Dollar Tree’s “Creepy Classics” Toys!

Site was all buggy today. My apologies. I think it's working now. I was told it was, anyway. Joining the Halloween Countdown on this too warm evening is the Creepy Classics collection, a series of monster toys sold at dollar stores that've been all the rage this season. Article also features a little bonus section about cheap masks -- also dollar store pickups -- that take this entry from a 6 to a 7 with a silver foil star.

Yeah, I was so excited to be the first, I neglected to write anything relevant.

Matt, did you happen to pick up the actual posters from the Creepy Classics Collection? They’re full-sized, full-color, GORGEOUS posters. I got a whole set… and for $6 + tax you can too! My favorites are “Bride of Frankenstein” and “Dracula” because they have the most awesome graphics. I love having a sister who works at Dollar Tree and lets me know when really cool shit comes in.

I so need to buy the standing figures so I can make a haunted post office display!!

dollar tree is the best place to find pez dispensers. i was sick waiting for my prescription to be filled and i walked into the dollar tree next door and spent a half hour on the floor making a mess trying to find as many sets as i could out of the huge bin of pez.

yeah so i dont post on here a lot but i notice everyones talking about this new nintendo thing? apparently my brother wants it and since he seems to think i’m made of money, i’m in charge of getting it for him. so whats so special about this thing that i’m (trying) to buy him for his birthday?

I wonder if anyone has gotten a face rash from dollar masks?

OK, I’ve been to my local Dollar Tree store lately, but I’ve missed these! I’ve only managed to acquire an enraged 3-inch high King King action figure, but I already threw away the packaging, so I’m not sure if it’s part of the same line. I do remember though, that the line included non-King Kong universe peoples…I’m going to have to go back and spend a ton of 4 dollars again.

Too warm + rain = fog. Which is pretty fucking creepy when you’re on the way home from Nightmare Before Christmas 3D and your old pal driving is like, “Yeah here’s the haunted spot where everyone gets into terrible wrecks all the time because there’s ghosts in the middle of the road.”

*shudder*

Ugh. I have such a headache and so much needing sleep for job interview tomorrow….

I swear, Dollar Tree is my religion. You go in there feeling a little lost in the world, and then you see jumbo bags of Lemonheads and inflatable bath pillows and FUCK YES life is worth living. I bought my first “personal massager” (wink) at the Dollar Tree. Ah, memories.

If you’re ever part of any kind of nighttime-outdoors festivities, go to the Dollar Tree and buy glow bracelets. You can get a six pack for a dollar, and both kids and adults are unnaturally impressed by things that glow.

Off topic, The Office was extra-awesome tonight, and did Dwight toss a Red Dwarf salute in there? Am I crazy?

Oooooh Matt is that your *girlfriend* under those horrible masks? She has pretty hair.

I wonder if, as a child, having a “Shall we dance?” King Kong would’ve enriched my existence. It certainly would now, but I’m silly now.

Dollar Tree let me put up a flyer for my haunted house attraction. They’re good people. I’d give ‘em a buck.

Chestnuts roasted by Cid @ 10/20/2006 12:40 AM

And Katherine, I know it would’ve enriched MY existence. Alas, it was not meant to be. :(

I have to agree with the aforementioned positive sentiment directed at Dollar Tree — they’re not too shabby. Any place where I can get a plastic fish, grape soda, and a bag of corn chips for under $3 is rad in my book.

Wow that model you have wearing the masks has some bitchin eyes, You can see them really well in the second mask picture, Btw that mask looks like Gene Simmons tried to apply his makeup while peaking on LSD.

God bless dollar stores and their incredibly cheap crap.

Chestnuts roasted by Retro Playback @ 10/20/2006 12:58 AM

YES.
I was at the Dollar Tree last Saturday when I saw these. I was waltzing down the “toy” aisle looking for sweet deals when they caught my eye. I stopped, looked at a few, laughed at the idea of baseball bats, contemplated buying one, put them back, and thought “Gee, I hope Matt’s seen these.” Yep.

This is off topic but when did the Discovery channel make horror documentries. It’s some scary shit on right now. What happened to Sharks and motor cycle building shows?

Chestnuts roasted by Billy @ 10/20/2006 1:05 AM

Lol I love how it’s a Bride toy and not just normal Frank. Maybe those busts are pencil toppers? Dunno how small the hole is, but it’s a possibility. Did you see the Cocoa Bats there? Someone on an earlier blog post said one could find them at Dollar Tree, but I’ve been too lazy to check it out here.

I bought that Frankenstein one the other day.

For a few weeks now I have been thinking “maybe I should go to dollar tree.” I have not yet. I will tomorrow. Oh yes, I will. And all will be well with the world.

Chestnuts roasted by X @ 10/20/2006 1:31 AM

Haha, sharks and motor cycle building shows.

I was at Wendy’s today and saw that they have Peanuts happy meal bags. I didn’t get a look at the toys, but I was wondering if it was Great Pumpkin related. If so, dibs!

Ps – Remeber the old Peanuts happy meal toys where they all seemed to be pushing wheel barrells or something?

Hey! I picked up The Mummy, The Curse of the Werewolf, King of the Lizards, Dracula, and The Bride of Frankenstein classic posters at Dollar Tree last month! They’re currently on display in my living room, with a couple of skulls that are painted red and green inside, so I can leave them on display until Christmas.

Chestnuts roasted by Sami @ 10/20/2006 2:13 AM

Well, my Dollar Tree either missed the big Halloween shipment, they just suck, or I went too early. I’ll have to go back VERY soon. I’m all about Classic Horror Movie Monsters.

Chestnuts roasted by Ryane @ 10/20/2006 2:15 AM

Dollar Trees and similar species are incredibly common on LI (there’s both that and a National Wholesale Liquidators in the same shopping center as my KB Toys), and also suffer from the lack of interesting supermarket-style aisles.

Sepaking of which, anyone remember those old Toys R Us shopping spree promotions that Nickelodeon used to have and you see the kids go down the traditional aisles, Supermarket Sweep-style? Is this the first time someone on X-E mentioned Supermarket Sweep?

And I love the idea of a Shark Motorcycle Building Show. Are the motorcycles shaped like shakrs or are the sharks building the bikes? What about both, Sharks building shark-shaped motorcycles?? This is me at 2:15 am on a thursday night/friday morning, people.

Chestnuts roasted by Invader Norbert @ 10/20/2006 2:26 AM

Haha, wow. I just had to use google maps to find my local Dollar Tree, which is sad seeing as how my town has like 18,000 people. I never think to go to dollar stores, so I couldn’t remember if we even had one. Thank you google!

Chestnuts roasted by tommy @ 10/20/2006 2:35 AM

Yes, and I still have a few of those. I’ll have to look, but I believe Charlie Brown In A Straw Hat is still on top of the flour jar.
