Dollar Tree’s “Creepy Classics” Toys!

Site was all buggy today. My apologies. I think it's working now. I was told it was, anyway. Joining the Halloween Countdown on this too warm evening is the Creepy Classics collection, a series of monster toys sold at dollar stores that've been all the rage this season. Article also features a little bonus section about cheap masks -- also dollar store pickups -- that take this entry from a 6 to a 7 with a silver foil star.

The Wolfman sure loves his baseball, but he’s going to get hit by a pitch if he doesn’t learn how to hold a bat right.

I live and die by dollar stores year round. What a crazy allegiance, but they always have a good variety of stuff. They may not be well made, but at least it’s different.

Ha-ha, there is a Dollar Tree about two doors down from my apartment building. I started buying Halloween stuff there back in August, man. I was floored when I found the posters! I bought Dracula and King Kong, and then later when I went back, they only had a few left – but one of them was Godzilla, which they did not have previously.

They are currently displayed in my living room, where they will remain until I die.

I kinda regret not buying the other ones. The store already cleared out their Halloween section and put in Christmas stuff. -_-

Ariel: I love the Dracula poster with the word “screamy.” You never hear that anymore. I can’t imagine a trailor for Saw VIII described as screamy. But if they did, I would be game. Off to work!

Actually Matt, since you singled out Godzilla as being “above” the Dollar Tree crowd,I’m pretty sure he’s the only unliscensed one. This based on the fact that his movie is not called “King of the Lizards”.

I didn’t get to post on yesterday’s blog, but I did read it,and the funniest thing about Green Day is that the lamer their songs get,the more makeup they wear,to convince you they’re still cool. Kind of like Phillis Diller, except if Phillis Diller wrote a song,I imagine it would be a lot cooler than “Wake Me Up When September Ends”.

Those figures look “homie-ish” How tall are they? If they’re not too tall they would be excellent candidates to superglue to the top of my cash register.

(Off Topic:the office last night was amazing, I hate that I’m loving Dwights character more and more each episode)

A good tip for those cheap rubber masks is to spray paint them one colour … it makes them look a lot more creepy than they were intended to be.

baseball bats? more like dildos.

Yes, the dollar tree has been surprisingly good this year for halloween stuff. Overall, I am impressed with the commercial Halloween output.

Yes, the Office was great last night. I’m really liking the use of the other office too. Love me, love me, say that you’ll love me . . .

Why is the dude on The Mummy poster making a big pot of Campbells Tomato Soup? I hope he’s making a giant grilled cheese to go along with it. Mummy’s gotta eat too, yo.

Had to have a good laugh when I read this article Matt. I work at a Dollarama in Niagara Falls (In Canada, eh?) it’s basically the same idea as your Dollar Tree’s, everything in there is $1, and there’s a mix of brand named stuff, and generic crap! It’s funny, because even those masks you were showing, are very similar to the ones we have at our store. Of course upon me saying that, our Halloween section is almost empty because I went off work recently (got a week off, because I had to get surgery done on my foot…by surgery I mean they had to remove my toenail!) As I went off for that, they were starting to put X-Mas stuff up…to me of course…Halloween will always be MY Christmas!

I don’t know about anyone else, but I like the idea of Matt going up to the cashier with all that stuff and asking her to try it on for pictures, why she says yes, who knows.

Kong loves his slow-pitch softball, and is willing to play with anyone who carries a bat. Or personal massager.

The dollar store at our local mall is really really bad. They only sell housewares, no “fed up” mummy figures-but you can buy netted bags of oddly stained silverware for a buck.

I work at Dollar Tree and I am so glad that you finally managed to get off your lazy ass and go. Also those mini posters you cut out, they come in full size for a dollar too. If that store didn’t have them you missed out.
My store also has every candy you’ve written about in the last 3 years. Peeps and all. You should have gone 2 weeks ago when we were really stocked with halloween. All the good stuff is already gone.

I think it’s interesting, the company that makes these has the rights to the movie poster image but not much else, so all the figures are almost exact molds based off the posters (except for the monster baseball team thingies). I also thought it was interesting to note that they took Karloff’s name off the Mummy and Bride of posters because they don’t have the rights to reproduce it.

I still love these figures to death though.

Started the weekend off early and on the way home I mysteriously found myself in a dollar store. I need to cut back on this site. Now I have alot of “may have expired” candy and two porcelin monkeys on surfboards smoking cigars. I think I might bring one to the bar tonight. I need to recoup this buck.

Norbert: Two Words:

Street Sharks

I remember that show VERY well, even had a couple of the toys…but not the good ones, though. They didn’t have shark-shaped cars or bikes, though, if I remember right.

Another show based on a toy that not many people will remember: Creepy Crawlers. I had the actual thing long before the series, and it made the thing much more interesting than what it actually was, being an actual sentient monster creator instead of those wax insects you’d have to bake with those 5 watt lightbulbs.

Does anyone remember a sitcom that came out in, I don’t know, 1986-87 maybe? It’s about this suburb family and the father creates this android girl called V.I.C.K.Y. ? They had this fat kid of a son and some no named wife and nosey nieghbors with a gross looking kid named Harriet who was in love with the fat kid. Anyway, I had such a crush on that robot chick when I was 7. Maybe it’s because she showed no emotion and talked in a monotone robot voice. I wish I could find a robot talking girl. I guess I will just have to scope the throat cancer ward for treakiotomy ( i’m sure that’s spelled wrong)chicks. (sigh) …..sucks.

Supposedly we’re supposed to wear our Black Parade shirts on Tuesday (makes sense) and scream when we finally get to touch our copy. Why would I want to act like a TRLer in the middle of Best Buy?

On the other hand, we don’t need to be told to do that. It’s gonna happen involuntarily anyway. I mean I got pretty worked up when I finally got my hands on American Idiot :D

Same day the original trilogy first came out on DVD. I remember it well. Standing there in my freshly made shirt. It still reeked of bleach. Ahhh.

Does anyone remember biker mice from mars? man they were cool, a knock-off tmnt maybe, but still cool.

That’s it! Thanks. I’m tired of asking strangers and having them tell me it’s “Life Goes On.” Sorry, Corkey was not a robot. We was touched.

You guys are lucky. Our local Dolar Tree has a terrible Halloween selection. For some reason, the store is already three-fourths Christmas stuff, with the Halloween selection (even the candy) shoved into a few shelves in the back (and no Creepy Classics). I found a better selection at the much smaller dollar store down the street.

This is especially disappointing considering that last year, the Dollar Tree in Rio Grande had one of the best selections of Halloween stuff anywhere, including some great masks.
