season, and without Matt, I would not have been in the spirit of things at all this year. Thanks again.

*(I just got back from a Texas Hold Em game- I won! Whoot! Who says girls can’t play poker, eh?)

Manimal, Photobucket is the simplest, since it creates the link for you as Jedoc demonstrates. I also like Flickr, which you can apparently now access with a Yahoo!ID.
Welcome, all you new commenters! Please keep introducing yourselves :D
Happy happy, everyone. Have a safe one!

Kudos to you Matt. I’m always blown away that you think you have to apologize for not devoting every waking minute of your life to the site.

Speaking of Bravo, has anyone watched that follow-up to their “Scariest Movie Moments” series? I caught the first part last Friday and thank goodness “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” was on after because I needed to block out the sight of that woman from “Saw 2″ falling into the needle pit.

Personally, I’m psyched because TCM is showing “The Abominable Dr. Phibes” (from the director of “The Devil’s Rain!”) in a few minutes. I can’t get enough of Vincent Price telling the preserved body of his dead wife: “Nine killed you. Nine shall die. Nine times, nine! Nine killed you! Nine shall die! Nine eternities in DOOM!” “Saw” owes a lot to the finale of this one.

Chestnuts roasted by Alex @ 11/01/2006 12:18 AM

And “Se7en” also owes quite a bit to “Phibes” in general, I just realized.

Merry First Day of Christmas everyone!!

Speaking of Halloween, I’ve been updating my myspace blog to be more…Halloweeny. Click the name and laugh & respond, to sound like an attention whore. My display pic is even the first pic from a Ghost With The Most!

Speaking of which…we needed to see more of him! :(

Well, this Halloween season brought many things for me, including a new job and my first ever attempt at building/operating a haunted house (I wasn’t alone in the venture, of course). Still, I’m glad it’s over. Kinda burned out on the whole pumpkin thing. Will be glad when those candy canes come out and the radio is flooded with Christmas Carols. Nice.

Oh wow, that was one of my favorite shows when I was really young. All I remember is that the credits in the beginning would FREAK ME OUT! Just the thought of when the normal trees turned all reverse still scares me.
